Safeguard strengthens hand hygiene support for minors

Now that the country has fully implemented the roll-out of vaccines for minors aged 12-17, Safeguard strengthens hand hygiene support to hospitals and vaccine hubs to help ensure that healthcare workers, frontliners, and children are safe from any illness that can be transmitted from improper hand hygiene.

A total of ₱6.1 million pesos in Safeguard Foaming Hand Wash products are donated to hospitals and vaccination hubs like St. Luke’s Medical Center and vaccination operations inside Megaworld Lifestyle Malls. As the Philippine’s #1 family germ protection soap, Safeguard aims to help in keeping the nation safe from the threats of germs and bacteria.

Safeguard continues to provide aid in proper hand hygiene education and practices through donations to facilities that need it the most during the fight against COVID-19. The brand has partnered with numerous organizations including LGUs, malls, and provided handwashing facilities in urban areas as well, through the #SAFEWash campaign.

For more than 56 years, Safeguard has continued to keep Filipino families safe with 99.9% germ protection, and continues to expand its protection to frontliners, healthcare workers, and those that are at risk of germs and bacteria. Safeguard hand soaps are powered by Infinishield Technology that effectively inhibits the growth of disease-causing germs. After handwashing, it provides with a protective shield against germs for up to 24 hours.

As the country remains in battle against the pandemic while also easing health protocols for a better new normal, proper health protocols and hand hygiene should be maintained. Safeguard is in arms with Filipinos, and with your efforts, we can look forward to a SAFE Philippines.

Do your part in making sure your family and loved ones are safe through each #SafeWash. Protect yourself from illness-causing germs and bacteria by shopping Safeguard in leading supermarkets, drugstores, or through the official Safeguard malls in Lazada and Shopee.

Safeguard Philippines partners with Mercury Drug Corporation to release 20,000 bottles of an all-new limited-edition liquid hand soap

Tough is an understatement to describe how the past year has been with the immense impact it brought to the daily lives and health of the Filipinos. The new normal has been challenging, and it has put significant pressure on our healthcare system. But tough can also be used for our frontliners, the first line of defense against increased cases of COVID-19.  They have been a symbol of strength, perseverance, and their dedication to do so makes them worthy of all the praises and gratitude.

To support Filipinos and more especially the nation’s healthcare frontline workers, Safeguard Philippines partnered with Mercury Drug Corporation to release 20,000 bottles of an all-new limited-edition liquid hand soap   an illustration of the modern-day medical frontliner. All sales profits from these bottles will be used to donate handwashing facilities in health centers in key cities at the center of the pandemic. This is a tribute of Safeguard to all medical frontliners, as one of the efforts under the #SAFEWash movement.

Gian Yap, Brand Director of Safeguard Philippines, said, “Through the tireless efforts of our frontliners, Filipinos’ health has been safeguarded despite the current situation. Therefore, we dedicate this collaboration to them, the frontliners, who have served as the Safeguardians of the Philippines and continue to do so. With the proper facilities and resources, we aim to extend their efforts through proper handwashing.”

“It is our honor to be a part of this collaboration as we express our gratitude to our frontliners who continue to keep us safeguarded through these challenging times. Your tireless efforts will not go unnoticed and will be championed with our commitment to serve Filipinos.” Mercury Drug Corporation shared through a representative.

Safeguard’s limited-edition liquid hand soap design is of a healthcare frontline worker with a mask. Through the design as well, they are tagged as the “Safeguardians of the Philippines.”

As a sign of gratitude to our frontliners, the brand hopes to uplift, strengthen, and extend the efforts of frontliners through Safeguard’s power to eliminate 99.9% of germs, and arming Filipinos with proper handwashing education and facilities.

Safeguard continues with their commitment to strengthen the handwashing practice of Filipinos by building Handwashing Hubs in public spaces

After Safeguard Philippines’ successful launch and run of the #SafeWash Movement, the brand continues with their commitment to strengthen the handwashing practice of Filipinos. The brand ensures that the knowledge on proper handwashing is met with work on ensuring there is hand hygiene access for Filipinos. With millions of Filipinos all over the country that still don’t have proper access to handwashing facilities, Safeguard partnered with Manila Water Foundation (MWF) to construct handwashing facilities all over Metro Manila; to add to the list of handwashing facilities they have built throughout the years.

A handwashing facility built under the #WASHinPandemic program in Pasig City.

Handwashing facilities are dispersed in public health centers, gymnasiums, markets, and transport terminals all over the metro, specifically in Pasig City, Marikina City, San Juan City, Mandaluyong City, Taguig City, and in the municipality of Pateros.

Another handwashing facility installed in Marikina City under the WASH in Pandemic program.

This is an addition to a 2019 sink construction project done by Procter & Gamble Philippines in Metro Manila that benefitted 50,000 Filipino students. Since the formation of P&G and MWF’s partnership last year, they have built handwashing facilities in 32 public schools nationwide. Through this project, Safeguard Philippines and MWF hope to ensure that as businesses reopen, Filipinos are able to cope and practice a SAFE new normal nationwide.

Hygiene kits containing Safeguard products were distributed during the inauguration of the handwashing facilities.

“It is our responsibility to help safeguard the health of every Filipino, particularly through handwashing. As business reopen and as quarantines ease up, we are helping build a SAFER new normal by ensuring that Filipinos have both the knowledge to practice a #SafeWash, and the facilities to be able to do so. With the right resources and the right soap, we aim to help curb improper handwashing in the Philippines”, said Gian Yap, Brand Director of Safeguard Philippines, P&G.

With the millions of Filipinos who participated in the #SafeWashMovement campaign, it has proven to be a success for Safeguard’s mission in mobilizing Filipinos to practice and maintain a safer Philippines. Yet, this is just the beginning of a greater mission for Safeguard, after bearing the success from the movement.

Safeguard’s Continuous Effort in Keeping Filipinos SAFE

For more than 54 years, Safeguard has been consistent with their support through providing significant change to the health and safety of the Philippines.

Safeguard has also partnered with SM Supermalls, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, and WalterMart to provide soap in malls nationwide. To provide safer transactions for day-to-day deliveries, Safeguard also locked in a partnership with Shopee by equipping 6,000 riders of the Shopee Express fleet with Safeguard hand sanitizers to keep deliveries safe. Even when running water and soap are not available, riders can still effectively practice proper hygiene through disinfection of their hands and parcels.

Safeguard’s mission in providing Filipinos proper hand hygiene education and access to handwashing facilities continues beyond the #SafeWash Movement. Through Safeguard’s power to eliminate 99.9% of germs, and Filipinos’ active participation in #SafeWash handwashing practices, we are one handwash away to a #SAFEPhilippines

Moms Anne Curtis and Rufa Mae Urge Parents That Teaching Kids About #SafeWash Begins at Home with Safeguard

It was in late September when the Philippine Handwashing Survey results showed that only 50% of Filipinos wash their hands properly. This “puwede na” mentality in handwashing prompted Safeguard to create the #SafeWash Movement by calling out all the ways Filipinos are not properly washing their hands. Safeguard collaborated with five of the top animation houses in the Philippines to produce a mass education video in a span of three weeks. The catchy rap song was also voiced by Gloc-9, the nation’s #1 rapper.

Thousands of Filipinos have also tuned in to show massive support for Safeguard at the #SafeWash Raprapan sa Global Handwashing Day that went live online last October 15, 2020. In the event, Fred D’ Germ bitterly accepted his defeat with the outpouring of comments from Safeguard fans. Through presenting the message in pop culture themes, Safeguard aims to reach more Filipinos to show how proper handwashing is done. Watch the video here.

Just like the hundreds of thousands of Filipinos that witnessed the unfolding of the #SafeWash movement, Mommy Rufa also had her own takeaways. “I’ve learned a lot from #SafeWash. Akala ko dati punas-punas lang ok na. ‘Di ba pag may nahulog, punas lang pwede pa daw kainin ulit? ‘Di pala ganon kasi malakas ang kapit ni Fred D’ Germ kaya i-todo ang handwash palagi.

“The biggest takeaway is definitely changing the way we wash our hands. We all have our own habits and it may not be the right way of washing our hands to make sure our family is properly protected.” Mommy Anne Curtis expressed that her family’s handwashing habits have rapidly changed as well. She continues, “As soon as I come home, I go straight to the sink to wash my hands and I really scrub between my fingers properly to make sure that I am removing all the germs I possibly can and using the 20 second rule.”

Safeguard was also invited by the Department of Health and UNICEF to share the #SafeWash movement at the recent Global Handwashing Day Symposium on October 16, 2020. The brand shared the roots of the #SafeWash movement and how the brand is also partnering with institutions to ensure that the push on handwashing education is enabled by ensuring there is access to hand washing facilities.

Filipinos Pledge to Practice #SafeWash Habits

Continuing what started as a battle cry against hand hygiene misinformation, celebrities, online personalities, and numerous communities have shared and posted videos — spreading support for the #SafeWash movement.

Mommy Rufa Mae Quinto shares to other moms her golden rule for handwashing. “My gogogolden rule is wash to the highest level. ‘Di pwede yung nagmamadali ipupunas kung saan lalo na sa katawan natin kasi kunakalat lang ang germs. Itodo ang safe wash! Wash wash always in all ways with Rufa Mae”. Like mommy Rufa, many Filipino parents are also being more creative and expressive when teaching their children, the proper handwashing way.

This is just the start for Safeguard’s #SafeWash Movement, and it’s here to stay with the brand’s commitment to strengthen proper handwashing education.

After being presented the repercussions of improper handwashing, we must all do our part to keep ourselves and our families from germs. The safe wash way doesn’t stop within our homes but should be done even when we are in public spaces. Let us keep reminding our loved ones, share videos, and post online to help spread the word on the safe wash way of handwashing. The safety of families lies on how attentive parents can be in reminding them to wash their hands.

“Always have soap available and try to instill that habit of washing their hands for at least 20 seconds or even longer if possible.” Mommy Anne reminds parents as a precaution from the threats of illness causing germs.

The #SafeWash Movement starts with every Filipino family in their own homes, keeping their loved ones from committing the improper handwashing habits as promoted by Fred D’ Germ. Through Safeguard’s power to eliminate 99.9% of germs, and correct handwashing practices, every trip to the sink is a guaranteed #SafeWash for a #SAFEPhilippines.
