Google, together with Ben&Ben launches "Mag-Ingat" to promote internet safety and digital responsibility

Google, together with Filipino folk pop band Ben&Ben launches a new song to promote internet safety and digital responsibility. Entitled “Mag-Ingat” (Be Safe Online), the song is part of Google’s commitment to helping Filipinos use the internet safely and responsibly.

The two-and-a-half minute Filipino song addresses online threats today including scams, misinformation, and catfishing, and the importance of critical thinking and verifying information using trusted sources to protect oneself and others. It also reminds netizens to be wary of bad actors who lurk in the online space, just like in the real world.

This newest single from the young band ends strongly with a bridge conveying that online safety is a shared responsibility–people are all stewards of the digital world. It’s all in the hands of netizens to use the internet right and care for the online safety of one another.

The catchy and lively tune was written and performed by Ben&Ben, the Philippines’ #1 local artist of 2021. The award-winning nine-piece act is known for mixing Filipino folk music with pop to create songs about hope, love, and positivity.

“Filipinos are highly social people and most of us interact with one another digitally. In such a world, it’s no wonder that while the internet brings so many advantages, it also opens us up to many dangers if we are not careful enough. With ‘Mag-ingat,’ we wanted to use our music to spread awareness on such a timely and important issue–because all of us are responsible for making sure that the internet is a safe and positive space for everyone,” said Miguel Benjamin of Ben&Ben.

“Internet safety is so important to Google. Beyond tools, products, and policies that enable us to help people stay safe online, we deepen our local partnerships to promote digital responsibility. By partnering with Ben&Ben and through their music, we believe that we can teach internet safety to more people in a way that deeply resonates with and becomes part of their everyday lives,” said Mervin Wenke, Head of Communications and Public Affairs, Google Philippines.

Google’s holistic approach to digital responsibility is helping millions of people to stay safe in the online space. Aside from security measures including the two-step verification process, and security and password checkups, it also introduced programs such as Be Internet Awesome with the Department of Education, and supported NGO campaigns like the Cyberpeace initiative of Teach Peace Build Peace Movement.

“We thank Google for being a steadfast partner in promoting and upholding the digital safety of Filipinos, and Ben&Ben for creating an anthem that will remind every Filipino who listens to it to ‘mag-ingat’ and take steps into becoming responsible netizens,” said Atty. John Henry Naga, National Privacy Commissioner.

The “Mag-ingat” music video is already available on Ben&Ben’s official YouTube channel. "Mag-ingat" is also available on all digital music services worldwide.

Ben&Ben is set to hold a massive fundraising online showcase entitled, “Puhon: A Ben&Ben FB Live Event for the COVID-19 Efforts.”

The nine-piece collective will be performing some of their biggest hits for a one-hour live stream show while staying in their respective homes. The Facebook Live Jam will happen on March 27, 2020 (Friday) at 7:00 PM. It will serve as a launch pad for the band’s community-initiative website, www.puhon.ph, which aims to inspire, uplift and boost the collective morale of all the key stakeholders of the COVID-19 response through uplifting stories, music, art, and more.

The platform will also provide an opportunity for people to contribute to the ongoing efforts in helping the frontliners and urban poor community affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

“As artists, we believe that in a crisis like this we are called to do what we can to help—may it be by sending messages of hope, making efforts in raising funds for this crisis, or others,” shares the band in a statement.
All proceeds from this project are to raise funds for COVID19 test kits, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and nutrition support for frontline healthcare workers, and relief goods for daily wage earners. The upcoming online concert is in partnership with YSEALI, Limitless Lab, and the Asian Institute of Management - Team Energy Center For Bridging Leadership.

7 Must-Hear Millennial OPM Artists from Sindikato Management

As someone who belongs to a generation of Rock and Roll, I think I’d always prefer rock bands over solo performers—there are exceptions of course like Ebe Dancel,  Johnoy Danao, Rico Blanco and Franco.

So I guess I’m one of those who are happy that there are a lot of new bands making the OPM scene a lot more interesting again just like in the 90’s and the Eraserheads Era.

                                                             Sud

                                                       Ben&Ben

A few weeks ago I wrote a story about a band called Crib, and just last week I was invited to the launch of Sindikato—a new management company that handles bands—both new ones and some, like Kean Cipriano and Callalily who have already established quite a following.

I also admit that I feel more in love with the thought of being in love because of the cheesy, but catchy millennial songs that my partner and I listen to when we’re driving and surprisingly were from the bands that are being managed by Sindikato.

This generation of musicians with a raspy and cool voice and a mushy lyrics inspire everyone who are in a relationship, brokenhearted, moved on or separated with the way they sing or interpret their songs.

Among the songs on our current playlist are Kathang Isip from Ben&Ben

Kathang Isip - Ben&Ben

This is one of the breakup songs that will make you remember everything with your ex.  This is "The Write Moment's " OST.  I forgot about this until I attended Sindikato's event lately.

I love the lyrics especially the part

"Kaya't pasensya ka na

Sa mga kathang isip kong ito

Wari'y dala lang ng pagmamahal sa iyo

Ako'y gigising na

Mula sa panaginip kong ito

At sa wakas ay kusang lalayo sa iyo"

It’s a song for those who have been friendzoned or have yet to accept that its time to move on and meet someone new and wake up from their “illusion” and false hopes.

Another is Sana Bumalik from Sud. This is also one of the breakup songs for those who has not moved on yet. Love the intro music and the lyrics. Tagos na tagos sa puso lalo na dun sa part na

"Sana di ko na maalala, lahat ng  tawa mo't halik, sana dumating ang araw, Na di na ikaw, pero ikaw pa rin"

                                                         Hulyo

Then there’s Kahit Isang Saglit- Hulyo. This band reminds me of Sugarfree. Yung banat ng mga kanta and lyrics silang sila. Lalo na with this song.

                                                            Fern
And then there’s FERN, Fern who is only 17 y/o write and co produced this single "Into You" which sounds like it was from a foreign artist plus the music video has an 80s vibe which I like.

                                                       Callalily

"Para sa lahat ng taong nagmahal, nagtiis, nasaktan at naghintay magbago yung taong pinakamamahal nila at sa dulo ay nagpatawad."-Lemuel Belaro, Callalily Drummer. Written by Lemuel Belaro. Kean Cipriano’s band is still dishing out new songs and this new single will easily make your playlist.

                                                       Unit 406

Sindikato launched a new generation of OPM talents last July at 12 Monkeys, El Pueblo QC. and through the mini concert and their performances are reassuring that OPM will always be thriving thanks to creative new talents.
=========

Before the Internet, musicians were experienced live or seen on MTV. These days, if an artist has no online presence, they might as well be invisible.

Thankfully, SINDIKATO is no stranger to all these platforms. With years of video production experience that cross over generations, SINDIKATO has trained its eye for great talent.

Now, they welcome a growing roster of artists.

                                                Sindikato

SINDIKATO started in 2006 with a group of college buddies who shared a passion for video production. From creating short films and original content, they ventured into music videos for various local artists. Even as they gained traction with brand advertising projects, SINDIKATO continued to work with musicians.
With one foot already in the door, perhaps it was inevitable for SINDIKATO to enter the music industry. Currently, they manage the careers of some popular and emerging artists: CALLALILY, SUD, BEN&BEN, HULYO, FIGHTING RIVER BLINDNESS, UNIT406, and FERN.

According to SINDIKATO General Manager Edzon Rapisora, they have always loved collaborating with artists. “One of the reasons we decided to delve into talent management is that we didn’t want to be just a video production house that creates music videos for musicians. We aim to do bigger things for the people we work with, even for artists outside the music industry.”

“What’s best about us is that we’re Pro-Artist. We want to give opportunities to our talents and we let them use our platforms; we let them use the skill set of SINDIKATO to help them grow their craft. We believe in their abilities and we want them to spread their talent so that more people can appreciate their music,” shares Enzo Valdez, SINDIKATO’s Chief Executive Officer.

Beyond managing their talents, SINDIKATO aims to be a partner to each of their artists in making an impact and influencing the world through their music. The company’s primary goal is to capture a global audience for their artists.

                                            Fighting River Blindness

SINDIKATO reflects the commitment and determination of their artists – and their big require big movers and shakers. With their skills and knowledge, SINDIKATO Management fights to earn a place on the world stage.
