Thanksgiving treats at Gumbo New Orleans Restaurant

On the fourth Thursday of November, Gumbo New Orleans Restaurant joins in commemorating this one of the most important holidays in the US, Canada and several countries including the Philippines. Thanksgiving Day is a joyous family festival celebrated with lots of enthusiasm.  On this day people express gratitude to God for His blessings and give thanks to dear ones for their love and support.

Have a taste of New Orleans at Gumbo

 I had a pleasure of dining at Gumbo Restaurant last February 3 with selected bloggers. The SM Megamall branch could seat around  70 to 80 customers.  It has a Mardi gras feel to its interiors, as if you are dining in New Orleans, even the service crews wore their signature Mardi gras colorful headdresses, which was festive to look at.

We were served our first dish the original "Gumbo" which according to manager, Mr. Albert consists of okra to thicken the sauce, bell pepper, celery, onion, and rice placed in the center of the dish. To fully enjoyed Gumbo, you have to mix everything and served it right away. I love that it was spicy and delicious at that.

Gumbo according to wikipedia is a dish that originated in southern Louisiana from the Louisiana Creole people during the 18th century. It typically consists primarily of a strongly flavored stock, okra, meat or shellfish, a thickener, and seasoning vegetables.

Next to enjoy was the Seafood Jambalaya, the service crews chanted altogether when a dining costumer order this dish. Its a mixture of squid, mussels, onion leeks and fried rice and again this has a mild spiciness to it, which I loved. But you can ask the crew to lessen the spices or add more according to your desired taste.

Puttanesca was put on the table to balance the flavor of other dishes offered. The tomato sauce with grated cheese overpowered the spiciness of other dish I tasted, which was all right.

The family feast is a meal on itself, it has the smoky savoury ribs, fried cream dory, chicken, shrimps, skewered vegetables and fried rice to complete your meal.

I ordered Dalandan shake to wash down the meals that I partook that day. I asked the waiter to lessen the sugar which turned out the way I like my Dalandan shake to be. Fresh and fruity.

We were served Mississippi Mud Pie and New Orleans Bread Pudding for desserts. The Mississippi Mud Pie or chocolate mud pie is a frozen dark chocolate ice cream drizzled with chocolate syrup on top.

This New Orleans Bread Pudding was served hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, the warm moist taste of pudding compliments the vanilla ice cream, and this was the perfect combination.
