Jericho counts on Advil to help him cope with the demands of his career

Jericho Rosales sure is one busy guy. Apart from a steady stream of blockbuster movies and much-awaited teleseryes, the actor is a surfer, biker, and businessman. Right before COVID-19, he just finished a big project that took almost two years. He was looking forward to taking a break, which involves going to the beach or taking his bike out, but the pandemic hit and he was forced to stay indoors.

“It sucks not to be on set. And obviously hearing people dying left and right. Not being able to even hug your family sucks,” Rosales says.

In fact, the reality of the pandemic didn’t hit him right away. He adds, “Parang delayed reaction ‘yung sakin. It struck me in June or July. Noong March, it was okay pa but June, July, doon ako medyo tinamaan ng konti.”

During the early days of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), he busied himself with relief operations and fundraising events such as Ulysses Relief Fund which was spearheaded by his wife Kim Jones.[1] While the entertainment industry took a break, he tried to create online shows but most of his early ideas were location-based. Eventually, he found a hit with Gabi na Naman with Jericho Rosales, an online show with celebrity guests.

He also hit his stride in his personal life. Today, he is based in La Union with his entire family. He says, “We've all settled and relaxed, and we've kind of embraced reality na this could be it for us.”

These days, Rosales is keeping busy with domestic duties such as cleaning, walking the dog, going to the garden, and executing do-it-yourself projects. He’s had his film camera fixed, allowing him to experiment with photography.

He’s also staying healthy by watching the food he eats. Rosales stays active by swimming, surfing, running, walking, and calisthenics. Rosales says, “moving to the province, mas healthy ka.”

The quarantine has made his life goals more defined. It taught him to focus on the importance of a balanced life and the things that make him happy. More importantly, he learned to be more hopeful and to think positive.

“There are times when you're restless. You just try to be creative and at the same time not pressure yourself. At the end of the day it's all about safety and staying healthy. It's all about staying healthy [mentally] also,” he shares.

With all the things that he’s handling now, it’s expected that something’s got to give. He says, “I always get headaches because of working out and because of stress. My work is super high-stress. So I just normally retreat, take a break, take some Advil, and then go back to work.”

Rosales counts on Advil to help him cope with the demands of his career. The actor reveals that he has Advil everywhere, from his RV to his car and his “little kikay kit.”

Advil Liqui-Gel is stronger than paracetamol. It offers fast-acting relief for that ‘pabigat’ feeling that stops people from being their best selves. Advil is designed to treat headaches, backaches, muscle aches, migranes, toothaches, menstrual pain, minor arthritis and other joint pain. It can also provide temporary relief from fever.

The Advil Liqui-Gel variant is also absorbed two times faster than ordinary ibuprofen tablets, meaning you can feel pain relief faster with one capsule of Advil.

Rosales can count on Advil as he shares that he’s about to shoot a film in Los Angeles. Right now, he’s waiting to be vaccinated before flying to the U.S.A. He says, “I'm very excited because we're going to be shooting in L.A., and I'll be working with a Fil-Am director who's based there.”

“I just can't announce anything but I've gotten the names of the people I'm gonna be working with and it's medyo scary ng konti but it’s fun,” he adds.

While waiting for the next steps for his upcoming film, Rosales shares some advice for those still coping with the pandemic. He shares, “If you have enough to get by or at least to survive, that's enough for now. It's not the year to get rich. We have to embrace what the world is telling us. Just pause for a bit and look around, see what kind of life you’re living.”

Since winning the title of “Mr. Pogi” in 1996, Jericho Rosales has grown before the eyes of millions of Filipinos. Today, aside from being a full-fledged actor, Echo is also a noted singer, established businessman, and loving husband, among other real-life roles he plays.

Along with being committed to his craft and personal life, the new Great Taste Brown Barako coffee endorser makes it a point to live a meaningful, well-balanced life. His lengthy showbiz stint has taught him the value of pursuing his career along with other endeavors to keep his passions aflame.

On his artistry and passion
Being a multitalented artist who spent most of his young adult years in the limelight, Echo has explored different directions before he met himself holistically. Sharing how he remains creative and true to who he is, Echo replied, “When you’re true to yourself, it’s not really a problem to be creative. Things just naturally come in, and you’ll be surprised to have a lot of options. That’s how it has been it for the last two decades.”

When asked if he has any advocacies he feels strongly about, he proudly shares, “It’s a lot of things, and one concern is the environment.” As one who loves the beach and surfing, Jericho has done several coastal cleanups in various areas nationwide together with partner organizations. Although for him, one should first be a person who cares, before becoming an advocate.

“I guess the greatest advocacy that I have is just care. We can do so many things, but it’s all deeply-rooted in caring and loving,” Echo said. “It may not look like it’s a lot, but being mindful and learning how to coexist encompasses everything, and that alone makes a great difference.”

On looking back on his best works
Jericho has played numerous film and TV roles, but if he were to choose one that he’d always go back to as it left such a huge impact on him, Echo said that it would probably be the role of Lieutenant Ricarte in Marilou Díaz-Abaya’s Bagong Buwan.

“One scene that has always stuck with me was when he was shouting, ‘Ceasefire! Ceasefire!’ To me it was his call for peace – it had so much to say about our society and the world that we’re living in.”

On finding the right balance
Now with years of experience under his belt, Jericho sets his sights on the next chapter of his life. Having contributed so much in the local showbiz industry, Echo finds solace in spending most of his free time at home with his family, but still being creative.

“For the past 20 years I’ve never felt so free – so now, when I have time to spare, I just stay home and write songs or watch films.” When asked what helps him stay creative, Echo said, “Coffee.”

“The new Great Taste Brown Barako is a perfect fit for me. It has this strong kick because it’s Barako, yet it’s sweet, so that balance is really what I’m looking for.”

Why you should never drive hungry

What do you store in your car aside from bottled water? We keep food that isn’t too messy, we have it in our plastic containers, like granola bars, crackers, nuts, seeds, cereal, and dried fruit. We keep food handy in case hunger strikes. We avoid junk food as much as possible.

Shell recently held an event "What Drives You" at White Space Manila on Feb 27  about Shell Driving Experiment study. The event was attended by Cleary Ahern, a Doctoral Researcher from Goldsmiths, University of London. Ahern was then joined by other panelists composed of subject matter experts including motoring enthusiast and actor Jericho Rosales, champion racer Michele Bumagarner, and health and diet guru Nadine Tengco.

Hunger pangs are common for most of us, especially after toiling all day over a computer stuck behind a desk job. That moment when your stomach suddenly feels hollow and starts to gurgle tends to strike right when you’re in middle of the infamous Manila traffic on the way home. And when we’re hungry and craving, we do things we don’t normally and rationally do – like getting ‘hangry,’ for example. Considering the amount of time we spend on the road, it’s not too farfetched to say driving hungry is one of the reasons why we experience terrible and exhausting trips.

This is one of the things that Shell found out in the Shell Driving Experiment, a groundbreaking worldwide study that uses cutting-edge emotional intelligence technology, ChatBots, mobile apps, and weather and traffic information to uncover drivers’ food and drink preferences and driving performance during everyday rides. Shell worked with experts from Goldsmiths, University of London, to monitor the data points from over 2,000 participants worldwide in order to measure the driver performance score of each country and learn about the different factors that affect their performance.

The results of the study were revealed during the ‘What Drives You’ launch event on February 27, which featured interactive installations and a panel of specialists discussing the research findings.

Hunger drops driving performance and concentration
After Philippine participants across three key areas – Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao – logged in more than 1,700 journeys and 26,592 responses to the ChatBot about their physiological state of hunger, the Shell Driving Experiment uncovered several interesting findings about Filipino drivers.

The experiment showed that feeling hungry or thirsty can impact your driving performance, showing that drivers who crave food or hydration don’t perform as well on the road. This decreases the smoothness of a driver’s journey, negatively correlating to a smoother trip score.
Tengco, a famous health guru, shared her two cents on the results. She said, “Just like how you need to fuel up your car before going on a drive, our body needs our own fill as well. Driving while you’re hungry, especially in this heavy traffic, can really affect your mood and focus, which can have detrimental effects to your driving.”

Food for driving
Of course, the type and the amount of food that one consumes play an important role on one’s daily energy levels. In fact, did you know that turkey actually makes you sleepy?

“Food rich in Omega-3 can enhance mood, relieve stress, and increase alertness. But many other nutrients and flavors are associated with increased wakefulness and alertness such as nuts, citruses, and dark chocolates. More than that, staying hydrated is important.” Tengco said.

The other factors that come into play
Family has always played a big part in the lives of Filipinos, and this was also apparent in the Shell Driving Experiment. Evidence linking the presence of children and additional passengers in the car to better driving performance was consistent throughout the study.

The Shell Driving Experiment also confirmed that stress is a constant emotion felt by Filipinos on the road. Destination is also another factor, with findings showing that drivers who are on their way to work are more stressed than those who are on the road for other purposes.

The study even busted the myth that driving performance is dictated by gender. The biggest indicator of how well a person performs behind the wheel is, in fact, their personality type – which was revealed as the two personality archetypes of the Modern Man and the Gamma Woman.

Giving importance to every ride
For over a hundred years, Pilipinas Shell has gone the extra mile for Filipino motorists – from taking care of their vehicles with the help of Shell quality fuels and services, to fueling drivers with delicious and convenient meals and beverages at Shell Select and Deli2Go. Shell’s constant pursuit of excellence for the sake of their customers continues through the Shell Driving Experiment.

“The Shell Driving Experiment is part of Shell’s efforts to understand the changing needs of our customers,” shares Anthony Lawrence Yam, Vice President for Retail at PIlipinas Shell. “This helps us create better products and services, such as developing new fuels like Shell V-Power with DYNAFLEX Technology and the expansion of our non-fuel offers at Shell Select, which are relevant in improving the driving experience of Filipinos. At the end of the day, our goal is making life’s journeys better for every Filipino on the road.”

By providing quality fuel products and services to motorists around the world, Shell gained its foothold as a global leader in power and energy. It pioneers next generation technology in developing new sources for a reliable energy mix, producing smarter products as well as promoting smarter use. Shell strives to build smarter infrastructure and provide energy efficient engineering solutions that promote clean and efficient transport and sustainable mobility.

Through finding out and understanding how Filipinos feel and what really matters most for Filipinos, Shell continues its mission to allow men and women to go well on the road, wherever they want to go.

‘Siargao’ took home seven major awards in Metro Manila Film Festival 2017

Before Siargao was shown to the public on Christmas Day as an entry to MMFF 2017. I was able to watch the special block screening for the media on Dec 21, 2017 at Greenbelt 3, Makati.

I was drawn to Siargao because of their pristine beach. I heard so many things about this tourist destination from my partner who went there last year.

The beach indeed was superbly shot from all angles. From top view to the underwater scene,  catching its beautiful waves and sunset.   It simply took my breath away.  I knew right then and there that they will bag the Best Cinematography for this film.

Kudos to the actors who played their part well.  Jericho was a natural for his role as Diego, Jasmine Curtis as Abi was a revelation.  Erich as a vlogger was amusing and funny. Director Paul Soriano captured the best of Siargao, its beach, locals and the story fit the actors well.

I have never been to Siargao but right after the movie. I have been checking up affordable flight deals for a 5-day staycation. I am planning to take surf lessons too. The best part is I will try to travel solo just like Erich do in the movie.

"Siargao"held a Thanksgiving mini presscon on January 4 at Relish, Tomas Morato. Director Paul Soriano graced the presscon, thanking everyone and the social media for continuously promoting the movie thru tweets and instagram. He told that this is indeed the start of a Happy New Year for him.

Siargao’ bags seven major awards in Metro Manila Film Festival 2017
Paul Soriano’s first venture into the Metro Manila Film Festival has been more than rewarding as his film Siargao starring Jericho Rosales, Erich Gonzales and Jasmine Curtis-Smith ruled in the recently-concluded Gabi ng Parangal held at the KIA Theater last December 27.

The Ten17P director’s first foray into the romance-travel genre earned him and his team seven major awards, the most during that night, from the MMFF executive committee.

Siargao took home the coveted second Best Picture award while Soriano bagged his first ever Best Director trophy from the MMFF.

Curtis-Smith, meanwhile, took home the Best Supporting Actress award for her exceptional the environmentalist Abi who happens to be the former love interest of Diego, played by Jericho Rosales.

Siargao’s Mark Victor bagged the Best Editor trophy while the film was awarded Best Cinematography for perfectly capturing the Surfing Capital of the Philippines’ signature herculean, clear waves and its bright and picturesque island and locals.

Allowing the movie to sail further was it’s theme song “Alon” by local alternative rock band Hale, which also bagged the Best Original Theme song award. Not only that, the film was also awarded Best Sound during that night.
Soriano gratefully shared the award to his artists, staff and crew, as he noted that the awards that his film raked in made his debut in the festival memorable.
However, amid the awards, Paul was able to cull an important insight during the entire MMFF process.

“But if there’s one thing that this festival has really taught me is that not everybody is going to like what you make and not everyone is going to appreciate what you made,” he said.

“But there are people that get what I want to say and it’s because of those people that I will continue to tell stories, to continue to make films because this is what I love to do,” he said during his Best Director acceptance speech.

Paul Soriano’s Siargao starring Jericho Rosales, Erich Gonzales and Jasmine Curtis-Smith is still showing in selected cinemas nationwide as part of the Metro Manila Film Festival 2017.

Prepare to fall in love in Siargao: An MMFF 2017 Movie Entry

I have never been to Siargao, but after watching the movie, a favorite surfing destination and an entry to MMFF this year. I am planning to book a plane anytime today. I wish I have the precious time to do so. It has been in my bucket list this year.  The beauty of Siargao was captured through the lens of Director Paul Soriano.

Im a fan of Jericho Rosales, having watched all his movies. Siargao is a welcome respite for him. He's a natural in the movie. He never loses his touch.  But I admit I liked him better when he is surfing. Because that's what he do best during his free time. He is looking good and buff in the movie same with Champion surfer/IG idol Luke Landrigan.

The under water shots are pretty amazing too and captured the best under water scene. The film should be nominated for Best Cinematography . The shots were awesome and perfect. If you want a light romance with a beautiful beach as back drop, its time to watch Siargao. It also stars Erich Gonzales and Jasmine Curtis-Smith.

Luke Landrigan

Fresh from a public outburst and on the verge of quitting his band, 32-year old high-pro le musician DIEGO PUNZALAN takes a trip to his province of Siargao to take a break from Manila’s public eye and rethink his place in his band.

There, he meets 29-year old LAURA MOLINA, a perky but sassy fashion and beauty vlogger, who was recently dumped by her longtime boyfriend, Mikey, from whom she declined a wedding proposal. She has embarked on a solo trip to nurse her broken heart and challenge her fear of risks and independence.

With tension and chemistry running high, Diego challenges Laura to step out of her boundaries as they explore the places he once called home. Going back to his hometown also means going back to face the issues he left behind, including seeing ABI WILLIAMS, his Fil-Australian 27 year old former  fame, the muse of many of his older love songs, one he shared a deep and heartbreaking history with.

In this small and secluded surf town where time moves slowly and people might come and go – but sometimes, never leave – the unlikely triangle of Diego, Laura, and Abi  and themselves returning to their past decisions and mistakes while uncertain about the future that lies ahead. Where the tides change quickly and the ocean never stays still, they learn to take chances, and learn that, perhaps, commitment might be the biggest risk they will ever have to make.
