Empowering Women Through Economic Recovery and Legal Reform: Kate Coseteng's Vision with Kababaihan Partylist

In the upcoming 2025 elections, Quezon City Councilor Kate Galang-Coseteng steps into the national spotlight as the first nominee of #128 Kababaihan Partylist. With a career rooted in public service and advocacy, Coseteng aims to champion women's economic empowerment and push for legal reforms that address the unique challenges faced by Filipinas today.

Championing Women's Economic Empowerment

Recognizing the systemic barriers that hinder women's financial independence, Coseteng proposes a Micro-Finance Support in Business for Women program. This initiative seeks to provide accessible loans ranging from ₱25,000 to ₱500,000, tailored for small to medium enterprises led by women. By simplifying the loan process and offering financial literacy training, the program aims to empower women to pursue entrepreneurship without the intimidation of complex bureaucratic procedures.

"We will be giving business loans to women so they can empower themselves financially, and not be forced to stay with abusive life partners for survival," Coseteng emphasizes.

Advocating for a Fair and Accessible Divorce Law

Coseteng also addresses the pressing need for a more equitable divorce law in the Philippines. She advocates for a revised divorce bill that maintains clear grounds—such as domestic violence, abandonment, infidelity, and drug abuse—while ensuring the process is accessible and not financially prohibitive. This approach seeks to protect the sanctity of marriage while providing a viable escape for those in irreparable and harmful relationships.

"Annulment in the Philippines is extremely expensive, making it impossible for many women to leave unhappy or unsafe marriages. Divorce should be fair, accessible, and capable of providing financial security for women and their children," Coseteng states.

A Vision for Inclusive Progress

Beyond economic and legal reforms, Coseteng envisions a society where women are fully empowered—economically, politically, and socially. Through Kababaihan Partylist, she aims to implement policies that support women's health, protect against online trafficking and abuse, and promote gender equality and LGBT rights.

"At Kababaihan Partylist, we are fighting for real change—change that uplifts women and ensures they have equal rights, equal opportunities, and a better future," she asserts.

Kate Coseteng's candidacy under Kababaihan Partylist represents a commitment to addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by Filipinas. Her focus on economic empowerment and legal reform underscores a broader vision of a society where women are not just surviving but thriving. As the 2025 elections approach, her platform offers a roadmap for inclusive and progressive change.
