SM Cinema partners with Hygiea to give moviegoers safe and fun movie experiences

Gone are the days when you’re limited to staying at home and coping with the boredom and stress amid the pandemic. The long wait for watching exciting movies on the big screen is over!

The pioneer in cinema digitization in the Philippines, SM Cinema has now re-opened its doors to moviegoers with 35 cinemas nationwide for exclusive screenings and safe and fun movie experiences in partnership with Hygiea.

Hygiea Innovations and Technology, Inc. is the largest pioneer in implementing the use of technology to eliminate harmful bacteria and viruses in every business and personal space and install MERV filters and air purifiers in the theaters. Hygiea offers the world’s first silver-ion infused air-handling unit (AHU) filters.

As one of the first establishments to acquire a Safety Seal certification from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), SM remains committed to the safety and well-being of mallgoers. All SM Cinema branches have also been awarded the Safety Seal certification.

You can now sit back and enjoy the big screen experience at SM Cinema without worry as the cinemas are now equipped with the Aurabeat Air Purifiers, which eliminate  99.9% of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 -- in just 15 minutes. The purifier uses silver-ion technology and five-stage disinfection to help dismantle the viruses and filter the air.

Bringing of food and drinks is also temporarily prohibited inside the theaters. 

SM Cinema strictly adheres to the government’s mandated COVID-19 safety protocols and will only allow fully vaccinated moviegoers inside the theatre. The cinemas will operate at 50% capacity in areas under Alert Level 2. For areas under Alert Level 3, the 30% seating capacity will be followed and only fully vaccinated moviegoers aged 12 years old and above are allowed inside the cinema.

SM Cinema took home three bronzes and one gold—in the prestigious 2020 Stevie Awards

SM Cinema, the Philippines’ leader in movie entertainment, recently took home a slew of top honors—three bronzes and one gold—in the prestigious 2020 Stevie Awards. As the world’s premier business awards, The Stevie Award judges include many of the world's most respected executives, entrepreneurs, innovators, and business educators. 

 

These awards recognize SM Cinema’s aim towards making moviegoing more inclusive, enticing and exciting, and most of all, help foster family ties in a big way.

 

In the Award for Innovation in Community Relations and Public Service Communications category, SM Cinema’s entries — Into the Moors: A special exhibit for children with special needs, and SM Cinema’s “Kids Watch for Free”: Championing Filipino families through movie watching, bagged bronze awards each. 

 

Meanwhile, in the Award for Innovation in Entertainment Events category, SM Cinema’s entry —SM Cinema Into the Movieverse: Bringing the cinema experience into the real world, also won a bronze.

 

For Into the Moors: A special exhibit for children with special needs, SM invited the children of Deaf and Blind Foundation Philippines, an institution that caters to the educational and physical welfare of PWD kids, where they were treated to a multi-sensory exhibition, allowing them to experience the tale of Maleficent through a specially-made Braille system. Thus, SM Cinema becomes known as a place for all as everyone gets to experience and enjoy going to the movies. 

 

For “Kids Watch for Free”: Championing Filipino families through movie watching, SM featured a kid-friendly title every month, wherein children under the age of twelve can watch the movie free of admission, given that they are accompanied by a paying adult. This helped strengthen family relationships—fun bonding moments—through movie watching!

 

For SM Cinema Into the Movieverse: Bringing the cinema experience into the real world, SM Cinema embarked on a “Reel-to-Real” campaign which showcased various movie-themed special events inside some of the biggest SM malls in the country, bringing movies to life and bring cinemagoers to a movieverse beyond the theater walls.

Meanwhile, in the Award for Innovation in Entertainment Events category, SM Cinema’s entry, Sine Sindak: A winning Halloween movie event, won a gold award.

Here, eight (8) spine-tingling and scream inducing horror film features were screened, each one handpicked by the booking and marketing teams of SM Cinema, with fun side activations and events. These included a special press screening with games and cosplayers in creepy costumes that spurred interest in movie watching while making the trip extra thrilling!

What makes these efforts innovative and unique is how these were able to engage mallgoers with exciting activations, Instagram-worthy and larger-than-life installations and interactive displays, as well as through fan fests and meet-and-greets. Similarly, these activities also impacted the local entertainment industry by attractive movie and TV celebrities and influencers, garnering conversations and engagements online and on social media.

A throwback to the good old days of drive-in theaters, SM Cinema relives this experience for a new generation to enjoy, bringing them a fresh avenue for a #SafeAndFunMovieWatching crusade from the comfort of their cars.

 

Opening at SM City Pampanga Amphitheater, SM Cinema’s “Movies at Sundown” allows guests to watch movies on the big screen while observing social distancing rules set by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF). 

Starting today, Friday, July 31, 2020, it will open to the general public featuring the movies’ “Train to Busan 2: Peninsula” and “My Spy.

 

The “SM Cinema Drive-in: Movies at Sundown” experience

A first in the Philippines, SM Cinema’s drive-in theater takes Filipino viewers to a new horizon of movie-watching.

 

Guests will be assigned their own parking spots to be guided by traffic marshalls. Once settled, spectators can see the film of their choice on a 20m x 8m screen raised 3-feet above the ground, and will be asked to tune in to a specific frequency on their car’s FM radio to broadcast the audio straight into their vehicles.

 

Guests can also choose the 6:30PM or 8:50PM schedules from July 31 to August 2. In the succeeding weeks, schedules will be every Thursday to Sundays at 6:45PM. And what’s a drive-in cinema without movie snacks? For a ticket price of only P400 per person, this gives viewers the chance to relish in a new cinematic experience paired with a free Regular Popcorn, Bottled Water, and Beef Franks from SnackTime.

 

A #SafeAndFunMovieWatching for Filipinos

Optimizing the best view for all guests, two (2) persons can be inside the car and a maximum of four (4) guests will be allowed. Attendees must also be between the ages 21 and 59, pursuant to the safety guidelines set by the IATF. For added safety, viewers will also be asked to stay inside their vehicles with their masks on and practice social distancing all throughout the duration of the movie.

 

 

 

Tickets for SM Cinema’s “Movies at Sundown” must be purchased online in advance at www.smtickets.com to ensure an uninterrupted viewing experience. No tickets will be sold at the venue, and viewers are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before their scheduled screening.

Visit The Lion King's "Into the Jungle’ Exhibit at SM The Block

To all the fans of The Lion King, the movie. There is an "Into the Jungle" mall set up with interactive displays at SM The Block Atrium prior to the showing of the movie.  Bring your kids with you to enjoy the activities such as rock and rope climbing and animal face painting.

After watching Unsane at the SM Director's Club Cinema, I googled the main character Claire Foy. She scared the wits out of me with her character Sawyer Valentini in "Unsane". This movie reminds me so much of Misery but with a twist. I never mind watching this again when it opens on March 21 at the SM Cinema theatres.

SM Cinema invited guests to get intimate with Sawyer Valentini and her fears at the exclusive media screening of Unsane, held at the Director’s Club Cinema in SM Megamall.

Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Unsane is about a young woman who visits a psychiatrist, as she believes she is being stalked by her estranged boyfriend for the last two years. The real terror begins when she becomes involuntarily committed to a mental institution only to find out she’s been followed in by her greatest fear. Drugged and isolated, Valentini starts doubting herself—is everything her delusion?

Amazingly the movie is shot completely on an iPhone.
