Janine Gutierrez wins Best Actress for Babae At Baril

It was all a matter of time, and for Kapuso star Janine Gutierrez, it came during the QCinema International Film Festival

Janine, who is part of showbiz royalty (she is the grand daughter of the Superstar Nora  Aunor, and her parents are Lotlot DeLeon and Ramon Christopher), won her first Best Actress trophy for the movie Babae At Baril.

Janine plays a saleslady whose life changes after she discovers a gun at her doorstep and finds courage to fight back. The film also stars  Felix Roco and JC Santos, and  directed by Rae Red who also won the Best Director award.

Babae at Baril also won the Gender Sensitivity award.

In an interview with PEP.ph, Janine said, "Sobrang happy, sobrang thankful po ako sa mga taong naniwala, nagtiwala, at nagbigay ng parangal na ito, as in super thank you po!"

She then expressed her gratitude to the team and dedicated her win to all empowered women in the country.

“Para sa lahat ng babaeng lumaban at patuloy na lumalaban, thank you po,” she said.

Janine admits she wasnt expecting to win and was just there to show her support to her  director and crew.

"Hindi po talaga. I really went here to support my director and the whole crew, the whole cast, so this is such a huge bonus for me, as in, super," she said.

Babae at Baril is produced by CIGNAL ENTERTAINMENT, the new original content division of CIGNAL, in partnership EPIC MEDIA. The movie was one of the big winners during the awards night.

Synopsis:
Janine (Girl) is a saleslady in a local department store. Her everyday life is composed of an exhausting commute home; the Manager who always seems to have something to say about her physical state; her co-worker, Ted who is obviously interested in her but can't take a hint; from the catcallers near where she lives. When she finally gets home, there's no one there but her Roommate who couldn't care less about her.

All that is about to change when she finds a peculiar looking gun right on her doorstep. Suddenly, she can do anything she wants, talk back to whoever she wants, and even hurt anyone she wants.

The film stars Janine Gutierrez, Felix Roco , Elijah Canlas , JC Santos, and Sky Teotico with special participation of Ruby Ruiz, Allan Paule, and Archie Adamos and will be shown in selected cinemas from October 15 to 22, 2019.

Babae at Baril is director Rae Red’s sophomore feature and first solo directorial effort. The movie tackles how it is like to be a woman in a world of violence and masculinity.

Babae at Baril is one of the three recipients of production grants amounting to P1.5 million each from QCinema. The movie will be competing along with Glenn Barit’s The Cleaners and Arnel Barbarona’s Kaaway sa Sulod, against entries from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, and China.

QCinema 2019 runs from October 13 to 22 at Gateway Mall, Ayala Trinoma, Robinsons Galleria, UPFI Cine Adarna, Cinema ’76 Anonas, and Cinema Centenario in Quezon City.
