Lyceum of the Philippines University Laguna and Western Institute of Technology won Goldilocks' Artful Cake Battle

Its that time of the year when Goldilocks celebrates inter-collegiate cake decorating competition with the best culinary students from competing universities. This year’s theme is “Dance” masterpiece for Novice category, while “Musical”, “ Wedding” and Over All for Advance category.

Goldilocks once again gave creative culinary arts students center stage to turn their cakes into masterful works of art in their Cake Battle, the inter-collegiate cake decorating challenge.

This year, a total of ten teams split into two categories - Novice and Advanced - all vying for the title of champion cake decorators. The winners of the competition would also get P250,000.00 worth of baking showcase plus P20,000.00 worth of Goldilocks Gift Certificates for the Advance Category and P100,000.00 worth of baking showcase plus P10,000.00 worth of Goldilocks Gift Certificates for Novice category as prizes for the competition.

“Goldilocks really values the young talent we get to see every year we have our Cake Battle,” says Goldilocks Marketing Director, Cherry Caluya. “For this year’s Cake Battle, we wanted to focus on the creativity and talent of young Filipinos when they create beautiful masterpieces. We believe that cake decorating puts the art of baking to the next level, and the talent we have as Filipinos is endless.”

As the country's number one bakeshop, Goldilocks has been hosting their inter-collegiate cake decorating competition for over a decade now. Together with Gourdo’s and Avoset, Goldilocks was able to set the stage for the Goldilocks Cake Battle 2019 as they provided the materials and ingredients for each team to use in the competition. Many teams from Culinary schools, universities and college all over the Philippines show off their skill in decorating cakes, ranging from elegant to out of this world. With so much talent participating this year, the competition was definitely fierce.

Over 100 Culinary and Hospitality Management schools sent teams to compete in this year's Cake Battle, that began early this year. Only ten teams were chosen to compete in two categories, split between their cake battle experience. Teams from Bulacan State University - San Jose Del Monte, Gabriel Taborin College of Davao Foundation, Inc., Lyceum of the Philippines - Laguna, University of Cebu, and the Western Institute of Technology competed in finals for the Novice Category. Bulacan State University - Malolos, Holy Cross of Davao College, Lyceum of the Philippines - Laguna, St. Anne College of Lucena, and the Western Institute of Technology made up the teams who competed in the Advanced Category finals.

The finalists and audience of this year’s Cake Battle finals had the chance to rub elbows with and meet Goldilocks’ celebrity endorser, Liza Soberano. The country’s top cake decorators, Heny Sison, Jackie Ang Po, and Penk Ching, all had a hard time judging the competition because of the high-level skill and artistry displayed during the competition, but ultimately Lyceum of the Philippines University Laguna and Western Institute of Technology bagged the championship.

Goldilocks Brings Cake Decorating to Center Stage

Reach for your frosting spatulas and hold on to your piping tubes, because this March, Goldilocks’s Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge (ICDC) is whipping up a storm. In a field of the culinary arts that requires creativity, imagination, and a steady, delicate touch, which of our country’s future pastry masters has the ability to — as they say —take the cake?

In just a few weeks’ time, the best culinary students from all over the country will be going head to head in a live cake decorating competition held by Goldilocks, the country’s number one bakeshop. This is the 9th ICDC since 2006, and this year Goldilocks is turning up the heat in the kitchen. To separate the wheat from the chaff, these teams of cake decorating competitors will be given a theme to build their masterpieces around — and a time limit within which to create them on the spot, to keep things interesting. “The nature of this exciting mechanic will ensure that only the best of these young hopefuls with the skills to excel under pressure will emerge victorious,” noted Goldilocks Marketing Director Cherry Caluya. “The learning curve has progressed steadily each year, and I can’t wait to see the brilliant creations that the students have in store for the judges this time,” she further added.

The team whose cake towers above the rest for its sheer creative and aesthetic genius will take home a Baking Showcase worth P250,000 for their school and P20,000 worth of Goldilocks gift certificates for their own use, as well as the honor of being the best amateur cake decorators in the country. “Apart from a strong sense of school pride, winning the ICDC is a testament to hard work and diligence. In a manner of speaking, the trophy is simply the icing on top of the cake,” Caluya enthused.

Spectators who wish to witness this contest of cake mastery and culinary ingenuity in the Main Mall of SM Mall of Asia can also indulge in a bit of cake-based creativity themselves. Goldilocks will be holding a Cake Decorating Workshop and a Cake Decorating Booth in the area, as well as an exhibit of the past winning ICDC entries.

The 9th Goldilocks Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge will be held on March 7 at the SM Mall of Asia, from 10AM to 6PM. It is co-sponsored by Rich’s Products and Avoset Pour N Whip Cream, the premier choice for pastry toppings

Goldilocks capped off a six-month feeding program for Caritas kids

THE SWEET SMILES OF CARITAS KIDS

In the spirit of mercy and compassion brought about by the historic visit of Pope Francis, Goldilocks Bakeshop, in cooperation with Caritas Manila, capped off a six-month feeding program for underprivileged kids with a small celebration. The culminating activity was conducted at the gym of the St. John Bosco Parish-Tondo, which coincided with the commemoration of the saint’s 200th birth anniversary.

Under the guidance of Caritas Manila, risk areas for malnutrition were identified, taking into consideration various effects including poor academic performance and associated health concerns. Aside from providing balanced meals, Goldilocks likewise monitored the progress of the participating children via weekly check-ups. “We made a determined effort to get the kids back on track in terms of their ideal age-to-weight ratio,” shared Cherry Caluya, Marketing Director of Goldilocks. “After six months, we were so happy to learn that all the participating kids achieved their marks,” she enthused.

As a welcome treat to mark the program’s conclusion, Goldilocks distributed their signature products (mamons, ensaymadas, and muffins) to the delight of those who participated. Joining the 500 kids were a number of senior citizens, who likewise appreciated the baked goods.“Programs like these are an integral part of who we are as a brand,” Caluya noted. “We are so honored to be given opportunities to share the love and happiness that Goldilocks brings,” she concluded
