Healthy Kitchen with Ms.Lia Sevilla Bernardo at Mango Tree Restaurant

I decided to get healthy 15 years ago when I had a hard time climbing up stairs from my field of work, my knees always cracked up when I walk, and I always had difficulty of breathing during that time. I weighed 140lbs for my 5'2 frame during those years. Yes, I was overweight and my Ortho doctor told me to get a healthy lifestyle  and eat sensibly. I remember running every Sunday and enrolled myself to an aerobic class.

I changed my diet, from meat to no pork and added a lot of fruits in the morning and munched on almonds when I am hungry in between.  I cut on sodas and iced  teas, I always make it a point to drink up 8 glasses of water a day.  I lost 30 lbs in a span of 2 years, and maintain my weight at 115lbs. It wasnt easy at first but my health got better, my BP became stable and I learned to love the food that has been on the table for almost a decade. It takes a lot of discipline but it pays off until this time.

Anything that has concern healthy eating , juicing, green teas, herbs and fruits fascinate me to no end. I recently got an invite from the Mango Tree restaurant for a Healthy Kitchen talk about healthy mindful eating in cooperation with the expertise of personal growth and integrative health consultant, Ms. Lia Sevilla-Bernardo.

The insightful workshop, which was attended by media, digital influencers and food industry personalities, tackled how to incorporate local super foods into one’s diet so that eating healthy does not have to be challenging and expensive. It also covered the advantages of using certain vegetables, fruits and herbs for one’s healing and total wellness; how to shop for healthy food; and prepare body-loving dishes at home.

Ms. Bernardo likewise explained how unhealthy food currently makes up for 50-70% of the average person’s diet and that with proper discipline and intake, one would never have to go on fad diets trends again.

The event was supplemented with an explanation of the healing effects and medicinal benefits of select herbs and popular recipe ingredients, and a well thought of menu by Mango Tree. The said menu consisted of colorful and appetizing dishes such as Som Tum Thai, spicy fresh green papaya salad with cherry tomatoes, snake beans, peanuts and dried shrimps; the Yum Ma Khua Phao Song Goong, grilled eggplant salad with shrimp; Phad Pak Bung Fai Daeng or stir-fried morning glory with garlic, fresh chilies and oy bean sauce; and the Kai Jiew Hom or Thai omelette, among others.

Indeed, mindful and conscious eating instantly creates a happy, healthy, vibrant and thriving body and life in general, and this is all possible by proper food intake. Knowledge is the first step and Mango Tree’s workshop was a superb introduction to starting one’s healthy kitchen lifestyle!

Mango Tree is open from 11am to 3pm and 5:30 to 11:30pm daily. It is located at 7th Ave. Bonifacio High Street Central, Bonifacio Global City. For reservations, please contact 621.3233.

DISNEY'S “MOANA” FINDS HER VOICE

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Moana” has found her voice following a worldwide search to cast the film’s title character. Native Hawaiian newcomer Auli’i Cravalho, 14, joins Dwayne Johnson in the big-screen adventure about a spirited and fearless teenager named Moana (voice of Cravalho) who, with help from demi-god Maui (voice of Johnson), sets out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder.

While hundreds of talented people from across the Pacific Islands were eager to try out for the role, Cravalho set her sights firmly on her sophomore year of high school. “I didn’t think I would have a chance,” she said. “When I was little, I used to dance around the house singing at the top of my lungs. In my mind, that was performing and I loved the feeling of it. But I never imagined being in a Disney movie, being Moana—representing my culture in that way.”

Fortunately, the film’s Hawai’i casting director remembered an unrelated audition Cravalho did as part of an a cappella group, which had been submitted for a talent showcase for a charity. Feeling the local teen would be perfect for the Disney role, she tracked her and her mother down and invited Cravalho to audition. “Her audition was fantastic – she was such a raw talent,” said producer Osnat Shurer. “Auli’i was among a small number of girls we brought back for a second round of auditions. Then we flew her and her mom over to audition at our studios in Burbank.”

“Auli’i demonstrated a certain fearlessness in her auditions and call-backs,” said director John Musker. “She has a playful, mischievous wit. She can project vulnerability, she doesn’t seem intimidated at all by the challenges ahead, and her Polynesian background has helped shape her connection to family, hard work and music. These are all qualities she shares with Moana.”
“Moana is a vibrant, tenacious 16-year-old growing up on an island where voyaging is forbidden,” added director Ron Clements. “But Moana has been drawn to the ocean since she can remember and is desperate to find out what’s beyond the confines of her island.”

Cravalho has already started recording for the role.

Opening across the Philippines on Nov. 30, 2016, “Moana” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures. Pizza Hut & Taco Bell Philippines fight hunger with the United Nations-World Food Programme (UN-WFP)

As part of its continued commitment to help fight hunger among Filipino children, Yum! Brands’ Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, together with the United Nations-World Food Programme (UN-WFP), recently visited conflict-affected communities in Lanao to observe the WFP’s ongoing feeding programme for schoolchildren.

The school-based feeding programme, which benefits thousands of children in conflict-affected Central Mindanao, is part of the annual World Hunger Relief Programme (WHRP), a campaign touted as the world’s largest private sector hunger relief effort to raise awareness, volunteerism and funds to benefit WFP.  Established in 2007, the WHR is primarily focused on engaging Yum! Brands’ associates, franchisees and consumers in over 41,000 restaurants around the globe to end world hunger by contributing money to help feed beneficiaries of the WFP.

“We’ve been a supporter of the World Food Programme since 2008, and we continue to support it by raising awareness about food and nutrition security among our customers and employees,” shared Teck Huack “TH” Lim, Chief Operating Officer of Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.  “In the Philippines, we have over 5,000 employees and by engaging them to be part of WHRP, we can make a huge contribution in alleviating hunger especially among children, while encouraging our employees to grow into socially responsible members of their community,” he added.
“We would like to thank Yum! Brands Pizza Hut and Taco Bell Philippines for their unrelenting support throughout the years,” said Martin Bettelley, Deputy Country Director of WFP Philippines.  “Through their initiative, we get to provide nutritious meals to schoolchildren in Central Mindanao who need them the most.  In time, we can all achieve our goal to end world hunger.”

TH Lim and Martin Bettelley led in the recent distribution of nutritious meals and loot bags were recently distributed to 900 children from Denaig Elementary School in Poona Piagao, Lanao Del Norte, and Pindulonan Elementary School in Piagapo, Lanao del Sur.  Joining them were representatives from the Department of Education and local government units.

The World Hunger Relief 2015 campaign to raise funds for school meals in conflict-affected Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Maguindanao will start in November across all Pizza Hut and Taco Bell outlets in the Philippines. This year, Philippine Pizza Inc aims to sell tokens in exchange for donations, which cover coin banks and loose change.

Yum! Brands’ Pizza Hut and Taco Bell Philippines began their World Hunger Relief campaign in 2008, and have since raised over PhP25 million to help feed Filipino schoolchildren through WFP. This campaign is one of the largest private sector hunger relief initiatives spanning more than 125 countries and territories.

WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.  Each year, it assists more than 80 million people in around 80 countries.

Experience the view from "The Walk" on Oct 14!

Twelve people have walked on the moon.  Only one has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers.

Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), guided by his real-life mentor, Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), is aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, who overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan.  Robert Zemeckis, the master director of such marvels as Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Back to the Future, Polar Express and Flight, again uses cutting edge technology in the service of an emotional, character-driven story.  With innovative photorealistic techniques and IMAX 3D wizardry, The Walk is genuine big-screen cinema, a chance for moviegoers to viscerally experience the feeling of reaching the clouds.

It is also one of the rare live-action films that is a PG-rated, all-audience entertainment for moviegoers 8 to 80 – and a triumphant true story to boot.  It is unlike anything audiences have seen before, a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the towers of the World Trade Center.

TriStar Pictures presents in association with LStar Capital, an ImageMovers production, The Walk.  Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Kingsley, Charlotte Le Bon, James Badge Dale.  Directed by Robert Zemeckis.  Produced by Steve Starkey, Robert Zemeckis, and Jack Rapke.  The Screenplay is by Robert Zemeckis & Christopher Browne, based on the book “To Reach the Clouds” by Philippe Petit.  Executive Producers are Cherylanne Martin, Jacqueline Levine, and Ben Waisbren.  The Director of Photography is Dariusz Wolski, ASC.  The Production Designer is Naomi Shohan.  Edited by Jeremiah O’Driscoll.  The Costume Designer is Suttirat Larlarb.  The Visual Effects Supervisor is Kevin Baillie.  Music by Alan Silvestri.

An impossible, but true story, the new film from Robert Zemeckis, The Walk is a live-action, PG-rated entertainment for all audiences, ages 8 to 80.  A love letter to the World Trade Center, the film is a 3D and IMAX visual experience, unlike anything audiences have seen.

THE WALK opens in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D and 2D cinemas across the Philippines on Oct. 14.

Full Cast Announced for The Bridges of Madison County

Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group (ATEG) is proud to announce the full cast for the first international production of the Tony Award winning musical THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, which runs from November 20 - December 6 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati.

Fresh from the success of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, which recently concluded the first leg of its Asian Tour,  ATEG brings you THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, one of the most romantic stories ever written. Now an irresistible, two-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, based on the best-selling novel by Robert James Waller, THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY tells the story of Iowa housewife Francesca Johnson and her life-changing, four-day whirlwind romance with traveling photographer Robert Kincaid. It’s an unforgettable story of two people caught between decision and desire, as a chance encounter becomes a second chance at so much more.

This brand new production features gorgeous, soulful music by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years) that draws upon the rich textures of Americana and folk and the sweeping, expressive balladry of classic Broadway. The Daily News hails it as “one of Broadway’s best scores in the last decade.”

Leading the cast as Francesca and Robert are two iconic performers of the international musical theatre stage, Joanna Ampil and MiG Ayesa.

Joanna Ampil, who rose to stardom in London’s West End as Kim in Miss Saigon, Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar and Christmas Eve in Avenue Q, says of her latest role, “It will be my first musical in Manila after a long hiatus. The last one was The Sound of Music in 2012. I'm hungry for a new challenge and this role of Francesca will certainly give me that challenge, stretch and creativity that I'm always craving for as an artist.  Jason Robert Brown and I performed in London sometime ago way before he wrote Bridges and to be able to play a lead in one of his works will be a wonderful experience; because I know that he writes some amazing stuff. I look forward to sharing the stage with MiG Ayesa, also. But, the thing that appealed to me the most was the idea of working for ATLANTIS for the first time and being directed by Bobby Garcia.”

MiG Ayesa, who performed the role of Stacee Jaxx in ROCK OF AGES on Broadway and in Manila, says, “I am so thrilled to be returning to the Manila stage with this production of THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY. The score written by Jason Robert Brown is so breathtakingly beautiful it has to be considered a modern classic, and well deserved of the Tony Awards it received. I cannot wait to show such a different side to me, as the last time Manila audiences saw me was as the crazed rocker ‘Stacee Jaxx’ in ROCK OF AGES. The chance to be working opposite such a world class performer such as Jo Ampil, as well as under the direction of Bobby Garcia, promises to be an experience I will never forget. This will be my second stage production with ATEG, and it has always been a labour of love in that camp. Any excuse to visit the Philippines is worth the work! I cannot think of a better way than to return with such a production as beautiful as this.”

Bobby Garcia, who directs the musical, says. “I am thrilled to have two of the finest musical theatre performers breathe vibrant life into these iconic characters. Joanna and MiG will be unforgettable as Francesca and Robert. Jason Robert Brown’s score for BRIDGES is one of the most glorious musical theatre scores in recent memory. It is an honor to be able to stage this show for Manila audiences”

Also in the cast are Carla Guevara-Laforteza in the dual role of Marian and Chiara, Nino Alejandro as Bud, Emeline Celis-Guinid as Marge, Jamie Wilson as Charile, Bibo Reyes as Michael and Mikkie Bradshaw as Caroline.  Joining them in the ensemble are Steven Conde, Nel Gomez, Franz Imperial, Yanah Laurel, Abi Sulit and Teetin Villanueva.

THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY is directed by Bobby Garcia, Choreography by Cecile Martinez, Musical Direction by Ceejay Javier, Set Design by Faust Peneyra, Lighting Design by JonJon Villareal, Costume Design by Eric Pineda, Hair and Make Up Design by Johann dela Fuente and Vocal Direction by ManMan Angsico.

Get your tickets now for what is destined to be the most romantic musical of the year! Tickets for THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY are available at Ticketworld at 891-9999.

KakaoTalk Launches Open Chat

KakaoPhilippines Corp. has announced the launch of Open Chat, aKakao Talk feature that allows users to chat with others at the click of a link. All chat rooms in Open Chathave designated URLs, which users can share on social media and other websites. Any KakaoTalk user can enter the chat room without providing their mobile phone numbers or KakaoTalk IDs. Group chats are then easier to start because users who have the link can join the conversation; no need to add people one by one.

Human relationships offline are not equal. There are mutual friends whom users are comfortable sharing their mobile numbers or profiles with, and then there are complete strangers. Kakao provides a middle level of interaction with this new feature. Open Chat connects users through links; as opposed to regular chats, which require the exchange of phone numbers. Open Chat allows users to have more control over their friends list and gives them a secure alternative: to chat with whomever they need without having to divulge personal information.

KakaoTalk users have continuously requested for “easier and more convenient ways to chat with new friends” and “ways to limit or control who [they] reveal [their] profiles to.” Open Chat wasintroduced to address these issues.

The new feature is intended for those who are seeking fast and convenient ways of communication. People with the same interests can also converse with each other on Open Chat through links posted on social media and other websites. Students, in particular, can use it forgroup work in classes, extracurricular activities, study sessions, and more. They can also share an Open Chat linkat online marketplaces instead of exposing personal information, such as phone numbers and IDs, when selling or purchasing second-hand items.

Open Chat can also serve as an interactive comment section for news providers, bloggers, and readers to discuss an article or blog entry without giving out personal details. News providers and bloggers only need to add an Open Chat link at the end of the post.

Open Chats can be createdby pressing on the floating ‘+’ button on the Chats tab and selecting ‘Open Chat.’The host can then input his or her chat identity and set up a chat room. The host can choose a type of chat (1:1 chat or group chat), select a background photo, and simply press ‘OK.’ The Open Chat link will then be live and ready to go.

Open Chat can accommodate up to 500 users in a single chat room. The chat room’s host can designate the maximum number of users that can participate in any given Open Chat.

Open Chat makes it easy to begin conversations with people who are not on each other’s KakaoTalkfriends lists. It also alleviates users’ concerns about exposing their personal details on messenger services,” explained Paolo Pineda, CEO of Kakao Philippines Corp. "The real value of this feature is that it provides our users with privacy and control over their friends list, while connecting with other people."

KakaoTalk’s Open Chat feature will be available to Filipino users starting October 11th, on both iOS and Android. Users can also enjoy KakaoTalk’s other features like Secret Group Chat and Star Chat. For more information, please visit facebook.com/kakaotalkph.

Keanu Reeves stars in sexy thriller "Knock Knock"

Keanu Reeves stars in his latest sexy thrilling starrer in “Knock Knock” as a blissfully married man with two children who was lured by two very attractive women (played by Lorenza Izzo and  Ana de Armas) when they came knocking at his door when he was left alone at home.

Directed and written by Eli Roth known for his critically acclaimed and phenomenal works in thriller and horror genre such as “Cabin Fever” that went on to be Lionsgate’s highest grossing film on the year that it was released and the worldwide hit “Hostel,” “Knock Knock” is an erotic thriller that toys on the idea of trouble coming into one’s own home and unleashes Pandora’s box.

“With Knock Knock, I wanted to show just how fragile the world we spend a lifetime building actually is. What if you did everything right – you went to a good school, you dated nice people until you met the right person, you settled down, you built a good life for yourself…and still, you have the sinking feeling you’re missing out on something. What if you wanted to tempt fate just for one night thinking you could get away with it? I wanted the audience to sympathize with Evan, our main character, and to secretly make the same choices he would make. Evan tries to do the right thing, and yet, he can’t ever truly say no to these girls who show up at his door and seduce him. Evan constantly thinks he’s in control, and that’s his fatal flaw. People in their 40’s have no idea the damage one can cause with social media, because they’ve never had to think defensively in that way. Teenagers today have grown up with the threat of someone ruining your life over a picture or a text message, so as a result they know how to destroy someone. It’s a skill you have to develop as a teenager today, but it’s not one that would even be in a character like Evan’s consciousness,” explains Roth of the movie’s premise.

One of Hollywood’s most sought after leading men, Keanu Reeves currently has a box office draw of over $3.6 billion worldwide. Keanu recently completed production on four films, including the courtroom drama “The Whole Truth” starring opposite Renée Zellweger, “Daughter of God,” “The Neon Demon” and “The Bad Batch.”

Best known worldwide as Neo in the phenomenal “The Matrix” trilogy, Reeves’ long list of blockbuster hits also include “47 Ronin,” “Man of Tai Chi,” “John Wick,” “Speed,” “The Day The Earth Stood Still,” “Street Kings,” “The Lake House,” “Constantine,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” “Hardball,” “The Gift,” The Replacements,” “Sweet November,” “A Walk In The Clouds,” “Devil’s Advocate,” “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” and “Point Break.”

Described by Eli Roth as ‘Fatal Attraction’ in the age of social media, “Knock Knock” opens this October 21 in theatres nationwide from OCtoArts Films International.

A New Kind of Camouflage for Veloci

Camouflage rules the Paris runway from famous designers Maison Margiela, Balenciaga and Christian Dior for the Fall 2015 collection. It was highlighted by a selection of body suits and skin-tight, long sleeve, mid-length dresses in pale new camo pattern.

Thus, Veloci, the Italian inspired timepieces comes up with the fierce arm candies that would accessorize your everyday wear from work to play. I like that it comes big with colors to choose from. Yes its a chrono, stylish, chunky watch that could dress up your attire.

The Veloci Holiday Collection comes just in time showcasing the definitive botanic camouflage print, reworked in brighter colors and bolder designs last Sept 23 at 100 Miles Cafe, BGC.

The event was geared up military style and the guests came in their best camo get up. The Veloci Holiday Collection launch was highlighted by military activities (games) that challenged the skills of the bloggers. It was like a battlefield outsmarting each other using our brawn and brains.

After the game, we were treated to a boodle feast, it was fun and challenging to eat just using our bare hands. Everyone was game enough to finish their dinner.

The Veloci Holiday Collection comes in two styles. Taking design inspiration from their bestselling Pulse, the Camo contains the same power-packed features: with a dual-time display, stopwatch and alarm, illuminator, and water resist of up to 100 meters. Folks on the go can sport this watch to wherever their next getaway may be.

For the more adventurous ones, the Camo Active bears the features of the Pulse with a different look. This watch has a stainless steel top ring, inner ring, and 200-meter water resist. A mineral glass cover renders it anti-shock. Perfect for extreme sports enthusiasts with a penchant for minimal accessorizing and maximum impact.

In terms of color choices, the classic army green is imbued with flecks of black and orange to give it a nice color contrast. Rise up the fashion ranks with the VelociCamo’s other colors: rogue red, cadet gray and infantry blue.

This is what makes the camouflage such a timeless print. It works well in sprucing up with nearly any outfit—be it in school, at the office, by the pool, on a date,or even just when you dress to express. Take your pick from the collection’s several camo combinations for a look that stands out.

The launch of this collection could not come at a better time. As everybody gears up for the holidays, these watches would be a sensible style staple for accessorizing the looks we are bound to see this season. Camouflage prints add edge to minimalist and somber fall outfits, while grounding a sparkly party ensemble with a street-style vibe. Fashionable and functional, the Camo is another versatile Veloci timepiece you can wear from work to play.
