#SportsforEveryJuan: Decathlon opens its first “City” concept store at the SM North EDSA

Decathlon, the world’s largest sports retailer, opened its first “City” concept store at the SM North EDSA last November 26, 2021.

The first time I heard about Decathlon was when I accompanied my partner to buy some warmers, leggings  and winter shoes in Pasig for his London trip.  That was when I discovered some affordable fitness and gym shirts for me too.

When we were abroad, we would eventually looking for a Decathlon and would hoard gloves, leggings and shorts too.

That's why I was happy to learn that Decathlon has opened  in SM North Edsa, who would not be if youre a sports enthusiast like me and our place is near the SM North Edsa.

Located at Level 2 North Towers Building, the new branch brings the number of Decathlon branches to four with another one scheduled to open at the SM Mall of Asia. Quezon City Vice Mayor Gian Sotto, a sports enthusiast himself, joined the opening ceremonies to formally open the new store.

The story of Decathlon in the Philippines unfolded in 2017 offering over 70 sports under one roof through its first store in Alabang, Muntinlupa. This was followed by Decathlon Pasig at the Tiendesitas Shopping Centre and Decathlon Masinag located at Marcos Highway, Antipolo.Further expansion is planned as multiple stores are expected in the next two years.

Earlier this year, Decathlon announced its partnership with  the largest mall developer--SM Supermalls to build more hubs for multisport lovers within Metro Manila.

“We want Decathlon to become one of the most loved brands in the Philippines. Thanks to the innovation and unbeatable value of our passion brands, we continue to deliver the best quality and safety to guarantee customer satisfaction,” Decathlon Philippines CEO Hans Iff said in an interview.

As more Filipinos become more concious about becoming fit and living healthy lifestyles, the fresher and more digital “City” concept gives them access to over 5,000 products for over 70 sports. The brand also  promises to make multiple sports accessible through digital and omni-channel features as well as faster shopping through self-checkout and RFID technology. Bundled with these digital solutions will be classic Decathlon services like click and collect, free membership and free product testing.

The Decathlon motto of #SportsForEveryJuan comes alive even within the confines of these smaller “city” concept stores but you’ll still find a wide selection of affordable sportswear, shoes, equipment, and gear for over 70 sports—that’s actually more sports than you probably enumerate on top of your head--making it the most complete stores you can ever find.

To make sport accessible for everyjuan, their products are actually available to test and try, so you can get a feel for something before deciding to buy it at a price most can afford.  As soon as you enter the store you will see tents pitched like a campsite so you could get inside and feel how spacious it is. There are racks of sports wear for gym, yoga and every other sports, there are even bicycle lanes so kids can try out the bikes or rollerskates.

Speaking of cycling, the store has a varied selection of bikes for hardcore, endurance, off-track, recreational, or beginner--as well as smaller bikes for your children.

The physical stores are interactive, and best for those who want to tryout the sizes or learn more about the sport from their very well informed staff. If some sizes or products are not available you can simply head over to their online store and arrange for either pickup or delivery of the merchandise.

If you are new  or just starting to get interested in a sport, the Decathlon staff are more than ready to assist as they too are often enthusiasts of the sports they represent. So instead of just someone assigned to sell a product, the staff can offer advice about the sport itself as they have real knowledge and experience of what he/she is offering to you.

Physiogel’s chit-chat with Dr. Coreen tells us that an effective skincare routine starts with knowing the difference between fact and fiction

We’ve all got goals when it comes to our skin. Whether you want to avoid breakouts, fight irritation, or keep it blemish-free, we all have unique skincare needs — and managing them can be pretty complicated. With a myriad of trendy skincare products hitting the shelves and run-off-the-mill skincare hacks from Dr. Internet, it’s not always easy to figure out what really works and what doesn’t.

The best thing you can do? Go straight to the experts. In celebration of National Healthy Skin Month, Physiogel invited board-certified dermatologist Dr. Coreen Sampedro during its SIS Session on FB Live last November 20, helping us demystify skincare with professional advice.

Armed with experience and backed by science, Dr. Coreen set the record straight on typical beauty and skincare myths to better guide us in our routines. Here’s the truth about these myths:

Moisturizers can cause acne.

False, but somewhat true. Moisturizing your skin is a must, but excessive application may cause acne. The extra product just sits on top of your face, which attracts dirt and bacteria. To help avoid breakouts when moisturizing, Dr. Coreen recommends putting on a fast-absorbing product in just the right amount.

Babies don’t need sun protection or moisturization.

False. Babies have super delicate skin that needs protection from UV rays. Babies, especially those 6 months and below, don’t need an elaborate skincare routine, so Dr. Coreen says the best thing that you can do is to use sun-protective methods, like avoiding direct sun exposure and dressing them in protective clothing. To keep their skin moisturized, she also recommends using mild, hydrating cleansers that’ll keep it smooth, soft, and safe from irritants.

Oily skin doesn’t need moisturizers.

False, but it depends. Dr. Coreen emphasized that just because the surface of your skin is oily doesn’t mean your skin cells are not dehydrated. This is what moisturizers address – they hydrate your skin cells, keeping them strong on the inside, and soft outside. The secret is picking a good moisturizer that works with your skin. Your best choice should be a light, fast-absorbing moisturizer without preservatives, fragrances, colorants, ceramides, and other nasties that might do your skin more harm than good!

Guilty of believing in these misconceptions? Physiogel’s chit-chat with Dr. Coreen tells us that an effective skincare routine starts with knowing the difference between fact and fiction. With tried-and-true advice from experts, you’ll never go wrong in achieving the healthy skin you want! The same goes for picking products that can do the job for your skin type. Address your needs with expert-recommended products in your regimen, such as the Physiogel Daily Moisture Therapy range. The Dermo-Cleanser, Body Lotion, and Cream are all powered by Biomimic Technology, a science that mimics and restores lipids naturally found in skin to keep it soft but strong. This way, you can always take care of your skin’s health this National Healthy Skin Month and beyond!

Loved discovering the truth about skincare with Dr. Coreen? Stay tuned for more enlightening and empowering SIS Sessions on Physiogel’s Facebook Page!

Physiogel is available at Mercury Drug, Watsons, South Star Drug, Rose Pharmacy, BeautyMNL, and Physiogel Official Stores at Lazada and Shopee.

One True Pair The Movie is only the first of many other Jollibee Studios exclusive and original content that stars box office celebrities

Many people are looking for the one and a love that lasts and while many have been fortunate to find it and keep it, many are still searching for that person, or what the one means to them. In Jollibee Studios’ newest 30-minute film, it discusses what makes a love that lasts in a poignant and heart-tugging story that brings together the country’s most iconic love team, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.

The pair’s much awaited on-screen reunion definitely brought a lot of excitement among long-time fans. The anticipation and joy from the public was truly felt back in October when leaked photos from their shoot came out. When it was revealed that it was for a Jollibee project, this excited people further, as Jollibee has been known to produce memorable short films that never fails to bring joy and touch one’s heart.

“At Jollibee, we have told so many stories about love and its different kinds. Now, we are looking at a love that goes beyond romance--a love that’s unflinching and a love that lasts,” said Francis E. Flores, Jollibee Foods Corporation Philippines Country/Regional Marketing Head and Jollibee Philippines Marketing Head. “With One True Pair The Movie, we wanted to deliver that powerful message of how some pairs are perfect because their love is one that goes beyond romance. And what better way to do that than having John Lloyd and Bea star in the film. In fact, we wanted this film to be very meaningful, not just to the fans but to John Lloyd and Bea as well. So, during the development process, we made sure that they could share their personal insights and creative input about the story.”

The celebrity pair themselves have also expressed how pleased they are to be working together again after such a long time, especially when they found out that the project with Jollibee won’t just be a regular fast-food commercial, the usual romcoms, or follow the typical Pinoy drama plot.

In one of John Lloyd’s social media posts he said that, Excited ako ibahagi sainyo ang #JollibeeOneTruePairMovie dahil isa to sa mga projects kung san nabigyan rin ako ng pagkakataon to share my thoughts and ideas”.

It didn’t even feel like a shoot; it felt like I was hanging out with an old friend, so easy and comforting. Ganun siguro talaga kapag matagal mo nang nakasama, kahit lumipas pa ang panahon, may mga bagay talagang masarap balikan,” Bea Alonzo also said in her Instagram page.

Also true to Jollibee-produced films, One True Pair The Movie is directed by multi-awarded director, JP Habac. “I was very happy to take on this Jollibee project about a different kind of love. When we talk about love, it’s always about either finding the right person and spending the rest of their lives with them. But in reality, love is such a complicated emotion with so many facets. People can also love a person with all their heart without being romantically in love with them,” said direk JP. “With Jollibee Studios’ One True Pair The Movie, we wanted to talk about the powerful truth of loving someone means loving them always.”

Catch One True Pair The Movie in the Jollibee Studios YouTube channel which will be streaming on December 1.

SM Supermalls joined the government’s endeavor to inoculate 9 million Filipinos nationwide

In its bid to further ramp up the COVID-19 vaccination rollout in the Philippines, SM Supermalls joined the government’s endeavor to inoculate 9 million Filipinos nationwide, starting November 29 until December 1.

Dubbed Bayanihan Bakunahan, the three-day vaccination drive’s ceremonial launch at SM City Masinag was attended by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte; Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., National Task Force against Coronavirus Disease-2019 (NTF COVID-19) chief implementer; Health Secretary Francisco Duque III; Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go, Chair, Senate Committee on Health and Demography;

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzena; Rizal Governor Rebecca "Nini" Ynares; SM Supermalls President Steven T. Tan; members of the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force; Cabinet Secretaries; and partners from the private and public sectors.

Bayanihan Bakunahan is a collaborative effort of the government, led by the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), in cooperation with the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19, together with various communities and private organizations.

"This multi-sectoral event is a resounding expression of our Bayanihan spirit, which coincides with the nation’s observance of Bonifacio Day on November 30. The heroic example of Gat Andres Bonifacio’s courage resonates in each of us as we work together to fast-track and intensify our efforts to overcome this pandemic," said President Duterte in a speech.

Bayanihan Bakunahan was rolled out nationwide to increase the country's coverage of the first dose to 70% as well as to increase the booster jabs across 16 regions outside Metro Manila. The second wave of the vaccination drive was slated on December 15 to 17.

"The concept of Bayanihan Bakunahan is that you and I, we're both heroes. And we can be heroes if we vaccinate ourselves against COVID-19, not only for ourselves and our families but also for the people around us," said Ma. Florinda Princess E. Duque,  Director IV, Bureau of Communications Services.

During the event, the government mentioned that the Philippines is expecting to vaccinate 54M Filipinos by the end of the year including 80% of minors aged 12 to 17 years old. President Duterte also said that the government seeks to complete booster shots of fully-vaccinated seniors, health workers and people with comorbidities by the end of 2021. As of November, over 35 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the government has also assured that there’s enough supply for the three-day vaccination drive. “It is safe to say that we have enough COVID-19 vaccine doses for the National Vaccination Days. The national government is continuously working with the local government in terms of vaccine supply. Also, preparations have been done beforehand so that we can reach our goal of inoculating 3 million individuals per day," said Communications Director Duque.

Under the collaboration, SM Supermalls, along with over 8,000 vaccination sites, will be opened to accommodate the target population. To date, SM Supermalls has already administered 6 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines in over 71 malls around the country, of that number 200,000 are children aged 12 to 17 years old inoculated at 45 malls.

“We at SM Supermalls have always believed that getting vaccinated is the best defense Filipinos have against the COVID-19 virus. In the past months of working together with the government, we have achieved great things. We thank the government for the opportunity to serve the country and our fellow Filipinos as we open more convenient and accessible mall vaccination sites nationwide,” said Steven Tan, President of SM Supermalls.

Apart from opening 66 mall vaccination sites, SM Supermalls also announced the participation of the National University in this endeavor. Over 500 alumni, employees, and students from the said university have registered to volunteer during the Bayanihan Bakunahan.

During the three-day Bayanihan Bakunahan event, Filipinos can walk in and register at the identified sites. For adults who want to get vaccinated, they are required to bring a government-issued ID and a medical certificate for those who have comorbidities. Pregnant and lactating mothers are also encouraged to get immunization shots.

For kids aged 12 to 17 years old, the parent/guardian should secure the following: any valid ID of the parent/guardian as well as a birth certificate, baptismal, or passport of the child. For children with health risks, parents/guardians are advised to get a medical certificate from their child’s attending pediatrician or physician showing that the child is eligible for vaccination. If both parents are not available during the vaccination day, an authorization letter signed by parents indicating the name of the assigned guardian with a valid ID will be needed.

And for those who have been vaccinated, booster shots will only be administered to those who had their 2nd dose for at least 6 months. Individuals who will avail of the booster shot should present a copy of their vaccination card. Apart from that, vaccinated individuals are also encouraged to volunteer in their respective LGUs and to rally behind the government to be vaccine advocates in their communities.

“Let us be heroes in this fight against COVID-19. Get vaccinated, volunteer, and encourage your families, friends, workplaces, and communities to get jabbed. Let us all strive to make this Christmas safer and better for the people we value most. Because it is only through our collective will to put an end to this crisis will we be able to build back better for a brighter future,” Tan closed.

Digital transactions are here to stay and fintechs like PayMaya are making it easier to go cashless. The country's leading digital financial services platform is the only fintech in the Philippines that runs a consumer e-wallet app, an enterprise payment processing business, and a remittance agent network with Smart Padala.

While its consumer app may not be the no. 1 e-wallet right now, its superior features make it #TooGoodToBeNo.2. If you haven’t tried out using the PayMaya app yet, you're definitely missing out on some of its surprisingly better features that could make your everyday transactions a whole lot easier.

From its free cash in channels to 99.9% uptime, you'll be surprised at how these nifty features can bring ease, convenience, and even savings whenever you go cashless.

Most number of FREE cash in channels

To start, PayMaya offers FREE cash in at 90,000, out of its over 110,000 cash in touchpoints nationwide. Going cashless is supposed to make your essential transactions more convenient and this is exactly why PayMaya is aiming to remove this barrier. Compared to other e-wallet apps, you don’t have to worry about having to pay up to P200 in cash in fees just to put funds in your e-wallet account.

Cashing in for free is easy too! However you want to cash in to your PayMaya account, there will always be a FREE way to do it – whether it’s at the sari-sari store with Smart Padala in your street, at your go-to convenience stores like MiniStop, or Supermarket like Robinsons Supermarket, or through online transfers from your bank account via Instapay or via a linked BPI, RCBC, or Unionbank account.

Apart from cashing in for free, sending money to other PayMaya account users is also free - and when you transfer funds from PayMaya to a bank account via Instapay, you can earn a cashback of P15 to cover your fee until the end of the year! To get a full list of PayMaya’s free cash in channels, simply tap the ‘cash in’ button on your app’s homepage, and check out the icons with the ‘no fees’ sticker.
