Christian Bables bags the Bright Star Award in 2019 Asian Pop-Up Cinema

I remember my interview with Christian last year. He was teary eyed because his lolo had just passed away, and Christian was feeling guilty that he wasn’t beside him during his last hours. He was in mourning then and you could feel the sadness.  Fast forward to today, I saw a different Christian. He was beaming, proud and happy holding a trophy to his name.

One of the brilliant young actors of his generation, Christian Bables breathes life into every character he portrays. Christian enjoys being an actor because he can express himself, touch other people’s lives, and execute his passion.

Christian always takes his work seriously and values the importance of training and preparation. He remains focus on his craft as an actor that is why blessings continuously keep pouring in for him. He says, “Like what my mentors tell me, acting is a lifestyle of learning. Kahit na sino, kahit hindi actor, ay dapat hindi tumigil sa pag-aaral. Dapat laging bukas na matuto.”

He has proven to all and sundry that he is an award-winning actor to be reckoned with. “Acting is a venue to express myself. I enjoy giving empowerment to every character I portray because through that ako mismo ay nae-empower.”

Christian is in high spirits these days. Fresh from the box-office success of Panti Sisters, Christian is deeply overwhelmed with the outcome of the movie which revolves around the story of three gay siblings whose rich father wants to bequeath his inheritance to a son who can give him a grandchild.

“Nakakatuwa na tinanggap ng Filipino audience and maybe the foreign audience ang pelikula namin. Thank you very much but more than anything else, I am ecstatic because we were able to relay the message of the movie. Likewise, we become proud allies of the LGBT community. Personally, this is my way of giving back because ang laki ng utang na loob ko sa LGBT community. If not for my role as Barbs in Die Beautiful, I wouldn’t be here. Hindi mabubukas ang pintuan ng mga pangarap ko. Ang mapapangako ko ay hindi ako magsasawa at mapapagod na gumawa ng mga makabuluhang istorya para sa LGBT community.”

He just came back from Chicago to personally accept his Bright Star Award in the prestigious 2019 Asian Pop-Up Cinema for his sterling performance in Signal Rock. In the film, Christian plays Intoy, a poor high school dropout who resides in a far-flung fishing island with his family and courageously climbs steep rock formations just to get a cellphone signal. (He won the Best Actor Award at the Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) in Vietnam last year.)

Christian shares his experience attending the event. “They were all nice. The founder is Ms. Sophia Boccio. She was very accommodating. I received a warm welcome from the people in Chicago most especially the Filipino community. Grabe iyong suporta nila sa Signal Rock, sa akin, at sa pagpunta ko. I enjoyed my stay there. It was a heartwarming experience. It is one of my most memorable film festivals.”

He recently won the Best Actor Award at the Urduja Film Festival for his role in Signal Rock which also received the Movie of the Year (Drama) Award. Urduja Film Festival is a yearly competition which promotes student short, feature, and independent films in Northern Luzon.

Despite his achievements, Christian remains humble. How does he handle fame? “For me, being known is just part of the job. Iyong real job for me, ang totoong batayan sa akin ay kung gaano ka kadiligent at kung gaano ka kagutom as an actor. You’re just as good as your last work. So ang pagiging masipag (iyong kaya mong i-assess kung tama ba o hindi ang ginagawa mo) ay ang totoong batayan for me at hindi ang fame.”

Christian is grateful for all the good projects coming his way. Aside from upcoming movies, he is part of a new teleserye in ABS-CBN. “I am thankful to ABS-CBN for giving me such a good and challenging role. Please watch out for my new television series soon.”

The very best of DC Comics’ most fearless femmes are coming together in one epic event on Warner TV this October

First in the lineup is the exclusive Asian premiere of Batwoman, Warner Bros.’ brand-new superhero series, on Monday, October 21, in a triple-bill extravaganza starting from 7:20pm. The third and remaining episodes will be aired the same day as the US at 9pm.

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane – played by Ruby Rose – soars through the shadowed streets of Gotham as Batwoman. But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, she must first overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

The ultimate female warrior, Wonder Woman, is also making her debut on Warner TV on Sunday, October 20 at 9pm. Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) returns as the title character in the epic action-adventure based on the DC Super Hero.

And as a part of a “Fearless Femmes” tribute, Warner TV will air crossover episodes from the Arrowverse from 3pm onwards on October 20. These include the Elsewords specials, which introduce the characters Batwoman and Lois Lane, and also features characters such as Killer Frost, Supergirl, Black Canary and White Canary.

Blink and you’ll miss it! Stay tuned for more of Warner TV’s ‘Fearless Femmes’ on Cignal XX, SkyCable XX, CableBoss XX. And if you’re in Manila, hang out with your own heroes at the third Warner TV Pop Expo on November 17 at Eastwood (Open Park & Central Plaza). It’s the most awesomely geeky (and free) fanfest in the Philippines! Keep an eye on Facebook.com/WTVPopExpo for more details coming soon.

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence. Based on the characters from DC, BATWOMAN stars Ruby Rose (Orange Is the New Black), Rachel Skarsten (Reign, Birds of Prey, Imposters), Meagan Tandy (Survivor's Remorse, Teen Wolf), Nicole Kang (You, The Code, Swallow), Camrus Johnson (The Sun Is Also a Star, Luke Cage), Elizabeth Anweis (9-1-1, The Affair) and Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible).

Kate Kane (Rose) never planned to be Gotham's new vigilante. Three years after Batman mysteriously disappeared, Gotham is a city in despair. Without the Caped Crusader, the Gotham City Police Department was overrun and outgunned by criminal gangs. Enter Jacob Kane (Scott) and his military-grade Crows Private Security, which now protects the city with omnipresent firepower and militia. Years before, Jacob's first wife and daughter were killed in the crossfire of Gotham crime. He sent his only surviving daughter, Kate Kane, away from Gotham for her safety. After a dishonorable discharge from military school and years of brutal survival training, Kate returns home when the Alice in Wonderland gang targets her father and his security firm, by kidnapping his best Crow officer Sophie Moore (Tandy).

Although remarried to wealthy socialite Catherine Hamilton-Kane (Anweis), who bankrolls the Crows, Jacob is still struggling with the family he lost, while keeping Kate –– the daughter he still has –– at a distance. But Kate is a woman who's done asking for permission. In order to help her family and her city, she'll have to become the one thing her father loathes –– a dark knight vigilante.

With the help of her compassionate stepsister, Mary (Kang), and the crafty Luke Fox (Johnson), the son of Wayne Enterprises' tech guru Lucius Fox, Kate Kane continues the legacy of her missing cousin, Bruce Wayne, as Batwoman. Still holding a flame for her ex-girlfriend, Sophie, Kate uses everything in her power to combat the dark machinations of the psychotic Alice (Skarsten), who's always somewhere slipping between sane and insane. Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate soars through the shadowed streets of Gotham as Batwoman. But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, she must first overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope.

Live your best life with Maxicare Maxifest biggest health and fitness event

Just as I am trying to get fit again, Maxicare will hold its biggest health and fitness event this coming December.  They will try to break the Guinness Book of Record for the most number of people hugging a soft toy simultaneously while running.

Fitness is, without a doubt, the biggest trend in 2019 as it has the ability to shape better habits of living life to the fullest. With different exercise routines and innovative workouts that deliver sweat-inducing sessions, living your best life has never been more exciting.

For those who are always on the search for new and interesting ways to improve one’s fitness level, Maxicare Healthcare Corporation has got you covered as the country’s leading HMO provider that encourages people to live their best lives hosts MAXIFEST: Live Your Best Life at 5 E-Com, Harbor Drive, Pasay this coming December 15. The run is in partnership with one of the premiere race organizers in the country, RUNRIO.

“What makes this year’s MAXIFEST: Live Your Best Life different is that, aside from the series of running events which we have been doing for 2 years now, there will also be a Veggie Fest that will feature a festival of plant-based food products to promote healthy eating habits that one can incorporate into their life. We are also eyeing to become part of the Guinness World Record in our attempt to attract public attention on the importance of health and fitness. We hope that MAXIFEST will convince more and more people to make physical activity, as well as eating right, part of their daily routine to improve their quality of life,” said Maxicare chief marketing officer Archie V. Rillo.

Coming from the success of last year’s run, the event will once again include a 500-meter dash for three to 12-year-old kids, the 2k Senior Sprint for 60-year-olds and above, the basic 3k, the amiable distance of 5k, and the athletic 10k and 16k. The run is open to all as Maxicare encourages you to stay healthy so you can live your best life.

All runners will be given a race kit depending on their chosen course. It will include a race bib, timing chip, medal, singlet, and loot bag; an additional finisher shirt will be given to 16k runners.

Assembly time is as follows: 500-meter dash is at 6:30 am; 2k at 6:15 am; 3k at 6am; 5k at 5:30 am; 10k is at 5 am; and 16k is at 4:50 am. Fees are also determined by distance: Php 550 for the 500-meter dash; Php 650 for 2k Senior Sprint; Php 800 for 3k; Php 900 for 5k; Php 1,000 for 10k; and Php 1,100 for 16k.

To generate more buzz and awareness on the importance of health and fitness, Maxicare will attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the most number of people hugging a soft toy simultaneously as the event aims to gather over 4,000 runners and event guests.

For this event, each runner will be given a Maxibear, Maxicare’s official stuffed plushie, which runners will hug simultaneously to break the current world record. Cherry Run Elementary School (USA) in Burke, Virginia, USA is the current record holder.

At the end of the event, runners have the option to keep the Maxibear as a souvenir, or to donate it to kids of Kythe Foundation, Inc., the beneficiary of the event, as an early Christmas gift.

Kythe Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit, non-stock organization aimed towards improving the quality of life among hospitalized children with cancer and other chronic illness.

CreePIYU IV: Can you BE BRAVE?

In celebration of the upcoming Halloween season, Far Eastern University (FEU) Manila will open its doors to the public as it transforms into a campus of tricks and treats with the fourth installment of the annual CreePIYU this October 23.

Organized by FEU Guides through the President's Committee on Culture (PCC), the event promotes the school’s artistic environment — from the state-of-the-art historical buildings to the university’s encouraging creative culture.

CreePIYU is a sought-after community event that has evolved through the years. It has taken the form of a horror school and a mystery crime scene, with various PCC cultural groups making the themes come to life. This year, the event bewilders the mind as it follows the setting of a haunted hospital that straddles the border between sanity and insanity.

The most-anticipated activity of CreePIYU is the night tour in one of FEU’s UNESCO-awarded buildings where participants will be challenged to solve various puzzles and problems. To give a more holistic experience, the school grounds will be swarmed by members of the FEU PCC's Cultural Groups dressed as zombies and ghosts. However, for those faint of heart, a mini carnival with Halloween-themed booths and games will be mounted in the FEU Plaza to enjoy.

For inquiries, please contact PCC at (02) 8849 4145 or through the FB pages @FEUPCC and @FEUGuidesPCC.
