FamiLigtas seeks to educate and spread awareness about the reality of GBV within the family and the home

In these difficult times, stress and conflict happen in relationships. This include emotional, physical, financial and sexual abuse.

With over half the world still in lockdown, four billion people are now sheltering at home from the global contagion of COVID-19. It’s a protective measure, but it brings with it another deadly danger—domestic violence against women.

Even before COVID-19 existed, domestic violence was already one of the greatest human rights violations. In the previous 12 months, 243 million women and girls (aged 15-49) across the world have been subjected to sexual or physical violence by an intimate partner. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, this number is likely to grow with multiple impacts on women’s wellbeing, their sexual and reproductive health, their mental health, and their ability to participate and lead in the recovery of our societies and economy.

Wide under-reporting of domestic and other forms of violence has previously made response and data gathering a challenge, with less than 40 per cent of women who experience violence seeking help of any sort or reporting the crime. Less than 10 percent of those women seeking help go to the police.

“Government data shows that the number of cases of GBV and abuse reported to authorities declined during the first month and a half of COVID-19 lockdown measures,” said Danna Aduna of Lunas Collective, a feminist, inclusive chat service where people seeking support related to gender-based violence (GBV) and reproductive health can expect to be heard. “While these figures could mean a reduced prevalence of violence and abuse, it more likely points to something more worrisome--that victims are simply unable to report abuse, partly due to the quarantine measures themselves but also possibly due to their home setup. What this means is that it’s highly likely that the quarantine breeds situations that makes it more difficult, if not impossible, for a victim-survivor to report crimes done against them.”

In the Philippines, the National Demographic Health Survey 2017 released by the Philippine Statistics Authority revealed that one in four Filipino women, has experienced physical, emotional, or sexual violence from their husband or partner.

In the same survey, the top three perpetrators as reported by women who experienced/were experiencing GBV were revealed to be the victim’s current husband/partner (40%); former husband/partner (27%); or other relative (8.9%). Additionally, an average of eight people a day have fallen victim to sexual assault in the country during the community quarantine according to data from the Philippine National Police.

It is this problematic situation where stay-at-home measures to reduce transmission of COVID-19 are potentially leading to unreported cases of GBV that has prompted the creation of FamiLigtas—a campaign that seeks to build awareness among women, children, gender non-conforming, and non-binary individuals, as well as the public, about GBV in the home.

Keeping families safe from violence

At its core, FamiLigtas seeks to educate and spread awareness about the reality of GBV within the family and the home. FamiLigtas works closely with Lunas Collective, offering psycho-social support and appropriate information for authorities and health facilities. Lunas understands that the pandemic has caused stress for a lot of Filipino families, and that this has exacerbated GBV situations for many others who are stuck at home, but Aduna was quick to point out the importance of disabusing GBV victim-survivors. “Any stressful situation is not an excuse for any kind of violence,” she said.

For FamiLigtas, the concept of family extends beyond the home. This is why a big thrust of the campaign is to go beyond awareness and encourage help-seeking behavior by promoting other support systems in place within their local communities.

“Gender-based violence starts at home, which is why protection should also start at home,” said Karen Davila, Filipino journalist and staunch advocate for women’s rights.

Level up your smartphone photography game in style with the new realme 7i

For the regular readers of my blog, you know I’m not much of a techie, but lately as I have been given the opportunity to try out more smartphones, I’ve been learning a lot and becoming more aware of the differences and nuances of each smartphone.

Because lets face it, all smartphones look good on paper, but once you actually get to use it for quite some time, you realize that the specs aren’t the only details that matter.

I’m actually proud of myself, as I can now distinguish the differences in screen resolution, build quality, speed and performance and of course the photos taken by its cameras.

For the last few weeks, the phone I’ve been using is the realme 7i. And for those of you who love taking photos, want to try out vlogging or want to level up your IG game, the realme 7i presents a very good option.

As a blogger, we have to take lots and lots of photos we could post on our blogs, Instagram Pinterest  and Facebook page.  It may seem simple, but believe me, it takes a lot of time and practice to edit think of captions before finally deciding which photos to post. Lets just say for every photo I post, I have to take more than 20 photos first.

/>

It usually takes an hour for me to edit a photo in my Instagram and FB page, just because I couldnt decide on a filter.  Sometimes I’m in the mood for something that is vibrant, sometimes I want some pastel shades, and most of the time I end up undecided because I’m still not satisfied with the final outcome-- especially  when I take photos of urban landscapes and night shots.

Well it takes me half the time,  thanks to the realme 7i.

During our realme7i briefing among the key features they talked about were the 3 new filters, cyberpunk, flamingo and modern gold

Night time Shots

Cyberpunk
Flamingo

Modern Gold

Now, I rarely ever use the preset camera filters of the phone, instead relying on third party apps such as SNOW and Snapseed most of the time. But when my partner posted a photo of our last trip to megamall, I asked him what app he used, and he told me it was just the cyberpunk filter of the realme 7i.

So I tried it once, and now i have problems turning it off, because its so much fun to use. It gives of this cool futuristic vibe and when you take photos of buildings and lights its just so trippy, or whatever word millennials use to describe something really cool.

ON the other hand Modern Gold as its name indicates adds strong golden accents while Flamingo puts vibrant red everywhere and Cyberpunk is more on the pinkish side. The good news is you can also use these filters  in daytime, that is if you want to have a burst of colors to your images. Like for instance, you can use it in plants, trees or leaves to make your photos stand out. They're so cool you could use these filters anytime of the day.

Cyberpunk

Flamingo

Modern Gold

Good thing is these filters are live, you can actually choose any of the filters while taking a picture.

DESIGN

Just like the realme 6i, what I love about 7i is its design. I got the Polar blue mirror display,  I love that its sleek and smooth with its glossy rear panel. It looks classy. It has a 64-megapixel main camera, 8 megapixel for ultra wide and 2-megapixel sensors.

BATTERY

realme 7i boasts a 5,000mAh massive battery and 18W fast charge technology. I watched 4-hour episodes of Emily in Paris Netflix series, post in my Instagram stories, FB page, and do my online shopping and it still has its battery the next day.

CreativeFest NOW! is free to the public and happens from November 19-21

CreativeFest, the country’s largest gathering of creative professionals and advertising practitioners, is set to go all-digital with a name that reflects the tectonic shift brought about by our current reality: CreativeFest NOW!

Happening from November 19 to 21, the event—which is completely free to advertising and communication professionals, students, and the public—is a three-day festival with the theme: Stories Don’t Stop. CreativeFest NOW! is organized by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As) and the Creative Guild of the Philippines (Creative Guild), an organization composed of the creative directors of 4As member-agencies.

“With the current situation putting much of the world in a standstill, we are recognizing, all the more, the power of creativity to move people. There are boundless stories to be told - of creativity persisting, amidst loss and triumph, stories being written and constantly rewritten, every single day,” says 4As Chairman and BBDO Guerrero Creative Chairman, David Guerrero

The event will be headlined by some of the most important figures who are changing how we approach creativity. The keynote speakers of the event are: Merlee Jayme, one of the most celebrated women in advertising and the president of the newly formed global agency, dentsumcgarrybowen, she is also the first Filipino to hold the position; Audrey Tang, a former hacker and now Taiwan’s youngest cabinet member as Minister of Digital; and, Morten Bonde, esteemed author, motivational speaker and LEGO art director.

They are joined by other creative heavyweights, like Dumb Ways To Die creator John Mescall; the makers of culture-shaping and award-winning works from Libresse and AMV BBDO, Nadja Lossgott and Nicholas Hulley; one of Esquire’s Most Influential People of the 21st Century, John Maeda; internet sensation Macoy Dubs; the Filipino-American storyboard artist and director, Jay Oliva;  the man behind the Secret Base, Calvin Cuevas; and, many more.

“We believe that creativity doesn’t pause in the middle of a pandemic,” says Creative Guild President and VMLY&R Chief Creative Officer, Rey Tiempo. “Apart from keeping the creative flame alight, it will also serve as a much-needed helping hand during these challenging times - as proceeds from the event will be donated to Aidvertising, to help industry workers and families affected by the lockdowns.”

Aside from the first iteration of the event to go online, CreativeFest NOW! also promises to be the most accessible, as everyone is welcome to join the three-day discussion. The event will also benefit Aidvertsing, a fundraising effort that aims to assist freelance advertising production workers who lost their jobs because of the pandemic.

CreativeFest NOW! is presented by the 4As, the Creative Guild, and Smart. The event is sponsored by Nescafe, Cignal, ManuLife, Oishi, Dentsu JaymeSyfu, Grey Manila, Propel Manila, The Huddle Room, and Wunderman Thompson. In partnership with Grupo Agatep, Adobo Magazine, Mesh Lab, and Google.

The Busy Nurse 20 in 1 Coffee Mix can make your skin glow

Coffee with glutathione? Why not. Glutathione is an antioxidant and it helps reduce uncontrollable diabetes and fight autoimmune diseases. The side effect is it makes your skin lighter.  This is good news to all coffee drinkers like me who want to have a healthy sip and fairer skin.

So if you are looking for a healthier alternative to your favorite coffee drink. This is it.

The Busy Nurse 20 in 1 Coffee Mix is probably the first slimming and whitening coffee mix in the market which contains glutathione and collagen which helps achieve these two goals. It is the brainchild of Mary Rose Yap Zamora, an entrepreneur who is in the business of developing and selling beauty products.

“We started Busy Nurse when we realized that many of the buyers in our shops were looking for healthy coffee but we had nothing to offer them,” Zamora said. “Since all of our products were beauty products, we thought of coming up with a coffee that would make users healthier and prettier.”

As its name implies, the coffee contains 21 ingredients. These ingredients are Glutathione, acai berries, aloe vera, coffee, collagen, grape seed, Green Tea, Goji Berry, Garcinia Cambogia, Inulin Fiber, Lemon, L- Carnitine, Mangosteen, Moringa, non dairy creamer, spirulina, senna leaves, stevia leaves, turmeric and vitamin C.

“When you bring all these ingredients together, Busy Nurse Coffee will help burn fat and boost your energy and metabolism,” Zamora said. “The product provides you with natural detoxification, is rich in anti-oxidants and is useful in regulating bowel movement. That’s how beneficial this product is.”

Vitamin C, for example, boosts your immunity and prevents iron deficiencies. Lemon, on the other hand, is a good antioxidant that removes free radicals from the body while L Carnitine is a metabolism booster that aids in weight loss.

“Where in the market can you see a product that combines the best qualities of 20 ingredients and comes up with a coffee that not only whitens your skin but also helps you lose weight?” Zamora said. “That is Busy Nurse Coffee for you.”

The product was introduced to the market in May 2019 and so far, it has almost 3,000 local and international distributors. In such a short span of time, it has already been able to reap a number of significant rewards for Zamora.

Among the awards it has received so far include the 14th Gawad Pilipino Outstanding Herbal Coffee of the Year; Golden Dragon Awards of Excellence for the “Most Trusted Herbal Coffee Mix Products Provider;” International Icon Awards for Business Leadership and Achievers for being the “Most Trusted Herbal Coffee Mix Provider;” Gawad America Awards for 2019 Most Outstanding Filipino in the Field of Online Entrepreneurship.”

The product has also been featured in the ABS CBN shows “My Puhunan” hosted by Karen Davila and “Swak na Swak Ang Good Vibes Show ng Bayan.” Korina Sanchez also had the opportunity to meet the brand through an online interview Zamora was also interviewed by Korina Sanchez.

“These awards are a testament of the hard work that we put into the development of Busy Nurse Coffee,” Zamora said. “These awards also recognize the many benefits that our product has to offer and we would not get the attention of these very well respected journalists if it was not a good product.”

Enjoy Sunkist Freshie—a refreshing, caffeine-free carbonated drink with essential vitamins and minerals

No such thing as “good soda?” Think again.

You can now enjoy the fizz and flavor of soda without the guilt.

Introducing Sunkist Freshie—a refreshing, caffeine-free carbonated drink with essential vitamins and minerals, but with no sugar added.

Addressing health concerns about the long-standing reputation of soda as having adverse impact on one’s health due to incredibly high amounts of sugar and empty calories, Asia Brewery Inc.’s brand new soda drink has no sugar added as it is naturally sweetened with Stevia and fruit juice.

Stevia is a plant-based sweetener regarded as a safe and healthy sugar substitute and is associated with health benefits such as reduced calorie intake, blood sugar and risk of cavities as well as regulated blood pressure.

In the Philippines, authorities continue to hold public information campaigns that highlight the importance of a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness on sugar consumption, particularly of sugary drinks like soda, as one of the reasons for diabetes onset. Sunkist Freshie’s entry, however, offers a healthy alternative drink especially to those who love satisfying soda cravings.

Sunkist Freshie, as the “good soda,” contains Vitamin A that helps support immunity, Vitamin D and Calcium to help build strong bones, Iodine and Vitamin B12  ingredients known to help increase energy levels, and Iron an ingredient that has been known to help improve memory.

It also comes in two exciting, non-traditional flavors: Yoghurt and Apple that both promise a delightful drink experience.

To complete the “good soda” experience, Sunkist Freshie is giving everyone an opportunity to take part in meaningful causes relevant to the times.

“Sunkist Freshie is the healthy drink of choice for soda-loving consumers. Now, more than ever, people are becoming more conscious of their health and wellness. With Sunkist Freshie as a ‘good soda,’ we’d like people to know that they can absolutely still make this carbonated drink very much a part of their healthy lifestyle while contributing something good to society,” Hubert Tan, senior vice president for Asia Brewery Inc., said.

With Sunkist Freshie, you can change the way you soda.

Sunkist Freshie is available at a good, friendly SRP of P20 in Puregold, Ministop, Mercury Drug branches and other leading supermarkets, drug stores and convenience stores nationwide. You can even enjoy Sunkist Freshie with a low calorie meal through Yummy Diet (https://www.yummydiet.ph/index.php/home).
