“PLDT has been aggressively expanding our fiber network footprint nationwide, which has been key to the massive and consistent improvement of our internet speeds,” says Butch G. Jimenez, Senior Vice President and Head of PLDT Home Business.

Ookla, the global leader in internet testing and analysis, assessed the best network speeds attained across a given network, accounting for tests that are taken on various Speedtest® applications from different devices connected to a fixed network.

Undisputed Telco Leader

PLDT continues to set the standard for fast internet speeds in the Philippines with its repeat wins as the fastest fixed network at the Ookla Speedtest AwardsTM by recording the highest Speed Score™, top download and upload speeds compared to other telcos in the country. Huawei introduces Smart Classroom Solution at the recently concluded Huawei Industrial Digital Transformation Conference

As the Philippine education sector increasingly adopts digital technology, Huawei introduced its Smart Classroom Solution at the recently concluded Huawei Industrial Digital Transformation Conference, which will make day-to-day classes more interactive and engaging for both teachers and students.

The solution, based on HUAWEI IdeaHub Board and the education cloud platform, aims to address the long-term challenges faced by local educational institutions, such as the lack of interactive teaching methods and unbalanced allocation of resources.

Speaking during the education session of the conference, held online from March 24 to 26 of this year, Xu Jun, Vice President of Global Government Business Unit, Enterprise Business Group of Huawei, explained how the Smart Classroom Solution focuses on students and combines both online and offline methods to meet the interaction requirements in classrooms.

The Smart Classroom Solution utilizes the large-screen IdeaHub Board as a portal and leverages smart terminals, such as tablets and various teaching applications, to share high-quality teaching resources based on the cloud platform. For remote teaching, the solution offers functions such as online learning, live streaming, and recording.

To further enhance the teaching-learning experience, HUAWEI IdeaHub Board has a group discussion scenario wherein teachers and students can share content and interact with each other. This encourages students to participate in class while improving teaching experience and efficiency.

With the shift to online learning, parents have become worried about their children's prolonged exposure to blue light. Studies show that vision impairment is one of the major concerns in the Philippines, and Filipino children are especially prone to eye problems. For this reason, Huawei prioritizes users’ visual comfort and protection by equipping the IdeaHub Board with anti-blue light technology, which blocks harmful blue lights from the light source while also preventing yellow cast.

Through technological innovation, Huawei hopes to help transform the traditional education setup in the Philippines into a student-centric, "online + offline" hybrid teaching mode.

Huawei unveiled other key innovations at the conference, showcasing its latest progress in connectivity, cloud and artificial intelligence that will benefit the country’s government, education, transportation, finance and energy sectors.

Here are Tips to help save Mother Earth

While not a major contributor to the global climate crisis, the Philippines is still part of the top 25% of low and middle income countries that produce significant greenhouse gas emissions. With Earth Day right around the corner—and carbon dioxide levels hitting an all-time highit’s time to make a change.

Though there are larger entities that create a wider-scale impact, that doesn’t mean you can’t do your part to help curb the damage! The planet still needs a global solution in order to significantly reduce carbon emissions, but there are things that you can do on your own to lessen your ecological footprint.

First things first, educate yourself. They say knowledge is power. Before we can change the way we live, we need to understand why we need to do so. Read up and educate yourself on the consequences of the climate crisis on future generations and our individual and collective responsibilities. Share your knowledge when you can. This simple act can help us improve our relationship with Mother Earth.

Here are other tips that you can easily do at home:

Eat low on the food chain.

Red meat is one of the biggest contributors to harmful emissions. We know giving up steak forever is hard, but once in a while, try swapping out red meat and processed food for plant-based meat. Even better, consider alternatives such as fish, fruits, and vegetables. Aside from reducing your personal carbon footprint, you can enjoy a healthier diet! It’s also a great way to support our local farmers and fishermen.

Use eco-friendly household products.

Since most of us are quarantining at home, our household product consumption has increased. Unfortunately, many of these daily essentials, such as toothbrushes, shampoos, and cleaning materials, are made with toxic chemicals that harm the environment. Luckily, more brands have developed sustainable products that we can use as alternatives.

Plant your own garden

Many of us recently unleashed our inner plantitos and plantitas. It’s fun, therapeutic, and one of the best ways we can practice environmental stewardship! Your plant babies can help get rid of toxic air released by furniture and electronics. Growing an urban garden and eating your own vegetables can also help reduce the impact of transporting produce, which takes up a lot of energy. Growing and caring for your plants will benefit your overall physical and mental well-being, all while helping fight climate change.

Reduce consumption of single-use plastics.

Disposable utensils, straws, and plastic water bottles are convenient when you’re on the go, but they’re also bad for the environment. These single-use plastics all end up in landfills and waterways. However, the simple act of substituting these items with more sustainable options is already a big step towards positive change. Avoid using them and instead, purchase reusable products that can last you for years to come.

TikTok Creator Yukii Artana braves the streets every day to bring food to people's homes

Its fun to watch Grab riders doing their thing on TikTok. Be entertained with Tiktoker/rider Yukii from Imus Cavite.

These days, many depend on delivery services for essential goods like groceries, medicine and food. Thanks to delivery riders, countless families are able to stay safe and protected indoors. 27-year old Julio "Yukii" Artana from Imus, Cavite is one of those delivery riders. Along with others like him, Yukii braves the streets every day to bring food to people's homes.

A rider who delivers both food and fun

Yukii is also a TikTok creator, entertaining his followers with dance videos, which he frequently creates while wearing his delivery uniform. He first joined TikTok because it was popular during lockdown. Little did he know that, a year later, he would have 132k followers on the app, and that his content would gain millions of views.

Here are some of Yukii's best TikTok videos, including one that has already garnered 4.6M views!

Having worked as a food delivery rider for two years, Yukii feels a sense of responsibility and pride in his job, and in his ability to provide this service to many Filipinos. He shares, "Masaya ako dahil nakakapaghatid ako ng tamang serbisyo sa customers ko, at nakakatulong din po kami upang mabawasan ang paglabas ng mga tao."

The job isn't always easy, and Yukii says that some days aren't as productive and profitable as others as far as bookings are concerned. Apart from this, he also faces many other challenges as a rider. "Bukod po dito sa pandemic , may pagsubok din kami dapat kakaharapin kagaya po ng panahon ngayon. Sobrang init din po sa labas, samahan pa ng usok ng mga sasakyan minsan umuulan pa, at isa sa mga kinakatakutan namin na minsan na may mga client kami na hindi nakuha yung pag pagkain dahil sa kulang sa inpormasyon, like wrong pin location, dahil pera talaga namin pinang-aabono namin," he says.

The health risk is another major concern for Yukii. Knowing this, he always makes sure to follow proper safety protocols.

Safety should be a priority, both in the real world and online

While our present situation requires us to take measures to remain safe and healthy, TikTok also takes steps towards fortifying its safety features, for the wellbeing of all users on the app. These features include:

• Family Pairing, which allows parents to turn certain app features on and off remotely

• Screen Time Management, where parents can limit their child's daily screen time to 40, 60, 90, or 120 minutes on the app

• Restricted viewing mode, which limits the appearance of content that may be inappropriate

• Preventing downloads of videos created by users under 16 years old

• Preventing the use of videos created by users below 16 for the Duet and Stitch features, which gives other users the ability to clip and integrate scenes from one user's video into their own

• Restricting the use of videos for Duet and Stitch to friends only for users aged 16 to 18

• Restricting of comments on videos created by users aged 13 to 15 to friends only

• Limiting livestream hosting access to users aged 16 and above

• Limiting buying, sending, and receiving of virtual gifts to users aged 18 and above.

AirAsia is set to inoculate 1,500+ Filipino Allstars against COVID-19 starting next month

Ready for a strong return of demand in air travel, and true to its core value of putting people first, AirAsia is set to inoculate 1,500+ Filipino Allstars against COVID-19 starting next month.

AirAsia has identified its priority list which includes  frontliner Allstars, such as ground staff, pilots, cabin crew and others who have direct engagements with its guests.

This initiative comes as a step towards rebuilding confidence among passengers highlighting the highest standards on safety and customer service.

AirAsia partnered with government agencies and private entities to secure the initial doses for those included in the priority lists.

All smiles with a thumbs up sign, AirAsia CEO Ricky Isla took the COVID-19 vaccine administered by a government health worker on 15 April 2021

In an internal survey conducted by its People and Culture Department, a vast majority, or 92 percent of the respondents, have expressed their willingness to be vaccinated.

AirAsia also has an ongoing internal campaign among its leaders to encourage its Allstars to take the shot.

Recently, AirAsia CEO Ricky Isla took the jab as part of those classified under A2 or senior citizens.

AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla said, “As an industry leader, we must help bring the accurate information to the public, especially our employees, so that they may be able to make an informed choice and the best decision of protecting themselves against COVID-19.

“It takes everyone to break the COVID-19 chain. I took the shot that is readily available because I believe that it's our little share of putting an end to this pandemic. It is our responsibility to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and most importantly the people we serve.

“AirAsia recognizes that the aviation sector plays a critical role as economic and tourism drivers, and we know that getting the COVID-19 vaccine is the next necessary phase of recovery.”

Meanwhile, AirAsia also supports the initiative of the Tourism Department to adopt a platform developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) that will enable passengers to digitally manage their travel documents and share their test and vaccination results.

For its part, AirAsia has an ongoing regional integration for all Airline Operation Center (AOC) following the IATA Digital Travel Pass.

AirAsia Philippines Spokesperson Steve Dailisan said, “Although nothing is final yet, what’s certain is that AirAsia will fully support all measures that will further enhance safety and rebuild confidence in air travel.

Aside from having a standard set of requirements from the Local Government Units (LGUs), there must always be stringent measures in place that will allow industry stakeholders to validate the authenticity of documents such as COVID-19 test results and vaccination certificates submitted by all our guests. This will enable swift coordination among LGUs, transport regulators, airline companies, molecular laboratories and health authorities.

It is also important to make sure that the process is hassle-free for passengers so that they are encouraged to travel and help reboot trade and tourism.”

AirAsia’s efforts by going above and beyond the protection of its guests against COVID-19 have been globally recognized, with a perfect 7-star rating from Airlineratings.com.
