The recently held first session, A Talk with Thought Leaders, was a Facebook live event featuring leaders and experts from different industries. JCI Philippines is also set to kick off its Emerging Leaders program, which aims to help the youth develop leadership skills and learn the principles of building positive relationship. It will also guide them in improving decision making, priority setting, critical thinking and interpersonal skills. The first Emerging Leaders session is scheduled for the last week of October and will include eight to 10 trainers. Berdin also shared her registration experience, admitting that she was unequipped with the necessary information when she intended to register after turning 18 last year. She said the accessibility of information online was helpful in understanding the procedure and completing the registration process.

Other social media influencers have been joining #AmbagKo as well. Jae Miranda, a fan-favorite TikToker, shared a photo of his purple thumb mark on his Facebook page with the caption: “With Filipinos 18 to 35 years old numbering 40 million or 37 percent of the entire electorate eligible to vote in 2022, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority and COMELEC, millennial and Gen Z Filipinos play a key role in shaping the future of the Philippines.”

COMELEC reported it has processed 63 million voters for next year’s elections, including 5 million new registrants, 871,000 individuals reactivating their data and 3.2 million who applied for transfer of voter data. While the total number of registered voters to date is higher than the 59 million target, it is still 10 million short of the Philippine Statistics Authority’s projected voting population.[1]

To cap off the National Tourism Week celebrated every year, LRMC has released the ikotMNL train ride video featuring a virtual tour of points of interest near LRT-1 stations.  The virtual tour begins at Roosevelt Station all the way to Baclaran Station. The video was produced in partnership with Cities: Skylines content creator Gilbert Roy Alva whose Gilbert Plays YouTube Channel has been active for the past five years.

The first stop of the virtual tour begins at the northernmost point at Roosevelt station, where shopping destinations SM North EDSA, Ayala Malls Trinoma, Munoz Market and S&R Congressional branch are easily accessible, as well as the Ninoy Aquino Wildlife Parks near the Quezon Memorial Circle. It is followed by the Balintawak station, where viewers are brought to the Ayala Malls CloverleafLanders Superstore as well as the Balintawak Market.

The journey continues at the Yamaha Monumento station, with nearby Malabon ZooAndres Bonifacio National Monument, and the future SM Grand Central as locations of interest. Venturing deeper into the capital city of Manila, one can dine in D’ Original Palabokan sa Obrero for authentic palabok, accessible from R. Papa station. Those looking for good lechon can get off at Abad Santos station to try Manila’s original lechon places—you can also stop by the Manila Chinese Cemetery or visit the row of cheap furniture stores located on Rizal Avenue Extension from here as well.

Those looking to take the Philippine National Railways (PNR) train can alight at Blumentritt station for the interchange. Further up the line is Tayuman station, where the Dangwa and Dapitan markets can be visited for great finds and fresh flowers. Travelers looking to visit the University of Santo Tomas, Manila’s oldest university, or find medical supplies at a bargain can go down at Bambang station. Shoppers wanting to get a taste of the authentic shopping experience in Manila’s famous Divisoria Mall can stop at Doroteo Jose station, where the University Belt and the interchange to the LRT-2 line are also found.

Hungry for some authentic Chinese food? Alighting from the Carriedo station will bring you to Manila’s Chinatown in Binondo.  Feast on noodles and more at restaurants like the original R. Ma Mon Luk, Sincerity Restaurant, David’s Tea House, and the Eng Bee Tin Flagship Store. The historic Binondo Church can also be found and the New Chinatown Arch. Near Carriedo Station, you can also shop for jewelry near Chinatown Gold Center or for handicraft at Quiapo 21 Awesome Budget Home Finds. The legacy site of SM (the first SM Store) is near the station too for items on clearance sale.

Looking to soak up the rich history of the city of Manila? What better place to go to than the walled city of Intramuros.  For other must-see local tourist stops, alight at the Central Station to lead you to the Manila City Hall, Liwasang Bonifacio, and the newly-refurbished Metropolitan Theater. Other nearby landmarks to visit include the Rizal Park and the National Museum Complex.  This is easily accessible from the UN Avenue Station.  From there, city landmarks like the University of the Philippines Manila, the Philippine General Hospital, the Manila Zoo, Plaza Rajah Sulayman and Remedios Circle in bustling Malate can be reached from the next stop, Pedro Gil station.

More historic sites are up the street, as getting down on Vito Cruz station lets you go to De La Salle University and the College of Saint Benilde, Rizal Memorial Stadium, Coconut Palace, and Cultural Center of the Philippines. The next stop, Gil Puyat station, is near the Upside Down Museum, the Buendia Food Court (with a lot of great food options), the World Trade Center, and the bus terminals for provincial trips.

Shoppers will want to get down at Libertad station, which traverses the city of Pasay, as the famed Cartimar Shopping Center is located within walking distance from the station. The Dampa sa Pasay, Cuneta Astrodome, and the Pasay City Hall are also nearby. One more stop after this, EDSA station, places you near the SM Mall of Asia complex, with Conrad Manila, Dessert Museum, future IKEA store, and the Philippine Senate which areeasily accessible. The MRT-3 interchange is also located at the EDSA station.

Last but not the least, the southernmost stop is Baclaran station, where the Baclaran Shopping Center, Baclaran Church, and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport are located, capping off the eventful trip through the metropolis. The Baclaran Station will soon connect to the new stations being added in the Cavite Extension Project once it is completed.

“Our ikotMNL tourism campaign aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, showing the importance of building back better especially after this pandemic. Through this video, we wanted to promote the value of LRT-1’s network, how it is connecting people to life-relevant destinations and delivering them to these places in comfort. These important destinations include food places, shopping areas, leisure sites, schools, work places among others. We wanted to reveal local spots of interest and encourage people to discover more of their neighborhoods via public or active transport, while traveling today still remains largely limited,” LRMC Head of Corporate Communications and Customer Relations Jacqueline Gorospe said.

“We have our mobile app, also called ikotMNL, to equip our commuters with better information about the train rides, destinations, and LRT-1 operations. It is available for download for free on Google Play and App Store to help them on their next LRT-1 trip,” Gorospe added.

With the strict implementation of its health and safety protocols, LRMC assures that LRT-1 passengers can have peace of mind while riding the train as they go out for essential needs or even leisure trips around the metro once again.

For more updates and info on the LRT-1, follow LRMC on Facebook at facebook.com/officialLRT1, Twitter at @officialLRT1, or download the ikotMNL mobile app for free on Google Play and App Store.

Smart announces there’s no need to change your number through MNP when you switch to Smart

Switching to the country’s fastest and most reliable mobile network without having to change your number is now possible as Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) launches its Mobile Number Portability (MNP) capability starting today, Sept. 30.

MNP, which is covered by the MNP Act or RA 11202,  enables Filipinos to retain their mobile number even when they change service providers, giving them greater freedom to choose the best network and services that suit their needs. Under MNP, customers may also switch their prepaid account to a postpaid plan and vice-versa without replacing their mobile number.

 Make the Smart move now

To switch to the Smart network, a mobile user must first secure a Unique Subscriber Code from his or her originating provider to serve as clearance, and bring it to the nearest Smart Store along with a valid ID and any proof of mobile ownership. From there, Smart shall begin processing the MNP application without any charges.  To know more about making the Smart move, mobile users may also visit x.smart/switch or head to the nearest Smart Store.

“MNP enables more mobile users to finally make the Smart move and experience the country’s fastest mobile data network without the hassles that go with changing one’s mobile number – from having to import contacts and inform your circles, to relinking digital subscriptions and e-wallets,” said Jane J. Basas, SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business at Smart.

“It is also a game-changer for the telco industry because it pushes us to improve and raise the bar on our services, which we at Smart have been constantly doing with our aggressive network improvement efforts and 5G rollout."

Philippines’ Fastest 5G Network

Ookla, the global leader in internet testing and analysis, has recognized these efforts in a new report declaring Smart as the country’s most reliable 5G mobile operator*.

To clinch the award, Smart obtained the highest scores in 5G Consistency and 5G Availability based on Speedtest Intelligence data in Q2 2021. 5G Consistency is calculated based on the percentage of a provider’s users that meet minimum download and upload speeds. On the other hand, 5G Availability identifies the network whose users spend the highest percentage of their time on 5G.

Smart topped 5G Consistency with a score of 89.78 percent versus Globe’s 78.15 percent. Smart also led when it comes to 5G Availability with a score of 14.67 percent versus Globe’s 11.86 percent.

Prior to this, Ookla has also cited Smart as the Philippines’ Fastest 5G Mobile Network in Q1-Q2 2021**, with median download and upload speeds that are twice as fast as its closest rival.  The firm has also declared Smart as the Philippines' fastest mobile network for four years in a row now.

“These awards only reinforce the superior customer experience we offer our subscribers. These also inspire us to keep getting better and faster so our customers can live the Giga Life and pursue their passions in our increasingly digitized world,” said Basas.

Since it launched the country's first commercial 5G service in July last year, Smart has now fired up over 4,000 5G sites in more than 3,000 locations across the nation, making it the Philippines' first, fastest, and widest 5G network.

Innovative services for subscribers

Beyond providing fast mobile connectivity, Smart also constantly dishes out innovative services to stay ahead of subscribers’ needs.

Those who wish to switch to a Smart Postpaid may sign up for the new Signature Plans+ starting at P999 per month, and enjoy the first postpaid lineup in the country featuring Unli 5G access plus Unli Calls & Texts to All Networks, Unli Calls to All Landline Numbers, and a 12-month mobile subscription to Netflix.

On the other hand, new Prepaid subscribers will enjoy Giga Hello data, call, and text freebies to keep them connected from the get-go. Smart Prepaid subscribers can also enjoy unlimited access to their favorite apps with Unli GIGA offers, while TNT customers can enjoy Double GIGA Video which comes with 14 GB for more streaming on YouTube, iWantTFC, CignalPlay, and GigaPlay plus 2 GB for all sites and apps valid for 7 days.

Smart also enables all subscribers to conveniently manage their digital lifestyle with the GigaLife App, an innovative one-stop app that allows subscribers to check their account details, monitor their subscriptions and usage, and buy promos from a comprehensive list of offers to suit every lifestyle. Subscribers may also conveniently transact on the GigaLife App using GigaPay as well as earn and accumulate GigaPoints that may be exchanged for exclusive rewards, lifestyle perks, and awesome experiences.

Make the Smart move now! Visit x.smart/switch or head to the nearest Smart Store to know more.

As part of its campaign “The New Life: A Health Care Lens Towards a Post-Pandemic World,” Havas Life will be hosting the webinar “The World Reimagined: A Prosumer Report on Health and Hygiene” featuring experts from health care and government as they provide their points of view about life coming out of the pandemic.

Sharing their insights will be Dr. Eric Tayag, Director IV Knowledge Management and Information Technology Service Department of the Department of Health; Dr. Christine Tinio, Vice-President of the Philippine Medical Association; and Dr. Ted Padilla, Executive Director of the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Association of the Philippines.  The online discussion is the third and last in Havas Life’s series of webinars on the effects of COVID-19 on health and wellness.

The webinar will mainly feature highlights from the Havas Prosumer Report on Health and Hygiene, which reflects insights from Filipino prosumers and their views on the role the health sector in paving the way for a better post-pandemic world. The Prosumer Report is a series of thought leadership publications by the Havas Group in order to understand emerging trends. Prosumers are the 30% of the consumers who are today’s leading influencers and market drivers. What prosumers are doing today, mainstream consumers are likely to follow 6 to 18 months after.

“While we may not be nearing the end of the pandemic just yet, we should already be thinking of how to cope with its irreversible and long-term effects in our society. There may be a lot of things we still can’t answer with certainty but what is clear is the huge role that the healthcare sector will play even after COVID-19 is no longer a global threat,” said Amor Magno, General Manager of Havas Life. “That’s why Havas Life is investing in these exchanges and reports, because we believe we should think beyond the immediate effects of the pandemic.”

Launched early this year, The New Life Webinar series of Havas Life is Havas Media Ortegas response to the impacts of the COVID pandemic. Havas Life provides an integrated approach to communication by combining market research with medical expertise.

The World Reimagined: A Prosumer Report on Health and Hygiene webinar will be held on September 30, 4PM to 6PM Manila time. To register, visit https://havaslife.mme.ph/registration/.
