Manulife and MCBL Honored with Golden Arrow Awards for Exemplary Corporate Governance and Stakeholder Management


 

Manulife Philippines and Manulife China Bank Life Assurance Corporation (MCBL) recently won Golden Arrow Awards from the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) for their exemplary performance in corporate governance based on the 2022 ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS) and Corporate Governance Scorecard (CGS) Assessment Results. 

 

The ACGS is an ASEAN-wide rating system that evaluates company performance across key areas, including promotion of shareholder rights and fair treatment, stakeholders’ interactions, transparency and accountability, and board’s effectiveness in guiding the company's strategy, overseeing management, and being accountable to the company and its shareholders. Based on publicly available disclosures on company websites, the Corporate Governance Scorecard assessment results aim to underscore and enhance corporate governance standards and practices within the country, making Philippine publicly listed companies and insurance firms more appealing to potential investors.

Shopee and the PNP signed an MOU to ensure public safety and security while shopping on the platform

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in the country, has taken significant steps to ensure the safety and security of online shoppers by forming a joint commitment with the Philippine National Police (PNP). 

 

Shopee and the PNP signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) recently to ensure public safety and security while shopping on the platform. This initiative compromises two main components. First, it involves proactively preventing the sales of police-related items and ensuring these items are not misused or made available for illegal purposes. Secondly, it includes an educational campaign to enable users to effectively detect and address online scams.

The collaboration with the PNP signifies a substantial step forward in Shopee’s endeavor to further intensify its educational initiatives on online scam prevention.

Xiaomi Pop Run 2023: The First-Ever Philippine Edition


A beautiful sunrise greeted the excited crowd at Bridgetowne Destination Estate for the first-ever Philippine Xiaomi Pop Run on October 28. The corner of Eulogio Rodriguez Jr. Avenue and Ortigas Avenue Extension in Quezon City bustled with the energy of over a thousand eager runners ready to take on the day's challenge. It was a perfect beginning to an unforgettable day of fitness and fun.

Xiaomi Pop Run, which has its roots in China's Xiaomi Orange Run, burst onto the scene in 2018, taking the world by storm. With four successful runs under its belt, the event has become a must-attend for Xiaomi fans who want to celebrate health, style, and the Xiaomi brand.


Now, for the first time in the Philippines, the Xiaomi Pop Run 2023 has gotten local fitness enthusiasts pumped up, bringing together Xiaomi fans from various walks of life, and rekindling their passion for a more active lifestyle.

 

An Early Morning Adventure at Bridgetowne Destination Estate

 

Before daybreak, the atmosphere buzzed with anticipation as participants began to converge at Bridgetowne as early as 4 am. They came primed for a day of exhilarating races, with many adjusting their smartwatches for the challenges that lay ahead. Notably, the stylish new Xiaomi Smart Band 8 made a prominent appearance among the crowd, showcasing its seamless fusion of fashion and functionality. Warmly welcomed by the event's cheerful staff, upbeat music, and colorful decorations, the participants couldn't help but get caught up in a festive mood.

 

There were two race distances to choose from: 10k or 3k, depending on their preference and level of challenge. The 10k race was competitive, with timing and ranking, and the winners received cool prizes from Xiaomi, such as a Xiaomi 13T smartphone and a Xiaomi Smart Band 8. The 3k race was a more relaxed and enjoyable one, with fabulous goodies for the participants, such as bags, t-shirts, stickers, and medals.

 

The races started at 5:10 AM for the 10k runners and at 5:20 AM for the 3k runners. The runners took off with enthusiasm and determination, aiming to complete their races in the best possible time. 

 

The runners had a blast running along the scenic Eulogio Rodriguez Jr. Avenue and Ortigas Avenue Extension. They also enjoyed precious bonding moments with their loved ones and even made new friends along the way.


 

Zumba, Yoga, and Xiaomi Pop Run's Spectacular Finish

 

The runners completed their races by 7:40 AM, but the fun didn't stop there. Cool-down sessions like Zumba and Yoga helped everyone stretch, relax, and get into the post-race celebratory mood. Some also checked out booths from Xiaomi, especially the product demos for the Xiaomi Band 8.

Runners of all levels can use the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 to track their heart rate, blood oxygen level, sleep quality, stress level, and more. It also has a GPS function that allows them to record the distance, speed, and route of their runs. The band has a large, clear 1.62” AMOLED display, an impressive battery life of up to 16 days, fast charging, and a sleek metallic frame.

The Xiaomi Pop Run 2023 ended with an exciting stage program, award ceremony, raffle draw, and lots of fun stories from the participants. Several sponsors helped to make the event a success, including Redbull, Viu, Salonpas, Fitbar, Bridgetowne Destination Estate, and Robinsons. They all added their own unique flavor to the festivities, making the day truly special.

AirAsia Philippines is ready to serve you during the long Undas commemoration

AirAsia Philippines has assured all guests flying to various provinces for the observance of All Souls and All Saints Day of a smooth and on time customer journey at the NAIA Terminal 2.


To show the airline’s readiness for Undas and the long weekend, AirAsia Philippines Chief Executive Officer Ricky Isla and Manila International Airport Authority Officer in Charge Bryan Co together with other airport officials conducted a walkthrough of AirAsia check-in counters and kiosks, and boarding gates at the NAIA terminal 2.


AirAsia expects to operate more than 700 domestic flights and carry over 90,000 guests from 27 October to 1 November. This is 8% higher than the same figures for the same period in 2022 with all domestic destinations averaging 90-93% passenger load.


To support the influx of guests, aside from 20 check-in counters, 4 customer happiness counters were also activated to efficiently address guests’ concerns. In addition, 4 self check-in kiosks are made available to facilitate contactless check-in, especially those without check-in baggage.

This exercise will also support MIAA’s positive on time performance,” Mr. Isla said.


AirAsia Philippines is closing the month of October on a positive 90% on time performance.  


"With the commitment of our airline and industry partners, we aim to maintain our strong OTP record from the long weekend rush this year. Our objective is to minimize crowding in passenger and aircraft movement areas through the timely dispatch of flights. We're striving to establish this as a norm at NAIA. Thanks to our partnerships with airlines and government agencies, passengers are starting to notice a positive shift in NAIA operations," shared OIC Co.

With the long weekend coinciding with this year’s All Saint and All Souls Day, more people are expected to leave for the provinces this weekend. To avoid being stuck in the traffic rush, AirAsia Philippines is encouraging all its guests to allot extra travel time, at least 3 to 4 hours before their scheduled flight.

Replacing Chef Chico': A Taste of Love in the First Filipino-Produced Series


For Filipinos, romance and food make a sizzling combination, and the first local Netflix production in a series format serves up a zesty love triangle set against the backdrop of a high-end fine dining restaurant. 


Replacing Chef Chico is the brainchild of director Dan Villegas, assistant director Joi Bayan, and showrunner Antoinette Jadaone. It stars three of the biggest names in the local entertainment industry — Piolo Pascual (My Amanda), Alessandra de Rossi (My Amanda and What If) and Sam Milby (A Family Affair). 


Offering a glimpse into the high-stakes and competitive culinary world, the series’ trailer introduces viewers to the main characters whose lives become intertwined at Hain, a fictional up-and-coming fine dining restaurant that specializes in customizing each dish to mirror their diners’ unique life stories. But things take an unexpected turn when titular character Chef Chico (Milby) gets into an accident, leaving him in a coma. The fate of Hain is suddenly left in the hands of his sous chef Chef Ella (de Rossi) and a newly hired consultant Raymond (Pascual), who has more than just the restaurant on his mind.


Speaking to a panel of press and outlets in the “See What’s Next” event on September 18, acclaimed showrunner Antoinette Jadaone (Fan Girl and That Thing Called Tadhana) shared that her inspiration for Replacing Chef Chico came from her love for food-related shows. 


Recommending the series  for holiday viewing, she added: “I think it’s perfect for the Christmas season because, at its core, it’s about love, friendship, and acceptance. Each episode tells a story of family, friendship, and love, all celebrated over food.” 


Both Jadone and Villegas (Exes Baggage and Always Be My Maybe) also expressed their excitement over the evolving media landscape and what it means for the future of streaming and media consumption in the Philippines. Replacing Chef Chico was produced for Netflix in association with CS Studios and Project8.

Jollitown Kiddie Fair: Where Parents and Kids Craft Special Jolly Memories Together


 

Kids and their parents had the jolliest time at the Jollitown Kiddie Fair, held recently at the SMX Convention Center. The event served as the jolliest bonding experience for families, with its engaging learning activities, unique games and challenges, interactive shows, and all-day, all-around fun helping create special memories they’ll remember for a long time. 

 

Jollibee has become a champion of joy for Filipino parents and kids throughout the years, and the Jollitown Kiddie Fair continues to give them more cherished moments. The event was opened by Jollibee’s brand ambassador, Jolina Magdangal Escueta, and her kids, Pele and Vika. She and her kids got to participate and have fun in all the event activities, while also getting interviewed about being a mother and brand ambassador.

Kids got a chance to make their own Jolly Spaghetti, Yumburger, and test their store manager skills in the MiniBee station as they had fun assembling delicious Jollibee food for their friends and parents. They also had the Party Palooza, which was an energetic all-day party celebration that had a whole host of games and activities that offered the full party experience


The Jollitown Kiddie Fair also offered activities that challenged their skills, like the Chickenjoy Bucket Throw game where they tested their aim to win prizes, and avoided spaghetti-shaped wires in the Spag-o-wired game. Kids also solved different puzzles in the Jollitown Puzzle House, which was also a fun learning challenge and an interactive experience for kids of all ages. They also uncovered fun prizes in the Fry-nd The Treasure activity, while other kids tried to grab theirs at Yum’s Claw Machine.

 

Alongside the many activities and fun games, kids also got to watch an incredible set of shows happening on the main stage. This includes the bubble show where kids rushed to the stage to get closer to participate in blowing and popping bubbles. The magic show had jaw-dropping tricks that left kids in awe with each routine. The Dancing Balloon Show by Tectonix was also a highlight, as kids were dancing along to the music while being fascinated by the many balloon tricks. 

 

Aside from the activities, parents and kids enjoyed delicious Jollibee food. This included sweet-sarap Jolly Spaghetti, which families enjoyed so much during the event. With delicious food and the jolliest activities, the Jollitown Kiddie Fair gave families moments to remember, and memories that they cherish together.
