Pioneer Insurance's Real to Reel Competition recently concluded with a cinema screening and awarding ceremony, celebrating the creativity and talent of its Gen Z participants. This event provided a platform for young filmmakers to showcase their artistic abilities while addressing pressing social issues through their unique perspectives.
The competition invited students aged 15 to 24 to submit 3–5-minute short films focusing on key socio-economic issues such as poverty, education, climate change, health and wellness, and effective leadership. The top 10 entries received cash prizes and insurance coverage from Pioneer, with the winner receiving ₱100,000.
Among the standout entries were "Ang Panawagan ni Googly" by Jerry Surpia from Leyte Normal University, which secured the top spot; "Calor" by Troy Bryan Fontanar from Visayas State University, earning second place; and "Trapo" (Traditional Politics) by Danreb Dela Cruz, Myro Andrada, and John Rhey Flores from Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School, which secured third place.
Pioneer Group Head Lorenzo Chan Jr. emphasized the importance of spotlighting the youth perspective, stating, “The ‘Real to Reel’ competition is our way of empowering the younger generation to express their opinions creatively through short films. Their vision of the future can help us light the path towards a better Philippines.”
