Solar Entertainment unveils channels' new look and line up

I remember the first time we had our cable installed, the first channel that caught my attention is 2nd Avenue from Solar Entertainment because of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.  I love that Ellen excites me with her guests lineup. How she makes us laugh, dance and not afraid of pulling pranks to her guests, politician or not. With Ellen, you are entertained and feels better right after the show.  I love how Ellen' writers bring out fresh ideas/program to the show.

Solar Entertainment recently unveils new look and channel line ups at Marco Polo Hotel last October 12. Solar Entertainment President and CEO Wilson Tieng graced the launch together with the media.

Solar Entertainment Corporation remains to be the largest content provider and channel operator in Southeast Asia. The network is comprised of seven (7) channels—ETC, 2nd Avenue, Jack TV, CT, Solar Sports, Basketball TV, and NBA Premium. The viewers are in for a treat when they tune in to Solar Entertainment’s roster of channels on Sunday, October 16, as the first integrated rebranding execution of the channels will be revealed.

In hindsight, it was an effort done separately by the stations. Solar Entertainment Corporation President and CEO Wilson Tieng says, “[This year], we are doing the change of the broadcast design simultaneously for higher impact and to bring more excitement for the channels and its viewers. Through this venture, we aim to boost viewership and market share by giving a fresh take on our channels and topnotch content tied with the new look.”

While the technology of content delivery to the market is evolving, the TV network continues to grow and keep up with the changing landscape. “Solar has kept its fingers on the pulse of media-savvy Filipino audiences,” says Tieng. “We pay attention to emerging viewing habits while at the same time, setting the trend and changing mindsets.”

With the emergence of digital media, Solar stays on top of its game as the pioneer in providing Filipino audiences the access to international shows, sporting events, films, and eventually online content. Tieng confirms, “We have to open all the avenues for marketing and revenue. It creates the challenge of gaining traction with your audience, especially the millennials, and support from advertisers. There are more exciting announcements for this last stretch of the year and onto 2017, specifically for the channel content and digital assets of Solar. We are definitely going for more.”

Who will be the next Filipino Runway Pride at Project Runway Season 4?

I got a first glimpse of  15 designers' creation  for Project Runway Philippines Season 4 last May 27 at Green Sun, Makati. Their design was presented in a mini fashion show hosted by Cerah Hernandez and Project Runway Supermodel host-judge Tweetie de Leon Gonzales. International fashion designer Josie Natori graced the event with fashion luminary and runway mentor Jojie Lloren.

ETC launches the fourth season of Project Runway Philippines with 15 new, up-and-coming designers who have come from all over the Philippines – from Cebu to Tuguegarao, Davao to Koronadal, Samar to Quezon City – in the hopes of becoming the next global Filipino designer to conquer international fashion.

Jose Joy Chicano is my personal favorite among the 15 designers, I loved his deconstructed white and black ensemble it already drew attention from the audience.

Supermodel and fashion icon Tweetie De Leon-Gonzalez returns to the runway as host and judge, describing the fourth season of Project Runway Philippines as unexpected, fun, and more cut-throat than ever.

Famed A-list designer Rajo Laurel returns to the judges’ seat with the aim to help produce a new breed of young designers who can make it both here and abroad by sharing his knowledge about the business side of fashion.

Fashion and beauty expert Apples Aberin returns with her no-holds-barred comments, expecting to see vision, technical skills, a unique point of view, and a whole lot of drama.

Fashion luminary and runway mentor Jojie Lloren returns to the show with one goal in mind – to find the best designer in the history of Project Runway Philippines. Working closely with this year’s contenders, Jojie reveals that this season is probably the most exciting one ever.

From the sewing room down to the runway, fun, drama, surprises, and tough challenges await as contestants have their skills scrutinized, their creativity challenged, and their sensibilities tested in the search for a designer who can make it to the top.

THE FLASH DASHES ON TO PHILIPPINE TELEVISION

From the creative team behind the smash hit series ARROW, comes THE FLASH, a fast-paced super hero drama that follows the high-speed escapades of the ‘fastest man alive’.

Set to premiere in the Philippines on October 8, the series will be made available to both free TV and cable viewers as it airs simultaneously on ETC and JackTV.

Written by Marc Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, THE FLASH narrates the story of Central City Police scientist Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), whose life is dramatically changed when he is involved in a devastating accident at the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator facility. Suddenly he finds himself charged with the incredible power to move at super human speeds.

After a close friend finds themselves in danger, Barry vows to use his newly developed abilities to help protect the people of Central City and stop the influx of villains – many of whom have also been altered by the particle accelerator explosion.

Starting Wednesday, October 8, THE FLASH will air the same day as the U.S. (within 6 hours of its U.S. premiere) via satellite at 3PM with a primetime telecast at 8PM on ETC and JackTV.

This love month, ETC premieres its newest drama that follows a pair of high school students and their epic, out of this world romance. Airing within a week of the U.S., Star-Crossed, starting February 21, Fridays at 8PM, is a futuristic love story between an alien and a human.

Featuring attractive young stars Matt Lanter (90210), Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights) and Grey Damon (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters), Star-Crossed looks at a relationship caught between two worlds, torn between two feuding sides.

After an alien spacecraft crash-lands in her small town, a 6-year old Emery Whitehill has an encounter with Roman, a 6-year old Atrian boy. Ten years later, Emery (Aimee Teegarden) and Roman (Matt Lanter) are reunited as the first group of Atrian teens enrolls in a human high school with the goal of testing the feasibility of human/alien integration.

Emery and Roman’s newly rekindled bond is immediately threatened by the small-mindedness of their respective communities. Roman’s Atrian friends, Teri (Chelsea Gilligan, Big Time Rush) and Drake (Greg Finley, The Secret Life of the American Teenager), openly distrust all humans. The human students are equally wary of the aliens, especially the school’s social queen, Taylor (Natalie Hall, Pretty Little Liars), who looks down on all Atrians – and most humans. Even good-hearted Grayson (Grey Damon), who is drawn to Emery, feels caught between the human and Atrian factions. Only two of Emery’s friends – Julia (Malese Jow, The Vampire Diaries) and Lukas (Titus Makin, Jr., Glee), seem able to accept Roman and the rest of the Atrians.

With the launch of American Idol XIII on ETC this January 16 and 17, Filipino audiences are introduced to a new batch of aspiring singers. November 21, 2013 - Solar Entertainment Corporation (SEC) announces a new channel assignment for its leading youth channel, ETC.  Starting November 30, 2013 ETC can be seen on UHF channel 21, Sky Cable and Destiny Digital Ch. 16, Global Destiny Ch. 28, Cignal Ch. 9, and Cable Link Ch. 34.

With the move, SEC has laid down plans to boost the reach of ETC to viewers. According to SEC’s Chief Technology Officer Ralph Joseph S. Roy, by early next year a new state-of-the-art analog/ digital 60KW transmitter will be built for the channel. Running at a higher capacity and with a higher elevation, this looks to boost ETC’s reach to viewers in Mega Manila by 30 percent. For the rest of the country transmitters will go up in key areas such as Bacolod, Cebu, Zamboanga, Davao, and Legazpi.

From Monday to Saturday, ETC offers viewers the hottest and latest shows and episode’s straight from the United States. Stay up to date in the world of entertainment with the channel’s vast lineup of Match-Airing titles that include: award-winning musical Glee, hilarious sitcom’s New Girl and Super Fun Night, supernatural drama’s The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Ravenswood, and Beauty and the Beast, and the colorful 80’s teen drama The Carrie Diaries.

This coming 2014 the channel is working on airing more of its popular series day and date with the U.S. just like the airing of its hit show Glee that ETC airs via satellite.

Adding to ETC’s Match-Airing line-up in January is the return of the mystery-thriller Pretty Little Liars, and the long-running reality singing-competition American Idol.  Also joining the channel in 2014 is the period drama Reign, which follows the early years of Mary, Queen of Scots, and the sci-fi romance drama Star-Crossed that tells the story of a relationship between a human girl and an alien boy. This coming  October 8 , 2013,  ETC rolls out new shows and new seasons all on one big night. Adding to its ever-growing line-up of Match-Airing programs is the hilarious sitcom Super Fun Night and supernatural drama The Originals. While returning for its fifth season is the fan favorite vampire drama The Vampire Diaries.

Have a “Super Fun Night” every Tuesday on ETC with Rebel Wilson. Premiering October 8 at 7:30pm, Wilson plays Kimmie Boubier, who for the last 13 years has lived a sheltered life with her two best friends and roommates, Helen-Alice (Liza Lapira) and Marika (Lauren Ash). However, when Kimmie receives a big promotion at the NYC law firm that she works at, she meets British attorney Richard Royce (Kevin Bishop), the son of the firm's senior partner. After mentioning that he likes girls with a “bit of chunk,” Kimmie cannot help but be attracted to the charming and handsome Richard. With Kimmie's life opening up to new possibilities, can she convince her best friends that life isn't just for the pretty and the popular, and that it's time that they started living life to the fullest?

Catch up with the residents of Mystic Falls as a new school year starts in The Vampire Diaries Season 5 starting October 8 at 8PM on ETC. After spending a passion-filled summer with Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Elena (Nina Dobrev) is ready for her first day at Whitmore College. Excited to move in to her dorm with best friends Caroline (Candice Accola) and Bonnie (Kat Graham), unknown to her, Bonnie is in fact dead, having sacrificed her own life to bring back Elena’s Brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen). The Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals premieres October 8, Tuesday at 10PM on ETC (regular timeslot every Saturday at 9PM). The series follows the original vampire-werewolf hybrid Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his original vampire Brother and Sister Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt), as they return to New Orleans, the city their family helped build 300 years ago. However, Klaus is about to learn that this is not the same city that he left behind. His former protégé Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) now has total control of the supernatural inhabitants of the city—a city that he once ruled. Meanwhile Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), a werewolf and Klaus’ onetime flame, also arrives in town but is taken hostage by a powerful witch named Sophie Deveraux (Daniella Pineda). After revealing some life-changing news to Klaus, Sophie bargains with him to do her bidding in return for Hayley’s life. Vowing to reclaim what was once his; Klaus is prepared to fight to take back the power, the city and his family.
