Edward Benosa "Puso Kong Ito" nominated for best Music Video

Looking at the PMPC Star Awards for Music’s line-up for this year’s Best Music Video category, one gets the conclusion that it is loaded with established singing stars, a famous actor, and a relatively new, yet fast-rising artist. The last is Edward Benosa whose music video for his third and latest single “Puso Kong Ito” was nominated alongside entries from the likes of Juris, Sam Concepcion, Vice Ganda, and Rivermaya.

The video, directed by the highly touted Carlo Obispo, is hard not to recognize, especially for its scenic images and carefully edited shots. It surely helped that Obispo is into high-grade film-making, giving the video that short film touch instead of just plain music clip.

It features a charming ballet dancer from Ballet Manila and projects Ed’s boy-next-door charm to the fore. The pop ballad, written by Vincent Velasquez, complements the video like creamer to coffee.

“It’s one of my favorite songs I recorded so far because I feel there’s something unique about it,” shared Edward who at the moment is also rehearsing for a musical he will be in called Mula Sa Buwan, slated to be staged in Ateneo University grounds this December.

Edward, first seen by the public as a StarStruck hopeful and later, that remarkable face at The Voice’s blind auditions, has quickly developed a strong fan base owing to his string of good releases and memorable exposures. His debut hit “Di Man Lang Nagpaalam” gave him a grand entrance of sort, while tracks like Iingatan Ko, Sa Piling Mo, and Paglisan strengthened his hold for that fast-growing lot of fans. In fact he already has an official Facebook account nicely named Ed Benosa Loyal Supporters.

Big thanks also to the support of his manager and collaborator, actor Arnold Reyes, who is himself a success story in the music scene almost by the snap of a finger. One time he thought of writing a song, joined Himig Handog and Levi Celerio songwriting contests, and both placed high enough to get everyone’s attention. He penned or helped for most of Edward’s songs.

In referring to his talent, Arnold directly stated, “I took him in kasi grabe ang vocal range niya. May puso siya kumanta, very emotional.”

Edward will be releasing his second album by February next year.

Last April, Edward delivered a 25th birthday concert for his fans at the Teatrino in Greenhills. That show was a proof he certainly deserved the Best New Male Recording Artist citation from Star Awards in 2015. The concert was called “Most Requested” in reference to his hit first single “Di Man Lang Nagpaalam”. He has been an in-demand act since.

His versions of Carol Banawa’s “Stay” and The Script’s “Breakeven” showcase his versatility as a singer, one of his strengths.

Edward has good words for the kind of great support he gets from fans and friends, “Ang sarap ng pakiramdam when you have supporters who truly care about you because they like you and your songs.”

Edward’s quick rise may be attributed to his determination to prove he could contribute. His next step is taking in acting jobs to see what he can do as an actor. He is set to appear in a film titled Bubog wherein he will play a policeman.

Showbiz fans are likely to use the term gwapulis for him as it can be recalled that Sarah Geronimo expressed regret, albeit in a cute way, for not turning her chair during Edward’s blind audition. Looks is always a plus for this half-Spanish mestizo, but he puts up a lot of work to complement that well with talent.

The Puso Kong Ito music video is made possible by Dannon Clothing. Edward Benosa’s steady rise to the top is largely a doing of his deep passion and care for audiences.

Edward Benosa surprises fans with his "Most Requested" concert

Edward Benosa is a versatile artist. That much he proved during his recent birthday concert, “Most Requested”, which turned out to be an evening full of surprises.

The first surprise was the set-up. Director Frank Lloyd Mamaril made such clever and imaginative use of the Teatrino’s very small stage. Every inch was maximized, such that there was even space for an LED screen, which enhanced the audience’s concert viewing experience. He complemented that with a well-chosen repertoire that made the most of Edward’s vocal strengths. The repertoire was varied: it went from the usual romantic pop ballads to acoustic numbers to rock-flavored hits that surprised the audience who didn’t realize Edward had it in him to do those kinds of songs.

But because the show’s title was “Most Requested”, the segment that really drew attention was the “Most Requested” medley that included “You Are So Beautiful”, “Chivalry is Dead”, “Crazy”, “The Scientist” and the current radio and fan favorite, Charlie Puth’s “One Call Away”. Edward’s version was easy on the ears and a crowd-pleaser. The audience sang along with him, since they were familiar with the song.

Also surprising were Edward’s guests, DJ Chacha and Morisette Amon. DJ Chacha made the audience sit up and take note of her musical ability when she did a duet with Edward of the OPM hit “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang.  Morissette, Edward’s co-star in the stage musical “Chuva Choo Choo” (which will reportedly have a repeat/extended run middle of this year) did a duet with him of “Sana Kahit Minsan”.

These two young voices are among the most promising of their generation, and they will definitely go places in today’s competitive music industry, either as solo artists or as a tandem.

But the night really belonged to Edward, who proved what a versatile artist he could be. Among the standout numbers were his performances of “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5 (it was part of his Maroon 5 medley) and rocker Bryan Adams’ “Summer of ‘69”. Edward also did a medley of Justin Bieber songs that included the mega-hit “Love Yourself”.

Also taking center stage were songs from Edward’s Star Music album. He performed several songs, including “Iingatan Ko”, and “Puso Kong Ito”. Of course, he couldn’t leave the venue that night without performing his biggest hit, “Di Man Lang Nagpaalam”. How appropriate indeed that he chose it to be his last song before he closed the show—or made “paalam”—to his very supportive audience that night which included members of his fan group, the Edward Benosa Loyal Supporters. Also beaming from the sidelines were members of Edward’s Star Music family headed by Roxy Liquigan, who has believed in Edward’s talent since Day One, and composers and record producers Jonathan Manalo and Rox Santos.

It seemed that all the songs in the repertoire were carefully chosen. His closing song (before the encore of “Di Man Lang Nagpaalam” was “Best Day of My Life” originally by American Authors, and indeed, that day, April 16, did turn out to be the best day of Edward’s life. It was the day that he stepped up to the challenge, joined the big leagues and proved that while still a newbie compared to othehr, more established artists that have been around for 10, 20, even 30 years, he definitely has what it takes to take the ball and roll with it. He can and will go on to build a flourishing career in the music business. He obviously has the potential and the vocal chops to do that. That much was clear that night, and will be even clearer in the months and years to come.

Edward Benosa celebrates birthday with "Most Requested" concert

On April 16, Romantic Pop Balladeer Edward Benosa marks an important milestone when he stages a birthday concert at the Teatrino in Greenhills.

The concert will be directed by Frank Lloyd Mamaril, with Marvin Querido as Musical Director. Edward’s special guests will be Morisette Amon and DJ Chacha of MOR 101.9.

Edward will perform a repertoire of mostly love songs, but will also showcase the other side of him when he takes on rock songs and musical genres he doesn’t usually perform. His director promises “a very intimate show” that will be a culmination and celebration of all the good things that have happened to Edward’s career in the past year.

Edward is nervous, but he’s ready to step into the spotlight. He knows it’s a big challenge, but he’s taking it on because he knows that if he succeeds in pulling it off, it will be another major step forward in his career and his bid to be known as a legitimate, full-fledged pop artist.

“Grabe ang pressure. Siyempre may pressure at kabado kasi first. First year ko in showbiz, tapos first concert. Pero pag natawid ko ito, ibang self-confidence ang makukuha ko dito.”

Edward’s manager, stage, TV and indie film actor Arnold Cruz Reyes, says they had been planning the show for some time, and that it was really part of their wish list for the Star Awards for Music 2015 Best New Artist. They spent several months planning and conceptualizing the show and fine-tuning the repertoire so they would have a show that they were sure the audience will enjoy.

Mamaril, who also directed the recent concerts of Matteo Guidicelli and Lani Misalucha, talks about their concept for the show.

“When we talked about the show, we wanted a follow through on Edward’s career. A lot of things have been happening to him for the last year and in that year, it has to have a culmination, which is this show. It’s all about what he can bring to the table in the industry. Teatrino is a venue where some of the best artists started and built their careers. So we want to place him in a venue kung saan siya symbolically pwede mag-start in the concert scene. We know he can pull it off.”

Mamaril believes that Edward is the complete package and thus, the time is ripe for him to have a solo concert.

“He is the artist na complete package. He has looks, can sing, can act. That’s rare. ‘Yun ang nakikita ko, that’s why we need this concert to happen. The success of Edward is the success of everyone.”

While preparing for the concert, they met people—both old and new supporters of Edward who were very excited about the show and couldn’t wait for it to happen.

Everyone behind the concert is confident all their hard work and preparation will come together on the show date—and they know Edward has what it takes to make it work.

And there are a lot of people who’ve been asking for Edward to have a show. Now is the right time, which explains why the concert is titled “Most Requested”.

“When we thought of the title, o sige, si Edward honestly di pa kilalang-kilala, but when you check social media, and listen to radio stations, ‘Ay siya pala ‘yon’. May gano’ng reaction.  Every time I introduce Edward, “Ah siya pala yung nasa parang pelikula na video’ or ‘Siya pala ‘yung kumanta ng ‘Di Man Lang Nagpaalam’. Kaya nasabi namin, ‘Sige na, gawin na natin ito.’”

Edward is also getting a lot of support from his recording company, Star Music, his sponsors (like Dannon Clothing), his supporters and his management.

The concert is brought to you by Dannon Clothing. In participation with Projects Unlimited Phil Inc., Spring Oil, Villa Victoria Inc.,JBC Food Corporation, and Multymedia Printers Inc. Special thanks to Fragrancia De Italia, Novu Hair, Cerchio Grill And Lounge, and Lancer's Hardware. Media partners are Mor 101.9 and Starstudio Magazine.

Edward Benosa to guest in Lani Misalucha's "Love Catcher" concert

This Valentine’s Day—on February 14 and 15, 2016 singer and recording artist Edward Benosa gets the biggest break of his career when he guests in the show of Lani Misalucha.

The show is titled “Love Catcher” and will be held at Resorts World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theatre for the benefit of the Cancer Alleviation Network on Care, Education and Rehabilitation (CANCER). It is directed by Frank Lloyd Mamaril (who has also worked with and directed Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli in their respective concerts) and will also feature the female trio Baihana with the world-famous Philippine Madrigal Singers. Mamaril directed Edward’s music video for “Di Man Lang Nagpaalam” which was nominated as Music Video of the Year in the Star Awards for Music last year.

Edward will be performing two songs: his hit “Di Man Lang Nagpaalam” and another OPM number. He doesn’t have a duet with Lani, but the mere honor of sharing the same stage with her is already a major thing for an upcoming artist like Edward. For him to be included in the concert lineup is definitely a big break.

“Malaking bagay po talaga,” acknowledges Edward. “Wala akong duet with her, pero sobrang sarap ng feeling na I’ll be on the same stage as The Nightingale. Para sa akin, isa siya sa pinakamagaling na babaeng singer. I’m really honored na makapag-perform sa concert niya. Di ko na-expect na now, sa ganito ka-early na stage ng career ko, na makapag-perform ako sa ganito kalaking singer natin.”

Edward first met Lani, who’s a label-mate in Star Music, when they performed in a show featuring Star Music talents at 19 East. Lani, being the biggest star, was the finale number. Edward recalls how starstruck he was when he met her backstage, in the dressing room. He couldn’t even say anything. All he could manage was to ask to have a picture taken with her.

Edward recalls how that first meeting went. “Starstruck ako. Tulala. Wala akong nasabi,” he laughs. “Na-intimidate at na-overwhelm ako, na ang saya. Isa siya (Lani) sa mga tinitingala ko. Sobrang blessed ako na makita siya, ma-meet at ngayon makasama sa concert. Sa ginagalawan namin na mundo, sobrang na-a-appreciate namin na mga baguhan ang tinitingala namin na artists at ang work na ginagawa nila.”

Newcomers like himself automatically become better artists when they work with people like Lani, which is why he is looking forward to sharing the stage with her this February. In the future, he hopes they will get the chance to do a duet, but until then, he will take what he can get and continue to improve himself so that when that big break comes, he will be ready.

For now, you can catch more of Edward and his music by following him on social media, at facebook.com/realedwardbenosa, @realbenosa on Twitter and realbenosa on Instagram.

Edward Benosa is moving forward in 2016

If youre in the process of moving on from a jilted relationship and would love to feel good after all the pain you have been through then its time to listen to Edward Benosa's album. From falling in love, to losing and moving on. The album and his carrier single "Di Man Lang Nagpaalam" which Id like to play on repeat,  calms and somewhat became therapeutic to some extent. Im not even going through a heartbreak, but I already had an LSS to "Di Man Lang Nagpaalam" so there goes.

I got to interview Edward Benosa last year of December, fresh from winning the PMPC Star Awards Music Best New Artist of the year, the singer's influences are Michael Bolton, Bruno Mars, from the local is Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano.  His carrier single official music video "Di Man Lang Nagpaalam" which uploaded to Youtube has garnered close to 1million up to this date.  This singer who has the looks and the voice is excited to enter showbiz if given the chance. He said he could do justice to a role based from what he has been through his life. But he have to ask for his manager's permission first, (from the actor and composer himself Arnold Reyes).

This year, another Edward Benosa presscon was held at Limbaga 77,  Sct Limbaga QC last January 8. The singer rendered a Bruno Mars original and his carrier single "Di Man Lang Nagpaalam" to the media. The heartthrob sang from the heart, that was his edge to other aspiring singers , his manager believed that he could go far given his talent and discipline. When asked for a song collaboration with today's roaster of singers, he would gladly love to pair with Sarah Geronimo or  Bamboo.

In 2015, Edward—most known for his hit song “Di Man Lang Nagpaalam” which made it to the country’s top music charts and won for him a loyal following—won two awards, one a Best New Artist trophy from the Star Awards for Music and another, from the MOR Awards of radio station 101.9FM. He sees these awards as an affirmation that he is in the right place, and that he should continue pushing forward with his career in 2016. “Sa isang nagsisimula na tulad ko, o kahit sinong nagsisimula, mabigyan ka ng Best New Artist of the year, parang enough reason na ‘yon na ipagpatuloy mo itong ginagawa mo. Susundan na kailangan, ipagpatuloy ang sinimulan,” he says.

Edward’s goal is to sustain the momentum of his achievements in 2016. He wants to get into new things, maybe do a concert, record another album and even try more theater.

He is making the phrase “moving forward” his goal for next year. He is happy that groups like the Philippine Movie Press Club (which is behind the annual Star Awards for Music) and MOR 101.9 have seen his potential and by giving him awards and recognition, are encouraging him to do more with what he has.

“Siguro nakikita ‘yung potential ko to be this person na malaki pa yung pwede ko ma-achieve as a singer, sa craft ko, na-a-appreciate nila na ako ‘yung bago ngayon, as a pop rock balladeer.”

His manager, stage and screen actor Arnold Cruz Reyes, believes that Edward will go pretty far in 2016. When Edward won the awards in 2015, he was surprised but says things aren’t going to stop there. There is much more for Edward to achieve in 2016.

Arnold says it is obvious that Edward, while a newbie singer and occasional actor, is meant to go places and encourages him only to work harder and pay attention to the advice of people who want to see him succeed even more next year. “Consistent naman kasi, na-nominate siya na Best New Artist of the Year. Nu’ng nangyari nga, sabi ko, ‘Uy nakakatuwa, napapansin tayo,” says Arnold, who’s hoping Edward will be able to build on his past achievements to have an even greater year in 2016.

Edward says that one way of ensuring a better year in 2016 is also to stay positive and not to mind the bashers and critics. Like when he won those two awards, there were people who didn’t think he deserved to win and asked: “Sino siya? Hindi namin siya kilala.”

He just wants to be positive going into 2016. Regardless of what people say, he will keep pressing forward. Even if there are critics, he says, he intends to see things constructively and make positivity his motto for next year.

He just wants to take everything in a positive light, criticism or not. He has a goal, and he knows what he has to do to get there. He will not let negative talk or criticism get in the way. “Kung meron man mang-bash, okay pa rin ‘yon, at least napag-uusapan pa rin,” says Edward. “Hindi naman maiiwasan ‘yung gano’n, kaya sabi ko, i-positivize na lang.”

Edward has high hopes for 2016. He is excited about all the new things coming his way, and is eager to get things started.

“Ang daming bonus ni God para sa akin,” he says with a big smile. Edward is grateful for all the things that happened in 2015, and is looking to make an even bigger splash in 2016.

Expect more from Edward Benosa in 2016

Based on how his 2015 turned out, singer Edward Benosa is looking forward to a really good year in 2016.

Edward Benosa finally gets his break with "Di Man Lang Nagpaalam"

"Madrama ang buhay ko, pedeng isapelikula ang mga pinagdaanan  ko" as told by up and coming Edward Benosa to the group of bloggers over lunch at the recent launch of his debut album at 77 Limbaga Restaurant last December 4.

It probably explains the melodic and sentimental flavor of his debut album with the carrier single "Di Man Lang Nagpaalam" under Star Music.

Edward, said he really had to work his way up to get recognized and make a name for himself in the cuttroat entertainment business. "Sumali ako sa starstruck then sa blind audition ng The Voice pero di ko pa yata time so tiis muna, work muna on developing my singing skills". His break came when  Arnold Reyes, his composer/manager agreed to help him with his album a dream project, and labor of love.

With less than a month to go before 2015 ends, it’s looking like a very good year for up-and-coming balladeer Edward Benosa.

In fact, 2015 is turning out to be his best year yet. This year, Edward scored two major victories with twin nominations, first, in the Best New Recording Artist category of the recent MOR awards, and second, in the Star Awards for Music of the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC). In the MOR Awards, he was up against both male and female artists (who fought it out in one category) that included eventual winner Morissette Amon, while in the Star Awards—where there were separate categories for male and female artists—he won over some heavy-hitting newcomers, including The Voice Kids runner-up Darren Espanto.

In the wake of his Star Awards victory, there were a few who questioned his winning, and some who asked, “Sino siya? Di namin siya kilala.” But the reactions were generally positive, and Edward has just happily moved on.

Edward had attempted a professional singing career before, even trying out for the premier season of The Voice of the Philippines, but only started taking it really seriously less than a year ago.

He signed with Star Music, and released his debut album produced by his manager and discoverer, stage and indie film actor Arnold Reyes, with the carrier single, “Di Man Lang Nagpaalam”, a song about a loved one who leaves without even saying goodbye. The touching ballad found an audience and topped several radio countdowns and sales charts nationwide, making Edward a household name. He also gained a following, called the Edward Benosa Loyal Supporters.

He is relatively young in the music business, so for him to earn those two nominations, have an album and a hit song in so short a time is nothing short of a miracle.

But winning his first award in the span of only nine months was the most memorable and incredible thing to happen to him this year.

Sometimes even he can’t believe it. The night of the award ceremony, he went there, not expecting anything. He honestly did not see himself winning because he felt he was too much of a newbie, and had no right to do so. So when his name was called, Edward was shocked, and when he got onstage, he forgot to thank so many people, including his manager.

“Di ko talaga in-expect. Sobra akong nagulat, sobrang surprised,” he says.

Another achievement of Edward in 2015 was appearing in his first stage musical, Chuva Choo Choo, inspired by the music of multi-awarded songwriter and record producer Vehnee Saturno. He played the love interest of Morissette Amon and also co-starred with former Miss Saigon star and stage veteran Joanna Ampil. The musical produced by STAGES will have an extended run in mid-2016.

Being given all these opportunities to stretch himself and his craft make Edward feel that this is where he was meant to be.

Now, he says, he is really serious about wanting to build a career as a singer, songwriter and performer.

Edward is thankful for all the blessings and breaks he’s been getting—and the timing, with the holidays just around the corner—couldn’t be better.“Napaka-gandang Christmas gift ng taon na ito, ang gandang bonus galing kay Lord,” reflects Edward.

So now, the game plan is just for him to keep moving forward. He dreams of releasing a second album, and maybe even staging a concert in 2016, as a way of giving back and thanking all his friends (he prefers not to call them ‘fans’, but friends) for their support.

There is so much ahead of him as 2016 approaches, and Edward is excited to experience everything.
