Revolutionizing Healthcare: mWell Launches Nation’s First Digital Health ID

mWell, the digital healthcare arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), officially launched the mWell Health ID, the country’s first fully digital health identity designed to enable Filipinos tocarry their complete personal health records in their pocket

Accessible via the mWell app, the Health ID serves as a secure digital passport containing personal health records, lab results, prescriptions, vaccination records, emergency contacts, and other vital health information. It offers built-in consent and privacy controls, allowing patients to easily share their records with doctors, hospitals, and partner clinics without the hassle of paperwork.

mWell Chairman and MPIC Chairman, President and CEO Manny V. Pangilinan and Chaye Cabal-Revilla,

mWell President&CEO and MPIC Chief Finance, Risk and Sustainability Officer

“Healthcare is a basic human right,” said mWell Chairman and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation Chairman, President and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan. "The mWell Health ID is a crucial step towards universal healthcare, which envisions allowing all Filipinos to move through their health journeys with security and peace of mind," Pangilinan added.

We are honored to enable a transformative milestone in healthcare for the Philippines. Our mWell digital Health ID empowers patients with a secure, seamless, and privacy-first way to manage their health records across healthcare facilities. This innovation directly addresses the pain points of our citizens by driving accessibility, efficiency, and collaboration in our healthcare system,” said Chaye Cabal-Revilla, President and CEO of mWell and Chief Finance, Risk, and Sustainability Officer of MPIC. Our goal is to build a future where care is reliable, data-driven, and always within reach. The digital Health ID opens a new chapter for Philippine healthcare as it represents a shift toward empowering patients and building a healthier, more connected nation.

With the digital Health ID, patients can register more quickly at partner clinics and hospitals, eliminating the need to repeatedly fill out forms. Their medical history, including past diagnoses, prescriptions, lab results, and allergies, becomes accessible across different health facilities, making care more seamless within the mWell ecosystem. This portability helps reduce duplicate testing and ensures that doctors can make informed decisions based on complete and up-to-date information.

“Interoperability of health records has always been one of the biggest challenges in our healthcare system,” said Dr. Raymond Sarmiento, Chief Operating Officer of mWell. “By putting health records in the hands of every Filipino, we create stronger connections between patients and providersThe Health ID is a secure and patient-centered solution that strengthens the health system by making medical data portable, reliable, and truly useful to patients.

Bringing the Universal Health Care Act to life

The launch of the Health ID supports the vision of the Universal Health Care Act (Republic Act 11223), which seeks to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable for all. By enabling secure and seamlessdata sharingit directly addresses one of the healthcare system’s biggest gaps: the lack of coordination caused by paper-based files and a fragmented patient record system.

Expanding healthcare access across the country

With the acquisition and integration of KonsultaMDmWell has become the Philippines’ leading digital health platform. Through the mWell app, patients can consult virtually with doctors 24/7, receive e-prescriptions and lab referrals and share their records with healthcare providers as needed. Thousands of primary care doctors and specialists nationwide are available for teleconsultation, sparing patients, including seniors, persons with disability, and those in Indigenous and geographically isolated communities, from long and costly trips to hospitals and clinics.

With mWell's digital Health ID, patients can forego filling out registration forms and proceed to have a seamless experience, whether it is for consultation or laboratory services, at the mWellPrimary Care Facility in Bacoor, Cavite.

As a fully integrated healthcare ecosystem, mWell also offers the mWellHealthSuite to bring digital management systems to hospitals and clinics, provide appointment booking via HealthHub and even

on-site care at the Primary Care Facility in Bacoor, Cavite.

In partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), mWell has also deployed the mWell OnTheGoClinic-In-A-Bag to remote communities, bedridden patients, Indigenous Peoples, and soldiers in conflict areas. To complement this, mWell introduced drone medicine delivery to isolated islands and launched BangkaHealth, which brings telemedicine to houses on stilts in Sulu via small boats. These initiatives extend mWell’s reach to some of the most underserved and hardest-to-access communities in the country.

As part of the MPIC Group, mWell is committed to working towards the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. It also supports the MVP Group’s Gabay Kalusugan advocacy focusing on quality and affordable healthcare.

A Mom’s Wake-Up Call: Why I’m Talking to My Kids About HIV—Today

Did you know that as early as 15 years old, a kid can already test positive for HIV?

Let that sink in.

I’m a mother. I pack lunches, remind my kids to drink their vitamins, and panic over fever spikes. I thought I had the big threats figured out—dengue, COVID, even screen time addiction. But HIV? At 14? That was never on my radar. Until now.

 The Wake-Up Moment

I attended a health forum recently, where I learned something that shook me: more than 50 Filipinos are diagnosed with HIV every day, and a growing number of them are teens. Yes, teenagers. Not adults living recklessly, not a world away—but kids, close to home.

And suddenly, I couldn’t stop thinking about my grandson. He's 13, tall for his age, already asking about dating. My grand daughter? Eleven, but curious about everything. I realized I had a choice—to shy away from the tough talks, or step up before it’s too late.

HIV Self-Testing: The New Reality

One of the biggest developments I learned about was the Mylan HIV Self Test. It’s a small kit you can use at home, discreetly, with results in 15 minutes. No awkward clinics, no judgment. Just you, your child (if they’re ready), and knowledge that could save a life.

Now, don’t get me wrong—I'm not saying hand it to your kids like a snack pack. But what if one day, they want to know? What if they’re scared to ask? What if they think they’ve done something risky and don’t know where to turn?

That’s where the power of access and open communication comes in.

 Real Talk, Not Shame Talk

Let’s be honest, in many Filipino households, sex is a secret, and HIV is something whispered about—if it’s ever mentioned at all. But silence doesn’t protect our children. Education does. Empathy does.

I’m choosing to raise my kids with the facts, not fear.
I tell them: “Your body is yours, and your health is sacred.”
I remind them: “If you’re ever unsure, I’m here. We’ll figure it out together.”

And now, thanks to KonsultaMD, I also know they can talk to a doctor anytime. No need to book appointments or brave hospital queues. Just open the app and talk. Ask anything—from how HIV is transmitted, to what to do if you think you’ve been exposed. No shame. Just help.

🛒 Where Can You Get the Kit?

The Mylan HIV Self Test is now available at Southstar Drugstores and through other partner providers. If your teen is of age and wants to know their status in private, this kit makes it possible—accurate, affordable, and anonymous.

And when you’re ready for next steps, KonsultaMD is there, with licensed doctors who understand, listen, and guide.

As a Mom, Here’s What I Know:

I may not be able to protect my kids from everything. But I can give them the tools to protect themselves.
I can create a home where hard questions are welcomed, not punished.
I can choose to inform, not ignore.

Because HIV doesn’t wait until adulthood.
It doesn’t check your report card or care if your curfew is 8 PM.

But we, as parents, can be smarter. We can talk, listen, test, support.
We can be the difference between fear and early intervention.
Between silence and survival.

If you’re reading this and feeling a bit panicked like I was—good. It means you care. Start the conversation. Ask the questions. Protect your kids with knowledge, love, and access.

And maybe one day, they’ll thank you for being brave enough to have “that talk.”
