Gringo Honasan – for Equality, for Progress, for Vice President

United Nationalist Alliance Vice Presidential candidate Gregorio “Gringo”Honasan II hits the campaign trail today with the battle cry “Patasang Laban,” and armed with almost 40 years of experience both as part of the military and as a member of the Philippine Senate.


His platform of government complements UNA standard-bearer VP Jejomar Binay’s “Gaganda ang Buhay” that when combined means EQUALITY leads to BETTER LIVES.

Senator Honasan is an advocate Pro-Poor Governance & Ideology by integrating poverty reduction, respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms to allow people to live with dignity.

“The key to progress is to adopt economic and social policies that are responsive to the people’s needs, while holding decision makers accountable to the people and make them adhere to the rule of Law,” he said of his platform of government.

“We need to harness our natural resources to ensure sustainable development, maximize the potential of an empowered citizenry, and the economic impact of the business sector, to attain the liberalization of the less fortunate citizens from poverty and unconscionable inequality,” Senator Honasan added.

Senator Honasan has fought for a lot of different causes throughout his life—17 years as a soldier, 7 years as a rebel and 21 years as a Senator, but the one thing that has remained constant is his guiding principle for God, Country and Family.

As a soldier, Senator Honasan gallantly fought for democracy earning him a number of medals, awards, decorations and commendations for gallantry in action including three Distinguished Conduct Stars, Gold Cross medals and Wounded Personnel Medals sustained in combat. In 1985, he was recognized as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men given by the Philippine Jaycees.

In 1986, Honasan was one of the young leaders who broke away from the martial law government and led his troops to ignite the EDSA revolution.

In 1995, SenatorHonasanran for office as the first truly independent candidate in Philippine political history to win a Senate seat.  He was re-elected in 2001, 2007 and recently in 2013.

Achievements And Accomplishments
He is principal author and co-author of, among others, the Clean Air Act of 1999, Clean Water Act, the National Security Policy, Disaster Risk Reduction Management Act of 2009, the Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms Law (CARPER). He is shepherding the Freedom of Information Act which he now refers to as the POGI Bill – People’s Ownership of Government Information Act, the National Mapping and Resource Authority Law and the Land Use Act.

Senator Honasan has proposed a Mini-Marshall Plan for Mindanao to help jumpstart economic development, peace and order, and political unity. The proposal will also help end centuries of armed conflict and terrorism.

To date, he has sponsored over 200 Medical-Dental-Surgical Missions in depressed areas of the country, serving at least 20,000 indigent patients.

He is a prime mover of the National Security Strategy Framework which seeks to define the country’s national security and strategy in the light of internal and external security threats and the consequent National Peace Policy.

Sponsored the computer education scholarship of 3,000 students thru the SulongDunongsaKaunlaran program and the college scholarship of 106 out-of-school youths.

Under the Gregorio B. Honasan Peace and Development Foundation, he regularly distributes relief assistance to calamity-hit areas in the country.

Served thousands of constituents requesting for claims for PVAO, SSS and AFP/PNP claims and refund of teachers’ loans through his Public Service Program aired over RMN-DZXL and DZRH-Radyo Natin and Gringo Honasan Reports aired over RPN-9 and PTV-4.

Dakota Johnson is back in "How to Be Single"

To those who have seen "Fifty Shades of Grey", Dakota Harrison has become one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars after landing the coveted role of Anastasia Steele in the box office record for which she received a BAFTA Rising Star Award nomination.

Now, Dakota Johnson headlines New Line Cinema's romantic comedy “How to Be Single,” based on the book by Liz Tucillo (TV’s “Sex & the City”). Also starring Rebel Wilson and Leslie Mann, the film follows a host of singles at various stages of—and with varying opinions on—the single state.

Returning to her comedy roots, Johnson deftly handles her character, Alice’s fumbling attempts to meet men upon finding herself newly single, especially when paired with Rebel Wilson’s extreme party girl, Robin, the perfect tour guide through the world of free drinks, hook-ups and text message protocol.

Just out of college, Alice is worried she’s missing out—on what, she’s not quite sure, but taking a “break” from longtime boyfriend Josh in order to make sure he’s the one is the right thing to do…isn’t it?

“How to Be Single” takes us along with Alice as she ventures into a new job, a new city—New York—a newly unattached life, and all that goes along with it. Johnson says, “I loved how believable the story was—we’ve all been that person who is stumbling through, trying to figure things out.”
Screenwriter Dana Fox, who worked with Johnson previously, was happy to see the actress go back to a comedic role after several more dramatic parts. “Dakota is just naturally talented, especially when it comes to comedy, both physical and verbal,” she states. “As a writer, it’s such a pleasure for me to work with her again, because nothing comes out feeling ‘written.’”

When we first meet her character, Johnson observes, “She is sort of this doe-eyed, curious young woman starting college. She meets a boy right away and is quickly in a comfortable and nurturing relationship.”

Fast forward four years. “Like so many of us, Alice has always depended on someone, whether it’s her parents, her sister or her boyfriend. Suddenly, she has this profound moment of realization and forces herself into what she thinks is an awakening, but which is really just a break up,” the actress acknowledges. “But taking a break turns into a total explosion of life as she knows it, and now she has to figure out how to handle it.”

After persuading her very serious boyfriend she needs to experiment with being on her own, Alice heads to Manhattan to start a new job as a paralegal. “Right away, she falls into the hands of Robin, who’s kind of insane,” Johnson laughs. “Alice has been sheltered and established a lot of boundaries for herself; Robin has zero boundaries and doesn’t care what anyone else thinks of her, so long as she’s having fun.”

The role of Alice required a convincing amount of girl-next-door naiveté in order for moviegoers to slip into her shoes, or at least remember a time when they did. Director Christian Ditter found Johnson to be “absolutely gorgeous but at the same time completely relatable. She’s talented and gives a very authentic performance, which makes it easy for the audience to see themselves in her place. She grounds the story for all the other characters, who are much more outrageous.”

Top Pastry Chefs mentor the 10th Goldilocks Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge

 There are so many occasions that call for celebrations, so many rites of passage that require “something special” like birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, engagements, weddings, showers, new jobs, retirements, and more.  A homemade, home-baked, and handcrafted cake somehow makes these events feel even more joyful, but since most of us moms  dont have time to bake them cakes, and in my case I dont have the knowledge to bake one or even decorate with icings and all the trimmings, I might leave that to the professional or to the hobby baker- a person who bakes for the love of baking as a hobby.

Last Feb 4, I, together with selected blogger friends had our fair share of decorating a cake at Goldilocks Shaw Blvd branch.  It requires a lot of techniques, creative ideas, a fork, spoon, pastry bag, and colorful flavored frostings to make up a delicious looking edible cake. Cake toppings are a simple way to add texture and polish to cover up a less-than-perfect frosting job, that I learned during the cake decorating session.

Exactly ten years ago, when Goldilocks was celebrating its 40th anniversary, the country’s number one bakeshop decided to launch a truly innovative competition to highlight the artistry involved in cake decorating. Dubbed as the “Goldilocks Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge (ICDC),” it has since grown to become a nationwide activity that is highly anticipated by both participating schools and audiences  alike

The format of the ICDC is unlike most baking events: it isn’t a staid demonstration, a submit-display and-judge setup, or anything of the sort. it is an exciting extemporaneous competition that requires not only familiarity with techniques; but a definite originality and creativity to set the winning team apart. On contest day, ten teams share one stage and one central supply bin. They decorate their cakes within a given time frame, based on themes that are revealed to them at that very moment. This is all done in front of a live audience and a panel of judges composed of the leading authorities in the culinary arts industry.

This year, almost one hundred schools from far and wide submitted their entries in hopes of being chosen as one of the ten finalists. Aside from the obvious distinction and the opportunity to pit themselves against the best and brightest of their peers, the winning school will receive a baking showcase worth a quarter of a million pesos, while the team itself will receive P20,000 in Goldilocks gift certificates.

After a comprehensive round of judging, the ten qualifiers are Calayan Educational Foundation, Colegio de San Lorenzo, DMCI College Foundation Dipolog, Far Eastern University, Lyceum of the Philippines Laguna, Lyceum Subic Bay, Pangasinan State University, Saint Anne College of Lucena, Trinity University of Asia, and the Western Institute of Technology lloilo.

Given that 2016 marks a milestone for the ICDC, however, the country’s number bakeshop has something considerably more demanding in store for the talented participants. “This is the 10th year of the ICDC, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Goldilocks,” explained Goldilocks Marketing Director Cherry Caluya. “Because of this, we’ve decided to add some major twists. In fact, we’re calling this year’s competition ‘ICDC Xtreme’,” she noted.

While these new elements (understandably) cannot be revealed, they are obviously challenging enough to warrant expert supervision. As such, Goldilocks has enlisted the help of ten of the country’s top pastry chefs to guide a randomly chosen team in the lead up to competition day.

Pixie Seville (Far Easlem University), and Buddy Trinidad (Colegio de San Lorenzo) have been tapped to provide high-level, hands-on mentorship to the participating students.

“Having these renowned chefs on board early on will allow the students to learn from the best and most experienced professionals in the industry"  Caluya pointed out. “it‘s also worthwhile to note that every region is represented -— North and South Luzon, the NCR, Visayas, and Mindanao,” she concluded.

The 10th Goldilocks Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge will be held on February 25, 2016 at SM North Edsa’s The Block Activity Center.
