During this month-long event, we recognize the achievements made by notable Filipinas and women worldwide, as well as the steps they have taken to promote change and raise awareness for issues that truly matter.

In recent years, social media has become a platform for many of these empowered ladies to spread their advocacies. Through this, they have found a way to get their messages across to a wider range of people. Social media has also allowed them to build and nurture online communities that uplift and provide support for other women all around the globe.

Indeed, there is no limit to what an empowered woman is capable of doing. This Women’s Month, in honor of all the strong, inspirational females we look up to, we’ve rounded up some of the best videos from empowered women on TikTok. Check them out to see the many qualities that make these women absolutely amazing.

Confidence is power
One common trait possessed by every powerful woman is confidence. Having a strong sense of self, and faith in their own abilities enables these women to rise up and pursue their dreams. Two stellar examples of women of confidence are Zozibini Tunzi and Catriona Grey, who have both worn the crown of Miss Universe.

Being beautiful inside and out, their self-assurance shines through as a perfect complement to their physical beauty. These women are queens in their own right, who have used their time in the spotlight to break boundaries, and advocate for equality, inclusion, and women’s rights.

An empowered woman embraces her quirks
There is beauty in imperfection, and a woman who is able to embrace her quirks can definitely be considered empowered. A positive attitude like this can uplift others, and inspire them to accept and love themselves as they are.

Local celebrities like Jodi Sta. Maria, Bela Padilla and Isabelle Daza are not afraid to show their quirky self online, making them more relatable and endearing to their followers. Their videos on TikTok show that these women have the ability to not take things too seriously, and remember to enjoy life amidst any challenges they might face.

A talented woman is an empowered one
When people use their talents for good, they are able to make an impact on others, touch lives, and even drive positive change. We see this clearly in actors, musicians, athletes, and personalities who have gained global recognition in what they do, and are considered to be role models. These empowered individuals help shape the future by inspiring the youth to aim high and reach for the stars.

Two examples of empowered and talented individuals are artists, Donnalyn Bartolome and Alicia Keys. Their music has made waves in the local scene and abroad, and both women are true icons who bring joy to their fans.

SAVOR MAX’S ALL-TIME FAVORITE CHICKEN, NOW IN A SANDWICH

The classic Max’s fried chicken is undoubtedly well-loved by Filipinos across all generations. Although, not a lot of people know that the truly original way that this Filipino classic was first consumed all the way back in 1945 was with fresh, hot rolls on the side. As a throwback to its roots, you can now treat your taste buds to a Sarap-In-A-Bun chicken sandwich.

What’s inside? A filleted version of Max’s iconic juicy, no-frills fried chicken seasoned and spiced the signature Max’s way. Now, it wouldn’t be a true Max’s experience without the trademark blend of banana ketchup and Worcestershire sauce, and that’s what’s drizzled over the chicken meat to add tang. Pickled cucumbers and shredded cabbage are then generously spread from top to bottom in between two buttery brioche buns to complete this flavorful and filling experience.

“Creatively re-engineering our Sarap-To-The-BonesÒ fried chicken to a sandwich puts us forward in providing our customers with more delightful ways to feast over classic local dishes that have stood the test of time,” says Max’s Restaurant Head Culinary R&D Chef Adrian Azurin. “It’s Sarap-In-A-Bun, literally, with our hero fried chicken, now in a format that’s perfect for today’s adventurous, mobile consumers. We specially curated the blend of banana ketchup and Worcestershire sauce to stay true to the authentic Max’s experience. The pickled cucumbers are not something usually associated with our fried chicken, but we love how their tartness makes each bit surprisingly fresh and zesty.”

With the new Max’s fried chicken sandwich, you’ll be surprised by just how filling one bite can be. It’s also served with a side of Max’s sweet potato fries and a garlic mayo dip, making it even more satisfying for every diner’s appetites.

“Just one plate is an explosion of flavors. We’re proud to turn an everyday snack into every diner’s main course with the perfect meat-to-bun ratio, and toppings and condiments that make the whole dish shine,” adds Chef Adrian.

For 75 years, Max’s has continuously catered to the changing appetites of its diners with its product innovations, while also staying true to its culinary heritage built on Filipino values.

“Since 1945, Max’s has become the tradition and institution that it’s known to be now because of our founders Maximo Gimenez and Ruby Trota’s humble beginnings of befriending American occupation troops stationed in Quezon City and serving our Sarap-To-The-BonesÒ fried chicken with hot, fresh dinner rolls,” says Max’s Restaurant Marketing Director Mark De Joya. “Our new fried chicken sandwich is a loving, respectful tribute to that. We believe this demonstrates the ability of our brand to balance both its history and heritage with new formats, flavors, and experiences that make Max’s forever relevant across generations.”

Indeed, everyone will come running to their nearest store and savor a massive bite of Max’s Fried Chicken Sandwich, available starting March 9 for only PHP249.

TikTok #HandwashingMove dance challenge informs COVID-19 Prevention

Dance challenges on TikTok has proven once again that it has the power to go viral--- or fight a virus in this case. Users of the platform in Vietnam are spreading awareness on the prevention of COVID-19 with the hashtag challenges #handwashingmove and #ghencovychallenge. As of writing, the challenge already has 18.1M views and 2.4M views respectively.

One of Vietnam’s popular dancers, Quang Dang, choreographed the #handwashingmove
with six handwashing moves based on the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO) to prevent the spread of diseases.

The dance easily gained popularity with the help of the catchy song “Ghen Co Vy” (a song under communication project by Vietnam’s Ministry of Health) which literally translated as “Jealous Coronavirus”. The virus will surely be jealous as the dance even earned the approval of host and comedian John Oliver on his show Last Week Tonight.

"It absolutely slaps! That's a genuine club-banger right there!,” commented Oliver.

#handwashingmove and #ghencovychallenge mark another #TikTokforGood effort to spread useful and correct information to the community. Not only an act to raise awareness about healthcare habits, the challenges also deliver TikTok’s optimistic spirit in the fight against COVID-19 epidemic. The platform will be present as a worldwide trustworthy, helpful yet joyful information channel for the public during this serious period.

“Simple knowledge of disease prevention such as keeping warm, wearing medical masks or washing hands properly are basic practices that everyone needs to acquire. With the advantage in technology and the diverse in background music, TikTok will contribute in equipping users with these useful information and skills, encouraging each person to protect their health, as well as their family and the community”, said Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh - Head of Public Policy, TikTok Vietnam.

“I believe that dancing to lively music is the best way to remember properly healthcare knowledge, such as 6 steps of washing hands. I hope #handwashingmove, along with many other healthcare tips delivered through short videos in this campaign will be helpful and cheerful for all users”, said dancer Quang Dang.

Netflix and UN Women launch special collection curated by 55 groundbreaking women in entertainment

Netflix and UN Women today launched Because She Watched- a special Netflix collection of series, documentaries, and films to celebrate International Women’s Day. The collection, which will be available all year, is curated by female creators from behind and in front of the camera - including Sophia Loren, Janet Mock, Salma Hayek, Yalitza Aparicio, Millie Bobby Brown, Laurie Nunn, Lana Condor, Petra Costa and Ava DuVernay.

“This collaboration is about taking on the challenge of telling women’s stories and showing women in all their diversity. It’s about making visible the invisible, and proving that only by fully representing and including women on screen, behind-the-camera and in our narratives overall, society will truly flourish,” said Anita Bhatia, UN Women Deputy Executive Director.

Created for International Women’s Day, whose official theme this year is “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights,” the collection celebrates the stories that have inspired the women who inspire us. These series, films and documentaries - Unbelievable, Luna Nera and Followers to Orange Is the New Black, Lionheart and Sex Education - have started important, often hard, conversations that have helped to challenge the way we see the world.

“Having a world where everyone is truly represented is about true democracy. And truly seeing ourselves allows us to envision endless possibilities for ourselves and each other”, said actress Laverne Cox. “Orange Is the New Blackis the first project where I felt genuinely empowered as a woman thanks to the woman at the helm of the show, Jenji Kohan, and the many women directors, writers, producers, and crew members as well as the stories that centered diverse women in an unprecedented way. This show created a space and platform for me as a black openly trans woman that created space for other openly trans women of all races to be truly seen in the depth of our humanity”.

The collection is available at Netflix.com/BecauseSheWatched - or by searching “Because She Watched” on Netflix. Every title in the collection will be labeled “XXXX’s Women’s Day Pick” so members can easily see who picked which story. In addition, members will be able to choose from a selection of “Because She Watched” profile icons to celebrate their favorite female characters from the collection.

“TV and film have the power to reflect and shape popular culture, which is why we believe it's so important that more people see their lives reflected in storytelling”, said Dr. Stacy L. Smith, Founder of the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative. “Our research has shown that inclusion behind the camera leads to greater inclusion on screen. We're encouraged that last year, 20% of the directors of Netflix original films were women and we are excited to celebrate these female creators on International Women's Day. There's still more to do to reach equality, but by recognizing female talent from around the world, we hope more women will feel encouraged to tell their stories, pushing that number even higher.”

UN Women and Netflix’s partnership in support of the  Generation Equality campaign comes on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, recognized as a visionary agenda for women's rights. We hope that it will spread the message that realizing women’s rights means putting women front and center to achieve gender equality.

SkinWhite MoistureWhite: Perfect for Summer

Now that summer ➔ is here, everyone is gearing up for an out of town vacation with family and friends,  hitting the beach or the nearest private pool to take solace from the heat.

Dont let the prickly heat and harsh rays of the sun spoil your summer vacation with your family and friends. Here are sound advice to get you summer-ready:

Always wear your sun block and moisturizers when going outside.

We tend to lose plenty of fluids during summer, so dont forget to take your bottled water with you, just because keeping our skin hydrated is as important as rehydrating our bodies.

Use your daytime and night moisturizers, it can help seal the moisture which is lost due to sweating.

Moisturizers with sun protection and antioxidants are perfect for summer dry skin.  I have dry skin and it can get even drier in the summer.

Im glad that SkinWhite launches the MoistureWhite body lotion with Hyaluronic Acid (HA) + SPF 16.

Hyaluronic acid also known as hyaluronan is a clear, gooey substance that is naturally produced by our body.
Its main function is to retain water to keep your tissues well lubricated and moist.

The new SkinWhite MoistureWhite lotion takes a massive leap towards beautiful skin because it combines a time-proven whitening formula with the breakthrough ingredient Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a moisture booster popularly found in Korean skincare products.

Check out why the following benefits your skin can gain by using SkinWhite MoistureWhite Lotion!

1. It will help you achieve whiter skin by lavishing it with much needed moisturization through HA.

SkinWhite MoistureWhite is enriched with Hyaluronic Acid (HA)—a natural ingredient that’s clinically proven to deliver deep moisturization immediately, being able to retain its weight in water up to 1000x. So that when light hits moisturized skin, it will appear even and whiter. HA acts as a magnet that attracts and locks in moisture for a fair and glowing complexion. With HA in every bottle of MoistureWhite Lotion, you’re sure to get moisturized-white skin!

2. It has the sun protection you need.

SkinWhite MoistureWhite is also equipped with SPF 16. This means aside from shielding your skin from the sun’s harmful rays, it also keeps your skin fairer as it successfully blocks out the darkening effects of sun exposure.

3. SkinWhite MoistureWhite doesn’t feel sticky on the skin.

SkinWhite MoistureWhite lotion is made with a non-sticky formula so you can now have moisturized white skin every day without the sticky feeling you hate!

4. Comes in soap format, too!

Your skin will feel and look even better when you also use SkinWhite MoistureWhite soap.

That’s because HA will not dry out your skin every time you bathe. By using MoistureWhite soap and MoistureWhite lotion daily, your skin will be moisturized-white all day!

Magsinadya kita! Phoenix joins Visayan revelry

In its vision to be an indispensable partner in the lives of all Filipinos, Phoenix Petroleum kicked off 2020 by participating in three of the most renowned and sought-after festivals in the Visayas region—the Sinulog in Cebu, Ati-Atihan in Aklan, and Dinagyang in Iloilo.

In the Queen City of the South, Grab drivers under the Phoenix Tsuper Club enjoyed big discounts on lubricants and P500 worth of fuel products as a welcome gift at the Banilad and B. Rodriguez retail stations. Regular motorists also enjoyed five-peso and two-peso discount per liter of gasoline and diesel products, respectively, at six participating stations within Cebu City for four days during the Sinulog festival.

Phoenix SUPER LPG, meanwhile, held a series of activations in various communities where homeowners were able to swap their current LPG cylinders for new, filled-up Phoenix SUPER LPG tanks.

Cebuanos are no different from other Filipinos in their love for flashy and fast automobiles, and they had their fix with a two-day Bumper2Bumper car show sponsored by Phoenix PULSE and Phoenix Lubricant brands Accelerate, Zoelo and Cyclomax.

Phoenix also supported the much-anticipated Baladhay Music Festival, where audience members were invited to the Phoenix PULSE booth to score exclusive Sinulog items as they shared their social media photos with the @phoenixfuels account and used the hashtags #ComeAliveWithPhoenixPulse and #Sinulog2020. Food kiosks at the festival utilizing Phoenix SUPER LPG gave revelers a taste of its safe, sigurado, simple cooking experience.

To cap off its celebrations in Cebu, Phoenix participated in the Grand Sinulog Parade with special celebrity guest Joross Gamboa, giving away Phoenix SUPER LPG items to inspire Cebuanos to level up their cooking experience at home.

In Aklan and Iloilo, Phoenix similarly made its presence felt in the annual Ati-Atihan and Dinagyang festivals, respectively, by bannering Phoenix SUPER LPG premium items and giving away free Phoenix SUPER LPG tanks. An exclusive stove set promo with Phoenix SUPER LPG and hose plus SRG regulator encouraged locals to try out this more economical yet value-laden alternative to their usual LPG brands.

Phoenix’s participation in these iconic festivals not only pays homage to the value of regional pride, having started out as a homegrown enterprise in Davao City, but also shows how the Philippines is a nation of rich diversity. Filipinos from all walks of life can definitely look forward to Phoenix being a big part of their local celebrations, wherever they may be.
