Tecno Mobile Pouvoir 4 Review: More Power for the People

One of the first things I always consider when buying a new smartphone is the battery (next only to its looks and camera).  I always take into consideration the battery life, for I am always using my phone most for work in the morning and for binge-watching my favorite movies and series before bedtime. I think the only time I put down my phone is when I go to sleep.

Last week, I got an email for another smart phone review. Now I’m not much of a techie, but getting the chance to try out new phones always gets me excited. This time its for a new smartphone brand called Tecno Mobile and the phone they were sending over was the Pouvoir 4 brand.

Coincidentally, I was watching Emily In Paris when I saw the email so I immediately searched for the meaning of Pouvoir. It sounded French and I was right! Pouvoir is indeed the French word for power, and that’s exactly what this phone was all about.

#ENERGYKING

The Pouvoir 4 comes in three colors, Cosmic Shine, Ice Jadeite, and true to its name it was indeed a Fascinating Purple hue. I also love the color design as it easily stands out with its glossy finish.

Tecno Mobile calls the Pouvoir 4 their #EnergyKing because it packs a huge 6,000 mAh battery! But that isn’t the only thing big about the Pouvoir 4 as it also has a big 7-inch HD+ screen.

According to Tecno Mobile, you can use the Pouvoir 4 for four days on a single charge or watch up to 792 minutes of movie time (I think that’s around  6 full movies); 516 minutes of video recording and 638 minutes of action-packed gaming. True enough I was able to watch all episodes of Emily in Paris, play fruit slasher in between during the day and it still had enough battery for to check out my favorite Instagrammers and updates of my Facebook groups.

CAMERAS

The Pouvoir 4 is equipped with a 13MP AI Quad camera, two 2MP cameras and an AI lens at the rear, and 8MP dual flash camera at the front. The main camera packs a F1.8 big aperture and 8X digital zoom with a 77-degree shot angle that produces HD video recording function. The phone comes with a low light video record mode that automatically brightens video shots in the dark.

Check out the photos I took using the phone:

I think they turned out way better than I expected for a phone at its price point. Outdoor shots and good lighting were okay although it struggles a bit when it’s a bit dark. Still, compared to other phones, the Pouvoir 4 cameras can hold its own.

In the few days that I was able to use it, the Pouvoir 4 is a lot more suited for those who love to watch videos on youtube or movies and casual gamers. d casual gamers. Like I said the 7-inch screen is bigger than your regular phone display and it has a 90.55% screen ratio so it isn’t really significantly bigger than you’d think. Also it has dual speakers that provide stereo and digital sound solutions based on acoustic measurement and correction. It also runs on the latest Android with TECNO’s HI OS 6.0 UI. I’m not really an expert on UI but I didn’t have any problems navigating around the phone even though it’s my first time to use HI OS.

Lastly, the Pouvoir 4 comes loaded with a range of cool features such as face unlock, fingerprint sensor for optimized security along and a dedicated button along the side to for Google assistant. But the best part of all of this has got to be its price. The Tecno Mobile Pouvoir 4 is priced at just Php4,590 for the Pouvoir 4 3GB +32GB storage.

                                                                         AR Shot

So if you are looking for a budget phone that doesn’t deny you of the essential features like long battery life and big screen, the Pouvoir 4 would be a great choice to get your children for their e-Learning or if you need a secondary standby phone.

Due to the pandemic, millions of people all over the world are working from home, which means longer hours in front of computers. Add to that the frequent use of phones and other devices for entertainment and other purposes. While it is somehow necessary, this may be harmful to your eyes.

For starters, staring at a screen reduces a person’s blink rate, which is key to moistening the eyes and keeping it comfortable. Also, overexposure to blue light, which is the light emitted from digital screens, may pose some eye-related health risks. It has been shown that excessive blue light can increase eye strain, cause headaches and blurry vision, interrupt sleep cycles, affect hormones, and potentially do serious damage to long-term eye health. Fortunately, there are different types of lenses that can address different vision problems.

Government needs to spend more amid the pandemic to boost the country's sagging economy

The pandemic compromised the livelihood of our people. Everyone I know lost their job and is struggling financially and emotionally. With that said, some turned into side hustles/ online selling and the numbers are rising, with the hopes that this could help with their income.

Despite the fact that economic growth and activity have slowed down as a result of the persisting COVID-19 pandemic, government spending should still continue to fast track economic recovery.

According to economist and Marikina (2nd District) Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo, government needs to spend even in the midst of a crisis in order to boost confidence levels of the public, especially businesses.

Confidence booster. Marikina 2nd District Rep. Stella Quimbo says government needs to spend more even amid the pandemic to boost the country’s sagging confidence. She joined BDO Chief Investment Officer Frederico “Fritz” Ocampo as a guest in the recent Market Sense webinar.

"In a bad economic crisis, confidence level is very low—confidence of consumers, confidence of your workers. Everyone's afraid. Fear and anxiety have set in. Even business owners, they don't want to invest. In fact, they'd rather close shop. So this is a situation where government must step in. If the government is not spending enough, then our confidence will be deflated," Rep. Quimbo said as a guest in an episode of Market Sense, a monthly webinar series organized by the BDO Trust Group that combines the latest economic and market developments with seasoned expert advice to help investors take control of their investments and grow their wealth. "We need government to spend because there's a lot of market failures arising from the pandemic," she added.

Rep. Quimbo is one of the principal authors of House Bill No. 6815, or the Accelerated Recovery and Investments Stimulus for the Economy of the Philippines (ARISE Philippines) bill which was already approved by the Lower House. The bill calls for the release of P1.3 trillion in economic stimulus package to jumpstart the economy's recovery from the pandemic in the next four years. It aims to offer various forms of assistance to micro, small and medium enterprises and other sectors adversely affected by COVID-19, and targets to generate around 1.5 million jobs through various infrastructure projects and financial assistance to small businesses from 2020 to 2023.

Projections in 2020 and hopes for recovery in 2021

Meanwhile, BDO Trust Group is looking at a gross domestic product (GDP) contraction of 9.6% in the 3rd quarter, and a 6% contraction in the 4th quarter to bring its full year 2020 GDP projection to negative 8.3%.

Nonetheless, to echo Rep Quimbo's call for more government spending, BDO Chief Investment Officer Frederico "Fritz" Ocampo said the country is poised for a recovery of 6.6% in 2021, as more government spending enters the economy.

“It would allow the economy to recover, and that would be the 2021 story,” he said. “We're facing a recession, which could be the deepest in 35 years. Therefore, the growth drivers were hurt a bit, especially consumer demand, which is 72% of the economy, as well as investments from large local corporates and SMEs. But as the economy slowly opens up once again, you'll see those drivers bouncing back.”

He expressed belief that the Philippines can stand out once again in the global stage, anchored on the country’s young population.

“The Philippines had 21 consecutive years of economic expansion, surpassed only by Australia. That is a testament to the resiliency and strength of the Philippine economy. While the growth drivers were hurt during the pandemic, the strengths of the Philippine economy remained intact. For instance, our young population is still there,” Ocampo stressed. “In a pandemic, you could see the value of that young population in terms of adaptability to the digital economy, in terms of proficiency in the use of the internet. Later on, these young population, many of them would be creating their own companies and become entrepreneurs. Many jobs were lost during this pandemic. To cope, our young population would be creating their own companies.”

TikTok is raising mental health awareness

Are you okay? What have you been doing lately? What's stressing you up?

Mental health remains one of the most neglected areas of public health globally. According to the World Health Organization[1], close to 1 billion people are living with a mental disorder yet countries on average spend a mere 2% of their health budgets on mental health, leaving many without access to quality mental health services. In  the Philippines, the Department of Health urges the public to access free mental health e-learning course

World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, and provides an opportunity for the world to come together to address the challenges around mental health. This year, World Health Organization (WHO), the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) and United for Global Mental Health (UnitedGMH) have joined forces to spark conversations on how the global community can work together through the Move for mental health: let’s invest campaign. The campaign highlights how the COVID-19 pandemic and the implications, including social distancing measures and economic downturns are fuelling fear and anxiety that have further impacted people’s mental health.

Another implication is the surge in the number of hours people spend online for work, entertainment and staying updated while remaining at home. The excessive time spent online has led to a new set of challenges, such as screen-time addiction and cyber bullying that have made it more important than ever to ensure a positive and balanced online environment. Along with the government and individuals, digital platforms play a big part to help users forge mental and digital resilience.

How digital platforms can be harnessed to promote mental health

From sharing mental health tips to personal struggles, digital platforms can play a critical role in raising awareness and educating users about mental health. TikTok for instance, launched the #thinkb4youdo challenge to encourage users in the Philippines and across the world to take a moment and consider, before partaking in negative behaviour or even dangerous acts online - from cyber bullying to self-harm. Such campaigns are becoming a call to action for the online community to play their part in creating a safe and positive environment for everyone.

                    https://www.tiktok.com/@kilimanguru/video/6870780070089231617

With the time we spend online today, more people are becoming aware that maintaining digital wellness is important and they are leveraging digital platforms to raise such awareness. Case in point, medical intern and TikTok creator Kilimanguru addresses mental health in one of his videos captioning: “Mental health matters. STOP THE STIGMA.”

However, digital platforms have a role that goes beyond just facilitating content sharing. There is also a need to ensure that a safe place is created on the platform for people to discover, create and connect. TikTok has rolled outmore robust features over the years, such as Screen Time Management and Restricted Mode, and users are empowered to take more control over how much time they want to spend on TikTok and limit the appearance of content that may not be appropriate for them.

Make a personal commitment for a better mental health

Bringing up mental health challenges is a unique journey for everyone, but people should feel empowered to lead by example and share their battles with others to encourage them to get help. With digital platforms, we have actually seen a rise in people sharing their stories as a way to empower others. Each of us are responsible for our own mental wellbeing and there are practical ways that we as individuals can take to look after our mental health in the digital age, including:

Reduce time online - We can take a proactive approach to limit the time we spend online by turning off our digital devices at certain times of the day such as when you are sleeping or spending time with our loved ones. We can also disable unnecessary notifications as often it is hard to resist looking at the constant buzzing of new messages even when we are about to go to sleep. There are various measures in place today that help us to control how much time we spend online and we should be making use of these measures actively.

Change your focus - Many of us turn to devices like our phone purely as a force of habit to mindlessly kill time. But are you escaping into the digital world as a substitute for real life? Turning to apps like social media and forums may be easy and convenient, but there are often healthier, more effective ways to pass time. If you are feeling bored, consider exercising or taking up a new hobby. The takeaway is striking a balance between online and offline interactions and recognising that we do not have to be glued to our screens 24/7.

Take time for reflection away from the screen - It is very important to have introspective time away from our digital devices and practicing mindfulness. Try journaling or meditating. Keep track of all the great memories and positives — and practice gratitude for all the people and things you have in your life.

While the above is by no means an exhaustive list, the key here is to make a commitment to prioritize our mental health. It is about taking the first step to understand what we can do as individuals and to act on it so that it is not just something that we talk about.

It takes a community to address mental health

Raising mental health awareness and eradicating stigma around the topic requires a whole-of-society approach. While each one of us can take concrete actions in maintaining our own mental health, we can also play a role in supporting friends and family who are struggling. Employers for example can take active steps to create employee wellness programs that can help to build a nurturing environment for their organizations.

Governments are increasingly committing to improving mental health services and making them accessible for all. They can also collaborate more closely with the private sectors and communities to understand the current needs and build relevant solutions to address current gaps. The private and public sectors will need to collaborate more closely than ever before to raise awareness on this crucial issue. Public-private partnerships and programs can help support efforts to raise awareness about mental health.

This digital day and age has certainly brought about many new challenges, and it is absolutely crucial that digital platforms do their part to help users forge mental and digital resilience. However, the responsibility of promoting mental health does not fall on one person, party or organization. It requires a united approach and everyone can do their part to improve mental health and help others suffering from mental illnesses to expunge the stigma of mental health.

Olay partners with Shopee, one of the leading e-commerce platforms in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, to launch Adult Fearlessly campaign

Empowering women with the confidence to navigate adulthood, P&G-owned skincare brand Olay partners with Shopee, one of the leading e-commerce platforms in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, to launch Adult Fearlessly campaign. The campaign seeks to reach and engage with digital natives in Southeast Asia, empowering millennial women to #adultfearlessly and overcome the perceived challenges of 'adulting' and invest in quality products catered to their skincare needs. The refreshed brand campaign will be held exclusively on Shopee and rolled out in phases across six markets including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

This second collaboration between Olay and Shopee builds on the previous success of Olay's regional campaign which launched the Retinol 24 product line last April. The campaign surpassed targets by almost double due to Olay and Shopee's hyper localised marketing strategy, enabling them to reach the right audiences. Adult Fearlessly aims to ramp up Olay's growth momentum on e-commerce with a digital-led campaign leveraging Shopee's marketing tools and core engagement features, such as Shopee Live stream and Shopee Games.

Shankar Viswanathan, Senior Vice President - P&G Market Operations - Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and E-Commerce - Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa with Ian Ho, Shopee Regional Managing Director

A study on over 16,000 consumers across Asia-Pacific revealed that 58% of millennial consumers are more influenced by online brand videos when choosing brands, including decisions about beauty and skincare needs[1]. As such, Olay teamed up with Shopee to conceptualise and co-create content, such as the campaign hero video, "Fearless with your choices", to capture the attention of millennial female consumers.

"We want to focus on how our consumers are integrating their lifestyle with their skin needs," said Lucy Moran, Olay and Personal Care Senior eCommerce Director, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

"As one of the top facial skincare brands in the world, we are continually innovating and advancing the way we connect with our consumers. With e-commerce driving a major shift from offline to online sales, there is potential to achieve further growth in this segment. Riding on this momentum to broaden our reach in Southeast Asia, we are partnering with Shopee once again to bring more engaging  and convenient experiences online, where consumers are able to access Olay products– all at the click of a button," she adds.

Ian Ho, Regional Managing Director of Shopee said, "The Health & Beauty category is one of the top-performing on Shopee, and the new normal has driven even more consumers to browse and buy skincare products online. We are proud to be able to support Olay in their e-commerce growth through this campaign. Our shared consumer insights and widening base of millennial users have enabled a hyperlocal strategy for Olay to deliver the best online shopping experience. We are confident in supporting Olay to achieve another successful campaign with us."

The Adult Fearlessly campaign is brought to life in the "Fearless with your choices" video, which strives to shift the mindsets of millennials as they confront their fears of turning 30. Olay seeks to inspire women by highlighting the positive aspects of this journey. With personal and financial independence that comes with age, women can make choices fearlessly, and invest in skincare products that are of good quality and value to make 'adulting' easier.
