Nestlé Philippines joined the LGBT+ community’s celebration of Pride Month in June

Upholding its pursuit of diversity and inclusion by providing equal opportunities for everyone, and building a workplace in which all people are treated with dignity and respect, Nestlé Philippines joined the LGBT+ community’s celebration of Pride Month in June with the determination to foster an even more diverse and inclusive culture within its ranks.

“Nestlé’s values are rooted in respect - for ourselves and for others, for diversity, and for the future.  Diversity and inclusion are a foundation of our strength as an organization,” said Nestlé Philippines Chairman and CEO Kais Marzouki.

Acting on its commitment to give life to diversity and inclusion, Nestlé encourages its employees to “Bring your whole self to work” through education and awareness building, while creating a work environment that cultivates respect through its programs and policies.

Early in 2020, Nestlé Philippines was one of the first markets to launch the implementation of the Nestlé Gender-neutral Parental Support Policy that provides a more supportive and nurturing environment for new parents. The policy enforces gender equality and diversity, recognizing today’s diverse family structures:  biological or adoptive parents, including same-sex partners, single parents, and legal guardians. With the enhanced policy, the company is one of the first to extend paid parental leave to same-sex partners in the country.

Similarly, the company’s medical program for dependents, as well as other family-related benefits, support common-law and same-sex partnerships.

In the Philippines, all of Nestlé leaders have been trained in unconscious bias and sexual harassment prevention.  The company has also launched a mandatory e-learning course, “Diversity and Inclusion at Nestle: the LGBT+ Community,” which focuses on fostering inclusion for the LGBT+ community, and forms part of an expanding diversity and inclusion learning curriculum.

Nestlé Philippines is a member of Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride, a collaborative, voluntary and non-profit community of practice for equal opportunity employers and inclusive business organizations in the country.

As part of Pride Month, Nestlé Philippines held a forum called #TogetherwithPride Inclusion Talk, which tackled awareness of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sexual characteristics (SOGIESC), and allyship, more specifically supporting equality and the rights of the LGBT+ community in the workplace, with Christopher Eugenio of Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride. Inspirational coming out stories were shared by Bem Uychinco, H2R Global Transition Manager of Nestlé Business Services and Johann Ang, Senior HR Business Partner of Nestlé Philippines.

Nestlé Philippines engages in continuous efforts to make the workplace more inclusive by reviewing its policies and practices in its entire value chain, and fulfilling its role in influencing and inspiring society to be more inclusive.

Blued: More than just a Dating App

The COVID-19 pandemic and several lockdown restrictions have had most of us stuck at home for over a year now. With social activities put on hold, people have turned to one activity to remedy the growing need for human interaction—online dating.

Over the past year, dating apps experienced an increase in users and time spent using these apps. Blued, the largest gay social network app in the world, gained 30% more active users per month by the end of April 2021. Another app reports 42% more matches per user and up to 19% more messages sent per day in February of 2021 versus 2020.

But online dating is not always a one-size-fits-all fix for everyone.

“The getting-to-know stage through messaging becomes longer, to the point that either one would eventually lose interest,” said Kyle*, a 26-year-old marketer.

Marky*, a 20-year-old Architecture student said to not take online dating too seriously because most people just seek quick hook-ups and “quaranflings” on dating apps. Virtual interactions can be very tricky as you only see what they want you to see,” he said.

But while there are those like Kyle and Marky who do not believe in dating without personally meeting each other first, there are others like Beck who seek genuine connections more than ever too.

After failing to rekindle a past relationship over the lockdown, Beck was motivated to look for a serious relationship. “Uhaw ako sa love life noon kaya willing akong bumalik sa ex ko kahit na toxic! (I was so eager for a love life back then, I was willing to go back to a toxic ex!)” he said. “Then I tried Blued and found the kind of connection that I wanted.”

More than just a dating app

When it comes to catering to its LGBTQ+ users, Blued proves that it does more than just mix and match people together.

As a full-blown social networking site, Blued connects over 60 million users worldwide. With features like “Meet” video speed dating and Voice Chat Rooms, users can interact with each other in fun and new ways.

"While the pandemic may have affected offline gatherings, we are bringing them online, uniting our community in a positive celebration of who they are. It is a space where you can make many meaningful connections and express yourself along the way.” said Liam Lu, Head of Blued International.

For Beck, Blued helped him meet a lot of guys through unique features that made his profile stand out. Beyond that, it introduced him to a safe and loving space.

If you're looking for a community of people just like you and me, BLUED offers a space where you can connect safely and express yourself freely,” said yogi and activist Ben Bernabe

Recently, the app launched #LiveYourPride in celebration of this year’s Pride Month. The campaign kicked off with a global TVC featuring a diverse cast, a virtual nightclub experience, and special events per country and region.

In the Philippines, Blued PH is celebrating gays of all shapes and stories through “Living My Gay Life.” The local campaign features notable personalities, such as viral content creators Sassa Gurl and Niel Esteban and filmmaker and HIV advocate Wanggo Gallaga, who flexed their proudest moments as members of the community.

Sa lahat ng pinagdaanan ko sa buhay, rejections, failures and short success, eto parin ako maganda, emz! (Through everything I’ve been through in life, rejections, failures, and short successes, here I am still beautiful, emz!)” said resident TikTok star Pipay Kipay

“I am proud to be a gay DJ and sharing my music is one of my passions. [I’m] thankful for apps like Blued where you can reach out & share a space for the genuine version of yourself,”  shared DJ and art director Mike Lavarez.

“#LiveYourPride unites our community online in a positive celebration of who we are,” said Lu. “With Blued, everyone is encouraged to live their prideand themselvesto the fullest.“

YouTube announces the arrival of the beta version of YouTube Shorts in the Philippines

YouTube announced today the arrival of the beta version of YouTube Shorts in the Philippines. Shorts is the platform’s new short-form video experience to create short, catchy videos from mobile phones. First announced in September 2020, YouTube has since expanded the feature to 26 countries including the Philippines, making it available across more than 100 countries where YouTube is available.

While short form videos were already viewable in the platform, users will now be able to access Shorts’ creation tools which include a multi-segment camera to string multiple video clips together, the ability to record with music, control speed settings, and more. YouTube will also be bringing new features such as:

Adding text to specific points in videos

      Automatically adding captions to Shorts

Recording up to 60 seconds with the Shorts camera

Adding clips from a phone’s gallery to add to recordings made with the Shorts camera

Adding basic filters to color correct Shorts, with more effects to come in the future

The new features also include the ability to sample audio not only from other Shorts but also from the billions of videos available on YouTube, unlocking a new playground of creativity like never before. This means that users can give their own creative spin on the content they love to watch and help find it a new audience. From reacting to favorite jokes, trying a hand at a creator’s latest recipe, or re-enacting comedic skits, creators will be in control and will be able to opt out if they don’t want their long form video remixed.

“We want to make it easy and fun to create Shorts,” said Todd Sherman, Global Product Manager for YouTube Shorts. “As we continue to build Shorts alongside our creators and artists, we’ll be adding more features for people to try,” he added.

Delivering a seamless viewing experience across YouTube

Helping people find Shorts to enjoy and creators get discovered is also a key component of the product experience. That is why even before announcing the creation tools, YouTube introduced a row on the YouTube homepage especially for Shorts, launched a new watch experience that lets viewers easily swipe vertically from one video to the next, and will soon add a Shorts tab on mobile that makes it easier for people to watch Shorts with a single tap.

As of today, the YouTube Shorts player has surpassed 6.5 billion daily views globally.

Shorts will be integrated to the YouTube experience people already know and love: if they hear a snippet of a song on Shorts, they can easily find the full song, watch the music video, or learn more about the artist.

Supporting mobile creators

YouTube has helped an entire generation of creators turn their creativity into businesses and become the next generation media companies. Over the last three years, the company has paid more than $30 billion to creators, artists, and media companies.

With Shorts being a new way to watch and create on YouTube, the company has been looking at various ways to monetize Shorts and reward creators for their content, including the recently announced YouTube Shorts Fund, amounting to $100M distributed over the course of 2021-2022.

“We know that it will take us time to get this right, and we're just getting started. We can't wait for you to try Shorts and help us build a first-class, short-form video experience right on YouTube,” Sherman said.

The Shorts beta is rolling out in more countries and will be available to everybody soon.

Carousell Philippines: Property seekers are now more inclined towards buying house-and-lot properties

More buyers are now purchasing house and lot over condominiums, opting for properties with more open spaces. This, along with other property trends, was revealed by Carousell Philippines during a recent media conference for the upcoming Online Property Expo on July 14-18, 2021.

“Most property seekers in Metro Manila are looking for house and lot followed by condo. This used to be the other way around before the pandemic. We saw the shift starting in the third quarter of last year. The shift in preference is clearly pronounced nowadays as people are looking for bigger spaces and we could see it remaining for some time,” said Shine Resurreccion, Carousell Philippines Head of Property. Resurreccion added that   currently, 55% of property seekers are now more inclined towards buying house-and-lot properties, compared to pre-pandemic period where 60% of buyers preferred condominiums.

Half of the most in demand locations for property seekers looking to buy house and lot were located in Metro Manila, Central, and Southern Tagalog regions. Meanwhile, top searched locations for condominiums include Taguig, Pasig, Makati, Mandaluyong, and Quezon City. Many property developers are expanding and building more subdivisions in the provinces as a response to the growing demand.

Other than the availability of open spaces, said locations are expected to be more accessible in the next few years as they stand to benefit in the massive infrastructure projects like the ‘Build, Build, Build’ program by the national government.

Tang strongly believes that lunch can be a moment to build stronger relationships with your kids

Due to lockdowns, families are spending most of their time together at home. Parents and kids are physically together for days on end, working and going through distance learning. However, are you, as parents, taking this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to know your kid and build stronger relationships with them? With so many things happening at home, it is easy to forget to set time to bond and know your child.

An example of such a moment is lunch, a meal that is often rushed with parents mentally preoccupied with the next task of the day. Instead of being a time to share a meal with the family and connect over conversations, lunch has become a time where the family is physically together but emotionally distant from one another. This is one of the reasons why kids nowadays feel neglected or lonely.

Tang strongly believes that lunch can be a moment to build stronger relationships with your kids; calling on moms to transform lunches into bonding moments by having an Usapang TANGhalian. It is about the power of conversations to know your kids, understand their perspective, and check up on their emotional well-being. With its new campaign, Usapang TANGhalian, Tang leads the way in reminding moms to be fully present during tanghalians, taking this time to nurture their kids through healthy beverages and meaningful conversations.

Together with Camille Prats, Tang showcases how every tanghalian can be transformed into bonding moments through Usapang TANGhalians. Camille shares with us real Usapang TANGhalians with her son Nathan, most of which lead to surprising revelations that help her understand her son even better. Camille shares, “Nathan is always busy with online school and I was curious if he needed help with anything. Whenever I would ask, he replies, “Nothing Mom, kaya ko ‘to.”. One lunchtime, I decided to ask: Is there anything mom can do better? And he told me that he appreciated every time I would check up on him because it made him feel that I was always there for him. This made me tear up and surprised me at how much Nathan appreciates the little things I do”. As a hands-on mom, Camille believes, like Tang, that all parents should use their time together with their kids as an opportunity to build stronger relationships, nurture their them, and prepare them for an even better future.

Tang’s Usapang TANGhalian takes a step further by partnering with Facebook Mom Communities such as Mommy Mundo, Lifestyle Moms PH, Usapang Nanay, Moms Support Moms PH, Moms Club PH, 1ST Time Moms, and many more to kickstart the transformation of every tanghalian into an Usapang TANGhalian. Within each community, hundreds of KOLs will be sharing their experiences and tips to start an Usapang TANGhalian. Tang will also be launching a Facebook and Instagram filter with randomized questions for parents and kids; with the hopes of making Usapang TANGhalian fun and helping moms capture these bonding moments.

In addition to advocating for stronger parent and kid relationships, Tang is also encouraging moms to serve healthier beverages over lunch. With the 100% Vitamin C of two oranges in every refreshing glass, Tang provides the protection your kid needs. So, Tang calls out to all moms to transform tanghalians from being a rushed and neglected meal to being a time to prepare their kids for a better future through Usapang TANGhalians and the 100% Vitamin C of Tang.

Kaya mga mommies and daddies, ‘wag palampasin ang Tanghalian na walang Tang at #UsapangTANGhalian! Try the #UsapangTANGhalian filter on Instagram: https://bit.ly/3w3XBHE or Facebook:https://bit.ly/3wjRgYK with your kids and you might just be surprised by their answers!

Teleperformance procured vaccines for employees

Teleperformance in the Philippines continues to be a strong advocate for health and safety as the company began implementation of its employee vaccination program called TPVac on July 10 at Solaire Vaccine Center in Paranaque. The first team members to receive the vaccines were the most at risk population front line employees.

As a people company, Teleperformance procured vaccines for employees based out of its 22 business sites across the National Capital Region, Antipolo, Cavite, Baguio, Bacolod, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao who opted to participate in TPVac. This initiative likewise affirms the commitment of Teleperformance, not only to protect the health of its people, but also to help governments address the pandemic with agile, large-scope support of vaccination programs deployed at the corporate level.

“Teleperformance showed that they really care for their employees. It’s my first time to be vaccinated against Covid-19, so I was a bit anxious. But that vanished because the doctors were very accommodating. The venue is very good; staff were well organized. Good job, TP!” said Customer Service Representative Anna Marie Erika Manipon, who shared her experience after the inoculation.

Since the start of the Covid-19 crisis, Teleperformance has paid careful attention to support communities and promote the safety and well-being of their employees during the pandemic. A Great Place to Work® certified company, Teleperformance Philippines has strictly implemented sound health and safety measures in all its business locations, abiding by the guidelines set by the World Health Organization and the Department of Health in the Philippines.

A Teleperformance employee gets her first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine

These include the completion of health declaration forms prior to worksite entry, temperature checks twice a day for employees onsite, provision for transport assistance, as necessary and strict implementation of physical distancing in the workplace, among others. Medical consultations and procedures, including testing and care for Covid-19, are covered in Teleperformance’s HMO program.

“Our Teleperformance family continues to work together to eradicate Covid-19. By launching this program and committing complimentary vaccines for all our 47,000 team members in the Philippines, this is another testament to our 25-year history of ensuring employee safety is our top priority. We look forward to continuing to partner with the Government in our joint mission of keeping everyone safe and secure,” said Jeffrey Johnson, Senior Vice President of Human Capital.
