Google, together with Ben&Ben launches "Mag-Ingat" to promote internet safety and digital responsibility

Google, together with Filipino folk pop band Ben&Ben launches a new song to promote internet safety and digital responsibility. Entitled “Mag-Ingat” (Be Safe Online), the song is part of Google’s commitment to helping Filipinos use the internet safely and responsibly.

The two-and-a-half minute Filipino song addresses online threats today including scams, misinformation, and catfishing, and the importance of critical thinking and verifying information using trusted sources to protect oneself and others. It also reminds netizens to be wary of bad actors who lurk in the online space, just like in the real world.

This newest single from the young band ends strongly with a bridge conveying that online safety is a shared responsibility–people are all stewards of the digital world. It’s all in the hands of netizens to use the internet right and care for the online safety of one another.

The catchy and lively tune was written and performed by Ben&Ben, the Philippines’ #1 local artist of 2021. The award-winning nine-piece act is known for mixing Filipino folk music with pop to create songs about hope, love, and positivity.

“Filipinos are highly social people and most of us interact with one another digitally. In such a world, it’s no wonder that while the internet brings so many advantages, it also opens us up to many dangers if we are not careful enough. With ‘Mag-ingat,’ we wanted to use our music to spread awareness on such a timely and important issue–because all of us are responsible for making sure that the internet is a safe and positive space for everyone,” said Miguel Benjamin of Ben&Ben.

“Internet safety is so important to Google. Beyond tools, products, and policies that enable us to help people stay safe online, we deepen our local partnerships to promote digital responsibility. By partnering with Ben&Ben and through their music, we believe that we can teach internet safety to more people in a way that deeply resonates with and becomes part of their everyday lives,” said Mervin Wenke, Head of Communications and Public Affairs, Google Philippines.

Google’s holistic approach to digital responsibility is helping millions of people to stay safe in the online space. Aside from security measures including the two-step verification process, and security and password checkups, it also introduced programs such as Be Internet Awesome with the Department of Education, and supported NGO campaigns like the Cyberpeace initiative of Teach Peace Build Peace Movement.

“We thank Google for being a steadfast partner in promoting and upholding the digital safety of Filipinos, and Ben&Ben for creating an anthem that will remind every Filipino who listens to it to ‘mag-ingat’ and take steps into becoming responsible netizens,” said Atty. John Henry Naga, National Privacy Commissioner.

The “Mag-ingat” music video is already available on Ben&Ben’s official YouTube channel. "Mag-ingat" is also available on all digital music services worldwide.

Understanding the importance of testing during the pandemic is the key to protecting the family

Last January 19, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed the first two recorded fatalities, plus an additional 492 COVID-19 cases linked to the more contagious and transmissible Omicron variant. Four days prior to that, Omicron had finally surpassed the Delta variant as the most predominant in the country.

As of January 31, the DOH reports that, in the National Capital Region (NCR) alone, the total number of COVID-19 cases is already over 1.1 million.

The stress and pressure caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the Philippine healthcare system, as well as the crippling effect it has on individuals, family units, and communities, has led to a re-emphasis in the campaign for COVID-19 testing.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), testing is essential in stopping the spread of the virus because it helps correctly identify and diagnose patients, and allows caretakers and medical providers to give them the treatments they need. In turn, the DOH continues to encourage the public to get tested as soon as symptoms of COVID-19 occur, especially in individuals who are part of the vulnerable population.

New World Diagnostics Inc. (NWDI) is one of the country’s leading diagnostics laboratories, providing comprehensive and automated COVID-19 testing services, such as the RT-PCR Swab test and the Antigen test. It is also one of the few molecular laboratories certified by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) to conduct RT-PCR Saliva testing.

Aside from in-clinic services, NWDI also offers home services, making it possible for individuals who may be constrained to stay home to get tested, too.

“NWDI is well aware of the critical role diagnostic laboratories play during this time of the pandemic,” said President and CEO Maria Estella Diokno. “In spite of the surge [in cases], NWDI’s Molecular Laboratory has continuously strived to deliver the best service and timely turnaround time of results to all our patients.”

The Oropharyngeal and Nasopharyngeal Swab are the recommended collection methods of the RT-PCR test, since it gives more reliable results. Patient preparations for this are fairly simple. It is highly advised to wear a mask to an RT-PCR Swab test appointment, and patients must also be mentally prepared for possible discomfort as the swab is being collected.

For saliva-based RT-PCR tests, the DOH released guidelines that state the best sample to collect is the morning saliva of the patient, and that patients should not eat, drink, brush their teeth, use mouthwash or smoke for at least 30 minutes prior to the test.

“COVID-19 testing is not something to be afraid of or worried about,” Diokno stressed. “Instead, look at COVID-19 testing as a tool that can help the government and medical institutions assess the state of the country, as well as an opportunity to keep your loved ones safe and protected from the COVID-19 virus.”

Canon delights communities through advocacy, supporting Brigada Eskwela with printer donations

Canon Marketing (Philippines) Inc. is a proud supporter of the Department of Education’s annual Brigada Eskwela campaign that helps prepare public schools for the opening of classes. Committed to delighting communities through its products, services, and advocacy, Canon donated Canon printers to the Balokbalok Elementary School and Nasugbu West Central School in Nasugbu, Batangas. The city was recently distressed by Typhoon Jolina last September 2021, and many of the Balokbalok elementary School’s modules, printers, and learning materials were damaged in the aftermath.

Under the theme of Bayanihan para sa Paaralan, this year’s project advocates for the support of learning opportunities, together with the health, safety, and well-being protection of students, teachers, and personnel. Through Canon’s printer donations, both provincial institutions received additional support to upgrade their educational facilities in printing modules or exercise sheets aiming to contribute to students’ continuous learning amidst the pandemic.

Canon Marketing (Philippines) Inc., is honored and blessed to be part of Balokbalok Elementary School and Nasugbu West Central School’s Brigada Eskwela. The pandemic has called for new ways of learning and working together to effectively educate our youth. We hope that students’ virtual, and or mixed face-to-face learning can be complemented by the printed modules serving as tangible practice or workbook sheets leading to better understanding of the lessons taught,” said Mr. Kazuhiro Ozawa, President & CEO of Canon Marketing (Philippines) Inc.

In coping with the new normal, Canon Philippines went beyond to delight Nasugbu residents with tangible tools and assistance to support their education. Delighting through advocacy is integral to Canon’s way of doing business and the company is committed to extending help and support to communities in need, whether it be through product donations or creative programs.

Canon Marketing (Philippines) Inc. members Eric Villanueva, Lens Baruelo, Nicole Pineda, Anuj Aggarwal and Kazuhiro Ozawa virtually meet to show appreciation for a successful donation of Canon printers received by Mrs. Lilybeth Guernaldo on behalf of Nasugbu West Central School, and by Mrs. Myra Bruno in behalf of Balokbalok Elementary School.
