Beko Supports Filipino Youth as Co-Presenter of 10th Himig ng Kabataan Choral Competition

Now in its tenth year, the event was held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at St. John Bosco Parish in Makati City (Jubilee Church for Artists, Musical Bands, and Athletes), coinciding with the church's 47th anniversary of the dedication of the church and the Jubilee Year with the theme: Pilgrims of Hope.

“The event provides an exclusive platform for church-based choirs to be heard and make a mark in the choral music scene in the Philippines. We aim to be the country's longest-running church-based choir competitions, said Mr. Gaylord Villa, the Music Ministry Head of SJB Parish Makati.

It was an evening of musical spectacle as the competition brought together eight talented choirs from various cities, each vying for top honors and showcasing their exceptional vocal talent and dedication.

The finalists for this year's competition included Coro Jesu, Himig San Vicente, Koro ni San Jose, Koro ni San Miguel, Malabon Concert Singers, OMPHP Youth Ensemble VI, San Andres Chamber Singers, and The Vennekreds.

 

After a series of powerful and harmonious performances, the winners emerged with The Malabon Concert Singers hailed as the Grand Champion and took home a cash prize of PHP 100,000. First runner-up was Coro Jesu, receiving PHP 50,000, while The Vennekreds was named as the second runner-up, with a cash prize of PHP 30,000.

 

The Malabon Concert Singers also received the Best Song Rendition (Choice Piece), while the San Andres Chamber Singers won the People's Choice Award. All cash prizes were generously provided by Beko.

Beko Philippines Hits Sustainability Milestone: 100% Plastic Waste Recovered and Diverted in 2024 with PCX Markets

The partnership, which began in 2023, has already yielded impressive results. In 2024, Beko Philippines achieved 100% recovery and diversion of its plastic footprint, going beyond the requirements of the country's Extended Producer Responsibility law. This landmark achievement involved the diversion of over 39,000 kg of plastic waste from nature—the equivalent of 13 million 3-gram plastic sachets.

Top Lun Project: Giving Plastics a Second Life

Through the Top Lun partnership, 33,000 kg of rigid HDPE (high-density polyethylene) plastics, commonly found in plastic bottle caps sourced from junk shops and informal waste pickers, were successfully recycled into flakes and then sold to companies for use in various products.

 

Holcim-Geocycle Project: Fueling Up Energy

Beko also backed the Holcim-Geocycle initiative, fostering collaborations with local government units and waste aggregators. This project facilitated the sourcing of post-consumer plastic waste, which was then transported to Holcim's cement facilities and served as an alternative fuel source.

 

The initiative supports Holcim’s efforts to cut dependence on imported fossil fuels and raw materials, while promoting sustainable waste management. The project successfully diverted 4,000 kg of flexible plastics from the environment.

 

Aling Tindera Project: Building a Sustainable Community

The Aling Tindera waste-to-cash initiative empowers women micro-entrepreneurs to drive grassroots sustainability. These entrepreneurs collect or purchase flexible plastics from their local communities to be purchased by the partners and delivered to a co-processing facility, where it is used as alternative fuel in a licensed waste-to-energy plant.

 

More than helping the sustainability efforts, this initiative also helped the women provide for their families. This program gave around ₱7,500 in incremental income to these women and their communities. There was an increase of 37% in average monthly income compared to the initial project baseline last year.

Home Buddies Celebrates 4th Anniversary by Partnering with Beko and 50 Volunteers to Serve 128 Families

As part of its commitment, Beko participated in the vibrant celebration of the Home Buddies Fiesta outreach program which uplifted the Gawad Kalinga village in Laguerta, Muntinlupa, on November 10. Home Buddies, launched in 2020, is the largest Facebook community of home enthusiasts in the Philippines, with over 3 million members. 

 

Home Buddies celebrates its anniversary each year by giving back to the community. Now in its fourth year, Home Buddies partnered with Beko and 50 volunteers from its online community to serve around 128 families, including 200 to 300 children, within the Gawad Kalinga Village. Different teams focused on various areas of support: #TeamPinta (community repainting),#TeamBusog (feeding program), #TeamSaya (GK Paraisong Pambata program for kids), and #TeamAlaga (overall event organizing team).

Frances Lim Cabatuando, the founder of Home Buddies and fondly known as Mayora Frances, shared the inspiration for this year’s celebration, which is based on the Filipino Fiesta tradition.

 

“A Filipino Fiesta is made up of three elements: (1) the community coming together, (2) there's fun and food for everyone, (3) and it has to be a meaningful celebration. We thought it was the perfect theme for this year's outreach,” said Frances.

Beko representatives participated in heartwarming programs for kids, staged a booth for participants to enjoy more activities, and sponsored an event segment where community kids played games and took home prizes.
