Sony Channel will keep you glued to Manhattan Love Story!

With all the TV series that have been showing of lately, I wonder why there is no romantic comedy with a premise that my friends could relate to, until I chanced upon this one.

Manhattan Love Story is a new romantic comedy based on this simple premise: The only way to maintain relationships—with lovers, spouses, family, co-workers, or friends—is to keep most of our thoughts to ourselves. Dana (Analeigh Tipton, Crazy, Stupid, Love) and Peter (Jake McDorman, Shameless) travel through the complicated terrain of modern-day relationship in this new romantic comedy.

The show has an extra dimension: the audience will hear Dana and Peter’s inner thoughts, highlighting the differences of men and women in dating and find out what they are really thinking when they say something.

Dana is from Atlanta and moves to New York to chase her dreams. When she gets a job, her colleagues started losing theirs and put the blame on her. She keeps a naive and innocent disposition despite these setbacks in high hopes that her colleagues will once again like her. She is determined to succeed in the Big Apple in both career and love.

Peter, on the other hand, is a cynical New Yorker who works for his dad at the family’s business. He has dated so many women to the point that he does not remember their names when he sees them on the street.

Their contrasting personalities do not stop Dana’s friend and sorority sister Amy (Jade Catta-Preta, Californication) from setting them up both on a blind date.

Will Peter and Dana fall in love despite the odds? Tune in to this quirky new show and find out if you’ll get smitten too!

Filmed in New York, Manhattan Love Story stars Analeigh Tipton as Dana, Jake McDorman as Peter, Nicolas Wright as David, Jade Catta-Preta as Amy, Chloe Wepper as Chloe and Kurt Fuller as William.

Manhattan Love Story premieres on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 10pm, First & Exclusive on Sony Channel.

Sony Channel is seen on SKYCable Channel 35, Cignal Digital TV Channel 60, Destiny Cable Channel 62, Cable Link Channel 39.

LBC-HONGKONG: Fostering the Overseas Community Spirit

The city of Hong Kong is home to over 190,000 Filipinos who make their living in that sprawling metropolis across the sea. Although many do seek jobs abroad for the sake of their loved ones, their work nonetheless takes them far away from their friends and families here in the Philippines. The distance and isolation from all things that are familiar can take its toll even on the most hard-working expat.

(L-R) LBC Express, Inc. CEO Santiago Araneta, Philippine Consul General to Hong Kong Bernadita Catalla, LBC President Mike Camahort, and LBC Director Toby Gan officially opened LBC’s Hong Kong Branch at North Point, the largest LBC branch worldwide. The facility will also serve as a community hub for OFWs in Hong Kong.

It is with this in mind that LBC Express recently opened their largest international branch in Hong Kong at King’s Road, North Point. In addition to offering multiple dedicated counters for remittance, sea and air cargo, and striped bags in their new store, LBC also encourages their fellow Pinoys in Hong Kong to consider the new Filipino Activity Center as a place where they could gather and relax.

LBC’s newest branch indeed functions as a one-stop shop for overseas Filipinos. Aside from being a main hub for sending their Padala home, the activity center offers free internet terminals and WiFi to give Filipinos their much needed contact with their friends and families across the sea. Customers can enjoy vending machine snacks and watch TV as they relax in the air-conditioned area, which provides much relief from the changeable Hong Kong weather. LBC also provides valuable shuttle services from Central or City Garden North Point to the store, to ease the strain of commuting in the bustling city.

“We want to give our customers a safe and comfortable place to transact their business and connect with their loved ones at home,” Maria Ana Aramgo, LBC-Hong Kong’s area head, said. “There’s no way we can repay their loyalty or trust in our services over the years, but we hope that giving our customers a place where they can foster a sense of community and make themselves at home is a start.”

Pinkberry partners with Sugarpova by Sharapova

When people around me became health conscious 5 years ago, I joined the craze, for my well being,  like them I have been counting calories, and is always on the look out for non fat desserts. That was when I discovered frozen yogurt which tastes like ice cream but without the guilt. I ditched my rocky road ice cream and mocha caramel frappucino to froyo  (frozen yogurt) since then, anything that is sweet I replaced with something that tastes like real fun but would not interfere with my diet. Who would not love a frozen yogurt? The tart flavor goes well with all the toppings that you could pile into your cup.  I have been to 3 froyo shops in the country but nothing beats the original tart flavor that Pinkberry offers.

I had a pleasure of tasting the best frozen yogurt at Pinkberry, at 5th level Mega Fashion Hall last October 1. We were served  3 separate  glossy paper placemats with  little cups of their original tart, strawberry, cherry, caramel yogurt and delicious toppings.  Added to their set of toppings are Sharapova gummies from the famed healthy, pretty and fit tennis player Maria Sharapova.

The sugarpova gummies
Sugarpova is a candy line by international tennis sensation Maria Sharapova and candy veteran and founder of international retailer |T'SUGAR, Jeff Rubin. The premium gummy candy collection is a fun, fashionable, and sweet match with Pinkberry’s iconic, light and refreshing frozen yogurt. A portion of all proceeds from the sale of Sugarpova go towards the Maria Sharapova Foundation, Sharapova's charity. The gummV Candi! was first marketed in the U.S. in August, reaching 250,000 bags in the first three months.

The best partner to my original tart is the sugarpova smitten, the tart and the chewy sour flavor plays right in my tongue. The cherry yogurt with flirty gummies, would surely love by the kids. The gummies goes right with any of the three yogurts.

I piled my cherry yogurt with chocolate syrup, almond and strawberry. The chocolate compliments the cherry yogurt, it wakes up the taste. I now know what to order next time. I had a grand time playing with all the toppings in my table. I experimented with strawberry and grated coconut, weird but I loved how it tastes.

Who discovered that a sprinkle of sea salt would bring joy to my caramel froyo with all the toppings that I loved most?  I actually love these set of toppings and caramel yogurt. I would substitute these with my original tart anytime.

My salted caramel froyo with almonds, shaved chocolate, banana and crepes. The best combination in the house!

What our table looked like during the mix-matching, piling of toppings, how these goodness went right with each other taste after taste, pile after pile.  How I discovered my own signature "flavor". Now I know what to order next, and would include the sharapova gummies to my caramel yogurt on my next visit.

The last part of the event was the "make your own twirl and pile 2 toppings". Our team made our own madness twirl from the counter. My original twirl of a cup overflowed to its side.

I went for healthy, I chose strawberry, mochi balls and kiwi for toppings with my original tart yogurt.

Pinkberry’s selected premium toppings number to thirty, categorized into four — dry, fruit, luxe and liquid. Each topping is chosen to provide a taste and texture combination to complement their signature frozen yogurt. Their fruits are always fresh, never from a can, frozen or
sitting in water.

My healthy frozen original yogurt with strawberry, kiwi and mochi balls for toppings.

Pinkberry offers some great flavor combinations that will keep you coming back time and time again. Any toppings with your favorite yogurt could become your signature product. you can keep it very easy and simple or you can make your own signature creation.

Post your order of pinkberry yogurt (any product) topped with at least one Sugarpova topping on lnstagram and tag @pinkberryph fisharapinkberry and get a chance to win P500 worth of Pinkberry
gift certificates. One winner will be chosen each week, winners will be announced every Friday, until October 24.

Pinkberry yogurt bar offers the original tart and tangy frozen yogurt that is the perfect balance of tart and sweet, resulting in a light, refreshing and clean taste that is truly craveable. Each serving uses only real non-fat yogurt and real non-fat milk for the best tasting yogurt experience.

Pinkberry is one of the fastest growing retail brands globally with over 240 stores across 17 countries. The Philippines is its first market in Asia. Greenbelt 5, their flagship store in the country opened last December 7, 2011.

New Cherry flavor

Aside from its special tie up with Sugarpova, Pinkberry is also excited to announce its new flavor - the tart and light Cherry Pinkberry. Cherry Pinkberry is crafted from real bits of juicy cherries, so it perfectly captures the delicate, delicious flavor of fruit fresh from the market. The new flavor is excellent as Chocolate Covered Cherry with shaved milk chocolate and chocolate sauce. It is also recommended with fresh strawberries, honey almond granola and agave nectar, Pinkberry likes to call that combination Cherry Crumble. You can also try Cherry Pie, with a waffle cookie and strawberry puree. You can go for Cherry Macaron with coconut and toasted almonds. Or you can experiment and create your own concoction!

In addition to frozen yogurt, Pinkberry also offers fruit parfaits, fruit bowls, smoothies and waffle cookie sandwiches. Visit Pinkberry in Greenbelt 5, Alabang Town Center, SM Aura, Power Plant Mall, and SM Megamall Fashion Hall.

Master Game Face winners' once-in-a-lifetime experience watching Gilas in Spain

Hailed as the most valuable fans in the 2014 FIBA World Cup, millions of Filipinos from around the globe stormed social networking sites to show their support for Gilas Pilipinas. They also came in throngs to Seville in Spain to watch the national squad live as they competed in the world’s biggest basketball event.

Master, the #1 Men’s Face Care brand that gives an oil and pimple free look to all Filipino men with its Facial Wash and Face Cleanser ranges recently concluded the Master Goes to Spain Promo.  It was a special, one of a kind promotion where 5 lucky Master Face Care users won a trip of a lifetime - an all expense paid trip in Spain to watch the Gilas Pilipinas team compete in the FIBA World Cup last September 2014.

Among those who personally cheered and closely followed the FIBA  journey of Gilas Pilipinas were Master Game Face Goes to Spain promo winners Jose Clipper Besin, Michael Cleofe, Jeiel Guarino, Jerome Christopher Hernandez and Andrew Paul Peñaranda who all won an 8-day all-expense paid trip to Spain and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to watch the national men’s basketball team as they put their game faces on against Croatia, Greece, Argentina, Puerto Rico and Senegal.

Guarino, a communications officer, recalled how exciting the atmosphere was at the games especially with die-hard Pinoy basketball fans swarming the Palacio Municipal de Deportes de Sevilla. “Every Gilas basket, rebound, dunk, defensive stop, hustle and even opponents’ errors and mistakes were being cheered on regardless of the situation—whether we’re down big, tied or up by a point. It was an amazing experience.”

For Besin, a civil engineer, one of the most memorable experiences of the trip was personally watching how passionate Gilas Pilipinas was in winning their Senegal game. “In the last few minutes of overtime, with the game on the line and without Blatche inside, our team showed their real “puso”, not giving up even in the face of great odds.”

The Master Game Face Goes to Spain promo winners also had an exclusive meet-and-greet session with the country’s FIBA heroes. “It was a great experience meeting Gilas Pilipinas players, most especially Marc Pingris. He is a very nice person, cool and very accommodating. You will never see him tired from the game,” said Cleofe, an office employee.

“Many of the Gilas players were gracious enough to mingle with fans and had their photos taken. Despite a twisted ankle, Marc Pingris gamely posed for pictures with fans and even shared a few light moments with everyone,” Guarino added.

The five lucky Filipinos were all grateful to Master, the biggest male face care brand in the Philippines, for sponsoring their trip to Spain, which included a one-day tour of Madrid. “Thank you to Master Facial Wash for giving us this once-in-a-lifetime chance to watch our Gilas Pilipinas team play at the FIBA World Cup. I am definitely looking forward to more exciting activities from Master,” said Cleofe.

Animax Asia brings Parasyte -the maxim- across Asia on Oct.9

Animax Asia to simulcast Parasyte -the maxim- across Asia
Same-day-as-Japan telecast anime series

The world we know is about to change. Come October 9, worm-like alien creatures will slither their way into Animax’s airwaves as Parasyte -the maxim- premieres across Asia on the same day as Japan, in original Japanese audio with English subtitles.

Based on Hitoshi Iwaaki’s award-winning manga, Parasyte -the maxim- will infuse the late 1980s – 1990s classic with a modern edge by setting the stage for the parasite epidemic in present day Japan.

The story unfolds when Shinichi Izumi (voiced by Nobunaga Shumazaki, Photo Kano), an ordinary high school student, is attacked by an alien parasite. He narrowly escapes from being fully infected by a parasite known as ‘Migi’ (Japanese for ‘Right’), who only manage to assume control of Shinichi’s right arm.

This marks the beginning of their extraordinary friendship, as both Shinichi and Migi will learn to co-exist with each other. The plot thickens when they encounter other man-killing parasites and find themselves caught in the battle of the two species. With them being neither fully human nor alien, which side of the battle will they choose to take?

The horror-sci-fi themed series will deliver twenty-four solid and gripping episodes. The adapted anime is a Madhouse production (Hunter x Hunter, Cardcaptor Sakura), directed by Kenichi Shimizu with series composition put together by Shoji Yonemura (Death Note, Fairy Tail). With two live-action films also in the pipeline, the series is set to make a phenomenal impact on both television and the silver screen.

Behold and be ready, Parasyte -the maxim- will ‘take over’ the television screens before you know it.

Parasyte -the maxim- premieres on 9 October, airing on every Thursday at 11pm in a same-day-as-Japan simulcast, first and exclusively on Animax.
Animax is available on SKYCable Channel 46 and Cignal Digital TV Channel 34.

HEARTBREAKING FATHER-SON STORY UNRAVELS IN “THE JUDGE”

If the sins of the father are said to be visited upon the son, what of the sins of the son? That's the enigma Warner Bros. Pictures' new drama “The Judge” tries to address.

Slick Chicago lawyer Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.) is set to pluck his latest white collar client from the State of Illinois’ prosecutorial clutches when he receives a message that his mother has just passed away. Hank has no contact with his dad, and his mom is the one person in his family—in his entire hometown—with whom he had remained in touch for the past 20 or so years. She is the only one, her death the only event, that can draw him home. What waits for him in idyllic Carlinville,
Indiana, however, is much more than a memorial service, and far from a warm welcome. And before he can make his escape, Hank is called back to defend his own estranged father, the town’s venerable judge of 42 years, who suddenly finds himself on the wrong side of the bench.

“No matter how old we are, within five minutes of walking back into our childhood home, we are exactly who we were when we left there,” says director and producer of “The Judge,” David Dobkin. “We fall back into those routines; we’re subject to the same behavior and communication patterns of our youth, the same unspoken misunderstandings and unresolved issues, however great or small, which wind up driving us for the rest of our lives.”

Pairing acting heavyweights Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall for the first time, the film seeks to explore the role reversal we all face, whether through emotion or circumstance, of having to parent our aging parents and come to terms with our own personal history. How we, as adults, suddenly find ourselves in unfamiliar familial territory, and how even the best intentions don’t always lead us to take the best course of action or, ultimately, generate the best results.

The primary relationship Dobkin wanted to explore was one between a strong patriarchal father and the son who had left home years ago and who, due to an ongoing, seemingly irreparable rift between them, had never returned to face all the skeletons in his boyhood closet.

Robert Duvall, who plays the tough-as-nails judge Joseph Palmer, says he readily signed on because “it was a smart script, very well written with wonderful characters—definitely an actors’ film. On top of that, I felt the people involved would be great to work with. David really brought his own passion and commitment to it in a very positive way, so it was an enticing project for me.”

“Joseph Palmer is a man who represents the old world, the old guard,” Dobkin says. “He’s about honor; he believes that how a man walks through life has everything to do with where he ends up and how he is remembered. His legacy, that he helped people, that he protected an ideal, is important to him. Hank, on the other hand, believes you do whatever you need to do to get to the top, and once you’re there and as long as it was legal, it’s okay, even if it was manipulative. As long as the court tells him he wins, he doesn’t care if his client actually did terrible things, or whether he has to do terrible things to help his client. The law decides whether he’s right or wrong. His father views this not as something to be proud of, but as just more bad behavior from the rebellious teen Hank was growing up.”

Robert Duvall acknowledges, “The Judge would rather go to prison than lose his honor, definitely. And that complicates things for his sons, especially for Hank, who subconsciously thinks he’ll win his dad’s approval by winning the case.”

Duvall enjoyed exploring such a complex character. “He has many contradictions, like we all do in life. He’s a family-oriented guy, and he loves his sons, but he always left the showing of affection to his wife, and now she’s gone. So he’s very deficient when it comes to relating to them on his own, particularly Hank.

They’ve had no contact for years; everything went through Hank’s mother, so they don’t have a way of interacting. And the Judge has never really forgiven Hank for something that happened in the past—or if he has, he can’t admit it, not even to himself, I’d suspect. So he gave me a lot of interesting things to work with, to find within myself.”

Downey praises his co-star, “I learned a lot from watching him just be so still and yet so commanding. I’m completely the opposite, we have very different styles. We all did, really. I got to see all these different ways of working come together and really gel, and I came away with an even deeper respect for the work thanks to this experience.”

Duvall admired the younger actor as well, citing, “He’s very, very talented, and he was relaxed and in control of both his performance and his off-camera work as a producer, so it was a pleasure for me.”
Opening across the Philippines on Oct. 22, 2014, “The Judge” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Nick Dunne arrives home on his fifth wedding anniversary to find the front door ajar, furniture strewn in the living room and not a single trace of his beautiful, semi-famous wife.  Thus begins his instant public transformation from fortunate husband to man flailing in the media spotlight.  Tagged as the proverbial suspect No. 1, the former town golden boy erupts in a series of lies, deceits and inappropriateness that does him no favors.  His media persona is not pretty:  he has disappointments; he has resentments; he has the kinds of secrets that feed imaginations.  But is Nick a killer?

The entire cast, each of whom puts Nick under a different microscope – investigating Nick, defending Nick, suspecting Nick -- impressed Affleck.  He says:  “There are a lot of interesting choices.  Tyler Perry has never done this sort of character, Carrie Coon is so unexpected as Go, and Neil is a brilliant choice because he’s so fearless and you have no idea what’s really going on inside him.  This casting is the sign of a director whose interest is in always surprising the audience.”

Among the possible suspects in Amy’s disappearance are former boyfriends, including Desi Collings, Amy’s long-suffering ex from prep school who, though breathtakingly wealthy, has continued to write her lovelorn letters.  Taking the role is stage, screen and television star Neil Patrick Harris.

Harris gained notoriety on the small screen as the much-adored title character in “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” a role which also garnered him a Golden Globe nomination.  Created by Steven Bochco and David E. Kelley, the television comedy-drama ran for four seasons and told the story of a brilliant, young doctor who faced the problems of being a normal teenager.

Like so many, Harris was stunned by the novel.  “It was one of my favorite books of all time,” he says.  “I loved that Gillian was able to write so perceptively from the point of view of both sexes.  It was also among the most unsettling books I’ve read.  I felt it really broke down the myths of what relationships are and this whole fairy tale ideal that partners can always share everything.”

Desi, Harris notes, has his own fairytale ideas of who Amy is and how they might end up together.  “He’s somewhat delusional,” observes Harris.  “But your first lover never really leaves you and Amy was certainly that for Desi.  So he’s blinded by this undying idea that they’re meant to be.”

Harris notes that Desi is not alone in his reaction to Amy, though he has his own reasons.  “Amy seems to have a strong power over everyone in her life but especially men who desire her,” he says.  “She kind of sucks you into her vacuum.  I think Desi is a little socially off, so he likes the idea of that.  He’s rich but he’s the recipient of family money that was never earned so he doesn’t have a strong sense of himself.  I see him as weirdly fragile in his own right.  There’s something heightened about him, but I felt I really needed to understand why he behaves the way he does.”

Working with Fincher for the first time was also a revelation.  “I’ve been a big fan of what he has created on screen but watching him create in person made me even more so,” he says.  “He has such deep passion for the entirety of the filmmaking process -- from light refractions and dolly moves to pacing and the written word.  He is a true director in the most dynamic sense.”

Harris especially enjoyed Fincher’s way of peering into the infinitesimal details of performance.  “It felt like we were all in a kind of meditation together,” he says, “and you knew by the time David was happy, a scene had been distilled to its essence.  I think he’s a visual poet, nay, a sculptor.  He takes a moment and chips away until he gets at something true.”

Neil Patrick Harris  recently concluded his run as the womanizing Barney Stinson in the hit CBS comedy series, “How I Met Your Mother,” a role which has garnered him multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominations, as well as two People’s Choice Awards for Favorite TV Comedy Actor, and a Critics’ Choice Award for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.  Harris is a five-time Emmy Award winner for his guest-starring role on "Glee," and his role as host of the 63rd, 65th, 66th and 67th Annual Tony Awards. He also served as host and producer of the 61st and 65th Primetime Emmy Awards, as well as the 67th Annual Tony Awards.  Named one of the “2008 Entertainers of the Year” by Entertainment Weekly, Neil was included on Time Magazine's 2010 Time 100 List, an annual list of the world's leading thinkers, leaders, artists, and heroes.

Find out what happened to Amy in “Gone Girl” when it opens in cinemas nationwide on October 8 from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

NYOBG BARES ALL THIS OCTOBER AT PAGCOR

Looking for an exciting late night show? Drop by any Pagcor branches and watch Benj Bolivar, Carlo Sawit, Maui Lumba, PJ Go, Avery Paraiso, Kaye Chua, Junnel Manansala, Jennica Ollero, and Nicole Koffman in their Not Your Ordinary Variety Show (NYOVS) this October.

Catch them live on October 11 (Casino Filipino Angeles), October 16 (Casino Filipino Hyatt), October 25 (Casino Filipino Ronquillo), October 30 (Casino Filipino Pavilion), and October 31 (Casino Filipino Tagaytay).

“It’s going to be a fun, fun night. All the audience need to do is to take the backseat and enjoy the ride. The NYOBG will take care of the rest.” That’s how Benj described NYOVS this October.

Carlo shared that his excitement never diminishes despite the numerous shows they have done. “It always feels like the first time. You gotta have this kind of mindset so you will look forward to every performance and not think of it as pure work. Di naman nakakasawa because we have different themes each month. New clothes, new gimmicks, new music to pump up the crowd.”

Chinese cutie PJ admitted there are still a lot in store for the audience. “Kahit marami na kaming naipakitang performances, may ihihirit pa kami. We don’t run out of ideas to make NYOVS better each time. We thank our management, Backroom Inc., because of the relentless support we receive. Kaya naman lalo namin pinagbubuti ang aming trabaho.”

Maui added, “Siyempre we thank our fans and the audience. Iyong iba nga sa kanila, dinadayo pa kami kung saan kami nagpe-perform. We feel appreciated and loved. We’re thrilled when we hear good feedback. Nakakataba ng puso and we’re inspired to do better not only in NYOVS but in our respective careers. It also proves that we did the right thing by joining showbiz.”

Kaye is used to walking onstage – either as a performer or as a beauty title holder (the last one being a 3rd Runner Up and People’s Choice Award in Ms. Manila 2014). “Like I previously said in an interview, it should go way beyond having fun when it comes to your career. You should feel comfortable and be sure of yourself because when you are, what you’re doing won’t feel like work anymore and that’s what I feel when I’m on stage.”

Avery considers each show as an opportunity to improve himself as an artist. He said, “Marami akong pinaghuhugutan ng inspiration to be a better performer, at isa na rito ang NYOVS. I learned to work harder and to be more comfortable because of our Pagcor shows.”

Jennica enthused, “I want to gain more experience and exposure. I’ve made up my mind to grab all the opportunities knocking on my doorstep.”

So for those going to watch NYOVS this October, Junnel chortled, “It will be a fun-filled night full of surprises and music. Bawal ang kill joy! Dapat lahat ay masaya. Dapat lahat ay chill lang.”

Nicole promised, “We assure you that the shows are a feast to the senses – spectacular production numbers and highly-infusing beats. Everything is prepared to give only the best to the audience.”

Special guests are Krazy Chikz and other Pagcor artists.
