Cleaning your AC unit increases efficiency

We have survived the sweltering hot summer months and we are now officially in the cool rainy season. This may be the wet season but it comes with the cool breeze, with this we can take advantage of the cold weather, thus less consumption of electricity for ACs and time for our ACs to be checked and cleaned.

Furthermore, cleaning the AC’s filter will also be beneficial for the unit’s so-called evaporator coil and condenser which may collect dirt too when the filter is intermittently cleansed. So cleaning the evaporator coil greatly helps keep the AC unit cool if those are clogged after accumulating so much dust out of months and months of use thus it will reduce airflow and envelope the coil to such a degree that the ability to absorb heat shall decrease.

Conceding that the evaporator coil and condenser is habitually checked and cleaned, in effect can avoid the possibility of a damaged AC unit. Hence, it is eminently recommended to check the inside of the unit. Likewise, it is emphasized that the drain channels, where the water from the AC unit passes, are cleared away and monitored as well to circumvent clogged flow.

Remember, draining is a favorable practice to do constantly to ensure that the channels are good to go. PH cites improvement in ICT Performance

Various foreign indexes have noted an improvement in the state of information and communications technology (ICT) in the country which is attributed to the innovations made by telecom service providers (telcos) and the Philippine government to develop the sector.

In the latest survey conducted by the United Nations Public Administration Country Studies (UNPACS) among UN member-countries, the Philippines climbed 24 notches to rank 71st out of 193 countries in "e-government development.

The survey uses E-Government Development Index (EGDI) as composite indicator of the willingness and capacity of national governments to utilize ICT in the delivery of public services.



The country's latest standing is a significant improvement from its 95th rank during the initial survey done in 2014 that is based on three important dimensions of e-government, namely: scope and quality of online services (OSI), development status of telecommunication infrastructure index (TII), and inherent human capital.

On the other hand, a report done by Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world, cited a marked improvement in the development of ICT in the country.

The Philippines ranked 38th this year in the Huawei's Global Connectivity Index (GCI) 2016---up four places from last year's index---and even topped the Starters category. This category measures how 50 nations are progressing with digital transformation using ICT.

The country moved two notches up from its 2015 ranking with a score of 33 to lead the Starters category, which are countries considered to be at the early stage of ICT infrastructure build-out.

The focus of countries classified under the Starters category is on increasing ICT supply to give more people access to the digital world.

GCI 2016 also noted improvements in the number of homes with computers in the Philippines as well as in smartphone penetration and mobile broadband subscriptions.

Meanwhile, the Philippines hopes to further improve its standing in the global ICT Development Index (IDI) this year after gaining an upgrade in the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) list in 2015.

The country ranked 98 out of 167 economies in the world in 2015, an improvement of eight notches from year 2010 in the "Measuring the Information Society Report" released by the ITU yearly since 2009.

The 2016 report is set to be launched on Nov. 22 during the World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS) 2016 in Gaborone, Botswana.

Hopes are high that the Philippines will continue to put up a good showing in ICT development as the ITU report last year noted that levels of ICT access, use and skills continue to improve all around the world.

In the Asia Pacific region, ITU said middle-income countries, in particular, have shown considerable improvements in their IDI values between 2010 and 2015.

Improvements in the Philippine ICT sector could be attributed to the innovations made by telcos and the Philippine government to develop the ICT industry in the country.

The Philippine government, through the years, had developed ICT laws concerning electronic commerce, digital signatures, consumer protection which are responsive to the needs of the different stakeholders of the industry.

Telcos, for their part, have provided substantial investment in infrastructure. They have already started to transition from 3G to 4G in urban and business areas to address the demand for higher data usage. #

For the love of Piolo Pacual at HOOQ Hangouts

HOOQ HANGOUTS, the biggest outdoor cinema event series from HOOQ was held last September 23, 2016 at BGC and featured Pinoy love movie "Every Breath You Take" starred by Piolo Pascual and Angelica Panganiban.

The HOOQ event screening time says 6pm at BGC.  If you live in QC like I do,   give yourself one and a half hour to get to BGC via FX and MRT, but if you choose to bring a car which is suicide nowadays, double the estimated time to 3hours!  I know, I live around the area.

I left the house at 4pm, it was raining very hard and the traffic was worst.

I remember getting off to Ayala MRT Station at exactly 530pm. There were so many passengers/commuters walking and looking for transpo to get them to BGC including me! There was no cab plying around the area and the traffic was bumper to bumper. I wanted to walk to get to McKinley but after 30 minutes of contemplating on what to do.  The "habal" motorcycle that usually offers php40 flat rate tripled the rate to php150 and asked who wanted to get as fast as 20 minutes to our destination.  I checked my time and it was 7pm already. I hurriedly said yes and hopped at his back. What was I thinking?   And I rode Mr Evel Knievel himself. I remember praying for dear life from Ayala to BHS.  I never moved a thing, my butt literally glued to my seat. "Para kaming nakikipagkarerahan kay kamatayan". And long before I knew it. I got off at Central Square unharmed and alive. Hahahaha.  I was at the HOOQ Hangouts 15 minutes before the screening time. This is for the love of  Papa P.  The movie title said it all "Every Breath You Take", literally for me.

Philam Asset Management Inc. bags six awards from PIFA

Philam Asset Management Inc., (PAMI), the asset management arm of Philam Life, once again received acclaim as one of the country’s leading fund management companies after bagging six awards at the Philippine Investment Fund Association (PIFA) 10th Annual Awards Night.

The country’s mutual fund industry association, PIFA, in its annual awards recognizes the top performing mutual funds in terms of returns for one-year, three-year, five-year and ten-year periods.

The PAMI Horizon Fund, Inc. won first place in the 10-year return, peso-denominated balanced fund category. PAMI’s other peso-denominated balanced fund, the Philam Fund, Inc., won second place under the 10-year return in the same asset-class category.

The Philam Managed Income Fund, Inc. won 2nd Place in both the 3-year and 5-year return under the Money Market Fund Category.

Meanwhile, under the dollar-denominated Bond Fund category, the Philam Dollar Bond Fund, Inc. won third place in the 1-year return and second place in the 10-year return.

The ranking for the Most Astute Investors in Asian Local Currency Bonds is based on nominations received from nearly 500 top-rated individuals including analysts, economists and strategists, salespeople and traders in Asian local currency bonds. The nominations were based on their knowledge of the credits and markets, trading skill and acumen in making investment decisions. Based on the nominations received, the top ten Astute Investors with the highest weighted score are ranked by geographic location. The next ten names are considered in the ‘Highly Commended’ category.

The ranking for the top five investment houses in Asian local currency bonds is based on the number of votes received from the top-rated analysts, economist and strategists, salespeople and traders, for
investors in these institutions. Around 280 different institutions across the region including asset managers, insurance companies, banks and securities firms were evaluated to create the 2016 ranking.

The recognition is given by the Asset Publishing and Research Ltd., an integrated multi-media company serving the elite community of leading corporate and financial decision makers in Asia.
