7 Must-Hear Millennial OPM Artists from Sindikato Management

As someone who belongs to a generation of Rock and Roll, I think I’d always prefer rock bands over solo performers—there are exceptions of course like Ebe Dancel,  Johnoy Danao, Rico Blanco and Franco.

So I guess I’m one of those who are happy that there are a lot of new bands making the OPM scene a lot more interesting again just like in the 90’s and the Eraserheads Era.

                                                             Sud

                                                       Ben&Ben

A few weeks ago I wrote a story about a band called Crib, and just last week I was invited to the launch of Sindikato—a new management company that handles bands—both new ones and some, like Kean Cipriano and Callalily who have already established quite a following.

I also admit that I feel more in love with the thought of being in love because of the cheesy, but catchy millennial songs that my partner and I listen to when we’re driving and surprisingly were from the bands that are being managed by Sindikato.

This generation of musicians with a raspy and cool voice and a mushy lyrics inspire everyone who are in a relationship, brokenhearted, moved on or separated with the way they sing or interpret their songs.

Among the songs on our current playlist are Kathang Isip from Ben&Ben

Kathang Isip - Ben&Ben

This is one of the breakup songs that will make you remember everything with your ex.  This is "The Write Moment's " OST.  I forgot about this until I attended Sindikato's event lately.

I love the lyrics especially the part

"Kaya't pasensya ka na

Sa mga kathang isip kong ito

Wari'y dala lang ng pagmamahal sa iyo

Ako'y gigising na

Mula sa panaginip kong ito

At sa wakas ay kusang lalayo sa iyo"

It’s a song for those who have been friendzoned or have yet to accept that its time to move on and meet someone new and wake up from their “illusion” and false hopes.

Another is Sana Bumalik from Sud. This is also one of the breakup songs for those who has not moved on yet. Love the intro music and the lyrics. Tagos na tagos sa puso lalo na dun sa part na

"Sana di ko na maalala, lahat ng  tawa mo't halik, sana dumating ang araw, Na di na ikaw, pero ikaw pa rin"

                                                         Hulyo

Then there’s Kahit Isang Saglit- Hulyo. This band reminds me of Sugarfree. Yung banat ng mga kanta and lyrics silang sila. Lalo na with this song.

                                                            Fern
And then there’s FERN, Fern who is only 17 y/o write and co produced this single "Into You" which sounds like it was from a foreign artist plus the music video has an 80s vibe which I like.

                                                       Callalily

"Para sa lahat ng taong nagmahal, nagtiis, nasaktan at naghintay magbago yung taong pinakamamahal nila at sa dulo ay nagpatawad."-Lemuel Belaro, Callalily Drummer. Written by Lemuel Belaro. Kean Cipriano’s band is still dishing out new songs and this new single will easily make your playlist.

                                                       Unit 406

Sindikato launched a new generation of OPM talents last July at 12 Monkeys, El Pueblo QC. and through the mini concert and their performances are reassuring that OPM will always be thriving thanks to creative new talents.
=========

Before the Internet, musicians were experienced live or seen on MTV. These days, if an artist has no online presence, they might as well be invisible.

Thankfully, SINDIKATO is no stranger to all these platforms. With years of video production experience that cross over generations, SINDIKATO has trained its eye for great talent.

Now, they welcome a growing roster of artists.

                                                Sindikato

SINDIKATO started in 2006 with a group of college buddies who shared a passion for video production. From creating short films and original content, they ventured into music videos for various local artists. Even as they gained traction with brand advertising projects, SINDIKATO continued to work with musicians.
With one foot already in the door, perhaps it was inevitable for SINDIKATO to enter the music industry. Currently, they manage the careers of some popular and emerging artists: CALLALILY, SUD, BEN&BEN, HULYO, FIGHTING RIVER BLINDNESS, UNIT406, and FERN.

According to SINDIKATO General Manager Edzon Rapisora, they have always loved collaborating with artists. “One of the reasons we decided to delve into talent management is that we didn’t want to be just a video production house that creates music videos for musicians. We aim to do bigger things for the people we work with, even for artists outside the music industry.”

“What’s best about us is that we’re Pro-Artist. We want to give opportunities to our talents and we let them use our platforms; we let them use the skill set of SINDIKATO to help them grow their craft. We believe in their abilities and we want them to spread their talent so that more people can appreciate their music,” shares Enzo Valdez, SINDIKATO’s Chief Executive Officer.

Beyond managing their talents, SINDIKATO aims to be a partner to each of their artists in making an impact and influencing the world through their music. The company’s primary goal is to capture a global audience for their artists.

                                            Fighting River Blindness

SINDIKATO reflects the commitment and determination of their artists – and their big require big movers and shakers. With their skills and knowledge, SINDIKATO Management fights to earn a place on the world stage.

Waterproof your homes easier with JDI’s Super Thoroseal and Waterplug this wet season

Before the wet season reaches its peak, now is the best time for homeowners to waterproof their abodes. Begin by checking your homes for leaks and cracks—and patch these up before further damage which requires costly repairs.

Leaks and moisture accumulation in the home can cause damage to walls, ceilings, and floors and weaken and rot ceilings. Flooring may also peel off and bathrooms and toilets can have ugly, icky-looking watermarks. Worse, concrete walls in the house or the basement can have leaks that can cause more cracks.

The good news is, trusted industry leader Jardine Distribution Inc. makes waterproofing your homes easier with Super Thoroseal and Waterplug.

Super Thoroseal, a superior solution that offers long-term protection, is a cementitious type of waterproofing in non-toxic formula.  It can be used in all concrete structures like fish ponds, firewalls, basements, toilets and bathrooms, roof decks, and even concrete water tanks.

Super Thoroseal works by seeping into and bonding permanently with the concrete, becoming one with it and effectively sealing pores so that water and moisture are not absorbed. It can also be applied even on wet surfaces.

Complementing Super Thoroseal is Waterplug, a fast-setting hydraulic cement that has a mechanical characteristic similar to concrete. Waterplug is non-toxic and very strong. Once it is set and bonded with the concrete, it can withstand a force of up to 1,500 pounds-per-square-inch (PSI). In comparison, an open faucet has a force of about 40 PSI. Waterplug can also be used to seal cold joints and even anchor bolts of gates and other fixtures.
Keep your homes protected from water damage at the onset of the rainy season with JDI’s Super Thoroseal and Waterplug. For more information, visit www.jardinedistribution.com.

Wrestling fans in the Philippines can rejoice as FOX+ exclusively stream WWE Raw live every Tuesday beginning 17 July at 8 am.

This is good news to us WWE/Raw fans. For they are back again this time on FOX+! So set aside some time and watch your favorite wrestlers this coming July 17! Cant wait for Alexa Bliss!

Have you ever seen a pro wrestling match? No, I’m not talking about wrestling in college sports or wrestling in the Olympics with the suspenders and the ear muffs. I’m talking about the WWE. Enjoy the spectacle, watch the drama, and relish the glory! TV becomes an action-packed experience, fights become wild and out of this world, and wrestlers change from men and women…to larger than life heroes!

People from all walks of life look up to their wrestling heroes. From young kids gawking at the TV screen to grown men screaming live at the front row of a cage match, watching the WWE and Monday Night RAW is an experience unlike any other. Even the wrestlers themselves came from fans to actual wrestling champions!

Many of the current WWE stars all started from the same place that we did. They were students in schools, varsity players in school sports, and people taking the bus in the street. The journey to the WWE and the Monday Night RAW stage can be long and hard. But many still climb the ladder and reach for the top. And who wouldn’t? The WWE is the biggest and brightest platform in professional wrestling!

Take WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar for example, he waded through many different chapters in his life before finally calling the WWE his home. He was a signed NFL Defensive tackle, he was a competitive mixed martial-arts fighter in the UFC, and now he claims the title of being the longest-running Universal Champion of the WWE!

Even the ladies claim their dream at the WWE! Alexa Bliss currently holds the title of being the RAW Women’s Champion. Take note, she’s one of the meanest female superstars which the WWE has seen in a long time and she has achieved a lot in a very short space of time. Alexa is also the first woman in the history of the WWE to win both the SmackDown Live and Raw Women Titles.

The WWE is certainly larger than life. And although we now know that pro wrestling is a rehearsed sport with scripts and trained athletes, we still can’t stop watching it! The flare, the action, and the drama are all what makes the WWE a one-of-a-kind spectacle that people all over the world enjoy. Who knows, maybe one day your path will lead you to the biggest pro wrestling stage in the world, the WWE!

In addition to the Raw live every Tuesday, the same time as the U.S., FOX+ will stream on demand WWE weekly highlight shows Afterburn®, Experience® and This Week®. FOX+ is available on Android and iOS devices as well as on Apple TV and select Android TVs. Start your free 30 day trial now and stream your favorite and latest American TV series, Hollywood blockbusters, inspiring National Geographic documentaries, and live Sports anytime and anywhere. Running in the rain at The Robinsons Supermarket 11th Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run

Its that time of the year, when Robinsons Supermarket holds their annual Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run.  I've been part of their buddy run for the last 3 years and its one of the more fun runs because you have to be with a buddy until you cross the finish line, making it a "couple" effort of sorts.

I have been running for  the past 3 consecutive years with my buddy/partner Ed Uy of whereiseduy.com. This year was supposed to be even more special as it would be the first time I'd be partnering with my daughter Angel, however, the weather had other plans.

We woke up at  230AM and dressed up hurriedly, as we wanted to get a good parking space near the grandstand. Last year, we parked 5 blocks away from the venue and we were forced to walk that far carrying our huge and heavy loot bags. We decided to come early.  We arrived at 330AM and found  a good spot we even had time to take a nap, but we were awakened by the sudden heavy  downpour.

The rain continued even when it was already time for the gunstart and the organizers had to check the safety of the course before allowing the runners to begin.

They decided to push  through but had to disable the racing chips for the safety of the runners. Although we were a bit  drenched going around the various booth we decided not to continue  as it was very cold.

My grandson Finn was also just recovering from cough and though he was excited to run, we all decided it would be better to just wait it out and stay at the stage area and watch the program.

Celebrity endorsers Mikael Daez and Jessy Mendiola graced the fun run while Celebrity fitness trainers Jim and Toni Saret hosted the event.

Robinsons also gave everyone their  heavy loot bags even if most of us didnt finish the race. In all it still turned out to be a fun even and Im hoping next year would have a better weather.

The loot bags contained lots of freebies from Nestle, Johnson & Johnson, Wyeth Nutrition, Abbott Nutrition, Fonterra and Unilab.

The fun run is in line with Robinsons Supermarket’s wellness commitment to continuously encourage more people to choose and live healthier lifestyles.

Find out more about the wellness commitment and other activities at their official website at www.robinsonssupermarket.com.ph or like their official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/RobinsonsSupermarketofficial.

Crib launches first self-titled album at The Music Hall

Rock can mean many different things to different folks but I only realized just how many different kinds of rock music as I was writing this article.

Now I know about new wave, punk, alternative, classic, grunge, indie rock, , brit rock, hardcore, and even a bit of punk rock and heavy metal, but I only realized that some of my favorite songs actually belonged to a subgenre called AOR or Adult Oriented Rock.

Doesn’t sound familiar?

Well if you’ve heard of Asia, Boston, Foreigner, Journey, Survivor and the hit songs of Toto—that is exactly what AOR is all about.

AOR first emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s as an amalgamation of Rock, Hard Rock and Progressive Rock. It is characterized by a rich, layered sound, slick production and a heavy reliance on pop/rock hooks, which led to its huge popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

And now AOR is making a comeback at the OPM scene nonetheless with the new band called Crib.
Crib,  the newest band to hit the music scene, recently launched their first self-titled album last July 6 at the Metrowalk Music Hall.

The band was actually formed 8 years ago and their music influences are songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s with the likes of Toto , Stevie Wonder, Fra Lippo Lippi.

Its also the reason why they decided to call themselves Crib explaining that most of them were still babies or toddlers when their favorite songs first played on air.

The  six-member band is composed of TJ Sarvida, a young entrepreneur-turned-Crib's frontman. Mike Caleda, on keyboards and vocals,  Dard Enriquez, on lead guitars, Mark Decena, on bass, Rancis de Leon on sax, and Bogs Bautista, on drums.

Mike Caleda, composed most  of the songs in their album "Crib" including the carrier single is "Di Inaasahan".

But at the media launch, it was their song "Ibang Araw Na Lang" that actually grabbed my attention, which I think is also the most catchy and easiest to recall. It was easily my personal favorite. I love how they arranged the song and Rancis classical take on sax. It reminded me of Side A, and showcases their jazz influence.  Their songs are now available on Spotify.

The band is also characterized by a rich layered sound slick production and a heavy reliance on jazz and pop rock hooks. Crib's music are almost soul-driven. catchy and very often includes harmonized vocals.  The songs are more melodic than straight ahead the regular hard rock but not as nearly as light rock. Their edgy and classy sound made them more distinct than other bands today.

About the band
TJ Sarvida, a young entrepreneur-turned-Crib's frontman. TJ has joined in some of ABS CBN and GMA‘s singing competitions making him a veteran in that field.

Meanwhile, most of the songs in the album were composed by its keyboardist and also on vocals, Mike Caleda. He started playing the piano at age three. Since then until now, his skills made him work with top singers and musicians in the country as well as a veteran in rapping and battle emceeing.

The band's lead guitarist, Dard Enriquez, on the other hand, finished Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Major in Marketing) in Philippine School of Business Administration. He helps in managing the business of his family while he plays in the group.

Another guitar player in the band is Mark Decena, took up and finished Advertising in University of Sto. Tomas. He is a graphic artist during the day while a bassist during their gigs at night.

The band's saxophonist, Rancis de Leon, has worked with both international and local artists as a sessionist. He also teaches in University of the Philippines College of Music. Rancis also finished his music course in the same university.

Completing the band is drummer Bogs Bautista who is also a Physical Therapist by profession. He has also worked with big artists in the country as a sessionist.

Crib is under Glass Onion Entertainment. The same management who handles Paolo Santos, Pido Lalimarmo, Thor Dulay and Jimmy Bondoc with Al Henson as the team's manager.

For more details about Crib, you can check out their Facebook page (the music of crib) and Instagram.(@Cribmusic)
