Lamoiyan Corporation donates 3 million worth of hygiene products for DepEd’s Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan

Lamoiyan Corporation, a leading manufacturer of personal hygiene and home care products in the country, has donated over three million worth of Lamoiyan products to Department of Education (DepEd) as it celebrates Head Lice Awareness Month and 5th year of Kilusang Kontra Kuto (Movement Against Head Lice) initiative.

In support of DepEd’s Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan amidst the pandemic, Lamoiyan Corporation distributed packs of Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo, Hapee Toothpaste, and Dazz Dishwashing Liquid to selected regions for distribution among the students.

Selected regions in Luzon are Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and National Capital Region. Whereas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Davao are the beneficiary regions for Visayas and Mindanao.

Lamoiyan Corporation’s Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo initiated Kilusang Kontra Kuto in 2016, a coalition that has been battling head lice infestation nationwide for a kuto-free Philippines. The campaign includes yearly nationwide shampoo activity in schools in its commitment to fight head lice infestation or pediculosis and eliminate the social stigma associated with it.

DepEd NCR School Health and Nutrition Unit Head Dr. Genapayao as they received the donations from Lamoiyan Corporation.

In light of the 5th year of this initiative, Lamoiyan Corporation’s Licealiz aimed to support DepEd’s Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan in the time of COVID-19 (BE-LCP). This is the department’s response to the challenges posed by COVID-19 which covers the most essential learning competencies, multiple learning delivery modalities for teachers, school leaders and learners, required health standards in schools and workplaces, and special activities like Brigada Eskwela, Oplan Balik Eskwela, and partnerships.

“We are grateful for the Department of Education for being very supportive of our Kilusang Kontra Kuto campaign. With our long-running partnership with DepEd, we were able to visit several schools, do shampooing activities among students, and share the correct way of combatting head lice since 2016,” said Lamoiyan Corporation Vice President for Marketing Bing Cavestany.

“Although students now are practicing distance learning and we temporarily cannot do our annual activities due to the COVID-19 crisis, Licealiz would like to consistently promote health and personal hygiene through our humble donation as children or even family members are still susceptible to head lice infestation no matter the circumstances, especially with many staying at home and in close quarters during the pandemic,” she added.

Aside from encouraging good oral hygiene, Lamoiyan is also advocating the correct way of treating head lice infestation, which is considered the second most common health problem of public school children after tooth decay.

Lamoiyan Corporation’s Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo effectively kills lice and nits after two weeks of use and prevents lice infestation from recurring. Its active ingredient, pyrethrin, a natural extract from chrysanthemum flowers, is clinically tested and proven safe and successful in killing lice and nits, while its conditioning formula keeps your kid’s hair soft, smooth and fragrant.

Century Pacific Food, Inc partners with Friends of Hope to donate quality seedlings to small holder coconut farmers

Century Pacific Food, Inc. through its coconut manufacturing arm Century Pacific Agricultural Ventures, Inc. (CPAVI), has signed a partnership with Friends of Hope to donate quality seedlings to smallholder coconut farmers -- enabling the planting ofproductive coconut trees and the replacement of non-fruit-bearing senile ones in South Central Mindanao.

Century Pacific Food donates seedlings to coconut farmers in Mindanao, helping enhance their livelihoods through increased productivity.

In addition to expanding long-term coconut supply in the region, planting the coconut trees will sequester about 416,680 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions over the next eight years. As a result, CNPF’s coconut subsidiary aims to be “carbon-neutral” by 2028.

Under the partnership, CPAVI will provide coconut farmers 100,000 coconut seedlings a year for the next five years, with Friends of Hope overseeing their distribution to farmer families and ensuring that the seedlings are given the proper care. Friends of Hope is a non-profit organization with expertise in coconut-based farming systems, as well as growing coconuts and other intercrops. Since its establishment in 2012, it has reached almost 10,000 farmers, providing them access to better seedlings, facilitating end-to-end trainings on coconut and intercrop production, and helping reduce costs by linking farmers directly to markets.

2000 dwarf seednuts were given to Sitio Macnit, Brgy. Nomoh, Maasim, Sarangani Province. Pictured here is one of the beneficiaries from the IP community, Ms. Dona Fanding.

The joint initiative between CPAVI and Friends of Hope will expand long-term coconut supply in South Central Mindanao and helpprovide additional income to some 16,000 families in the area. As its need for the coconut raw material rises, CPAVI also plans to onboard partner farmers as suppliers, giving them market access for their products.

Noel Tempongko, Vice President and General Manager of CPAVI, said, “This initiative is a unique opportunity to help our community, our planet, and our business all in one go. Coconut farmers in Mindanao get the benefit of improved quality and productivity of their farming, as well as market access to their products due to our growing company requirements. We are also able to offset our carbonemissions as a result of this project and, at the same time, ensure a more sustainable supply source of coconuts for our company. We look forward to continue showcasing the quality of Philippine coconut products, proudly made in Mindanao, to the rest of the world, whilst helping our environment and community of coconut farmers in the process.”

Christopher Po, CNPF’s Executive Chairman, added, “I am personally very excited about this project which allows us to augment the livelihoods of our farmers, enhance the supply of quality coconuts, and achieve a milestone of carbon neutrality for our coconut business. At the same time, the initiative supports our ambition to manufacture healthier products, and our vision of growth whilst doing business in a more sustainable and responsible way.”

Through the wholly owned subsidiary CPAVI, CNPF entered the coconut business initially as an integrated manufacturer of high-value coconut products for exports, in line with its pivot towards manufacturing healthier products. Its entry into the category began with an ongoing long-term contract with a leading global coconut brand. Recently, the Company also signed a long-term contract exporting coconut products to the Linaco Group, a leading regional coconut producer headquartered in Malaysia.

Upgrade your meal with Barrio Fiesta condiments

The last time we dined in at Barrio Fiesta was last year. We certainly miss their home-cooked dishes like my personal favorite Kare-Kare with bagoong. Yum! and of course  their merienda buffet with spreads like ginatan, pancit, dinuguan with puto, lumpia and sopas.

Since everyone is looking for essential products like their specialty condiments at supermarket.

Barrio Fiesta recently launches food products  like sauteed shrimps, tabasuk, sauces, spreads, chicken breading, snacks and other products to spice up your everyday dishes.

Prime Global Corporation (PGC) is taking on the “new normal” with optimism as it leverages Filipinos’ rekindled love for home-cooking and the rise of the home-based food delivery business amid dine-out and movement restrictions to boost sales of its Barrio Fiesta products.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has crippled businesses across industries, this Filipino brand has found a silver lining—pushing through with an expansion plan despite challenging times.

Adjusting to a changed food business landscape, Barrio Fiesta has recalibrated its sales approach, upping its online presence as it continues to diversify its product portfolio, from its top-selling shrimp paste to new sauces, spreads, dry mixes and snacks.

“Fortunately for the packaged food category, we are seeing growth opportunities still as people continue to remain at home, opting for home-cooked meals and seeing the rise of ‘home chefs.’ We anticipate that the ‘new normal’ will continue to bring about more interest, creativity and enthusiasm for lutong-bahay recipes, and we want to be there for them,” said Reychelle Ann Gigante, PGC Marketing Head.

Through its social media pages, Barrio Fiesta is providing Filipino cooks lutong-bahay recipes and tips, noting the many that are still locked down at home are shifting their budgets to home-cooked meals while small entrepreneurs have gone into the online food business in place of lost livelihood.

This is where PGC saw an opportunity to help while selling its products in the safest possible way: no on-site promotional events and mostly a virtual interface with its target market.

“All on-ground activities have been cancelled, current digital content efforts have been geared towards engaging our online audience with useful recipes and tips using our products, and recently we opened our Facebook page to online bulk orders for those who would be interested to resell Barrio Fiesta products within their community,” Gigante said.

PGC has also shifted to digital marketing, seeing greater spending on online promotional ventures as the pandemic continues.

At the same time, it maintains presence in physical stores—its primary trade channel—to cater to Filipinos who still opt to shop outside. Barrio Fiesta products are available in supermarkets, groceries, convenience stores, drug stores and sari-sari-stores.

While we very much acknowledge the important role that e-commerce has played during the new normal, we also understand that there is still a great need for general and modern trade or supermarkets and groceries and it is very much essential for us as well as it still caters to Filipinos who opt to shop in brick-and-mortar stores. For us, it won’t be one or the other, as this multi-channel availability will allow us to reach our customers in the most convenient way possible,” Gigante said.

PGC counts on the Filipinos’ familiarity with its heritage products to remain as the go-to brand for staple condiments even amid the rise of artisanal, home-made brands, given the scope of its production and distribution reach.

“We are aware that there are small online entrepreneurs selling specialty or artisanal bagoong and condiments, and this just goes to show how huge and dynamic the food market is,” Gigante said. “As for specialty condiments, at the moment, Barrio Fiesta is the only brand able to produce and distribute its products at scale commercially, across local and international markets, while maintaining high quality and authentic taste, made possible with a strong business model.”

Barrio Fiesta commands a 65-percent market share of the local sautéed shrimp paste category and 95 percent of the international market 2019.

“Our goal this year is to further dominate the category in both domestic and international markets. And in the next three years, we aspire to be among the top local companies in the sauces, dressings, condiments and package foods categories,” said Vincent Ace Villa-Real, President and Chief Operating Officer of PGC.

“The Barrio Fiesta retail brand is one of the few remaining Filipino heritage brands whose equity can cut across the broad spectrum of the culinary and food industries. We intend to make the most of the equity. We can’t be a single product company; category expansion whether organic or thru external synergies is a given,” Villa-Real said.

">The manufacturing business of Barrio Fiesta sautéed shrimp paste was acquired by the Ang-Hortaleza Corporation through a subsidiary in 2011. The brand is now under Prime Global Corporation, a manufacturing, marketing and distribution subsidiary company owned by the Hortaleza Corporation holding company.

Earlier this year, it released its own version of everyday condiments and snacks: the Barrio Fiesta Gourmet Series Patis (fish sauce), Barrio Fiesta Tubasuk (spiced sugar cane vinegar), Barrio Fiesta Crispy Joy Breading Mix, Barrio Fiesta Peanut Butter Spreads, Barrio Fiesta Chicken and Beef Broth Cubes, and Barrio Fiesta Jumbo Roasted Peanuts.

“We are optimistic because Barrio Fiesta is a very strong retail brand offering products with superior taste, quality and value supported by a vision and a business model that is anchored on strong fundamentals,” Villa-Real added.

Emerging e-Industries reap benefits from PLDT's increased network build up

Leading industries have turned to technology to survive the economic pivot to the “new normal” with the Philippines’ largest and only integrated telecommunications company PLDT aiding organizations and businesses to adapt and thrive in the current challenges of the pandemic.

Discussed during the second virtual Tech Talks forum streamed in partnership with OneNews, PLDT highlighted key solutions and services that have helped catalyse digital transformations of e-Industries including e-Learning, e-Banking, e-Commerce, e-Government, and e-Health.

“We, at PLDT-Smart, are in the business of nation-building. It is precisely this conviction that fired up the virtue of Malasakit in our every endeavor. The changing Philippine economic landscape has inspired us to reframe our business objectives and strategies. In fact, a big part of our CAPEX is being allocated to improve our services so that these may be accessible and relevant to more Filipinos,” shared Smart President and PLDT Chief Revenue Officer Al Panlilio.

“We are now starting to see how e-Learning is transforming education as we know it, how e-Banking will further enable financial inclusion, how e-Commerce will help revitalize our economy, how e-Government will accelerate our country’s Smart City transformation, and most importantly, how e-Health will allow our nation to combat this pandemic,” he added.

The live forum tackled the challenges of each e-industry and highlighted technological solutions that help rebuild these sectors and move forward.

The education sector has been one of most impacted sector from the changes in the practice of learning and teaching. In helping learners continue their education remotely, the Department of Education’s (DepEd) has implemented a blended learning experience integrating digital, broadcast, and printed module teaching methods for students at home. One of the resource persons for the e-learning segment, DepEd Undersecretary Alain Pascua, shared his insights on the benefits of merging the different platforms to deliver education much better moving forward.

PLDT, together with Smart, has offered several e-Learning solutions to help aid this transition which include opening free access to the DepEd Commons website as an official resource of learning modules for teachers and students.

PLDT launched BEYOND FIBER that help address the basic connectivity needs to provide quality education to institutions while Smart launched the Giga Study plans that provide data allocation to learning apps specifically tailored for students and their educational access needs. ePLDT has already provided over 248,000 Microsoft for Education licenses for the academe and students to utilize.

“The current set up has its challenges but what we have in place is changing the landscape of education. We are excited to see how this new set up will allow us to take local education to the next level. We recognize the challenges of making this shift and we at PLDT are committed to make e-Learning a reality for every single student,” said PLDT Enterprise Revenue Group Head Vic Tria.

Electronic banking has gained traction due to the pandemic with payments and digital transactions seeing a surge in the past few months covering the pandemic. Showing growing adoption of e-Banking in the country, Online Bills payment, government transactions, and digital purchase payment have become a necessity rather than a choice.

“Studies have shown that the Philippines is above the global average when it comes to digitally transferring money. PLDT and Smart are fully committed to support the banking industry and believe that we play a key role in sustaining the digital momentum of this industry,” shared PLDT FVP and Head of Enterprise Core Business Solutions Jojo Gendrano.

PLDT covers the importance to have a reliable process automation and integration in place through applications such as Microsoft, SAP or Salesforce, while securing the operations center through ePLDT’s cybersecurity services. Financial institutions also need to look into resilient systems to boost operations through the cloud with SDWAN and Data Center services.

e-Commerce has seen a major boost during the pandemic which has helped sustain the operations of businesses and MSMEs. With transactions and purchases now seeing adoption online, consumers are more discerning hence businesses need to have an Omnichannel approach to better engage with their customers.

PLDT VP and Head of ICT Business Nico Alcoseba points out that consumption behaviors have been irreversibly reshaped and businesses need to focus on three principles to succeed in e-Commerce: make the platform easy to use, establish end-to-end delivery and immediacy, and ensure security as business is always about trust.

Government has also seen digital solutions to help disseminate information, and providing public service. PLDT’s suite of Public Sector Solution solutions give e-Government the technological support it needs to improve Community Engagement and ensure public safety such as Online payments gateway, Citizen IDs, Smart Wifi in public centers, Contact Center Solutions, CCTV Surveillance, and Emergency 911 dispatch systems. It also offers collaboration and operational efficiency to enable work-from-home set ups for government employees while ensuring service availability and cybersecurity to be able to access records securely and easily from anywhere.

On the other hand, eHealth has become central due to the pandemic. PLDT has partnered with various health organizations and hospitals help provide the best solutions to deliver healthcare services and ensure safety of healthcare workers.

PLDT Enterprise Revenue Group Head Mitch Locsin provided the eHealth roadmap that has benefitted the eHealth industry that will support the fight against Covid19 and help improve healthcare. Solutions geared toward providing safer and wider access to e-Health services include online consultation and remote monitoring to help patients and doctors appointment despite their physical presence. Focused solutions on management of healthcare records can better patient outcomes as PLDT’s solutions help innovate new practice and methods for smarter use of Patient data and strategic documentation.

Through technology, PLDT’s cybersecurity, integrated system solutions, and collaborations solutions can help ensure a secure and efficient healthcare system to sustain the delivery of e-Healthcare.

As the country continues to battle and adapt to the changing landscape brought about by the pandemic, businesses, government, and consumers have greatly benefitted from PLDT’s continuous investment in building and further future-proofing its network to deliver the growing digital services and connectivity to better cope and thrive through this crisis.
