Which Shopper Are You?

A survey conducted by Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, revealed four types of online shoppers in the Philippines and their motivations for shopping online.

 

Shopee surveyed more than 3,000 Filipinos and found that value is the most important factor for online shoppers, with 42% of respondents stating that they are driven by the best deals and prices. 71% of them are females, ranging from 18 to 34 years of age.

 

There is also an emerging segment of consumers who prioritize shopping from their favored brands online. More than half of these brand lovers are around 25 years oldshowing how brand loyalty is becoming key to the online shopping experience for younger demographics.

The four key types of Filipino online shoppers are:

 

1) The Sulit Shopper - Decisive shoppers who hunt for the best deals

 

42% of respondents are Sulit Shoppers. They prioritize finding the best deals and prices before making an online purchase. These shoppers are patient and take the time to research products, but act quickly when they discover deals they like. 

 

Key characteristics: 

 

      Decisive buying: 66% browse a maximum of just five items before making a purchase

      Deals seeking: 62% don’t typically plan purchases in advance—they shop whenever they see big discounts on products they’re eyeing

      Regular shopping: Half of them buy something online at least twice a month

 

Sulit Shoppers can rejoice at the 7.7 Mid-Year Sale, which offers non-stop deals and discounts. They can save money on shipping, get discounts, and claim cashback at the Vouchers Sale on July 6. 2) The Shop-and-Go Consumer - Shoppers who enjoy the convenience of delivery to their doorstep

 

For a lot of Filipinos, online shopping’s main draw is convenience. 17% of shoppers surveyed turn to online shopping for its ease and safety. More than half of the shoppers in this community are 30 years old. They know what they want to buy and do not necessarily spend extra time on the app, but will often make impulse purchases if they stumble upon good deals.

 

Key characteristics:

 

      Quick decision-making: 64% browse through a maximum of five listings before they find what they're looking for 

      Proactive shopping: Almost one in two do their own research on products by either searching online or chatting with sellers

      Frequent shopping: 45% shop online twice a month on average, making them one of the most frequent purchasers

3) The Budol Shopper - Window shoppers who can also be spontaneous buyers

 

Making up 14% of respondents, the Budol Shopper refers to window shoppers who value variety and choice of products. Compared to the Sulit Shopper, the Budol Shopper browses more items on average, and are also more likely to spontaneously check out a product that catches their eye.

 

Key characteristics:

 

      Impulsive buying: 63% will buy an item because they felt like doing so at the moment

      Frequent browsing: 27% of window shoppers usually browse up to 15 items before each purchase

Suki Buyers make up 12% of respondents, and they shop online because they can find their favorite brands easily. Unlike Sulit Shoppers, shoppers who prioritize finding the best value, brand fans are less price-sensitive. Instead, they value having a large variety of brands to choose from, as well as accessing perks and loyalty points from brands they follow.

 

Key characteristics:

 

      Regular shopping from brands: 62% of them purchase from their favorite brands as frequently as twice a month

      Brand familiarity: About 1 in 4 follow their favorite brands on social media in order to stay informed of latest product launches

Huawei Carrier BG CMO Bob Cai delivered a keynote speech titled 5G + AR, Turning Dreams into Reality

At Huawei's Better World Summit for 5G + AR, Huawei Carrier BG CMO Bob Cai delivered a keynote speech titled 5G + AR, Turning Dreams into Reality. In this speech, Cai said that 5G will switch on AR, and AR will light up 5G. He also announced the release of the AR Insight and Application Practice White Paper, which offers insights into the AR industry in terms of devices, applications, and networking. Cai called on the entire industry to work together for a prosperous 5G + AR ecosystem.

AR creates a new frontier

Huawei and third-party data predicts that the AR market will be worth US$300 billion by 2025. "AR will first see massive adoption in five prioritized industries: education, social networking, shopping, traveling & navigation, and gaming," said Cai. "AR can truly enable the convergence of the physical and digital worlds, making dreams a reality."

 

AR makes communication more efficient

At the event, Cai shared case studies of Huawei employing AR. Due to COVID-19, customers from across the globe are unable to visit Huawei in person, so Huawei makes use of AR to demonstrate its leading products and solutions online, making communication far more efficient. Huawei also uses AR to achieve the quick delivery of 5G base stations, greatly boosting delivery efficiency.

 

Huawei simplifies AR

At the event, Cai demonstrated how Huawei "produces" AR. Huawei's Air Photo uses unique algorithms to convert a 2D photo into a digital 3D model, considerably simplifying AR 3D character modeling. Cai also introduced Huawei AR Engine, the company's AR development platform oriented toward mobile devices. With Huawei AR Engine, developers need to write only 10 lines of code to create AR effects, hugely increasing the efficiency of AR application development.

 

The entire industry should work together to create a 5G + AR ecosystem

A number of high-profile guests attended the event and delivered keynotes, including He Chengjian, Director of Shenzhen Communication Management Bureau, David MacQueen, Executive Director of Strategy Analytics, Huang He, Chief Producer of Shenzhen TV Station, Wei Rongjie, RealMax CEO, Hiroshi Fukuda, meleap CEO, Liang Jinhao, representative of HADO China Region, and Fu Jie, Executive Director of Shenzhen AR Association. They shared the latest AR use cases and their thoughts about AR's future trends.

Nestlé Philippines are intensifying their initiatives to address the plastic waste crisis in the country

There is no denying that one of the greatest environmental challenges the world faces today is the plastic waste crisis. Globally, the Philippines is the third largest source of ocean plastic waste.


Fortunately, more and more Filipinos are becoming more conscious of their lifestyles and are starting to adopt sustainable choices and decisions to reduce their carbon footprint and plastic consumption. 


Companies like Nestlé Philippines are intensifying their initiatives to address the plastic waste crisis in the country.


“As a food and beverage manufacturing company, Nestlé Philippines is committed to tackle plastic waste as an urgent priority in all stages of its value chain. In time for World Oceans Day, Nestlé PH launched the Isabuhay sa Bahay Challenge to empower its employees to take a more active role in helping care for the planet by accomplishing different tasks. Participants’ takeaways from the session included practical ways to cut down waste at home; the importance of segregation, and the types of waste that fall under the recyclable, residual, and biodegradable categories; and lastly, the methods and benefits of composting. More than just practicing these activities at home, Ms. Oposa encouraged the attendees to extend their efforts to the community by supporting sustainability efforts of corporations and organizations like Nestlé, reaching out to people in authority when needed, and influencing others by example.


For Nestlé PH, addressing the complex challenge of plastic waste requires support from key sectors and partners, including consumers.

 

Towards making a waste-free future a reality, the company is engaged in various efforts that encourage a change in behavior. Among these are the development of solid waste management education modules endorsed by the National Solid Waste Management Commission. These modules have been rolled out to thousands of public schools for grades 1-10 students through Nestlé’s partnership with the Department of Education under the Nestlé Wellness Campus program. Condensed versions of the modules are also available to parents and teens for use at home.

Nestlé has also established collection points in collaboration with its partners where people can take their plastic waste for further processing, so they do not end up in landfills. In partnership with Plastic Credit Exchange, collection points have been set up in SM Malls in MOA, SM North Edsa, and SM Fairview.
