Ninja Van PH continues to push its customer-first agenda with the launch of DIGeCONOMY Bootcamp Series

Tech-enabled express logistics company, Ninja Van Philippines, continues to push its customer-first agenda to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in the country. With the launch of the DIGeCONOMY Bootcamp Series, business owners can learn valuable insights and first-hand knowledge from industry experts to help them overcome the challenges of transitioning towards digitalization and maximize opportunities in the digital space.

“The Philippines is the fastest growing market in the region and this has been driven by strict lockdowns caused by the pandemic, which led to businesses having to adapt and shift their transactions online. Here at Ninja Van Philippines, it is our mission to supercharge MSME growth in the digital space. We believe that Filipino businesses can further reach their potential with the help of these advancements and technology,” said Sabina Lopez-Vergara, Chief Commercial Officer of Ninja Van Philippines.

During the first learning session, speakers from the public and private sectors shared insights on how MSMEs can better build their brand online

Through multiple legs, the DIGeCONOMY Bootcamp Series will follow the digital transformation journey of SMEs and MSMEs—from building and growing their brand online to maintaining brand affinity among customers. Last March 22, the first leg of the series already began with a learning session that centered on developing a customer-centric brand for MSMEs and its importance as well as the available tools and solutions they can utilize to stay competitive in the digital market. It featured Ms. Nelly Nita Dillera, CESO III, Executive Director of the Department of Trade and Industry - Philippine Trade Training Center (DTI-PTTC); Ms. Kim Sabala, Founder and Managing Owner of Cold Gold; and Mr. Edward Cruz, CEO of ATOZ as the speakers.

Government support

Venturing into e-commerce is more than just presenting and selling products online. DTI-PTTC Executive Director Nelly Dillera ran through the end to end e-commerce management services that MSMEs have to know. From marketing management to data analytics and customer service, all of which are important for their businesses to be successful.

“The PTTC-GMEA (Global MSME Academy) has programs that can assist you on the different processes that I’ve mentioned. Our coverage includes business development, accounting and finance, and other business functions that support MSMEs,” Dillera said. “You can also visit PTTC’s website for self help training programs and further assistance on how you can progress more in your business.”

DTI has also compiled a list of TechTools that MSMEs can use to boost their businesses including e-commerce platforms/resources, e-payment channels, digital marketing solutions, and logistics providers like Ninja Van Philippines.

Branding essentials

Once you have all the tools and training to effectively run your business online, the next thing you have to do is focus on your branding. Founder and Owner of Cold Gold, Kim Sabala, shared how she grew her businesses to what they are today by maintaining consistent branding across all channels using three essentials: brand guide, social media strategy, and content calendar.

A brand guide helps you define the essence of what makes you stand out from your competitors. It involves identifying your target audience, mission and vision statements, unique selling proposition, core values and brand stylistics. On the other hand, having a social media strategy is important in knowing what works for your business goals and what doesn’t through social listening and setting key performance indicators (KPIs).

“From there, we can test, refine and evolve our practices to better work for our goals. Not having a strategy is like shooting in the dark. When you aim for nothing, you hit nothing,” she said.

Finally, your content calendar must include the type of content you want to deliver to your consumers, your preferred platform/s, a timeline, and some key events to make your content more relevant. Once you’ve done all these, you can begin implementing your plan and growing your brand.

Customer journey

According to the CEO of ATOZ and long-time Ninja Van shipper Edward Cruz, one of the most neglected processes when it comes to e-commerce is mapping the customer journey. “For us in ATOZ, we make sure that every data that is coming in the platform has an engagement whether it’s pre-purchase or after purchase.”

Customer journey begins with awareness of the product, which is a customer’s first engagement with your brand. From there, you can deepen the customer’s understanding of who you are and what you offer through influencer marketing and more advertisements that will drive consideration and finally, turn customers to buyers.

After purchase comes retention. “After the customer purchases from you, you have to re-engage them because at the end of the day, the first purchase they make on your platform will not really result in big profits. But if you have good retention, it’s very easy to re-engage those customers through email, SMS and social media content,” said Cruz.

The customer journey ends with loyalty where businesses get to deepen their relationship with their customers and really drive home the message, they want to instill to their customer base. Mapping out the customer journey can help MSMEs deliver better customer service and maximize every customer interaction, which can be advantageous for their brand.

Watch out for the next DIGeCONOMY Bootcamp Series learning session for this leg happening in May! Visit facebook.com/ninjavanph for updates and more information.

Smile Train Celebrates Women’s Month with Smile Train Ambassadors

To commemorate this year’s National Women’s Month as well as International Women’s Day with the theme #BreaktheBias, Smile Train, the world’s leading cleft-focused organization, celebrates women who empower others to go against bias and stigma brought about by physical differences, and promotes a more welcoming and inclusive society for all individuals born with a cleft.

Individuals born with a cleft lip and/or palate often experience bullying and are subjected to stigma based on their physical differences. They face these difficulties on top of other challenges such as difficulties in eating, breathing, and speaking.

“Creating an environment that is welcoming and non-judgmental underpins our advocacy of helping those born with a cleft lip and/or palate. Our goal is not only to provide them with the proper cleft care treatment and services, but also to join others to help eliminate the bias and stigma they face,’’ shared Kimmy Coseteng-Flaviano, Vice President, Smile Train South East Asia.

Woman to woman: Smile Makers share messages for NWMC

Celebrity Smile Makers

In time for the National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC), Smile Train Global Ambassador Catriona Grayshared how Smile Train in the Philippines has supported over 65,000 free life-changing cleft surgeries. She shared, “We want to [deliver] treatment to girls and women, to give them the confidence and opportunities they need to pursue their dreams. Together we can all create a world where difference is valued and celebrated.”

Long time Smile Maker Marian Rivera expressed that all the women who have created an impact on one's life should be celebrated since they have given care and guidance especially to those who are struggling with cleft. “This Women’s Month, we should continue to fight for our rights as women,” shared Rivera. Barbie Forteza also wished to bring the spotlight on all the women in the cleft community, such as doctors, nurses, social workers, dentists, and other medical professionals who have impacted the lives of children with clefts as well as their families.

Smile Train Partners

Smile Train partner and anesthesiologist Dr. Ny Arizala said, “The role of women in today’s world can never be undermined. Let’s recognize and celebrate the outstanding contributions of women in improving access to cleft care here and around the world.” Smile Train supporter and Endurance runner Marge Camacho also expressed, “In today’s world where women have overwhelmingly shown we can do anything we put our minds to, there is no room for bias and discrimination. Let’s work together to empower and enable girls born with a cleft who continue to face stigma and difficulties.”

Smile Train Patients

Smile Train Volunteer and real estate professional, Cris Magallanes

From once being a Smile Train patient and beneficiary, and now a real estate professional and Smile Train supporter, Cris Magallanes shared “Sa Buwan ng Kababaihan, isulong natin ang isang mundong malaya sa diskriminasyon, kung saan lahat ay tinatanggap nang walang panghuhusga. Kasama ng Smile Train, tuloy kong susuportahan ang mga tao at mga babaeng may cleft upang maranasan nila ang mapagtanggap na buhay at marating ang kanilang mga pangarap.”

(For Women’s Month, let us advance a world free of discrimination, where everyone is accepted without judgment. With Smile Train, I will continue to support people and women with clefts so that they can experience a welcoming life and reach their dreams.)

Smile Train patient, baby Lexine with mommy Noelyn Solano

(I salute all the women, especially the mothers of children with clefts, who continue to work hard and sacrifice to provide a better future for their children. I am grateful to Smile Train and all its partners for helping us achieve that dream for our children.)

“We are thankful for the women in our organization, especially the mothers of those with clefts, who continue to encourage and support us and of course their children. It is through their encouragement that we can create an environment that is welcoming and accepting. It is our Smile Makers — women volunteers, mothers, and ambassadors, who help normalize cleft as a medical concern that can be treated through surgery, rather than it being a source of stigma and bias,” said Flaviano.

While it is a continuous journey to fight the stigma brought about by cleft, Smile Train wishes to create life-changing experiences that can empower women through positive changes in their body. Through their cleft treatment and services, Smile Train works toward a more inclusive and welcoming community for women in the Philippines.

BDO declares 20% Stock Dividend and hikes Authorized Capital

The Board of Directors of BDO Unibank, Inc. (BDO) held its Board Meeting on March 26, 2022 and approved the declaration of stock dividends equivalent to 20% of the Bank’s outstanding capital stock, as well as an increase in its authorized capital stock (common shares) from 5,500,000,000 to 8,500,000,000 shares, and the amendment to the Bank’s Articles of Incorporation to reflect the increase.

These will be presented and endorsed for approval to stockholders at the Bank’s Annual Shareholders’ Meeting to be held virtually on April 22, 2022

The stock dividend declaration is a testament to BDO’s commitment to continue investing in the business and provide consistent, steady returns and value to its shareholders. Shareholders will gain additional shares which they can keep for the long-haul and grow in value, or in case they need liquidity, sell through the stock market at their discretion. The additional shares from the stock dividends will also be eligible for future cash dividends which the Bank regularly declares. Record and payment dates of the stock dividends shall be fixed and disclosed after approval by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, within the periods provided by law.

Meanwhile, the increase in the Bank’s authorized capital stock provides the Bank flexibility to increase its capital during periods of rapid organic growth or in the event of inorganic opportunities. This will allow BDO to continue to expand its business, strengthen its franchise, and deliver quality earnings to position the Bank for long-term sustainable growth.

The Bank’s ability to expand its business is dependent on business conditions and the Bank’s financial position.

PLDT Home Biz awards mompreneurs with the most inspiring success stories

No word better can describe moms pouring out their resourcefulness, creativity, and heart to provide their families the best life possible than madiskarte. The pandemic only saw more of our madiskarte moms, many of whom have ventured into online businesses to augment their household income.

Recognizing these moms and their invaluable entrepreneurial spirit, PLDT Home Biz held the inaugural Gawad Madiskarte online on March 8, 2022 — just in time for International Womens Day. Hosted by PLDT Home Biz ambassadors Dominic Roque and Roxanne Montealegre, with performances from Jed Madela, Fana, and Gigi de Lana and the Gigi Vibes band, the event awarded six mompreneurs whose stories of hard work, tenacity, and success stood out among 327 entries from all over the Philippines.

Each Gawad Madiskarte winner received a P100,000 cash prize, a brand-new laptop, and a one-year PLDT Home Biz Asenso Fiber Plan among other major prizes to help further her online business.

What turned out to be an unexpectedly emotional tribute to Filipino moms who have moved past adversities and written their own success stories of online entrepreneurship, Gawad Madiskarte 2022 is a landmark project of Madiskarte Moms PH (MMPH) — a community of mompreneurs for mompreneurs created in the thick of the pandemic.

"Providing Filipinos, especially mompreneurs, with the confidence to reach for their dreams and make a difference not only for their families, but also in the community, has always been our mission in Madiskarte Moms PH and PLDT Home Biz," said Patrick S. Tang, Vice President and Head of PLDT Home Customer Management. "We're honored to share the inspiring stories of our Madiskarte Moms and we strive to be their steadfast ally through every challenge and in every success."

From (L-R) Rommel Kristian Madrigal (Husband of Abigael Madrigal, Diskarteng Solid winner), Wvon Der Hendrich A. Adolfo (Husband of Kaylynn Adolfo, Diskarteng Malikhain winner), Rosanna Kabiling, Diskarteng May Pusowinner, Theresa Carbonel-Buenaflor, Diskarteng Digital winner and Rachelle Patalud, Diskarteng Malikhain winner

With hundreds of entries received for this first awarding, Gawad Madiskarte followed a meticulous selection process and commissioned a group of reputable judges to help choose the winners. The judges boasted industry leaders and master entrepreneurs: Butch Jimenez of PLDT Inc., Undersecretary Blesila A. Lantayona of the Department of Trade and Industry, Annette Gozon-Valdes of GMA Films, Prep Palacios of Google Philippines, Issang Ceballos of Facebook Philippines, restaurateur and chef Happy Ongpauco-Tiu, and Potato Corner and Tokyo Tempura founders Jorge and Jenny Wieneke.

Meet the Gawad Madiskarte winners

Diskarteng Digital (Best Multi-channel Business) awardee Theresa Carbonel-Buenaflor was already a seasoned entrepreneur even before joining MMPH during the pandemic. She had been running Ellana Mineral Cosmetics — a beauty and personal care brand known for its clean, vegan, and cruelty formulas — and came to realize the need to pivot digitally given the threat of the pandemic. With the support of fellow mompreneurs and MMPH, Mommy Theresa was able to expand and sell her products across different platforms including physical stores and e-commerce stores. She has now amassed more than 300,000 followers on her online pages, earning her the aforementioned Gawad Madiskarte recognition.

This award is so dear to my heart because I joined this group when I was feeling lost doing business during the pandemic. It has not been easy, and Ive been looking for a community to lift my spirit up.  Sharing my story in MMPH was very therapeutic. It renewed my hope and it made me realize that I can inspire other mompreneurs,” Mommy Theresa said, upon accepting the award.

Mommy Lou NeriaPutian of skincare brand SY Glow, winner of Diskarteng Angat (Fastest-Growing Business), shares a similar story. An entrepreneur advocating effective but affordable beauty products, Mommy Lou started her business from scratch and then scaled up her business to include distributors and resellers from the MMPH community. She now registers an average sales revenue of P1.6 million a month.

For her efforts toward helping the environment while providing employment in communities across Laguna, Mommy Rosanna Dela Cruz Kabiling of waste management company Something Nice Environmental Corp. won the Diskarteng May Puso award (Best Social Enterprise). With the Gawad Madiskarte prize and recognition, Mommy Rosanna is poised to transform her company into a world-class” brand that promotes sustainability.

Winning the Diskarteng Eco-friendly (Most Green Business) award, Mommy Kaylynn Adolfo owns The Asian Mommy Facebook page where she sells a variety of reusable cloth diapers. Armed with a background in public health and using her page as a platform to share other parenting tips and tricks, she has made it her advocacy to redirect fellow parents to more eco-friendly household alternatives.

MMPH as a community is such a big help because opportunities like these are where we can inspire and motivate other moms to reach for their dreams. To all mommies out there, this is the sign that you can do it,” Mommy Kaylynn said at the event.

Meanwhile, Diskarteng Solid (Strongest Start-Up Business Model) awardee Mommy Abigael Madrigal started out her online bed linen shop Mommy Matters by selling bedsheets her mother had sewn. With the help of MMPH, she was able to get her first customers and eventually expand her brand. Mommy Matters now boasts more than 100 bed linen designs and keeps a loyal customer base, earning Mommy Abigael the Gawad Madiskarte honors.

As the owner of CLARA, an online clothing store whose Filipiniana designs feature detachable butterfly sleeves, Mommy Rachelle Patalud has shown how creativity and flexibility makes a good fashion statement. For her modern and casual take on a formalwear classic, she has earned the Diskarteng Malikhain (Most Innovative Product) trophy — awarded to creative minds breathing life to fresh and unique products and services.

On top of the winners, PLDT Home Biz also honored Mommy Lou Neria Putian of skincare brand SY Glow with Diskarteng Home Biz (Mompreneurs Choice Award). The brand awarded the special prize to the madiskarte mom, hailed for having the “most potential for success” in a voting poll among MMPH members on its Facebook community page.

Each Gawad Madiskarte awardee also took home a KalyeNegosyo Scholarship courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. KaAsenso - Jorge and Jenny Wieneke – and a trophy handcrafted by award-winning sculptor Glenn Cagandahan. Nominees, meanwhile, each won a P25,000 cash prize as consolation.

Madiskarte Moms PH, beyond educating moms and equipping them with business tools and resources, has evolved into a support group of women, inspiring and encouraging each other as they tread through their digital adventures together. Were nothing but proud of what MMPH has accomplished in just 17 months, and so we look forward to what more we can accomplish together in the future!” Tang shared.

Believe me, Madiskarte Moms PH is just getting started. And Gawad Madiskarte 2022 is just the start of a bigger campaign by us here at PLDT Home Biz — all in celebration of the Filipinos exceptional entrepreneurial spirit,” he added.

Launched in September 2020, MMPH has become a safe online space for mompreneurs seeking out resources, tools, and support to start or grow their online businesses. Now with over 104,000 members and a growing YouTube channel, the community has become a wellspring of inspiring stories of moms who embodied hard work and diskarte in making their dreams happen even beyond the pandemic.

Universal Records is proud to honor Gloc-9’s astounding impact on the Filipino music scene throughout his illustrious career. This year, the iconic “Makata sa Pinas” marks his 25th year in the industry and as a grand celebration, he is slated to release a brand-new album which will be called “Pilak”.

“Alam kong bawal tumigil at hindi dapat huminto, ‘Yang ang payo ko sayo para di ka mabigo. Salamat sa lahat ng nag bukas sakin ng pinto. Ok nako sa pilak kahit na di maka ginto”

And this March, Gloc-9 proudly releases the title track of his anniversary album, which encompasses a mixture of powerful storytelling about his unrivaled hustle and learnings for two and a half decades and enchanting hip-hop melodies. With pure emotional honesty, the veteran rapper also thanked his solid supporters over the years who helped him achieve all the accolades and milestones that he reached. There’s no denying that “Pilak” is a song borne from the heart of a very thankful seasoned artist.

His fans will surely enjoy the song’s seamless barrage of metaphors and verses that only he can deliver. As usual, Gloc delivers another poetic masterpiece which was further heightened by the musical arrangement, mixing and mastering by Thyro Alfaro and cover artwork by CLMRarts. The official music video helmed by director Edrex Clyde Sanchez is also out now on YouTube. (WATCH HERE)

The song is a very appreciative circumspect of his artistic journey which started with a dream, and paved by sweat, blood, and tears – all of which led to his eventual day in front of the klieg lights, the accolades, and the many awards that followed. As they say, "success is in the journey" and it truly is.

This gave Gloc-9 a better appreciation of what he has now as he stands front and center with contentment and thankfulness in his heart. A very inspirational message to young artists who are now trekking their own paths to glory.

With “Pilak”, Gloc-9 proves that he still has a lot of gas left in the tank and he’ll surely deliver a bona fide hit if he wants to. You have to start streaming this brand-new single right now!

AirAsia Philippines guests are expected to depart and arrive via NAIA Terminal 4 from April to May 2022

AirAsia Philippines is all set for the restart of its domestic operations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 4. The world’s best low-cost airline sees the reopening of the terminal  as an indication of the strong recovery momentum of the travel industry.

The Manila Domestic Passenger Terminal, which has 26 check-in counters and a departure area with a seating capacity of 969 guests, officially reopened today, 28 March 2022, after a two-year hiatus. Consequently, all AirAsia Philippines domestic flights to and from Manila will operate from hereon at  NAIA Terminal 4, while all international flights will remain at NAIA Terminal 3.

Around 235,000 AirAsia Philippines guests are expected to depart and arrive at NAIA T4 in the first two months of the resumption of its operations.  The world’s best low-cost airline also anticipates this figure to increase given the Holy Week and summer exodus which starts next week.

AirAsia Philippines Chief Executive Officer Ricky Isla said, “The return of domestic operations to NAIA Terminal 4 is a strategic move in managing the expected influx of passengers at Terminal 3 in the coming months. This will optimize overall airline operations from check-in to boarding, helping airlines to significantly improve on-time performance."

AirAsia Philippines’ transfer to NAIA T4 is expected to benefit its guests as check-in procedures are made easier, utilizing 12 check-in counters and four AirAsia check-in kiosks to perform contactless transactions by scanning QR codes of flight bookings from mobile devices.  Guests only need to check-in online to generate a code, which will activate the kiosks automatically. Guests are also no longer required to use aero bridges or undergo bus transfers to board the aircraft.

"We consider foot traffic and increased passenger volume as happy problems for us in the airline industry. We've been preparing for this for the past months. We encourage our guests to check their booking itinerary to avoid confusion. Our domestic flights may be operating from a different terminal but we apply the same stringent measures to ensure guest safety and convenience with our multi-layered approaches to safety," Isla added.

Foot traffic of passengers at T4 is expected to benefit not only the local industries of their destination, but also small and medium enterprises around T4 such as restaurants, convenience stores and travel & tour agencies.
