Ortigas Malls kicked off its yearly Christmas tradition

Ortigas Malls kicked off its yearly Christmas tradition, the Greenhills Night Market at GStrip on November 4, 2022. The event was organized by Ortigas Malls to welcome the holiday season at Greenhills Mall, the ultimate destination for shopping, entertainment, and dining.

“Greenhills Night Market has always been synonymous with Christmas shopping and the opening signals the start of holiday preparations for everyone,” said James L. Candelaria, AVP, head of trade fairs & exhibits of Greenhills. “Generations of Filipinos grew up shopping at the Night Market with their parents and now with their own families.”

@lola_lamon Its the most wonderful time of the year as @Ortigas Malls Greenhills welcomes the holiday season at Greenhills Mall. #ortigasmalls ♬ It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year - Andy Williams

With this year’s theme “Merry Moments,” the Greenhills Night Market is the place-to-be where families and friends can share festive experiences during the holiday season. Adding to the merry mood are the colorful parols that illuminate the Night Market and the rest of Greenhills to welcome the many holiday shoppers.

The opening ceremony was attended by San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora, who addressed guests, patrons, and sellers in his speech. He also explored the Night Market to check out the stalls and their wares. Ortigas Malls also spread Christmas cheer to children of Greenhills’ security maintenance and medical frontliners of Greenhills Mall by distributing gift packs as part of the program.

Ortigas Land Chief Finance Officer Davee Zuniga, and VP and Head of Corporate Resources & Horizontal Development & Estates Atty. Michael David Abundo III, San Juan Councilors, with Vice Mayor Warren Villa, AVP Greenhills Mall Operations and Head of Trade Fairs & Exhibits, Mr. James Candelaria, Ortigas Malls VP Arch. Renee Bacani, San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora and his family, and members of the Ortigas Family.

“Here in Greenhills, we are family, and that’s how we value one another. Nobody gets left behind and we all move forward,” Candelaria said.

One of the Night Market’s main attractions are the food stalls, where visitors can enjoy a wide variety of cuisines after a long day of shopping. From grilled food, filling rice meals, and drinks, among many others. Families and friends can enjoy their meals comfortably at the al fresco dining area in the venue.

Shoppers can also find a plethora of affordable products at the tiangge. It has an abundance of locally made fashion apparel, Christmas decors, toys, and so much more. It’s the ideal spot to complete their Christmas shopping.

Kids are welcome to explore the Night Market as well. There will be exciting carnival rides where parents can accompany them. Late-night visitors can experience a party-like vibe while checking out stalls with live DJs playing lively music. To amp up the holiday fun and add more color to their evenings, visitors can watch fireworks displays on all Saturdays of December.

Ortigas Malls is expecting a large volume of people to visit Greenhills and the Night Market during the holiday rush. But Candelaria assured the public that all participating merchants are fully vaccinated and following strict health protocols. Security officers are also patrolling the area to ensure the safety of shoppers and that everyone is observing proper health procedures at the Night Market. Although wearing of face masks outdoors and indoors is voluntary, visitors and mall goers are still encouraged to wear their face masks to ensure their safety.

“It’s time to make new Christmas memories and traditions at the Greenhills Night Market with your family this season, happy moments that  they will always remember and pass on to the next generation,” Candelaria said.

The Greenhills Night Market will run from November 4, 2022 to January 8, 2023, from 4pm onwards at GStrip Parking. Live DJ performances and kids’ carnival rides will be there to entertain visitors every night. Fireworks displays are scheduled on all Saturdays of December.

Time is Ripe to Talk About Revenge Travel and Get Exploring in Tinder

It’s time to let the cat out of the bag: hopping on Tinder, the number one dating app in the world, to look for a travel buddy is a perfect dating hack the online dating world may have been keeping from you. It's the perfect time to cast a light on this dating hack as Pinoy hodophiles have been on a revenge travel mode.

Yes, revenge travel is a thing! People across the globe are pumped up to make up for lost times after lockdowns halted their plans for two years. Suffice to say, there’s no stopping Pinoy travelers from exploring the world once more. But there is so much more to it than meets the eye. Travel enthusiasts have been expressing their intent to finally get out of the virtual world, meet new people and finally satisfy their need for human connection IRL.

Papri Dev, Head of APAC Communications at Tinder said, “Tinder today is all about sparks and human connections that are often formed through shared interests. Although romance is essentially still what many members use Tinder for,  many of them are also on the app to look for platonic or other forms of relationship. This, perhaps, is the reason why many singletons turn to Tinder to look for travel buddies. And we are happy to be the platform that gives them the safe space to explore how connections and sparks fly for them.”

Welcome to Tinder Explore

Forget about tweeting “LF: travel buddy” and welcome to Tinder Explore! Tinder has made it easier for Pinoy daters to score a match with someone who shares the same interests. There are a few Interests on Tinder Explore to hop onto and look for a travel date for your next adventure.

Easily the home to globetrotters, Wanderlust is the best Interest to join in to look for someone to travel the world with. The potential matches from this group are possibly always seconds away from packing their things and have their merry way to wherever with you.

Pinas muna? Not a problem. You’ve probably been dying to explore the Philippines. It’s not a stretch to say that the entire archipelago is waiting for you. Hop on Nature Lovers to look for someone to discover hidden gems with. Thrill Seekers is your best bet for some adrenaline-induced activities anywhere in the Philippines.

Here’s a pro-tip to make your search for a travel-date more exciting: you can either include in your bio your travel plans or make it more thrilling by matching with a fellow traveller first before spontaneously deciding together which place to explore.

Meet Tinder Passport

It’s not your typical passport, nope. It’s more powerful than that. It requires no verification by the bureau of immigration. It lets you meet people from the other parts of the country (or the other sides of the world) even if you’re not there yet.

It’s magic.

It's science.

It’s, Tinder Passport.

Tinder Passport is the 21st century power that solivagants didn’t know they must possess. Getting information ahead about the destination straight from a local is arguably better than google. Tinder Passport does just that by allowing you to pin your location anywhere in the world and match with locals at your destination – indeed, the perfect way to know the best places to visit, activities to experience and food to try before you get there. If you’re lucky, you might get a place and a tour guide for free!

Tinder Keeps You Safe

Travel-dates are more fun when it’s safe. Tinder has built-in safety features to keep dating experiences more memorable. Made especially for the LGBTQIA+ members, Tinder has Traveler Alert that warns them of potential dangers when they are in a country that criminalizes their gender identity and/or sexual orientation.

There’s no denying that revenge travel has prompted people to unleash the globetrotters, rovers, roadies, and wayfarers in them. Give in and explore! Don’t forget to make it more exciting by hopping on Tinder and putting this dating hack to a test.

Five things you can do to prevent flu

With this year’s flu season being accompanied by slowly rising COVID-19 cases, experts remind us that staving off the flu virus typically begins with common practices that families can do at home.[1]

“It’s important to ensure that our personal spaces are free of transmissible diseases like the flu. Contrary to popular belief, the flu is caused by a virus different from the common cold so symptoms tend to last longer and are more severe,” says Dr. Gyneth Bibera, Country Medical Director of GSK Philippines. “Patients will experience the typical runny nose, coughing, headaches, fevers, and fatigue, but the severity can often lead to the inability to do daily tasks, the need for doctor consultations, or even hospitalizations,” she adds.

Here are five things you can do to prevent flu:

Disinfect frequently touched surfaces. Influenza viruses can survive outside the body and generally stay active longer on steel, plastic, and harder surfaces than on fabric and softer materials. They have been known to survive for 24-48 hrs on hard non-porous surfaces, and 8-12 hrs on cloth, paper, and tissues.[2] Regularly disinfecting these surfaces with a household cleaner containing soap or detergent will help stop the spread of the virus, more so if someone is or has been recently infected at home. Focus on areas that are frequently touched, such as door handles, light switches, faucets, stair rails, or tables.

Toss your trash everyday. Many communities have weekly or biweekly garbage collections, but it’s worth making a point to dispose of trash everyday. Keep a wastebasket outside of the home, in a garage, or by the front gate. This prevents contaminated items and germs that cause respiratory illness, like flu from lingering inside the home.[3]

Launder your linens regularly. Sheets, blankets, or pillowcases that are used daily may become infected by viruses. This is especially true if an infected member of the household recently used the linens. Changing and washing sheets on a weekly basis with hot water, can kill flu viruses that are present. This is because flu viruses are killed by heat above 75° C.[4]

Practice good hygiene. Personal hygiene is one of the best ways to prevent the flu. This includes washing hands frequently, particularly after coughing or sneezing, after using the bathroom, before and after handling food, or after coming in contact with someone sick. It also includes not sharing personal items such as pillows, towels, utensils, and the like. Of course, covering the mouth when coughing, taking regular showers, and other basic hygiene practices are also necessary.[5]

Get your flu vaccines. The World Health Organization recommends that flu shots be administered once every year, which is applicable for both adults and even children when they reach six months old. Getting annual flu vaccines significantly reduces the risk of contracting the flu virus. [6]

Alongside practicing proper measures and being mindful of the environment to protect one’s home from the virus, having updated flu vaccines is the best way to keep oneself safe. “Although flu cases really tend to rise at this time of the year, each individual and communal effort within the household will do a lot to protect the health of the wider community and keep overall flu numbers down,” says Dr.  Bibera. “We encourage all Filipinos to talk to their doctors and get their jabs done because it’s us and our own efforts that will help keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.”

Cebu Pacific received the Asia Environmental Sustainability Airline / Airline Group of the Year from the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation

Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB) received the Asia Environmental Sustainability Airline / Airline Group of the Year from the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) for its leadership in sustainability performance in the regional aviation industry.

CEB, the Philippines’ leading carrier, was recognized for its ongoing integration of various sustainability programs across its day-to-day business, as well as its continuous collaborations with industry stakeholders to drive adoption of green initiatives with the regional industry.

Xander Lao, Cebu Pacific chief commercial officer, received the award at the aviation summit’s evening gala on November 3. Lao also spoke at a panel session about CEB’s recovery.

“We are honored to be the pioneer recipient of such an award which should help encourage an even greater push and recognition of sustainability’s importance,” Lao said.

Even before the pandemic, CEB has begun its sustainability journey through its early investment in fuel-saving aircraft. By 2028, it intends to operate an all-NEO (New Engine Option) fleet, allowing the airline to remain true to its commitment to provide low fares, while becoming more efficient and environment-friendly.

“The Philippines is among the top countries at risk of adverse impacts of climate change so our commitment to sustainability has evolved over time. Cebu Pacific is among the first low-cost carriers in the world to adopt carbon emission reduction initiatives. We are committed to investing time and resources to become the greenest airline in Asia,” said Mark Cezar, Cebu Pacific Chief Finance Officer.

This year, the airline has also beefed up its sustainability initiatives as it started using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in its aircraft deliveries. On September 28, it operated its first SAF-powered commercial flight, becoming the first Philippine carrier to incorporate SAF in its commercial operations.

CEB intends to make SAF a permanent part of its operations through aircraft deliveries from Airbus. By 2030, it targets to use SAF across its commercial flights.

“We have a long way to go to achieving the target of net zero by 2050 and we need our partners to commit, so we all succeed and create meaningful change. We encourage everyone to join us on this journey,” Cezar said.

Safeguard shows Students and Teachers How To Prevent Germs With Handwashing

Recently, Manila Water Foundation went live on Facebook to celebrate Global Handwashing Day with its partners, P&G Safeguard, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Prior to the Facebook Live, Safeguard kicked off the celebration face-to-face with the local government of Quezon City, one of #SAFEWash program’s biggest beneficiaries. P&G’s flagship brand emphasized how important consistent proper hand hygiene is in keeping the safety of both children and school administrators is, especially with safety restrictions being lifted. For this reason, Safeguard is committed to making sure that every school has access to handwashing facilities. With the culmination of the construction of the 285 handwashing facilities, P&G Safeguard, along with its partners, was proud to announce that the National Capital Region (NCR) is on track to having all of its schools star-rated in the DepEd Wash in Schools (WinS) program.

Why Handwashing is Important

During Safeguard and MWF’s Global Handwashing Day livestream, David Khoo, Principal Scientist of P&G’s Health and Hygiene Institute, led a short lecture on the science of handwashing and how germs can spread. Khoo mentioned that “scientists and doctors would agree that the main way germs infect us is through our hands.”

Every time we cover our mouth when we cough or sneeze, every exchange of money and items that passes between our hands, every flush of the toilet, and all 23 times per hour that we unconsciously put our hands on our faces just to name a few.

David Khoo, Principal Scientist of Health and Hygiene Institute shows the difference of washing for 20 seconds vs 5 or none at all.

Given that we use our hands for all that we do, it is important we remember to wash our hands for at least 20 seconds.

Khoo also set some common handwashing myths straight, such as having a bucket of water is not as effective in cleaning our hands, compared to washing with running water.

“Anytime you have a standing bucket of water (water that isn’t flowing or running), the first time you use it, it may be clean. But after that, the germs may be left behind and they will grow. So, the next time you use it, you will potentially reinfect and contaminate your hands with the germs that are growing in that standing water.”

A Friendly Reminder to Wash Your Hands

Vice President for P&G Beauty Care and Brand Operations Aldrich Gopal pointed out that even if we are all out and about, it does not mean that germs and diseases are eliminated and that washing your hands is crucial to protect the future of our nation – especially our students. “The threat of germs and diseases never left us, even as we move on to the new normal. The same germs can cause diseases that lead to school absences. However, with the power of a single SAFEwash, we can remove most of those diseases. So, when we make regular handwashing a part of our students’ lives, we also protect them from missing opportunities that would lead them to success in the future.”

A single hand wash can help lessen the spread of germs—and it only takes 20 seconds! For yourself, your loved ones, and the people around you, let’s unite for a safer Philippines through practicing proper hand hygiene in and out of our homes.
