Singapore’s largest lifestyle event ARTBOX unveil its line up of multifaceted activities

Following the announcement of its return in February after three year-hiatus, Singapore’s largest lifestyle event ARTBOX recently unveiled its line up of multifaceted activities that ignite imagination, creativity and hyperlocal entertainment experiences.

ARTBOX returns with more than 20 of its signature colourful containers measuring 20-foot and 40-foot that recall its Thai origins while offering a uniquely Singaporean twist. Right in the heart of the exhibition hall sits the 3-level high Hero Structure, comprising octagon-shaped containers stacked vertically with projection mapping by visual artist Aundraj Jude (@ASSTHROWKNOT) and motion designer Reynard Adrianto (@reygular). ARTBOX is also collaborating with JELILO artist Lester Lim (@lesdoublewood) and tokidoki (@tokidokibrand), as their vibrant and visionary art installations tell a tale of hope, courage and inner strength. Repurposed across the 9,822 square metre space, these creative elements bring out a refined night market experience that is backed with the hallmark of the signature Artbox aesthetic.

Non-Stop, Fun-filled Activities

True to this year’s theme of Vision, ARTBOX implores visitors to discover what the future holds at Fortune Town. The journey begins through the Fortune Tunnel, where one will find themselves reaching the enigmatic Fortune Town, filled with hands-on workshops and activities to appeal to the adventurous and fortune-seeking. There will be booths that offer aura reading, henna and Jagua body art, and visitors can even purchase crystals to take home.

No event is complete without music, and ARTBOX has invited popular artistes from Cross Ratio Entertainment such as Tay Kewei (@keweitay), Derrick Hoh (@derrickhoh), Alfred Sim (@zolalfredo), Akeem Jahat (@akeem_jahat) and Calvert Tay (@calverttay) to perform songs on the main stage that will leave everyone grooving to the beats. Additionally, singing sensation Zin from The Voice Thailand (Season 8) will also be jamming on the ARTBOX stage this year!

Musing over this year’s line-up of events, Invade’s Chief Executive Officer, Kent Teo, shares that ARTBOX VISION 2023 is akin to a box full of surprises. “We are pulling out all the stops for this year’s edition of ARTBOX with various collaborations, art installations, activities, retail and F&B experiences that will get everyone excited and entertained,” he notes. “We hope that  experiences by both vendors and visitors at ARTBOX VISION 2023 will make up for the number of years when we could not organise the event due to the global pandemic.”

SGAG, one of Singapore’s top comedy content producers, is co-organising with Invade for this year’s ARTBOX to deliver a slew of challenges and activities that will leave all in laughter - maybe even some in tears. Taking place on the SGAG event stage at ARTBOX, the Beam of Pain is one such challenge that will test participants’ pain thresholds and determination. An agonising test of strength, the Beam of Pain is a mini obstacle course featuring a 15-metre balancing beam lined with acupuncture mats. Completing this would be a daunting and impossible task for most, but the $888 cash reward lies in wait for the fastest and bravest challenger who conquers the Beam of Pain.

“I have high hopes that the Beam of Pain is going to be difficult to the point that no one will be able to complete it”, Adrian Ang (Xiao Ming), Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of SGAG, said cheekily. “If that is the case, then I will keep the $888 prize for myself!”

A Retail Therapy and Gastronomic Experience Like No Other

With close to 300 booths, visitors will be treated to vendors that are both new and familiar from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan. With Chang Beer as the official lager beer partner, patrons can quench their thirst with Chang’s unique brew, unwind and enjoy the contemporary Thai art forms by street artist Rukkit Kuanhawate. On-demand delivery platform foodpanda is also one of ARTBOX’s key partners. Visitors looking to indulge in the plethora of food offerings will be able to relax and eat to their hearts’ content at foodpanda’s pink outdoor-sheltered dining zone. Furthermore, visitors stand a chance to win foodpanda prizes by heading over to Fortune Town and spin the Wheel of Fortune.

For foodies, ARTBOX will offer delectable treats ranging from the sweet to savoury, with vendors cooking up local and regional delicacies that will appeal to the Singaporean palette.

Meanwhile, shopaholics will be treated to a variety of fashion, fragrances, jewellery, homewares and artisan crafts. Patrons can also purchase exclusive JELILO and tokidoki merchandise at ARTBOX arising from the event’s collaboration with these brands. These elements combined offer an all-in-one event experience that is sure to leave visitors with their hearts and bellies full.

To be held for the first time in the air-conditioned comfort of Singapore Expo Hall 6, ARTBOX will happen on 24 to 26 February and 3 to 5 March 2023, from 12pm to 11pm. General single-admission tickets are from SGD 5 on weekdays and SGD 6 on weekends per person, Visitors looking at attending all six days can opt for a Season Pass at $33 per person with priority entry. Groups of five are able to bulk purchase general entry tickets from $23, exclusive of booking fees. Every ticket will be automatically enrolled into a raffle draw where visitors will stand a chance to win the grand prize of a pair of tickets to Thailand! Jake Intia's Kwento ng Tagumpay with House of Fruitas

When Jake Intia decided to switch careers and pursue franchising, little did he know that it would lead to a life-changing decision. As a ‘Frentrepreneur,’ or one of the franchise entrepreneurs under the House of Fruitas (HoF) group of brands, he found that the sky is the limit for opportunities. More than being able to provide for his family, Intia continued his growth, starting from one stall to now managing over 50 fruitful franchise stores today.

Jake Intia's franchising journey began 16 years ago with a Jamaican Pattie franchise, one of the marquee brands of the House of Fruitas. The positive performance of his first stall gave him the confidence to invest in another. But this time, it was with the flagship brand. “It was clear to me that Fruitas was the brand to choose,” Intia explained his choice, “as anywhere I saw their stall, it never seemed to run out of customers lining up to get their hands on one of their shakes or juices.”

The success of his first Jamaican Pattie franchise led to the opening of several more, and today, Intia manages over 50 stalls on a variety of brands under House of Fruitas.

And there’s room for more, according to Intia. “With the way House of Fruitas helps you in getting your store up and running, and their guidance when it comes to management, it leads to a level of efficiency that allows you to save resources and energy to do other things,” he shared. “For me, I put it into investing in their other brands, so in a way, I was also investing in my growth.”

Intia spoke fondly of his relationship with House of Fruitas. “From the very first stall I franchised from them, I felt like they were truly invested in seeing me succeed. I owe them the confidence I have, and I’m blessed to have them as partners.”

Before becoming a Frentrepreneur, Intia had a career with one of the country’s leading oil firms and as a professor. But despite working two jobs then, he found his true calling after moving to franchising and becoming his own boss. "Before, I was worried about my finances, but now I have a better life because of the good stream of income that franchising has provided me," he said.

Intia's story is a testament to the fact that franchising can be a viable career option for those who are willing to work hard and take the leap of faith. Aspiring Frentrepreneurs, he believes, should "do it now.”

“Don't wait until you think you will be comfortable doing it. Your character is your most important investment."

One of the key benefits he attests to was the personal growth that comes with being a Frentrepreneur. His growth from managing one stall to more than 50, according to Intia, “takes leadership, management, and business acumen.” He has also succeeded in creating job opportunities for others and being a part of building a thriving community.

Guidance and close assistance to their Frentrepreneurs has always been a key priority for the House of Fruitas, according to CEO Lester Yu. “We’re more than just a brand: we aim to be a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about business and providing affordable yet quality products and services to customers.
As a Frentrepreneur, you become a part of this community, and you get access to our resources and full support in growing your business.”

For those who are considering franchising as a career option, Intia's story serves as a reminder that it's never too late to pursue your dreams. The franchising industry is constantly evolving and offers a wide range of opportunities for those who are willing to take the first step.

5 ways to be healthy—with your kids

Whenever we admonish our kids to “Eat your vegetables!” “Get up from bed already!” and “Put that gadget down now!” for the nth time, how many of us catch ourselves thinking that we should be doing the same?

“Children are likely to develop and maintain healthy habits in an environment where these healthy habits are seen and practiced regularly,” says Rosario P. Paguntalan, MD, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics of the top hospital in the Philippines, Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed)

Take the lead in ingraining these five healthy practices:

Eat better. “Make changes gradually during mealtime,” shares Dr. Paguntalan. “Replace pork and beef with chicken, fish, and seafood, and look for recipes that incorporate vegetables into dishes. Plant-based meat substitutes are also available in the market today, and can be used as alternative protein sources.” Even little tweaks make a huge difference.

Be active. If you’re looking for a reason to start exercising, why not make your family your motivation? “By getting fit, you can live long enough to see your kids’ kids,” she stresses. “Even 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day for five days a week has a positive impact on your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.”

Limit technology. “Establish a no-gadgets schedule in the family. During mealtimes, keep phones and tablets away from the dinner table,” suggests Dr. Paguntalan. “Or spend a few gadget-free hours together listening to each other talk about how your day went. The hours away from tech can help you and your kids encourage bonding. A solid and comfortable parent-child bond contributes to good mental health for all parties concerned.”

Get a checkup. Sure, you’re on top of your kids’ pediatrician and dental appointments—but when was the last time you had an annual physical exam? “Again, make your children your reason for staying healthy,” points out the doctor. “When you see your family physician regularly for a checkup—and not only when you’re feeling ‘off’ or experiencing symptoms—it’s your way of assuring your kids that you’ll be around for a long time.”

Have a healthy attitude. How you deal with stress, disappointment, success, or affection from your spouse and children, and other circumstances in life sets an example for your children to follow. “If they see you behaving consistently towards, say, a bad situation by lashing out in anger or shirking from responsibility, that’s what they’ll do too,” Dr. Paguntalan explains. “Conversely, if they see you face challenges head-on with a positive, can-do mindset, they’ll do the same. Overall good health and well-being can only happen at home when you initiate it, and your kids see the benefits of living this way.”
