realme C53 First Impressions

realme has consistently held the top position as the number one phone brand in the Philippines for two consecutive years, and it's no surprise why.

realme understands the needs of Filipino users consistently delivering devices with just the right specs to price ratio that cater to their preferences.

In this article, we will take a look at the realme C53, the newest entry-level smartphone. What leap forward technology does it bring to the budget segment this time?

WHATS IN THE BOX?

The realme C53 comes in the trademark yellow box. Inside you’ll find everything you need to use the phone as well as a surprise bonus!

That includes the phone itself, paperwork, and warranty card, sim card ejector tool and the 33W charging brick. This time realme has also been  generous enough to include a smoked plastic case, something we don’t usually get at this price point.

Exploring the device, you have the volume rocker and power button, which doubles as a fingerprint sensor on the right. On the left is the SIM slot that accommodates two nano SIMs as well as a dedicated micro SD slot, which is expandable up to 2TB. This feature is especially useful for users who require dual SIM functionality or frequently utilize expanded memory.

Located at the bottom of the device is a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microphone, and a single downward-firing speaker.

realme always has a specific name for its phones different finishes and this time realme calls this aesthetic the “Champion Design”—which is also one of the taglines of the realme c53 campaign.  After all what better color to represent a champion than glittering gold. The sparkly pattern definitely switches up the look under various lighting conditions.

realme employed a unique Golden Silk Coating Process to create the design of the realme C53. This innovative technique involves applying multiple layers of coating, each with a thickness of only 400nm, resulting in a stunning visual effect.

As usual, the minimalistic “realme” branding runs up the side. There’s also a Mighty Black option for those who want a more subdued color choice. The rear panel is made of plasticky material but it has some heft to it that adds a touch.

Despite its plastic construction, the realme C53 feels remarkably sturdy and well-built when held in the hand. It is the slimmest phone in the C-series lineup, measuring just 7.49mm in thickness. Additionally, the C-angle side design enhances ergonomics, ensuring a comfortable grip.

Another highlight of thepoint of pride for realme here is that its frame is its claim to fame. That’s because it’s extremely thin at just 7.49mm. It beats out a lot of smartphones within the segment and makes it easier to hold, especially since all the edges have been rounded off for the sake of ergonomics.

You get an iPhone-ish camera module again with its arrangement and circular cameras. I do like that realme did not put some text like other phones.

The realme C53 features a 6.74-inch HD+ LCD screen with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a 90 Hz refresh rate. The display appears decently bright and vivid and one of the better ones in this segment and the higher refresh rate of 90 Hz ensures smooth scrolling and navigation.

For its processor, the realme C53 is equipped with an Octa-core Unisoc T612 processor, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. So far in our daily use, the realme C53 delivers good performance and we didn’t experience and noticeable slowdown. With 128GB storage, you’ll be able to store lots of photos and videos. One problem for entry level phones has been storage that prevents users from installing games that use up a lot of space so the built in 128GB solves that and you can add even more via micro SD.

Another highlight feature of the C53 is the mini capsule we first saw with the C55. It can show you your charging status, count your daily steps and show your data usage.

For its cameras, the realme C53 has a 50MP AI main shooter + 0.8MP Black and White depth sensor and LED flash. For selfies, an 8MP AI front-facing camera is provided, supporting 720p video recording at 30fps.

Here are some of our initial photo and video samples taken using the realme C53.

@lola_lamon Introducing the realme C53, the ultimate charging champion designed to keep up with your fast-paced lifestyle. With its advanced charging technology and impressive battery capacity, the realme C53 ensures you never run out of power when you need it the most. Here are some video clips from the realme C53 @realmeph #chargelikeachampion ♬ Best Time

Lastly, the C53 comes with a 5000 mAh battery that is capable of 33W of SUPERVOOC fast charging—another highlight feature that should give it an edge over similar priced devices. We’re curious to see how fast we can top up the C53 but realme says you can get up to 50% in 31 minutes, and to 100% in just over an hour.

That’s it for our first impressions of the realme C53! I do like the design and feel of the phone, and the camera has proven to be quite good as well.  The realme C53 officially retails at PHP 7,999 SRP and is  available online on TikTok Shop and Lazada.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in for another shake-up with “Secret Invasion”. Set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth, and together they race against time to thwart the imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.

Who Do You Trust?

While Nick Fury is no stranger to threats in the MCU, it has been a long time since we saw him in action. We first encounter the Skrulls in Captain Marvel, in which Fury and Carol Danvers

fend off the Kree. While the Skrulls await Fury and Danver’s promise to give them a new world to call home, the Earth is besieged by multiple universe-ending threats.

Fury is not seen until Thanos is defeated in Avengers: Endgame, joining other heroes to mourn the loss of Tony Stark. After Endgame, Nick Fury continues to work in the shadows, forming S.A.B.E.R. with Skrull Talos and setting up a space station.

And who do the Skrulls trust when they’ve lost their home and their planet, and the man they’ve placed their trust in for years—who promised to find them a new homeland—lets them down?

The invasion begins

With Fury’s promise left unfulfilled, the renegade Skrulls lay their claim on Earth, taking over important organizations and governments to set up their plans for complete takeover. It’s up to Fury and his allies to form the last line of defense and save the world once more.

Witness Nick Fury’s return to the MCU and don’t miss Secret Invasion, now available exclusively on Disney+.

URC’s Sustainable Potato Program continuously helps Filipino farmers provide for their families

It is true that to plant a seed is to believe in a better tomorrow. Potato farmer Alan Regino of Sitio Gappang in Barangay Alegre, Davao Del Sur recounted that when he first received potato seeds from Universal Robina Corporation’s (URC) Sustainable Potato Program, he made P280,000 from his first harvest in 2019. The following year, he earned P170,000. The consistent stream of income allowed him to save up for his family’s needs.

Dati, mababa lang ang produksyon ng patatas namin kaya hindi sya sapat sa amin. Malaki ang naitulong ng URC at DA dahil kumita ako at nakapagpagawa ng bahay  (Before, the potato production was very low, so it wasn’t enough for our needs. URC and DA helped me a lot because I was able to earn money and build a house),” Alan said.

Alan is just one of many farmers who have reaped the benefits from URC’s Sustainable Potato Program. First initiated in 2018 to complement the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP), the program provides farmers access to quality potato seeds, training, research, and development in order to aid them in enriching their livelihood.

Last March, URC and DA representatives visited various barangays in Davao Del Sur and Bukidnon to distribute 27 metric tons of granola table potatoes to over 200 farmer beneficiaries.

Previously, URC and DA provided assistance to potato farmers in Benguet and Lanao Del Norte.

A bright future for potato farmers

Before the Sustainable Potato Program offered its assistance, the farmers from Davao and Bukidnon struggled to grow good quality potatoes and other crops. A lot of times, they said, the potato seeds were “prone to sickness,” which greatly affected their overall yield and earnings.

Ricky Monterde from the Cawayan Farmers Association in Bukidnon said that high-quality potato seedlings greatly improved their harvests. This sentiment was echoed by Rex Nawasca, a farmer and member of the Gappang Alegre Potato Farmers Association in Davao Del Sur, who said, “Nung dumating ang binhi ng URC, madaming nagbago sa aming buhay  (When we received potato seeds from URC, a lot changed in our lives).”

Nawasca added that he was able to buy a motorcycle, and also saw his colleagues purchase their own vehicles from what they earned from potato farming.

Meanwhile, another farmer from the Imbayao Community Participatory Action Research Association (ICPARA) in Bukidnon shared, “Nakabili ako ng lupa, at nakapagawa ng bahay at garden para sa mga tanim namin.” (I was able to buy a lot, and build a house and a garden, where we can plant more crops.)

Former office employees like Noel Padrones of the Kapatagan Upland Farmers Association (KUFA) in Digos City also turned to potato farming to make ends meet. Apart from himself, he’s seen firsthand how fellow farmers achieved a better life and financial growth.

“We’re happy with the Sustainable Potato Program because we can really see how it improved the lives of farmers,” said Melani Provido, DA representative of Alegre Vegetables and Arabica Growers Association, Mt. Apo Potato Farmers Association (in Balutakay, Davao Del Sur) and Highlight Farmers Agriculture Cooperation (in Kapatagan, Lanao Del Norte).

“When the pandemic hit, the program gave them jobs and money to feed their families. Now, they have their own vehicles, houses, and school tuition for their children,” she added.

Aside from enabling farmers to harvest quality produce for consumers, URC’s Sustainable Potato Program continuously helps Filipino farmers provide for their families. The program is part of the company’s move towards becoming a global sustainable organization in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

As the Philippines strives to improve the agricultural sector, this program, and others like it, is a step towards making food security and fruitful opportunities in farming more accessible to Filipinos.

Here are some tips that can help you get started with your own business

In the Philippines, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) comprise 99.58% of all businesses in the country and employ 64.67% of the entire workforce and are the driving force of the economy. These businesses, which include small community stores or sari-sari stores, water refilling stations, laundry stations, and many others, not only contribute to the country's GDP but also provide essential services to the local communities.

Such is the outsized importance of MSMEs that the United Nations (UN) designated every June 27 asInternational MSME Day to raise awareness on their immense contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These enterprises play a pivotal role in driving local and national economies while also supporting the livelihoods of the working poor, women, youth, and vulnerable groups.

It’s no surprise that many Filipinos want to open their own small businesses. A recent survey by Philippine research firm OCTA Research showed that 81% of adult Filipinos want to be entrepreneursThis desire to start their own businesses reflects the recognition of the opportunities and potential that MSMEs offer, not only in terms of economic growth but also in empowering individuals and communities.

If you’re one of the Filipinos who want to try their hand at starting their own businesses, here are some tips that can help you get started.

Starting an MSME in the Philippines

The first step of every aspiring entrepreneur is deciding what kind of business to open and where to open it if you plan on having a physical storefront. It’s essential to conduct thorough research whether there’s a market for your product or service, enough foot traffic and if the location is appropriate for it.

Aspiring entrepreneurs can also explore a hybrid phygital (a portmanteau of physical and digital) setup including offering online payments or e-commerce options to widen reach and market.

Second, once you’ve decided on the business and where to open it, get your necessary documentation and permits. In the Philippines, businesses are required to register with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), if they’re a sole proprietorship, or with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) if it’s a partnership or a corporation.

Businesses also need to get a Mayor's permit or municipal license from the city or municipality where the establishment is located. They also need to register with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to ensure proper taxation. If they plan on employing other people to help run the business, registrations with other government agencies such as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Social Security System (SSS) are also required.

This may seem like a lot of steps but these registrations and permits ensure that you’re able and willing to run your business properly and legally by following applicable laws and regulations.

Available via GCash’s GInsure marketplace, NegosyoCare premiums begin at P160 for one-month coverage and up to P525 for one-year coverage. It provides coverage for accidental deaths, total permanent disability due to accident, and disablement or dismemberment due to accident for up to P50,000. Benefits also include medical reimbursement for accidents for up to P5,000, fire cash assistance for P10,000, and coverage for burglary and housebreaking for P10,000.

These tips only scratch the surface of what it takes to run a business in the Philippines, but by taking these steps, aspiring entrepreneurs can set themselves up for success and remember: protect your small business with NegosyoCare, available at the GCash GInsure Marketplace.
