To help ensure the safety of your family, buy your LPG cylinders from authorized dealers only

As everyone continues to stay at home, people have been spending a lot of their time in the kitchen lately – from preparing daily meals and trying out new recipes, to cooking with the kids and of course, enjoying homecooked meals with the entire family. With this, kitchen safety is more important than ever, and it starts with securing all the tools and equipment, including making sure your LPG cylinders are safe and professionally installed.

Solane, a leading LPG provider in the country, offers these safety tips on the use of LPG to make cooking at home a safe and enjoyable experience.

Place the LPG cylinder in a well-ventilated area. When choosing a spot for your LPG cylinder, make sure that there is an opening, such as a window or a door, to ensure adequate ventilation. Make sure that LPG cylinders are also far away from other heat sources, electric outlets, and hazard-prone areas in the house to avoid ignition. Lastly, make sure that your LPG cylinder is in a secure and upright position.

Inspect the LPG cylinder. Upon delivery, carefully inspect your LPG tank to make sure that it is in good physical condition. First, check the cylinder for dents, cracks, corrosions, or other damages. Then, make sure that the safety cap and security seal are in place. If there seems to be a problem with any of the components, turn off the gas supply and have it replaced or repaired immediately. To make it easier, Solane offers customers a free 7-Point Safety Check. Through this extra precautionary step, Solane's well-trained riders help ensure that the tanks are safe and secure.

Use correct equipment and accessories. With LPG cylinders, ensure that you are using the correct hose by checking for the mark, "LPG Hose." Branded regulators,  such as RECA and TPA, are recommended because these are manufactured according to specific standards. When attaching the regulator, ensure that it is securely connected to the cylinder valve. The regulator knob should also be open to allow the outflow of gas from the holes. It’s also important to regularly check the condition of these two and replace them as needed. The hose should be replaced every 2 years while the regulator should be replaced every 5 years upon the date of manufacture.

Practice caution. Whether you are installing, using, or disconnecting your LPG cylinders, caution is a must. To avoid mishaps and injuries, you should also never attempt to fix, refill, or replace your cylinders without the help of authorized personnel. Don’t forget to turn off the cylinder valve or regulator and gas appliance when not in use. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the use and maintenance of your gas appliance. In case of an emergency, try to eliminate all sources of sources of ignition and turn off the gas supply of the cylinder. If the leak is on the cylinder, cover the leaking portion with a wet rag.

Make sure your LPG is authentic. To help ensure the safety of your family, buy your LPG cylinders from authorized dealers only. In addition, when buying gas tanks, be sure to check for quality markings on the cylinders, such as the registered brand name and trademark of the manufacturer, standard used and test dates, the serial or code number, expiry date, tare weight and LPG content, and the “Made in the Philippines” mark.

For more information, visit https://www.solane.com.ph or follow @solane.ph on Facebook. To order Solane LPG, call 8887-5555 (Met

UFC uplifts the lives of Filipino families with their 50 Acts of Kindness campaign

In honor of its 50th anniversary as a leader in the local food industry, UFC decided to give back to the Filipinos that have helped it reached such a momentous milestone. For the past five decades, UFC has been a part of every Filipino’s life by providing flavor and happiness through its wide array of condiments. Now, they choose to directly uplift the lives of Filipino families with their 50 Acts of Kindness campaign.

After losing her job as a salon worker, Michelle Morte supports her three children by selling ice, soap, and sundry items

To jump-start the campaign, UFC tapped several celebrity endorsers that supported them through the years to help select families that were adversely affected by the pandemic. Among them was legendary Filipino comedy actress Ai-ai delas Alas who nominated several beneficiaries.

Fifty-year-old Ronald Sto. Domingo was one of them. Ronald worked as a choreographer before the pandemic struck and froze the projects that gave him a steady stream of income. This compelled him to find another way to support himself and his aging father. Ronald turned to cooking and selling food online to make ends meet.

Beneficiaries received goods and a newly made sign to start up a sari-sari store

Despite his difficulties, however, Ronald’s innate kindness and generosity remained. As he worked hard to provide for his family, he also reached out to people who needed support as well.

“Dahil sa aking pagluluto, nakapagbenta ako ng food. Since may pandemic, binigay ko po yung kinikita ko sa mga frontliners,” said Ronald. “Kahit hindi ko po sila kilala, matulungan ko lang po sila, masaya na po ako nun."

Last December 13 and 14, Ronald and six other families received a Sama-samang Sarap ng Pamilya bundle from UFC. This came with a sari-sari store package that includes a signage as well as various NutriAsia products and grocery items; a bicycle with a basket for groceries; and a laptop with pocket Wi-Fi. These gifts are meant to provide them with the means to sustain their families in the new year.

Another beneficiary nominated by Aiai delas Alas was Michelle Morte, a 40-year-old mother of three. Formerly a salon worker, Michelle now stays at home with her children and her husband who is unable to work after suffering a stroke. Over the past few months, Michelle has gotten by through selling ice, soap, and sundry items to help support her family.

Several families were chosen by celebrity endorsers to receive Sama-samang Sarap ng Pamilya bundles

Through it all, Michelle remained hopeful and undaunted. Her family was a constant reminder that there are things to be grateful for even in the worst of times.

“Naging inspirasyon ko ang pamilya ko,” said Michelle. “At least kahit hirap, masaya pa rin kami. Magkakasama pa rin kami kahit may pinagdadaanang crisis.”

Ai-ai delas Alas also nominated Juanita M. Caponga, a 76-year-old widow who helps support her daughter’s family, and Calvin T. Zabale, a single father of two who lost his job as a waiter and now works as a deliveryman.

Ai-ai was not the only celebrity who got into the spirit of giving back. The remarkably talented Guerrero siblings also nominated multiple beneficiaries to receive a Sama-samang Sarap ng Pamilya package this Christmas.

Among them was Ilene G. Labador, a 24-year-old housewife who’s been struggling to sustain their family’s needs ever since her husband lost his job as a construction worker.

UFC's 50 Acts of Kindness campaign sought to give back to families that lost their livelihood this past year

Another was Reynaldo Jose, a 53-year-old contractor struggling to support his family after the pandemic took away most of his construction projects.

Iconic OPM rapper Gloc-9 also joined UFC’s 50 Acts of Kindness campaign by nominating Carlito Bolima, a 48-year-old tricycle driver who toils from 4 a.m. to midnight every day to feed his wife and three children.

Ilene, Reynaldo, and Carlito are extremely grateful to UFC, especially for the sari-sari store package that will give them and their families the means to sustain themselves moving forward.

Indeed, these Sama-samang Sarap ng Pamilya bundles act as a reminder of the powerful love these beneficiaries have for their families. It’s a love that continues to drive them forward even in the most trying of times. UFC takes great inspiration from their resilient drive and celebrates them this holiday season as models of the unbreakable Filipino spirit.

SCPA interprets “Pasco” by highlighting Pinoy culture

Sanitary Care Products Asia, Inc. (SCPA) celebrates first virtual annual christmas party with the company's very own holiday theme song "Pasco".

2020 has been a challenging time for the Filipino people. With the lockdown extending beyond the initial 6 months, multiple businesses were affected and millions displaced from their jobs. The last agenda on anyone’s minds is celebrating the holidays as we approach the pandemic’s first anniversary.

And yet, Sanitary Care Products Asia, Inc. (SCPA) saw God’s covering upon their company from COVID-19's economic and social effects throughout the year. As a response to His goodness, the management decided to push through with their annual Christmas party through virtual means! The goal was to inspire employees to share their blessings with their families and those in greater need.

As their way of gratitude and in line with their first-ever virtual Christmas party, SCPA commissioned local recording artist, DJ, and producer Silverfilter to write the company’s very own holiday theme song – “Pasco”.

Marketing Director Lea Sio-Pacis shared a bit about the conceptualization. “When we were creating the song, our inspirations were local TV station IDs broadcast over the holidays, SCPA’s purpose of providing Filipinos with high-quality hygiene products, and our core values of Service, Christ-Centered Principles, Passion, and Accountability.   Because of the Christmas theme, it was very organic for the focus to be on our Lord Jesus Christ while also referring to SCPA’s continued service following Christ’s example.” With those ideas in mind, Silverfilter proceeded with writing and arranging.

To mark this historic occasion, SCPA’s holiday theme song was the driving force behind the Christmas party’s music video competition. Each SCPA branch interpreted “Pasco” by highlighting Pinoy culture, our collective struggle, and our hope in the Lord through distinct, creative visuals.

We are happy to share with you one entry each from SCPA’s Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao branches!

Robinsons Bank is bringing smiles in the homes of children this Christmas

In this Season of Giving, Robinsons Bank's promise of a brighter future for every Filipino took the path of donating electronic tablets to schoolchildren in various communities nationwide to help them cope with the requirements of online schooling for the coming year.

“Many families are still struggling with the setup of remote learning, whether it is the lack of a gadget to use or difficulty in accessing the internet. We wanted to provide support to these children so they can continue with their education and achieve the brighter future they deserve,” stated.

Mr. Sarte also added that “Our strong advocacy on financial literacy for children has led us to witness their eagerness and passion for learning. It would be disheartening to know that there are children out there who want to keep learning but have no means to. So, we pushed for this initiative to really help those children in need.”

In lieu of RBank’s corporate giveaways, the children received sim cards along with the electronic tablets, which they can use to access the internet for their online schooling.

Despite the challenges that this year has brought, the Bank’s passion for service remains unwavering. RBank will always be committed to fulfilling the needs of the Filipino people.

With Robinsons Bank, the future is bright!

80% of Pinoys Open to Re-gifting This Season

Christmas in the Philippines has always been a special time for everyone to come together and share in the festivities of the holiday season. One of those time-honored traditions is gift giving for our families and friends. With the pandemic quarantine limiting shopping in person and the warning not to congregate in crowded places like malls and stores, Carousell (formerly OLX), one of the leading online marketplaces in the country and in Southeast Asia offers good buys and the widest choices if you are looking for quality and pre-loved items ranging from fashion, food, autos, tech, toys, and even properties -- whilst empowering consumers to spend meaningfully during this festive season and in the safety of one’s home.

In a recent research powered by the Kantar Profiles Network, it shows 80% of Filipinos are open to giving and receiving preloved gifts during the holidays. In the Philippines, top searches include  marked-off mobile devices (iPhone and Samsung), top-hit video consoles (Nintendo Switch and PS4), and lifestyle brands from luxe to high street (Louis Vuitton and Zara), laptops (Apple and Asus) and secondhand automobiles (BMW and Toyota). Times may be tough for many of us but that shouldn’t prevent us from celebrating Christmas in the way that we are accustomed to: with expressions of gratitude and sharing of love and fellowship to those around us and those who matter most in our lives. With the virus still in our midst, people have become wary of impulse buying and have turned to more economic and practical buys that focus on value for money in order to find the best deals at the most affordable prices. As Christmas Day and New Year are just around the corner, everyone’s on the lookout for a more meaningful way to celebrate and shop and avoid any unnecessary  extravagance or excess.

Throughout the year, Carousell initiated various campaigns to support consumers, frontliners, and business owners: #ChooseToCare Fundraising Drive, a fundraising campaign to provide assistance for medical workers who have been proactively fighting the virus, with the proceeds given to the Lung Center of the Philippines and their chosen beneficiary; “The Great Property Sale” which offered a wide variety of selection in house and lots and condominiums with thousands of fresh listings, various discounts, and promos for users to be able to find suitable homes even with the financial limitations imposed by the pandemic; Relief options for automobile dealerships through free coins and waived payment for Carousell transactions instigated to help jumpstart the automotive industry that has been badly affected by the pandemic—all a testament to the company’s goal of extending aid, relieving the financial burden, and empowering Filipinos. As the decade comes to a close, Carousell continues to encourage consumers to make mindful purchases that promote both economic and environmental sustainability.

Raffy Montemayor, General Manager, Carousell Philippines shared “We understand the need for Filipinos to imbibe the spirit of gift-giving during this season. While the current situation dictates for us to be more mindful with our spending, we want to support Filipinos’ natural generosity during the holidays by giving them an online avenue to purchase thoughtful and practical gifts.”

Being the top classified marketplace, Carousell offers a variety of high quality, preloved products that would fit into every budget. Looking for great holiday gift ideas during the festive season does not have to be difficult for our pockets, visit Carousell at www.carousell.ph and download the app on Google Play or App Store to find the best gift that you can give to your family and friends!
