JobStreet bags two awards at the 19th Philippine Quill Awards

JobStreet once again proves its industry leadership as the country’s top online job portal and career partner as they recently bagged two awards at the esteemed 19th IABC Philippine Quill Awards.

This year, the company secured recognitions for its entries Going Hyperlocal: JobStreet's Microsite Launch under Marketing and Brand Communication Category; and COVIDCOMMS 2021: Boosting the Job Market through JobStreet’s Government Virtual Career Fairs under Government Relations Category.

Aiming to help boost the job market in provinces, the campaign “Going Hyperlocal '' introduced local employment opportunities in Cebu, Iloilo, and Davao with helpful guides and resources written in their respective dialect through a dedicated microsite platform. This initiative allowed province-based hirers to easily connect with nearby candidates and likewise encourage job seekers in finding jobs that matter in their locality to help decongest Metro Manila during the pandemic.

The other entry entitled “Boosting the Job Marketing through JobStreet’s Government Virtual Career Fairs” is in partnership with the Civil Service Commission which was held in 2020 and 2021. The program aimed to help boost the job market and economy by bringing together jobseekers and companies to present new employment opportunities nationwide, conveniently through a mobile-first design application and series of webinars.

“Since the pandemic, JobStreet has been ensuring the welfare of both our hirer and candidates and we are honored that our initiatives have been acknowledged by IABC Quill awards. This recognition only drives us to continue our mission of giving Filipinos the jobs that matter paired with insightful guidance to help them thrive in their industries and professions,” shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

JobStreet has been actively extending its support to help stabilize the labor market through career webinars, virtual career fairs, and more to equip candidates in the new normal. Last year, JobStreet took home four awards for its #TogetherAhead: JobStreet’s Response to the Covid-19 Impactprogram which aimed to provide job seekers and employers support, resources, and inspiration amidst the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

JobStreet is here to assist fresh graduates as they navigate their next normal job hunting journey

Graduating at a time when the world is striving to recover from a pandemic is an entirely new experience. Like with everybody else, the COVID-19 crisis left candidates with no other option but to go through major adjustments and transformations in every aspect, especially in the process of job hunting.

It is during these constant shifts in the job market landscape when newly graduated candidates can find opportunities to build a successful career. With its commitment to providing jobs to every Filipino, leading online job portal JobStreet is here to assist fresh graduates as they navigate their next normal job hunting journey.

The labor climate

With determining your next steps in their career, JobStreet says it is important for fresh graduates to assess the current top-hiring industries and job trends in the Philippines that will help them make smart career choices.

According to JobStreet, as of April 2022 the top-hiring industries for entry level jobs include Government / Defense, with an average salary of Php 22,679. This is followed by Call Center / BPO (Php 25, 176), Education (Php 26,933), Human Resources Management / Consulting (28,117), Healthcare / Medical (Php 30,815), the Retail / Merchandise industry (Php 17,846), Banking/Financial Services (Php 17,811), Construction / Building / Engineering (Php 21,321), Manufacturing / Production (Php 18,231), and General & Wholesale Trading (Php 33,733). This list gives you an idea of the career options that you may consider and your chances of getting hired.

Moreover, JobStreet revealed that with the reopening of the economy and the introduction of more career opportunities this year, jobs under corporate digital transformation and information technology are on the rise.

“There is an increase in demand in digital-savvy roles, specifically virtual assistants, content creators, application developers, and UX designers. IT call center jobs and customer service-related roles are also needed, since the BPO industry is still expected to grow with the economy easing its restrictions,” said JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Phillip Gioca.

What employers seek now

To increase employability, fresh graduates are advised to learn what employers nowadays look for in a candidate. With the rise of work from home and hybrid set ups in the next normal, the list of most valued traits have become different.

JobStreet shared that teamwork is the first on the list of soft skills currently sought by employers, followed by active/continuous learning, critical thinking, survival skills/complex problem solving, and resilience and curiosity. The next five on the list include flexibility/adaptability, time management, communication and social influence, emotional quotient/service orientation and drive, as well as thriving in a virtual environment/tech literacy.

“With this information, fresh graduates can identify the skills they need to prioritize developing, as well as the skills they possess which they can highlight when they present themselves to a prospective employer,” Gioca shared.

Present a strong resume

Fresh graduates need not worry about their lack of experience when applying for entry-level jobs. Instead, Jobstreet recommends creating a compelling resume that best represents their relevant skills and experience for them to ultimately get the job they want.

A good rule of thumb for fresh graduates applying for entry-level positions is to keep the length of the resume to one page, highlighting the most important skills and qualifications. JobStreet likewise advised candidates to keep their resume as clean and as simple as possible and use neat fonts. Make it reader-friendly by using bullets for your technical skills, personal skills and achievements and bolden the text of more important details like the degree and internship experience.

You can also rehearse your interviews, map out your professional journey with a career development planner, access cover letter samples, and properly manage salary expectations with a salary calculator and salary guide using JobStreet’s Career Tools

JobStreet’s 2021 Salary Report reveals that 50% of job posts in the platform offered increased pay across 22 industries

Leading online job portal JobStreet’s 2021 Salary Report reveals that 50% of job posts in the platform offered increased pay across 22 industries in the country.

With an average salary growth of 22.9%, this data shows that the country is inching its way to recovery. The said report compared salary data from JobStreet’s pool of employers between the first and third quarter of 2021 vs. 2020 of the same period, and was conducted in six countries in Asia, including the Philippines.

“The report aimed to provide candidates with information and insights to manage their salary expectations and to help improve their career planning, while also assisting employers in making strategic hiring offers and decisions,” shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

Based on the report, Education (67%), Public Service (64%), Social Services (52%), Electrical/Electronics (50%), Computer/IT (48%) are among the top industries that showed pay increases, followed by Marketing/Advertising (48%), Telecommunications (48%), Healthcare (48%), Construction & Building (47%), and Communication Service (46%).

JobStreet observed that public sectors are in need of quality employees, with job offers on the rise. With the new ways of working, Computer/IT and Telecommunications industries are also thriving and are offering higher compensation for their candidates. This same trend was also seen in Digital Marketing under Marketing & Advertising.

In terms of job specialization, the 2021 Salary Report shows that jobseekers specializing in Education/Training (65%), Computer/IT (50%), Administration and Human Resources (54%), Healthcare (57%), and Manufacturing (49%) are now offered with higher salaries due to the need for quality candidates who are digitally savvy, could keep the company operations going, and are experts in medical fields amidst the pandemic.

Mobility restrictions in the country have had adverse effects on several industries’ salary offers. For instance, Oil & Gas, Hospitality, Consumer Goods, and Retail industries experienced pay cuts. Likewise, the Banking and Real Estate industries offered lower salaries, potentially caused by the overall economic condition of the country.

While the Call Center/IT-Enabled Services/BPO industry brings in the most jobs in the market with bigger offers, some companies could not avoid the impact of the pandemic with 41% of their job ads posted with lower rates than 2020.

Moreover, applicants specializing in Accounting/Finance (39%), Sales/Marketing (38%), and Engineering (36%) took a hit in their paychecks due to businesses in survival mode. Specializations requiring face-to-face interaction also saw a decline in salary offers such as Hotel/Restaurant (35%), Construction (36%), Services (37%), and Manufacturing (35%).

The pandemic has had a huge impact in the labor market in the past couple of years. This also made the competition for quality talents steep among hirers, causing employers to make adjustments to their offerings, policies, and work environment,” Gioca added.

Salary movements in NCR, provinces

JobStreet 2021 Salary Report has also seen the impact of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) on the job offers by companies in Metro Manila. 20 out of 43 industries in NCR experienced major pay cuts in position level, median salary during Q1 to Q3 of 2021. Despite this, 16 industries in the region including Public Service; Science and Technology; Legal; Beauty, Health & Fitness; Human Resources among others had pay increases in the same period.

“The rising COVID-19 cases in NCR are relatively higher than in the rest of the country, which resulted in stricter protocols, causing companies to make adjustments in their offers. On the other hand, other industries in the region were able to thrive and have posed significant increases in their salary offer,” explained Gioca.

Meanwhile, growth in salary is also seen in provinces with rising economic activity and those in proximity to NCR. Among the top provinces are Angeles City, Iloilo City, Calamba City, Bulacan, and Cavite. Salary increases were also observed in Palawan, General Santos City, Batangas, Cebu City, and Baguio City.

With the recent salary movements, JobStreet advised jobseekers to not feel discouraged in pursuing their career and look into other benefits, health conditions, aside from salary.

“Salary is just one factor when it comes to career planning. We recommend candidates to ask their potential employers about other items like benefits and company culture. It also pays to explore new skills relevant in specializations and/or industries with stable or rising pay,” shared JobStreet Senior Sales Manager Ryan Tordesillas.

The job portal also underscores the opportunity for employers to leverage this foresight to plan for and acquire talent before competition increases as the job market fully recovers. As salaries become more competitive, companies are advised to understand all the forces that influence jobseekers’ motivation beyond salaries in order to get the talent edge over competitors.

JobStreet recorded more than 105 million job searches in 2021 and over 75,000 job vacancies offered through the platform daily at any given time. In addition, the top specializations hired last year in the platform were Call Center/IT-Enabled Services/BPO, Education, IT/Computer – Software, Finance, and Administrative Support, among others.

With over half of the population fully vaccinated, JobStreet is here to guide employers and job seekers through insights on salary benchmarks towards job market recovery this 2022.

SEEK Asia Launches Let’s Get To Work To Empower Job Seekers After "Great Resignation"

Today, SEEK Asia, the parent company of leading jobs platforms JobStreetand JobsDB, and with investments in JobKorea and BDJobs (Bangladesh), announces the launch of its new omni-channel campaign aimed at getting job seekers, and especially first jobbers, to work. This comes after the pandemic caused unemployment rates to skyrocket to an estimated 81 million in Asia, with many still unable to secure a job. The pandemic has also changed people’s attitudes towards their jobs, with many re-evaluating where and how they want to work and the kind of work they want to do. This has led to the emerging trend known as the “Great Resignation”, a term coined by associate professor of management at Texas A&M University Anthony Klotz, which explains why even experienced job seekers are choosing to leave their current careers in the search of something more meaningful.

Aptly titled “Let’s Get To Work”, SEEK Asia’s latest campaign will be rolled out in its six key markets from today, running across digital, out-of-home (OOH) advertising, social media, and PR. Let’s Get To Work is a continuation of SEEK Asia’s brand evolution that began in late 2020, and will focus its messaging on empowering job seekers to go after careers they are passionate about. The campaign also indicates an ongoing strategic business shift, positioning JobStreet and JobsDB as not just a jobs platform, but also as a career and talent partner for both job seekers and hirers, respectively.

The fully integrated marketing campaign is helmed by leading global marketing company McCann Worldgroup and will see adaptations of the regional campaign across microsites, campaign films in each of the six local languages, and in-market activations. McCann will work alongside Think Tank’s multi-award-winning director Adrian Calumpang. Calumpang is a creative force with a long list of clients such as The Coca-Cola Company, Heineken, Nestle, Nike, and Unilever — to name a few. His style is typically sought after because of the way he portrays youth culture; elements that can be seen through the high-energy aesthetic of the Let’s Get To Work brand films.

Jane Cruz-Walker, Chief Marketing Officer at SEEK Asia, said: “While the pandemic has caused widespread job loss, reduced working hours, and pay cuts, it has also caused many to re-evaluate what they want out of their career. Job seekers’ demands have evolved beyond remuneration — they want a sense of fulfilment, good work-life balance, and career progression — and it is time for companies to adapt to this new world of work. This is why SEEK Asia is launching Let’s Get To Work: to motivate job seekers to pursue the jobs they love! By providing job seekers with opportunities to find jobs that they are passionate about, we want to be the career partner that will inspire the next generation of workers and empower them to be the heroes in their own career journey!”

Focusing on the hyperlocal nature of the job market, Let’s Get To Work will also feature influencers and key opinion leaders will be used across the region — including Singaporean actress Sharon Au, Malaysian stand-up comedian Harith Iskander, Indonesian vlogger Gerry Girianza, Filipino actor and chef Marvin Agustin, Thai musician Manassavee, and Hong Kong fitness entrepreneur Charlz Ng.

In the Philippines, leading online job portal JobStreet will be bringing this exciting campaign to life with over 10 local influencers and key opinion leaders from different professions and industries, who will be sharing career advice from their own experiences to motivate and empower jobseekers.

This holistic campaign can be accessed in a variety of channels, including a microsite with a range of stories, videos, tips, and advice to guide and inspire candidates on their ‘Let’s Get to Work’ journey.

“It has been a tough couple of years for Filipino jobseekers and I’m sure many are looking for a new career direction or a fresh perspective on what they really want from their jobs. Our campaign is here to help restore their passion for work and encourage them to push through these present challenges, so they could look forward to next year with a renewed sense of purpose in their career,” shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

With over 13 million candidates and 75,000 job vacancies in the country, JobStreet remains committed to empowering the job market amidst the pandemic through continued efforts such as nationwide virtual career fairs and access to various online career tools.

In 2022, SEEK Asia will also be launching the Biggest Tech Career Fair in Asia, which aims to accelerate digital transformation efforts by providing more opportunities for job seekers to secure roles in companies driven by technology. As the biggest career fair in the region, SEEK Asia will aim to match thousands of tech job opportunities to hundreds of thousands of candidates.

Peter Bithos, CEO of SEEK Asia, said: “SEEK Asia is the biggest and most trusted jobs board in Southeast Asia. Our ambition is to grow fourfold in the next five years and to expand our platform beyond what people have come to know and love us for today. We are strengthening our existing business by making big investments in people, innovation, and technology. Through Let’s Get To Work, we will be able to better engage with and inspire job seekers to find jobs that are meaningful to them. With our appeal to job seekers, this will also allow us to get more employers on the platform looking for quality talent, allowing an explosion of opportunities. Let’s Get To Work is an integral part of SEEK Asia’s commitment to job seekers and employers, and this is just the beginning of our exciting developments and plans.”

JobStreet hosts its Virtual Career Fair in partnership with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) on September 20 to 24

More than 24,000 government job vacancies nationwide will be offered to jobseekers as the leading online job portal JobStreet hosts its Virtual Career Fair in partnership with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) happening on September 20 to 24.

This is in line with the platform’s continued commitment to provide jobs that matter during these increasingly unpredictable times, empowering candidates that were affected by the pandemic and the recent strict implementation of community quarantine.

Over 130 government agencies are participating in the Virtual Career Fair, offering various specializations such as Security/Armed Forces/Protective Services, Education Clerical/Administrative Support, General Work (Housekeeper, Driver, Dispatch, Messenger, etc), Healthcare (Nurse, Medical Support, Assistant), among others.

Central Visayas, CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) and MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga, and Cordillera Administrative Region are the top locations for the said government jobs.

According to The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), around 90,000 workers were affected by the recent Enhanced Community Quarantine. They have either permanently lost their jobs or are under flexible work arrangements.

Based on JobStreet’s Global Talent Survey, many jobseekers are now prioritizing job security over financial compensation due to the unpredictability of the COVID-19 crisis. Furthermore, the government sector is one of the top employers in JobStreet, hence viewed as a more secure career option by Filipino workers at this time.

With this, JobStreet and CSC offer employment opportunities in the public sector by bringing jobseekers and hiring government agencies together in the virtual career fair.

The joint initiative is also in commemoration of the CSC’s 121st Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, wherein they committed to holding an enjoyable, productive, and helpful virtual job fair this 2021.

“It has always been JobStreet’s advocacy to provide every Filipino with jobs that matter, and it’s an honor that the Civil Service Commission trusted us again to be a part of this initiative to help candidates rebuild themselves and find an opportunity to be of service to our nation,” shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

Applicants during the Virtual Career Fair in partnership with CSC can explore the platform’s live chat feature and Facebook Live events, with the chance to be interviewed on-the-spot.

Job to Cart: Applying is as easy as online shopping

With the growing demand for new and relevant skills, leading online job portal JobStreet reveals key findings on the Filipino workforce’s view on reskilling, upskilling, and digital learning from their recent Decoding Global Talent Survey.

When it comes to upskilling, 77% of Filipino employees are willing to be retrained for a different job as needed, according to JobStreet’s Decoding Global Talent Survey released last May. This is even higher among blue collar workers at 82%.

The growing number of workers who value upskilling or retraining and acquiring multiple skills can be attributed to the need for job security. As the pandemic has changed the work landscape, candidates are more willing to learn additional or new skills to be able to remain efficient in their jobs during the quarantine economy.

“Job roles are transforming faster than ever and both hirers and candidates must understand the need for upskilling for them to be more competitive and employable, respectively. Besides, it sustains a culture of learning in the workplace, hence improving overall productivity and resiliency at the time of crisis,” shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

The same survey reveals that Filipino workers’ learning preferences are still traditional with On-the-Job Training at 70% shown as the most preferred way of upskilling, followed by Self-study at 63%, and Conferences and Seminars at 56%.

Job resiliency

Aside from the number of employees who are willing to learn additional skills, the report also features higher-risk and lower-risk jobs in terms of resiliency due to automation.

JobStreet recommends for companies to build plans to expand the skills of their workers especially those in Customer Service, Service Sector, Administration and Secretariat, and Arts and Creative Work, which are at higher risk.

Meanwhile, employees in lower-risk jobs such as Management, Engineering and Technical, Science and Research, Law, Health and Medicine, Social Care, IT and Technology, and Digitalization and Automation are also recommended to upskill or be trained to stay relevant.

“We can see that automation has become a key factor in the workplace, so it is an advantage to learn digital skills regardless of your job role,” Gioca added.

Making job seeking easier amidst recovery

While economic recovery is on the horizon, JobStreet understands that applying for jobs remains a challenge among Filipino candidates. To help jobseekers, JobStreet’s “Job To Cart” online event is providing applicants with thousands of career opportunities nationwide.

Happening from July 26 to 30, “Job To Cart” gives participants a variety of career choices over its five day run, with applications done through easy-to-use chatbots and live chat features with participating employers.

Day 1 will be dedicated to Luzon-based jobs, then on Day 2, available positions from Visayas-Mindanao jobs will be added. Day 3 is launching entry-level jobs, while Day 4 introduces overseas opportunities, and Day 5 opens government support and services.

Candidates can also catch JobStreet’s Facebook Live Shows, featuring special musical guests Fighting Monday, Reese Lansangan, and The Juans.

Guests will also talk about their experiences in job searching and working in an office. With the help of hosts Show Suzuki and Bea Benedicto, JobStreet will also present job vacancies that are up for grabs through “Job To Cart” during the livestream.

“Job To Cart is an effort that aims to make applying for jobs a more entertaining activity just as how much we Filipinos enjoy online shopping. Hopefully, through this online event, we are able to help more candidates rebuild their careers and find a job that matters to them,” said Gioca.
