TCL Celebrates 45 Years of Innovation with Opening of Industrial Museum

 TCL today marked its 45th anniversary with the Inauguration Ceremony of the TCL Industrial Museum in Huizhou, the city where TCL was founded in 1981. Built on the former factory site of TCL’s predecessor, TTK, the museum chronicles TCL’s evolution alongside the development of China’s electronics industry.

45 Years of Innovation and Transformation

Spanning more than 23,000 square meters, including over 9,000 square meters of exhibition space, the museum brings together over 3,000 curated pieces across six exhibition halls and a central atrium.

 

The collections cover key eras of technological development, with highlights including a 1920s Nipkow mechanical scanning disk, China’s first television set, China’s first commercial computer, and the world’s first mass-produced printed OLED 4K display developed by TCL CSOT in 2024. The television gallery also features more than 100 vintage television sets from around the world.

 

The museum traces TCL’s history from early manufacturing to display technology and clean energy.

Beyond the Spec Sheet

TV technology has come a long way, but for consumers, the growing number of technical terms can make it harder—not easier—to understand what actually makes one display better than another.

TCL Philippines recently brought this conversation closer to real-world viewing through an exclusive media roundtable that looked beyond specifications and industry terminology. The experiential session combined insights from TCL leadership with side-by-side product demonstrations, giving media a chance to see how different Mini LED technologies perform when viewed under the same conditions.

“TCL wants to make the TV-buying experience easier by turning technical claims into something consumers can actually see. With interactive displays and side-by-side comparisons, shoppers can experience the difference in brightness, contrast, and color for themselves, rather than having to decode a long list of specifications,” shares Maxi Chen.

At the heart of SQD-Mini LED are three technologies working together: Precise Dimming, Super QLED, and the Ultra Color Filter. Each addresses a different aspect of the viewing experience, but their real value comes from how they work as one system.

Precise Dimming serves as the foundation, combining upgraded micro-lens structures, Micro-OD architecture, and intelligent backlight algorithms to give the display more precise light control. The result is brighter highlights, more consistent illumination, and deeper contrast, while reducing the haloing that can sometimes appear around bright objects in dark scenes.

Super QLED then builds on that light-control system with a wider color gamut, higher color purity, and optimized blue-light distribution. This lets the display reproduce richer, more accurate colors, especially in scenes where subtle color differences matter.

The Ultra Color Filter completes the picture. By using color-filtering particles smaller than 5 nanometers, the technology helps reduce color interference and preserve cleaner, more distinct colors, even on larger screens.

Disassembled TV units on display gave a close-up look at TCL's SQD Mini LED, QD Mini LED, and QLED backlight engineering, alongside a competing brand’s Mini LED unit -- showcasing how TCL’s advanced backlight technology delivers clearer and more precise motion.

TCL goes beyond the screen, exposing the backlight structures of its QLED unit alongside a competing brand’s TV, offering a deeper look inside and highlighting why looking beyond product labels matters when evaluating display performance.

Together, these technologies are less about chasing impressive numbers on a spec sheet and more about addressing what viewers actually notice: whether bright scenes stay clear in a well-lit room, whether dark scenes retain depth without unwanted halos, and whether colors stay rich and consistent from scene to scene.

Independent testing by Omdia gave TCL’s SQD-Mini LED a perfect 10/10 score across brightness, color consistency, color gamut, and 4K motion clarity. The display also maintained rich, accurate colors even in small highlights, showing how the technology performs beyond the numbers typically used to describe a TV.

The difference becomes even more apparent when you view SQD-Mini LED alongside competing Mini LED TVs. TCL’s side-by-side demonstrations showed how different brands approach the same underlying technology—and how those differences can translate into very different viewing experiences.
