The British Council Learning Hub assists the test takers need to get their best possible score in IELTS

I learned about International  English  Language Testing System (IELTS) test, when my son told me that he is going to take the test before TOEFL. He is now in the US and a citizen there. IELTS is one of their requirements for him to take before the nursing exam. I wish him luck. I know that he is going to pass the exam with flying colors. Now, what is IELTS?

Last week, we have attended The British Council Learning Hub in BGC. The event was attended by The British Council executives and media.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world's most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration, with over 3 million tests taken in the last year.

For  many  Filipinos,  a  life  abroad  is  a  life  brimming  with  possibilities,  and  dreams  of studying,  working,  and  living  in  another  country  are  dreams  worth  chasing.  To  make these  a  reality,  one  of the  requirements  is  taking a  language assessment  test  to prove they  can  speak  the  language  used  in  the  country  they  want  to  go  to.  For  English- speaking  countries,  this  means  taking  tests  like  the  International  English  Language Testing System (IELTS) test.

The IELTS test, like other English language tests, requires preparation for takers to be able to achieve their desired scores. The British Council, one of the co-owners of IELTS, provides  test  takers  with  support  and  guidance  for  taking  their  IELTS  test,  including centres where they can get the necessary support and resources to help them prepare for the test.

On May 18, 2018, the British Council launched the Learning Hub. It is a new centre for learning English and preparing for English tests, particularly IELTS, where individuals can  avail  of  reliable  resources  and  high-quality  services  that  can  help  them  better prepare for their test and achieve their best possible IELTS score.

“The British Council Learning Hub is a creative and inclusive space for individuals to gain new knowledge and skills that help improve their performance in the IELTS test, in turn enabling them to reach their goals,” said  Nick Thomas, Director for British Council in the Philippines “It  makes  use  of  the  British  Council’s  75  years  of  experience  in  English language  teaching  and  assessment  to  provide  a  world-class  facility  for  improving  one’s English proficiency.”

Among  the  Learning  Hub’s  offers  are  the  IELTS  One-day  Preparation  Workshop, which  familiarises  takers  with  the  test;  IELTS  Exceed  Writing  Workshop,  which prepares  takers  for  the  writing  part  of  the  test;  IELTS  Pre-tests,  a  simulation  of  the actual test; IELTS Orientation, which discusses the test format, modules and question types in the test; and the IELTS Library, where registered IELTS test takers can access IELTS books, practise test materials, audio CDs, and other resources.

Aside  from  these,  individuals  can  also  avail  of  numerous  online  resources  which  they can access anytime and anywhere.

-     The  Road  To  IELTS  is  an  online  course  which  British  Council  registered

IELTS test takers can access for free up to 30 hours

-     The IELTS Preparation App is a mobile app developed by the British Council to improve the test takers’ English listening and speaking skills

-     Massive open online course is a limited time online course that focuses on listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Other online offers can be accessed by visiting https://www.ieltsasia.org/ph.

“The British Council Learning Hub is a testament to the British Council’s commitment  to provide  the  assistance  the  test  takers  need  to  get  their  best  possible  score  in  IELTS.  By delivering that, we help them realise their dreams and achieve their goals of studying at a university overseas, working for a multinational company or starting a new life abroad,” explained Nick Thomas.

The new British Council Learning Hub is located at the British Council’s new office on the 7th floor of The Curve at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City. The antioxidant potential of green tea

Everyone got into that "pimple phase" regardless of age and gender. I remember having a pimple eruption in my 30s. Yes, it was a bit late. I consulted a derma from a hospital that I worked in. She told me that it was from the antibiotics that I have been taking. It was the worst ever. I tell you, that was also the time that I have started detoxing. I  changed my lifestyle. I cut on sweets, fatty foods, sodas, red meat and concentrated powdered drinks. I went to the gym and exercised everyday  for 5 years except on weekends for family bonding.

After doing all of the above. My face cleared up. I lost weight and started to take care of myself.  My medicines cost me a lot, but it paid off.  I suggests you to DO NOT SELF MEDICATE. Consult an endocrinologist, together with your derma and follow a strict diet if you do. And do not sleep with your make up on.

Drink your green tea before bedtime, it will help you sleep fast and heal pimples too. Green tea, like many fruits and berries, contain polyphenols. Polyphenols have been studied for their antioxidant potential with promising results, one is it controls acne.

Last week, I have attended an event at Diana Stalder's clinic at  the SM Megamall branch. They have launched the Anti-acne Kit- a complete regimen that is specifically designed for acne-prone skin. The event was attended by daughter Diana Stalder and selected media.

What I love about Diana Stalder's is that they also sell organic meals, juices,  and snacks through dsCafe situated inside their clinic.

They introduced Lick Iced Tea a concoction of green tea and black tea to help heal pimples. According to studies, drinking green tea can reduce the skin’s production of sebum by about 50%.

Drinking 3 to 4 cups of green tea daily helps balance hormones.

I love love their juices too especially the avocado variant. You should try them. They're gluten and sugar free.

=====
Acne, also known as acne vulgaris, occurs when hair follicles are clogged with dead skin cells and oil from the skin. It is characterized by blackheads or whiteheads, pimples, oily skin, and possible scarring. It primarily affects areas of the skin with a relatively high number of oil glands, including the face, upper part of the chest, and back. Acne breakouts can plague you throughout your teens and 20s; It may haunt you still at your 30s. Some may be pimple free but had pimples at 30s, that is adult acne and yes, acne is not only for teens.

Adult acne are commonly caused by hormonal change, stress, heredity, sensitive skin and diet.

Hormones. Any change in your hormone level can cause acne breakout. Male hormones in both men and women tend to increase during puberty, pregnancy and menopause, causing the oil glands to enlarge and produce more oil.

Stress. Experts say stress can lead to acne by signaling the release of cortisol, a hormone that helps produce more pore-clogging oil.

Hereditary. Unfortunately, some of us are simply predisposed to have acne.
Sensitive skin. Products that are too heavy for your skin can easily block the pores and cause acne breakout.

Diet. While unhealthy diet certainly doesn’t help acne, avoid acne-causing food and drink plenty of water.

While you think it is easy to get rid of the zits, it is not. With thorough research and development and clinical studies, Diana Stalder came out with products to help you achieve a clean and clear skin.

Here's Diana Stalder Anti-acne Kit- a complete regimen that is specifically designed for acne-prone skin. It has natural antibacterial agent that heals and dries up pimples fast. It consists of the following products: Lemon Soap, Acne Solution Toner, Acne Solution Cream, and Night Therapy Gel.

Take a break from breakouts! With Diana Stalder products, services and team of aesthetic specialists, get in some relaxation while improving the condition of your skin at the same time.

Tip: Drinking green tea for acne can reduce inflammation, which is directly correlated to the clear skin process and plays a role in the frequency and severity of acne breakouts. Green tea can relieve acne symptoms; It is filled with antioxidants that fight free radicals and heals damaged skin.

dS Cafe now offers Lick Iced Tea! It is the only full-bodied tea drink that maximizes the flavors of green and black tea.. Green and Black Tea are naturally bitter in taste. So, to satisfy most people, Lick makes use of cane sugar, a better alternative to the usual table sugar complemented with Stevia Plant Extract. What the plant does is heighten the sweetness of the cane while making sure the calorie intake remains low. Each bottle only has 130 calories in it, so you can drink it anytime without any guilt!.

Over 500 people come together for a weekend of Ultimate frisbee at the first ever Jamba Juice Whirl’d Cup

What do you get when you blend a plastic disc, a diverse community, and a thirst for new experiences? The very first Jamba Juice Whirl’d Cup, of course. Jamba Juice is focused on blending real whole fruits and veggies to create great tasting and refreshing beverages. In its maiden tournament at the Alabang Country Club, Jamba Juice showed how life can be Better Blended as it brought together different kinds of people into a community sharing in the spirit of Ultimate frisbee over smoothies.\

For Mark De Joya, Brand Development Director for Jamba Juice, Ultimate frisbee strongly resonates with the brand. “Jamba Juice believes in mixing it up, having a positive energy, and creating rich human experiences. We take unusual combinations and blend them together to create unique experiences for our customers. And that’s what the Whirl’d Cup is about – blending all these components to create a fun, open, inclusive event where people can take part in the growing Ultimate community,” he said.

Ultimate Frisbee, or simply known as Ultimate, has been gaining popularity in the Philippines. It’s a no-contact, self-officiated sport that only really needs a disc and a place to play. No special equipment required, just Spirit. It’s due to this very simple nature that has drawn fans and players from all walks of life.

“Ultimate is about the Spirit of the Game. It doesn’t matter what your background is or where you come from. Anyone can give Ultimate a try, have some fun, learn some new things, and meet great people along the way,” said Pinggoy Bautista, President of the Philippine Flying Disc Association, the official governing body of all disc sports in the country.

This diversity was on full display at the recently concluded  Jamba Juice Whirl’d Cup 2018, as men, women, and children from different backgrounds came together to play, compete, and have fun. Kids as young as 10 years old were throwing discs to veterans of the game who were in their 40s. The tournament had musicians, corporate executives, service professionals, entrepreneurs, and people from other professions – all of whom bonded over smoothies like Jamba’s Piña Colada Refresher – in between their matches.

Bullet Dumas, a musician and math teacher, has been in the game for several years now and has blended his artistic interests with his love of the game. “You don’t normally associate musicians with sports but with Ultimate, anyone can play. I’ve come to appreciate Ultimate as an art as well – the skill and movement has a certain grace to it,” he noted in Filipino.

There was no shortage of new players as well, who were welcomed with open arms by the community. Survivor castaway and all-around dad Chuckie Dreyfus, a man of diverse talents who is no stranger to mixing it up, played well in his very first foray into Ultimate. “It was a fantastic experience. Considering it was my first time to play, my teammates were so welcoming. In the span of two days, I fell in love with the game and the people,” he said.

It wasn’t all fun and games as the 31 teams battled hard to win. The matches got progressively more intense as the weekend went on. Players were jumping and diving to make crucial plays. In the end, there were 4 teams who emerged champions of their respective brackets: Pancake X (Pool A), DC Brats (Pool B), The Saints (Pool C), and Hux (Pool D).

More than winning and losing, it was all about the spirit of the game. “What really struck me was the sportsmanship and camaraderie. Everyone was competing hard but also encouraging and congratulating other teams. That’s what made me love Ultimate. And that’s what made this weekend really special,” said Sel Guevarra, a sportscaster, professional bodybuilder, and an Ultimate newbie.

Jamba Juice made sure players and fans alike were hydrated and energized throughout the two-day tournament. In between matches, players would flock to the Jamba Juice Fender Blender, a mobile smoothie truck, to get their fix of fresh fruit blends and talk about the game they all play.

With over 500 people from all over attending the Whirl’d Cup, it looks like we can expect more Ultimate action from Jamba Juice in the future. “At Jamba, we want to support those who want to drink life up. So it’s refreshing to see the level of diversity, inclusivity, and community in a competitive sport like Ultimate. We believe that this kind of blending truly squeezes the most of what life has to offer. It’s more than just a plastic disc – it’s the community of those that move it that makes it truly better blended. When it comes to chasing a better blended life, we have a simple mantra: Thirst Begins Today. So there’s no better time to start than now. That said, it is events like this that we look forward to seeing more of in the future,” said Stephanie Elumba, Marketing Manager for Jamba Juice.

BRATS (Boy R. Abunda Talk Series) is holding another interesting round of sharing life stories from guest speakers on July 25

Following its successful launch last month, BRATS (Boy R. Abunda Talk Series) is holding another interesting round of sharing life stories from guest speakers, interacting with the audience and delivering inspiring message from Boy Abunda on July 25, 7 p.m., at the Satin Room 2 of Seda Vertis North.

BRATS will focus on the topic about Mental Health in an aim to encourage people to speak up about their own experiences and share their points of view with individuals who may be struggling to explain what they are going through. According to mentalhealth.gov, Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. If one experiences mental health problems, his thinking, mood and behavior could be affected.

Just recently, news involving the suicide deaths of fashion designer Kate Spade and chef, author and TV host Anthony Bourdain shocked the world. The cause of the disheartening act was linked to depression. No one knew what was going through inside of them days or even hours before they cut their lives short.

What's best for any individual is to never be ashamed to openly talk about how he/she feels and share what goes through the mind to identify early on the source of the problem.

As what Boy said in his BRATS opening remarks, people need to talk to each other. "We need to touch each other's lives. We need to listen to each other. We are in a wired generation. One of our goals is to go back to the basics. To enjoy laughter, aspirations and conversations. And it should be experienced live."

In BRATS: Mental Health, guest speakers Miss International 2016 Kylie Versoza, actress and model Jasmine Curtis Smith, actress and screen writer Bela Padilla,  NGO advocate Quennie Maravillas  and student Nykko Bautista are ready to share their own stories with the audience and listen to what anyone wants to say without the need to ask for anybody's permission.

CIGNAL ENTERTAINMENT’S ANG BABAENG ALLERGIC SA WIFI EXAMINES LOVE IN THE TIME OF THE INTERNET

In this digital age, being single is one thing, but living a life without the internet?

That’s almost like living in the the Dark Ages or being in solitary confinement-- minus the jail bars.

As much as we hate to admit it, we eat, breath, and live our lives on the internet and the only time we go offline is when we need to get some sleep.

We even manage most of our relationships online, and for a lot of people, those “likes” and “comments” have become a gauge of their friendships.

But what if you suddenly can’t use any form of technology? Will you be doomed to be alone forever?

CIGNAL ENTERTAINMENT, the new original content division of CIGNAL, in partnership with THE IDEAFIRST COMPANY and OCTOBERTRAIN FILMS, presents a fresh look at love in the digital age with “Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa WiFi.”

When a teenage girl develops an allergy to Wi-Fi, she is forced to live in a remote province, pushing her to reevaluate her relationships and the boy she believes is her one true love.

The movie stars Sue Ramirez, Markus Peterson, Jameson Blake and is directed by award winning director Jun Robles Lana.

“What interested me most about the idea, when I came across a 2009 news report about a British man who was allergic to Wi-Fi, is the opportunity to explore the underlying sadness and emptiness of modern relationships,” shares Director Jun Robles Lana.

Nowadays, with the advances of technology, no matter where we go, it’s so easy to get in touch with our loved ones. But a lot of our correspondence has also been reduced to emojis and likes and superficial interactions online. What happens if the technology that’s supposed to connect you to the whole world suddenly isolates you literally and takes away your freedom and the life you once lived and knew?”

Can love endure without an internet connection?

Lana’s interesting new take on love immediately drew netizen’s attention as its first trailer released last year hit one million views on Facebook just eight hours after being uploaded and continues to be one of the most viewed and talked about upcoming local movie trailer. As a matter of fact, after releasing the second trailer on July 12, it trended as number one on Twitter in just 2 hours after the posting.

Ang Babaeng Allergic sa WiFi” is Cignal Entertainment’s first venture into full length feature film production and is one of the eight feature films chosen by the Film Development Council of the Philippines for the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2018 happening in August.

Is your drinking water acidic?

I remember myself at my worst when I was at my heaviest.

I was in my early 30’s weighing 145lbs, and since I’m just 5’2 that was almost 40lbs over my ideal weight.

I felt miserable—every single day.

I lost my confidence and I would cringe every time I looked at the mirror.

I was fat and my body was making me suffer for all that extra weight.

I had difficulty of breathing. My knees made some strange popping sounds when I climbed stairs at the hospital where I used to work. My pimples were erupting and were all over my face, and I was also suffering from insomnia.

I knew I had to see a doctor and his simple advice was for me to lose weight and had a proper exercise.

So I did.

I enrolled myself in a gym near our house and I religiously attended everyday after work even though all I wanted to do was sleep.  Eventually, I achieved my desired weight and I started to feel better.

I remember only drinking lots of water and avoided soda, juices and iced tea. Discipline is key and you had to control yourself.

Im sharing this story because, no matter what diet fad you follow it will always boil down to keeping yourself active—doing those daily exercises and choosing the right food.

When I was trying to lose all that pounds I was very choosy about what I put into my body. But now that I’m a lot older, I’m gaining fats faster than I could lose it and no matter how I try to eat less, I’m seeing more belly around my waist. It may just be 10 lbs but when its harder to lose weight when you are at a certain age. Now I have difficulty cutting on brewed teas with pearls. Because that is my only comfort drink,  that's why  I  was constantly looking for a way to get back on cleansing my system.

A few days ago, I attended an event about alkaline and how it could have a positive effect on your health. I just learned that for one to live healthy, your drinking water should be PH7 or above. But PH7.4 alkaline water is the normal rate for any individual to take.

According to study, Alkaline water is believed to slow down aging, boost energy, regulate pH levels, and prevent diseases. This is less acidic than tap water and helps you maintain an alkaline diet. It is treated to give a pH number higher than seven. Tap water is generally pH neutral, whilst some bottled mineral waters may be slightly alkaline or slightly acidic. Alkaline water, however, is deliberately intended to be sufficiently alkaline as to have a positive effect on the body. If you don’t suffer from kidney problems, you might want to give alkaline water a try.

SOBBA, short for Sterilized Oxygenated Bicarbonate – Buffered Alkaline is an invention of Engr Harry Freires.

Chemical Engr Harry Freires who first developed it when he was working in the middle east. According to his presentation, adding a few drops of SOBBA to your drink (coffee, water, juice, even beer!) is an excellent acid neutralizer and will boost your alkaline levels that will help restore blood pH level to 7.4 returning your body to its homeostatic state.

He said most of the food and drink we take are acidic in nature while some are strongly alkaline. Your body has naturally build-in ‘buffering system” to resist and maintain your blood pH to normal. However, as one grows older, the body’s buffering capacity decreases. SOBBA helps to resist and maintain blood pH level to normal and assists your body’s requirement to attain a homeostatic state.

SOBBA is an ozonized water treated with high-energy oxygen to contain elevated oxygen levels for the prevention of serious diseases. The buffering action of SOBBA also aids in oxygen absorption (dissolved oxygen directly proportional to alkalinity) providing a one-two knockout punch geared towards OPTIMUM HEALTH and BETTER LIFE

Each of us received 30ML of Sobba bottle last Sunday. I took 4 drops of Sobba per every glasses of water.  I have been taking it for 6 days already. It is tasteless and doesnt alter the taste of your favorite drinks.

I observed that it  helped cure my cough, as everyone around me has been already down with the flu. So I decided to add Sobba drops to my drinks and thought, I believe it helped me avoid from getting cough and colds. I think it helped with my hoarse voice and it kind of helped stop my craving for sweets and carbs the past week. I haven’t checked my current weigh as I’m still trying out SObba if it could also help lose weight and if it does, it may just be the supplement I need to make me live a bit more healthier.
