Cholo Camp: Learn how to master offense, defense, shooting and game fundamentals this summer

Summer is always a great time to bond with your kids.



Unless you have three kids, a household to manage and a job that requires you to work shifting hours, as much as you like being with them, sometimes the temperature just matches your temper.

I remember when my kids were still young, now don’t get me wrong, I love my kids, but having all three of them in the house, at the same time, let’s just say those weren’t the good old days. Everytime school is out, the biggest challenge for me is how to keep them occupied. Because only when they are busy can I take those quick breaks in between cooking, doing the laundry and cleaning the house.

My daughter now has two kids of her own, Finn who is 8, and French who is turning 3, and she’s facing the same problem with Finn on vacation. It’s a good thing that Finn is quite behaved and could keep himself entertained just by watching Youtube or Netflix all day. Still, leaving them to their gadgets isn’t the right way to raise a child. Especially at Finn’s age when he needs to learn new things and develop his interests


That is why I told my daughter about Cholo Camp basketball training camp. If you have a kid aged 3 up to 18 and would like to get them into sports, there’s no better way to do it than to enroll them in a sports clinic.



Not only do they discover or develop their basketball moves on the court they can also make a lot of friends as well. Developed by former PBA player Cholo Villanueva, the basketball training program teaches kids how to master offense, defense, shooting and game fundamentals with the help of Coach Cholo and his staff.

Coach Cholo himself has played and coached in all levels of basketball in the country. He suited up as a Green Archer in the UAAP and won Finals MVP in 2007. He was drafted in the PBA and played for then Air21 and Global Port.

To hone his coaching skill, he was initially a member of the coaching staff of both DLSU under Franz Pumaren and three PBA teams. And then he coached the DLSU Graduate School, Jose Rizal University, and other commercial teams.

Equipped with a degree in educational psychology, he became a guidance counselor and special education coordinator of Reach International. He has always wanted to teach kids more than just the rules of basketball. He wants them to be good leaders and followers, and be able to control emotions in winning and losing games.

One of the kids I met during our interview with Coach was Ryde Losorata. This kid has a lot of potential and discipline for the sport. He told that he wanted to win each game he played.

Mexico's Jonathan Paredes was at his magnificent best on day one of the opening stop of the 2019 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, ripping his first dive into the Small Lagoon in El Nido, Philippines, to earn two 10s from the judges and a crucial lead after two rounds.

In the women's competition, Yana Nestsiarava of Belarus is the surprise leader after displaying unerring consistency to post two identical high scores with her first two dives direct from the rock face.

2017 World Series champion Paredes, well-known for his often immaculate entries, is aiming for a strong start this season following the loss of his title to England's Gary Hunt last year. And the 29-year-old couldn't have asked for a better start from the tricky-looking take-off points positioned directly on the visually striking limestone cliff face. He leads the men's standings heading into Saturday's final rounds ahead of Poland's Kris Kolanus and Italian wildcard Alessandro De Rose.

De Rose himself dismissed the idea that the tiny rocky launchpads were a hindrance to the divers on day one: "The hardest part is the climb up the cliff face. Once I've planted my feet and positioned myself on the take-off spot, I'm comfortable and ready to dive as normal."

Nestsiarava, who finished last season in fifth place, had a flying start in the scorching Philippines sunshine. Her first two dives into the emerald lagoon waters earned her a trio of 8.5s from the judges, and the Belarusian holds top spot at the midway point ahead of the impressive American wildcard Ginger Huber and three-time champion Rhiannan Iffland of Australia.



"This is a location which is a bit difficult for me because I'm from Belarus and there it's cold," said Nestsiarava. "The sun almost killed me. Actually the view and everything around is awesome. I'm happy with my dives. I was a little bit surprised because the platform is not comfortable, so I'm happy with this, but it's only halfway and we'll see tomorrow."

Meanwhile, local favorite, Filipino Australian, Xantheia Pennisi, managed to improve her round 2 standings with strong dives. Pennisi’s Forward 2 Somersaults 1/2 Twist earned her an average 7.5 score across the judges to move her into 8th place.

On Saturday, the action will move over to the Big Lagoon, where the divers will be able to execute their more difficult dives from the comfort of two solid platforms constructed on the cliffs.

As part of the government’s efforts to diversify its investment portfolio, Pag-IBIG Fund announced last year that they will be looking for LEFMs.

According to Pag-IBIG Fund Chief Executive Officer Acmad Rizaldy Moti, Pag-IBIG will invest a total of PhP 5 billion in local equities, broken down into five PhP 1 billion lots.

The ambassadors are not just the faces of the Shell brands but are living proof of the company’s commitment to their customers, as they relate their personal experience in using Shell's products and services through the years.

One of the most influential celebrities in the country today, Maine Mendoza, is the new brand ambassador for Shell FuelSave. Launched with a new formulation last year, Shell FuelSave has DYNAFLEX Technology designed to help improve engine efficiency.

Shell has always been embedded in Mendoza’s life even before rising to fame, as their family owns a number of Shell retail station dealerships. “My parents wanted to invest in a company that is recognized for credibility and quality,” she shared. “So when the opportunity came, they didn’t have to think twice about partnering with Shell.”

Now that she drives around the city a lot, she only has one go-to fuel. “I’ve always been practical, and I always go for the smart option. I recommend Shell FuelSave because it’s so fuel efficient that I can navigate traffic with no worries,” she added.
