vivo invites people to explore passions with “Take Back the Night” campaign for V19 & V19 Neo

A lot has changed since quarantine measures were put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19. Nowadays, homes are no longer just for relaxation as it has become an extension of the workplace. The situation has changed how people perceive work-life balance, with some learning new skills to be more productive at work and adapt to the new normal.

And while community lockdown restrictions are beginning to ease, the practice of social distancing and staying at home is one that is not expected to disappear any time soon.

But being stuck at home need not be all that bad. Despite adjusting to work-from-home set-ups and finding more worthwhile ways to spend quarantine time, the lockdown period has also presented an opportunity for people to re-explore their individuality and passions, especially at night.

And for those who seem to have temporarily lost the motivation to pursue passions due to restrictions, vivo begs to differ.

For its latest campaign, the brand calls on people to take back the night—to take back their prime, passionate selves—regardless of the situation.

In the coming weeks, the leading global technology company is set to launch 2 new V series smartphones; the V19 and the V19 Neo. Each with features so advanced, they are deemed to be the ultimate tools for celebrating individuality and exploring passions at night.

A series of online events and activities will accompany the launch of the handsets, to help individuals discover new passions they can pursue—all while highlighting how the smartphones can be the best companions to take back and relish in the power of the night.

Stay tuned for the latest developments on vivo smartphones and discover how to Take Back the Night by visiting facebook.com/vivo.philippines.

Jollibee re-opens more of its stores and resumes dine-in services in select areas

Today, as the world adapts to a “new normal” due to the global pandemic, the country’s number one fast food chain Jollibee has been gearing up to go the extra mile to ensure the safety of its customers while continuing to deliver quality food and service.

As Jollibee re-opens more of its stores and resumes dine-in services in select areas, it has intensified the implementation of safety measures and sanitation protocols for its employee and customers.

The customer safety journey starts with the crew and store preparations. All store team members are required to have their temperature checked prior to entry, and while inside - are mandated to wear full protective gear, observe physical distancing, and practice regular handwashing and sanitation. The entire store – including store fixtures and utensils – undergo intensive cleaning and sanitation before, during and after business operations.  Team members are also given vitamin supplements to boost their immune system and telemedicine support to immediately attend to their health needs.  This will ensure that they are all healthy and fit to provide the best service to customers, the Alagang Jollibee way.

Customers go through a 3-step safety check before entering the store: one - stepping on disinfectant mats; two – strict wearing of face masks and three – checking of temperature. Door handles, and other store fixtures and surfaces are disinfected every thirty (30) minutes. For stores with Self-order kiosks or SOKs, they make sure that these SOKs are also sanitized before and after use. Stringent safety protocols are also in place for food preparation and handling.

Jollibee has also installed counter guards at the main counter as an additional safety precaution for customers and cashiers during order taking. The counter guards will soon be available in all Jollibee stores nationwide. In addition, it plans to install table guards on dining tables as an additional safety measure for dine-in customers. Jollibee has also placed markers across their entire store layout – from floor markers, table markers, to seat markers so customers are consistently guided to maintain at least 1-meter distance when queuing and 2-meter distance for dine-in.

To make sure all protocols are properly adhered to, Jollibee has assigned official Alagang Jollibee Hygiene Ambassadors in every store. They take the lead and oversee the strict implementation of safety precautions, such as wearing of safety gear, physical distancing, no-touch and cashless transactions, and intensified cleaning and sanitation.

Jollibee has also dedicated a priority lane for frontliners, giving medical and healthcare workers, police and military personnel, and other people involved in providing necessities and essential services, with preferential access when ordering in stores.

As a way of welcoming back diners to its stores while ensuring them that their safety remains the brand’s top priority, Jollibee is set to release a video entitled “Beeda ang Safety at Saya”. In true Jollibee fashion, the video captures the high level of safety standards that Jollibee adheres to – from safety checks for employees and customers, to cleaning and sanitation measures and in-store safety signages and markers. All of these measures are in compliance with the health protocol guidelines set by the Department of Trade and Industry for dine-in restaurants and fastfood establishments.

“We pride ourselves with our high standards of quality, safety, and cleanliness. And now as we transition to a new normal, we further intensified our safety protocols to ensure that the safety and welfare of both our employees and customers will continue to be prioritized. As we strive to bring joy through our food during this challenging time, rest assured that we will take care of our customers and people in the best possible way,” said Ferns Yu, Jollibee Philippines President.

This same high standard of safety is also applied to Jollibee’s Delivery service, wherein measures such as intensified sanitation, physical distancing and no touch transactions have been implemented since the start of the ECQ period.

Children and young people step up amidst the COVID-19 pandemic – World Vision research report

Amidst these challenging times, children and young people expressed high sense of social responsibility to fight the spread of COVID-19 in their respective communities while complying with lockdown measures, research report by World Vision finds.
The research ‘Children’s voices in times of COVID-19: Continued child activism in the face of personal challenges’ consulted over 100 children and young people in 13 countries to understand the various ways the health pandemic affected them and the actions they have taken to respond to the crisis.
The study highlights that social media platforms proved to be useful for children to share information about the risks of COVID-19 and to offer support to their peers who are feeling isolated and distressed.
‘Children and young people asserted that they could play a pivotal role in raising awareness on COVID-19 and providing information to people because, in many cases, they had better education and more access to technology and information than their parents and other community members,’ according to the study.
Rather than feeling burdened, children also expressed that participating in child-led online activities is a rewarding experience that ‘helped them transform the stress and fear they were suffering into something powerful and transformative, rather than demanding and upsetting’.

One participant from the Philippines shared, ‘I am volunteering in my community to battle the coronavirus pandemic and raise awareness about the risks the virus brings to the population. We want to ensure that the people are following the instructions and are using masks and gloves when needed. I feel this is an opportunity to help others’ (Jomarie, age 17, Philippines).
The study underscores the importance of valuing children’s voices in decision-making processes throughout the crisis and rethinking modes of participation such as opting for more digital approach or the use of community-based radio stations and posters in communities in sharing their messages widely, where internet is not present.
At the same time, the study also urges NGOs to help make online spaces conducive and safe for children’s participation, especially amidst reports of increased risk of abuse children experience online.

LRMC rolls out thermal screening system at LRT-1 stations

As part of its serious commitment to enforce health and safety measures against COVID-19, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has deployed new thermal cameras at select high-traffic LRT-1 stations for use in entry screening. LRT-1 resumed its operations last 1 June 2020 after receiving the green light from the government under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) guidelines.

The forward-looking infrared (FLIR) set-up consists of a thermal camera attached to a tripod and connected to a monitor. The camera detects the infrared energy invisible to the human eye that people and objects emit. An automatic alarm is triggered with red color notification if temperature is higher than the settings. The FLIR thermal scanning system is currently used in hospitals, establishments, and schools in Taiwan –one of the countries recognized for their most effective responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also the same system deployed at Taipei Metro.

The thermal screening system will be used at six (6) LRT-1 stations: Monumento (Northbound), Roosevelt, Doroteo Jose, Gil Puyat (Southbound), Edsa (Southbound), and Baclaran. The ones for Baclaran and EDSA have already been deployed, while the rest will be installed in the succeeding week. Other LRT-1 stations will continue to use non-contact thermometers for the temperature screening. Based on LRMC’s previously released guidelines, passengers with temperature greater than 37.6˚ C will not be allowed to enter the station.

“With the acquisition of the new FLIR scanning system and other safety measures, we’re honoring our commitment to invest in technology and continue to set the bar high when it comes to giving our LRT-1 passengers the safety and protection they deserve. We’re also asking those who are not feeling well and have flu-like symptoms to stay at home and postpone their outside travel.” said Andrea Madrid, LRMC Head of Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) Department.

Heightened disinfection measures

In addition to the new thermal scanners, LRMC has upgraded its disinfection measures using Ultraviolet C (UVC) technology, in a technical partnership with UP National Engineering Center (UPNEC). LRMC currently uses prototype handheld and 360-degree UVC lamps from UPNEC, as well as the 180-degree UVC lamps procured from Taiwan to complement chemical disinfection of trains and other facilities.

LRMC has already instituted other measures such as disinfecting mats, hygiene supply provisions, and daily health checks for all visitors and staff at LRT-1 stations, facilities, and the depot. LRMC also ensures that it is up to date with the passenger, sanitation, and safety promotion guidelines required for operation by the Inter-Agency Task Force.

Preventive and maintenance work for the line have also been undertaken during the downtime, all of which were done in accordance with the IATF’s work safety guidelines to ensure improved service.

For more updates and info on the LRT-1, follow LRMC on Facebook at facebook.com/officialLRT1, or on Twitter at @officialLRT1.
