LG Goes Live to Showcase Refs for Everybody

Following the success of their previous livestream events, LG Philippines will hold another exclusive online gathering for its fans. As the holidays are slowly coming up, the need for appliances that can keep up with the rigors of the season is crucial. Knowing Filipinos, even with socially distant celebrations, there will be plenty of food going in and out of refrigerators. With this in mind, LG conceptualized an event to highlight their different refrigerators and how each particular model is perfect for certain individuals.

Doing the hosting duties is socialite and prolific event host Tim Yap, who knows a thing or two about throwing parties. Together with LG’s Project Manager for Refs, Jillian Yap, the pair will go over the different refrigerators LG has available, and how it pairs well with a specific niche.

LG will highlight refrigerators that are perfect for young professionals, starting families, and large, extended families. Each of the refrigerators that LG will showcase make a compelling case on how it’s the best refrigerator available for its category. For example, for the fresh graduate young professionals, the single-door GR-Y33ISLZB gives a solid performance while being light on the pocket. LG’s top of the line refrigerator, the GR-X247CSAV InstaView is billed as the perfect choice for big families and large spaces. It has LG’s Instaview technology where you just knock on the fridge door and you’ll immediately see what’s inside. Aside from that, it also has the Door in Door with Inverter Linear Compressor for energy savings. A water and ice dispenser is also already built-in so you don’t need to hassle yourself with other machines.

LG will also highlight refrigerators that are ideal for startup businesses. Given how the pandemic forced individuals to adapt and pivot, home-based businesses enjoyed a boom during the start of community quarantine up until now. The GR-C33ISLZB is perfect for small startups while the GR-N222SQCN is best for those needing a bigger capacity. Both refrigerator units have wire shelves for easy stacking of items as well as LG’s smart inverter technology.

As it has become tradition, LG will also be having a special giveaway for the South Korean brand’s livestream viewers. One lucky winner will receive a brand new GR-N22SQCN refrigerator absolutely free. The details of the contest will be announced during the LazLive event so don’t forget to tune in for the giveaway mechanics. If you are in the market for a new refrigerator, a large selection of LG refrigerators will enjoy a special price during the event, just in time for the holidays.

Catch LG’s livestream at 12:00NN on LG’s Official Flagship Store in LazadaFacebook, and Youtube page.

Join the Sparky and Benny Book Launch Party on Nov.28!

The year 2020 has been an unprecedented year, not only because of COVID-19 but also because of the increasing impacts of climate change - from the wildfires in Australia and California and to the strong typhoons and hurricanes around the world.

Climate change is making itself felt more and more into our daily lives. However, it has been challenging to explain the complexities of climate change in a simple and relatable way. This was the reason for Janice Lao-Noche, a dual environmental scientist and development economist, and her 10 year old daughter, Esther, have written a book about climate change through the eyes of two kid whales who are finding out they are losing their homes. It is a personal story for children, parents and educators to understand what climate change is all about, and why it is personal to all of us. Their book is also about a story of hope - providing children a template on how they can help make a real difference with climate change.

Janice is a multi-awarded sustainability expert, having won international acclaim for her work in sustainability, including at the age of 30, co-developing a mathematical and economic model for reducing carbon emissions in the international aviation sector. Esther is a 6th grader, student athlete, and a young coder, she wants to be a marine veterinarian when she grows up. The book is published by US-based Wise Ink.

“This book is our love letter to nature and to the world, because real love means telling them the truth but also showing them what is possible. The book ends with hope, that if we take action today and do it together, we can solve the greatest threat we face as humanity - climate change,” said Lao.

What experts have said around the world about the book:

It’s just brilliant...What is most wonderful about this book is that it shows us that while our humanity has created this crisis, it will be our humanity that helps solve it.” - Dr Sally Uren, CEO, Forum for the Future (United Kingdom)

"A powerful, practically-written book that will change the way you think about climate change..." - Dr Elondra Napper, science educator (United States)

"A unique and fun book that addresses the most important part of the problem (and solution!): the human element" - Carola Wijdoogen, cofounder of Sustainability University Foundation (Netherlands)

"Sensitive, compelling story of two sea friends incorporates adventure, bravery, and teamwork to deliver a powerful tale featuring adults short of a plan and kids striving to end the impending destruction of their ocean home" - Joanna Hotung, Director, KG Group (Hong Kong)

“Equally informative and heartwarming...may this moving story compel every reader to do their part.” - Lynn Pinugu, CEO, She Talks Asia (Philippines)

This November 28, 8pm EST / 5pm PST (November 29 9am in the Philippines), Janice and Esther cordially invite concerned seatizens to give back to the oceans by joining the Sparky and Benny Book Launch Party. The seas have given us so much life, adventure and nutrition, and it's time for a thanksgiving. As a community, we can help make the seas healthier and the earth live longer.

In partnership with Save Philippines Seas, Janice, Esther, Sparky and Benny look forward to seeing everyone to save our homes and our seas.

“The book blends reality and fantasy: two whales on a journey to learn about the impacts of climate change on their home,” said Anna Oposa, who leads Save Philippine Seas. It’s not every day that we read about how climate change affects our oceans, and it’s a story that needs to be told more. With this book, children and youth can learn to make small but meaningful lifestyle changes and inspire their parents to do the same.”

To join the book launch and #HelpSparkyAndBenny Save the Seas with Janice and Esther Lao Noche, RSVP at bit.ly/sparkybennyparty

Diwatang Maria looks forward to a better 2021

Did you know that you can use the Diwatang Maria Cacao variant if you have skin disorders like psoriasis? It helps calm the skin with oats, shea butter and Aloe Vera as main ingredients. Its cleansing, anti-aging , anti- irritant and also a moisturizing soap.

Diwatang Maria Corporation recently held a virtual conference and announced the company's milestones that they had achieved during the past months amid the pandemic.

Diwatang Maria president and CEO Ma. Concepcion ‘Macon’ Macalintal shared with the members of the press and bloggers the little triumphs of the company over the past months that she see will eventually help Diwatang Maria realize its goals for the brand especially that her products are now available in All Day Supermarket, SM Kultura and Sesou.

Macalintal, who is a passionate supporter of Filipino products and Filipino culture aims to encourage more Filipino consumers to patronize locally-made products especially during this global economic crisis.

Small victories

According to Macalintal, Diwatang Maria started to push the brand to the market only a couple of weeks before the lockdown, which became the biggest hurdle for Diwatang Maria to move and market the products.

“No one was prepared for the lockdown and who would have thought that we will witness a global pandemic and economic crisis that we are facing now. But we have these little successes amid all these trials that everyone is facing,” she stressed.

Macalintal said that she risked a lot of things when she started building the brand. “I have so much faith in the ingenuity of Filipinos and I love our culture of Diwatas so I named the products after the three Filipina Diwatas.  I quit my career because I know in my heart I have good products to offer and I want to reach out to many people who are depressing over their skin conditions, which I was in the same position before. I was dreaming big –  to sell products that are also environment friendly but very good for the skin.”

One of the risks she took was for her products to be organic and eco-friendly but still affordable. “I believe that one of our successes is being able to offer premium organic soaps and at the same time package them in environment-friendly materials and sell at a reasonable price.”

The past months, Diwatang Maria relied on its online platforms to push its products until resellers coming from different parts of the country began offering the soaps. “On our 2nd anniversary last September, we launched our Bayanihan Program, which was aimed at getting at least 200 resellers by offering them a reseller kit that only cost P1632, inclusive of 15 soaps and sample soaps.”

Macalintal stressed that the Bayanihan Program was to help those who are looking for livelihood while in quarantine. “My heartfelt gratitude to all our resellers who play a big part on the growth of our company. Through the Bayanihan Program we reached our goal to grow the community of our resellers all over the county.”

Pushing the product a little bit more, those who have tried the soaps from other countries also started to partner with Diwatang Maria. Believing in the ability and knowledge of Macalintal, former colleagues who are living in other countries also shared her passion to promote Filipino products. “This year, Diwatang Maria reached the shores of the Bahamas, Singapore and the United Kingdom. And we are very pleased with the outpour of support of our kababayans in these countries. We also have orders from other continents but we will accommodate them next year, since our goal for 2020 is to penetrate the Philippine market better this last quarter of 2020.

In the face of the pandemic Diwatang Maria is also thankful for another milestone, which she knows will open more doors for the brand. “A couple of months ago, one of the best news we received this year was when All Day Supermarket accepted Diwatang Maria. We are grateful for the their trust and for giving us the chance to be in their shelves,:” Macalintal noted.

To make the year even better Diwatang Maria is once again rejoicing for another great feat – SM Kultura and Sesou will now offer Diwatang Maria soaps in their stores.

“Last April, I was struggling to do everything on my own since I can’t let my staff risk their health in delivering the orders. I drove and delivered all the orders even if they are just two or three orders, or sometimes just one soap. I braved all the checkpoints and curfews, and looking back at the past months, I feel really blessed and thankful for all these little wins,” she added.

Diwatang Maria looks forward to a better 2021

Currently, Diwatang Maria premium organic soaps are available in Shopee, Lazada, All Day Supermarket, SM Kultura, Sesou and other online stores and social media platforms; however, the company is looking at bigger distribution channels since the demands from consumers nationwide are also getting bigger.

Aside from this, Diwatang Maria will also be launching new product line that is also organic and eco-friendly and will surely follow the same branding – carrying Filipino names.

“We have several projects in the pipeline that will push the brand to the market and of course to continue support our small entrepreneurs to earn while at home. While we are still navigating and learning the curves of the new normal, Diwatang Maria next year will be offering new products that will benefit many people who have sensitive skin concerns,” Macalintal said.

More so, the young CEO also stressed that with all the achievements of the brand this year, she hopes to inspire other entrepreneurs not to give up and to persevere more. “I know it is hard, actually really hard to see if whatever we are doing will eventually lead us to success, there will be days that we want to give up and there will be days that things look okay…we just need to focus on our goal, and that is to succeed,” she quipped.

Datu Puti commits to achieving a net-zero plastic footprint by 2021

NutriAsia, the country’s leading producer and distributor of sauces and condiments including Datu Puti, UFC, Golden Fiesta, and Locally, is joining Plastic Credit Exchange (PCEx) to attain plastic neutral certification for its Datu Puti brand.

A step toward the company’s climate change goals, NutriAsia has pledged to make the entire Datu Puti product portfolio plastic neutral, which entails offsetting 100% of its plastic footprint over the last year and for the future. This means calculating the plastic usage in Datu Puti’s bottles, bottle caps, cap seals, and stand-up pouches, then through PCEx, diverting the equivalent amount of post-consumer plastic from nature. Datu Puti commits to achieving a net-zero plastic footprint by 2021.

Since 2014, NutriAsia has been taking part in the movement towards a zero-waste community through projects like Datu Puti’s Jumbohalang Tambalan, BYOB (Bring Your Own Bote)  DENR-EMB’s Refill Revolution, as well as through the launch of Locally, a socially responsible brand for the “local good”. A stepping stone to sustainability, these projects raised awareness on responsible plastic use.

Through their engagement with PCEx, NutriAsia activates a key piece of their sustainability plan. Angie Flaminiano, President at NutriAsia, said, “With our brands being an integral part of every Filipino household, NutriAsia takes its role in nation-building with much fervor.   We strive to live by our commitment to our consumers of making their lives Masarap (good), Masaya (happy). This partnership with Plastic Credit Exchange is part of fulfilling that promise. NutriAsia through plastic neutrality is intensifying its drive for sustainability.  We are one with the nation in ensuring quality lives for our countrymen by protecting our environment, now and in the future.”

“We welcome NutriAsia to our global movement of changemakers,” said Nanette Medved-Po, Founder and Chairwoman at PCEx. “By choosing to undergo the boldest action to help put an end to plastic waste, NutriAsia underscores its ongoing commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of their brands like Datu Puti.”

Listen to children’s experiences of COVID-19 - UNICEF

In commemoration of World Children’s Day on November 20, UNICEF is amplifying the voices of many Filipino children experiencing various threats to the fulfilment of their rights and urges the Philippine government and society to listen to their concerns.

This year’s anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified human rights treaty in the world, takes place during one of the most challenging moments for the fulfilment of children’s rights in the Philippines. The COVID-19 pandemic, combined with a threatening typhoon season, have upended thousands of children’s lives and has left many more children uncertain about their future.

Children face a trifecta of threats: direct consequences of the disease itself, interruption in essential services and increasing poverty and inequality.

A UNICEF report, Averting a Lost COVID Generation, reveals data from different countries of the dire and growing consequences for children as the pandemic drags on. Children’s and adolescents’ mental health has suffered during the pandemic. Globally, the number of children living in multidimensional poverty –without access to education, health, housing, nutrition, sanitation, or water is estimated to have soared to a 15 per cent increase, an additional 150 million children by mid-2020. To address these, UNICEF recommends a Six Point Action Plan that calls on governments and partners to prioritize children’s needs:

1.      Ensure all children learn, including by closing the digital divide.

2.      Guarantee access to health and nutrition services and make vaccines affordable and available to every child.

3.      Support and protect the mental health of children and young people and bring an end to abuse, gender-based violence and neglect in childhood.

4.      Increase access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene and address environmental degradation and climate change

5.      Reverse the rise in child poverty and ensure an inclusive recovery for all; and

6.      Redouble efforts to protect and support children and their families living through conflict, disaster and displacement.

“We must listen to children and young people now, working with them to secure a better future,” UNICEF Philippines Representative Oyunsaikhan Dendevnorov says. “In the years to come, children and young people will be living with the impact of this pandemic and with the consequence of how we choose to respond. They must have a say in the decisions that will affect their future.”

UNICEF social media channels are highlighting the voices of young people like Vanessa, 21 years old, who are speaking up about their experiences, needs, and their aspirations for the future.

“Right now, children need to be reassured that they will be safe and that there is a brighter tomorrow. They need to be supported, as they try to adjust to these changes brought about by this pandemic at a pace that they are comfortable in. They need to be secured, be kept safe and protected from all the threats that are heightened during this time,” she says.

"I have the right to learn and make my dreams come true. I want to be a doctor and heal the sick and save lives. I dedicate my life to Bangsamoro children. We all have the right to dream," Bai Aleyah Limba, 10 years old from Cotabato City, shares.

On November 20, UNICEF Philippines calls upon children and youth to raise their voices and calls upon adults to listen to them and commit to acting on their concerns.

“Today, together with my fellow National Goodwill Ambassadors Anne Curtis and Daphne Oseña-Paez, I join the children and young people of the Philippines in reimagining a better world for every child. A world where they are healthy, educated, safe, and protected. A world where they enjoy all of their rights. Let’s make this reimagined world a reality for every child,” UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Gary Valenciano says.
