Golden Haven is making it easy even for immigrants and residents from other countries to invest in memorial lots

Few people embody the intrepid Pinoy spirit more than Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). Hard-working and selfless, they are rightly held up as the country’s modern-day heroes as they boldly venture out into the world to work so their families can thrive. For decades now, their singular drive to provide for their loved ones has signifcantly contributed to the country’s economic growth in terms of huge dollar remittances.

The Philippine Statistics Association reports that roughly 2.2 million OFWs worked abroad during the period of April to September 2019. The Philippine government advised these OFWs to save their hard-earned money—or even better, to invest this in their provinces until such time when they can come home and retire. Doing so would help secure their families’ future and at the same time stimulate the economy of cities and towns outside the Metro.

Recent surveys now reveal that OFWs are indeed looking into solid investments in the Philippines that will provide passive income as they continue to toil abroad. There are several options for OFWs in this regard: treasury bonds, mutual funds, real estate, franchise businesses, stocks, and many more.

However, one of the most stable and lucrative avenues is investing in properties that show robust value appreciation over the long term. With lower bank rates due to the pandemic and the foreseeable economic upturn, finance specialists regard memorial lots as a good place to start, particularly if these are from a highly trusted real estate developer like Golden Haven Memorial Parks.

Golden Haven, a well-established memorial developer in the Philippines, is present in more than 30 major cities across the country, empowering OFWs from the provinces to build a legacy in their hometowns. With memorial lots gaining close to 20 percent annual value appreciation, OFWs, who comprise ten percent of Golden Haven’s investors, are now earning from their assets that, as of this time, range from Php 53,000 for a single lawn lot up to Php 10M for mausoleums.

Investors may also benefit from a plan that includes long-term maintenance, wherein funds are used for the property and for overall maintenance of the park.

To date, Golden Haven is making it easy even for immigrants and residents from other countries to invest in memorial lots. With online services—available through their official website—fast-tracking transactions, they only need two valid IDs to start the process.

Finally, Golden Haven provides different payment schemes and options that suit starting investors. And once full payment for the plan has been made, perpetual ownership is granted to them.

Red Rosales, COO of Golden Haven, is understandably upbeat about all these. Although he acknowledges that OFWs have numerous choices for investing their hard-earned wages, Rosales asserts that investing in Golden Haven memorial lots as the Philippines moves toward economic recovery is the safest and wisest option. “We have consistently shown a healthy appreciation in value over the years. And for OFWs who want to ride on the momentum, Golden Haven is the way to go.”

Golden Haven is a subsidiary of publicly listed Golden Bria Holdings Inc., currently positioned as one of the largest real estate companies in the country in terms of market capitalization valued at more than 200 billion pesos.

FamiLigtas calls for increased attention to GBV against LGBTQ+

As the nation observes the annual 18-day campaign to end gender-based violence (GBV), FamiLigtas reminds us to also address the violence and discrimination experienced by the LGBTQ+ community

FamiLigtas is a digital campaign against GBV in the Philippines during the time of COVID-19. But because GBV is most commonly associated with spousal and domestic violence against women, the experiences of violence among lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, queers, and other non-binary individuals are often left unheard.

“We advocate for the equal treatment for all persons, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression,” said Sabrina Gacad of Lunas Collective. “While there are numerous urgent challenges facing LGBTQ+ persons worldwide, there are many windows of opportunity to promote and protect their human rights.”

As the LGBTQ+ community continues to fight for the passage of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill in congress, more and more non-binary people continue to experience discrimination, and even violence, at home and in public spaces.

A lack of protection for LGBTQ+ persons

According to Human Rights Watch, only 15% of Filipinos are living in areas with ordinances against discrimination and violence on the basis of SOGIE. The same report also states that the low reporting of GBV to the community is caused by the negative messages that the victim-survivors are receiving from authorities.

Additionally, there is little to no statistical data on the cases of GBV against the LGBTQ+ in the Philippines, unlike violence against women and children, which has annual report from the Philippine National Police and other government and non-government organizations. GBV cases against LGBTQ+ are often either unreported, undocumented, or misclassified due to absence of specific laws to protect them against discrimination and violence.

That lack of legislation is emphasized by Justin Francis Bionat, Executive Director of Youth Voices Count, as problematic for youth. “Because we’re LGBTQ+ at the developmental stages of our youth, we already have a lot of things to go through. But there are barriers that you have to go through, with some big firms not hiring people just because they dress or identify a certain way.”

Kasama ang LGBTQ+ sa pamilya

The family is the most common perpetrator of GBV in the Philippines—whether targeted against women, children, or LGBTQ+ persons. According to the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, LGBTQ+ children are often verbally, emotionally, sexually, and physically

abused by their own families. This is due to the notion that the children’s non-conforming gender attitudes are unnatural and immoral.

A recent survey by Youth Voices Count across Asia-Pacific revealed that 65% of LGBTQ+ youth are still dependent on their parents. According to Bionat, this indicates that many have had to go back home because of COVID-19, potentially leading to re-exposures to trauma and certain vulnerabilities.

For Melo Esquerra, a broadcast journalist and staunch LGBTQ+ advocate, and Mommy Vie, a proud Pride mom, safety at home begins with acceptance, love, and compassion from members of the family, without regard for gender.

BDO pays tribute to OFWs and their families at Pamaskong Handog 2020:Sama-Sama Tayo sa Pasko!

Even amid the new normal, BDO and SM Supermalls are finding ways to continue its annual tradition of paying tribute to overseas Filipinos (OFs) and their families during the Christmas season.

The companies said that this year, the much anticipated “Pamaskong Handog” will be held as a virtual event; online but still full of star-studded guests and performers and exciting activities that Pamaskong Handog has been known for all these years.

This announcement was made today at a media teleconference, which officially launched  Pamaskong Handog 2020: Sama-Sama Tayo sa Pasko.

Among those who joined the announcement were BDO Unibank Senior Vice President Genie T. Gloria, BDO Unibank Senior Vice President Jamie Nasol, BDO Network Bank Senior Vice President Karen Cua, and SM Supermalls Senior Assistant Vice President for Marketing-South Luzon Ritchie Gonzales.

Ms. Gloria of BDO said this year’s Pamaskong Handog will be streamed through Facebook live on the BDO Kabayan Facebook page and will be simulcast on the BDO Unibank YouTube channel on December 13. The event will feature Piolo Pascual, Christian Antolin, Marcelito Pomoy, Beks Batallion, and Donekla.

“Our overseas Filipinos have been through a lot this year. We hope that by keeping the tradition of Pamaskong Handog alive, even under the rules of safety, we can still give a sense of optimism, that hope that we will get through this and we will all bounce back,” said Gloria.

Apart from the celebrities joining the event, viewers from all over the world will be treated to enjoy virtual games with many prizes.

Also participating as sponsors of the Pamaskong Handog event include World Remit, MoneyGram, Western Union, and Ria Money Transfer.

The event is one of the many initiatives of BDO, which has been actively engaging with OFs and their families, as many of them depend on the Bank for their financial-related transactions.

BDO Remit has become one of the nation’s lifeblood for years and during these trying times. It provides a safe, trusted, and reliable remittance channel for millions of Filipinos. Another service, BDO Cash Agad, provides bank services in remote locations of the archipelago. Meanwhile, BDO Network Bank, the rural bank subsidiary of BDO, takes care of the underserved and unserved customers, including the remittance beneficiaries who live in far-flung areas.

The number of OFs is estimated to number 12.5 million across more than 150 countries and continents.

As more OFs and their family members are expected to include Christmas shopping as part of their activities, SM Supermalls assured its commitment to serve the public through a safe malling experience for their needs amid the pandemic.

“Everyone was really concerned when the country went on quarantine. And since people still have to go out for their basic needs, SM Supermalls has prioritized customer safety and satisfaction with #SafetyMallingAtSM,” said Gonzales.

“We continue this practice with the utmost care given the increased operation of our malls with the lifting of the lockdowns. We make sure that each and every mall strictly follows safety and sanitation protocols that comply with government regulation to keep our malls as safe spaces,” he added.

New Solane video spreads hope and joy this Christmas

To celebrate the Christmas season this year, Solane created a special Holiday-themed video titled, “Alab ng Pasko,” which aims to spread hope and joy to viewers as it features heartwarming stories of families who have been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The heartfelt video has been uploaded on Solane's official Facebook (https://fb.watch/275QzXUy7J/)  and Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GPj2B1T6y8) pages and has since garnered thousands of views.

As seen in the video, prolonged quarantine periods have been difficult for a lot of Filipinos, especially those who lost their jobs and livelihood. Among them are three fathers – Raymond Santos, a painter; Mario Balmes, a jeepney driver; and Frederick Faller, airport taxi driver – whose touching stories made the rounds on social media. All of them have struggled and have resorted to extreme measures just to make ends meet during the pandemic. Through it all, these fathers showed strength amid adversities by standing by their families and finding ways to survive.

“We have been doing a lot of outreach initiatives to help those badly affected by the pandemic. But for this video, we wanted the families to really feel kindness, hope and joy especially this Christmas, albeit in our own small way. We hope that  those who see the video will realize that it does not take much to make others feel the warmth and spirit of the season. A little kindness will go a long way,” explained Solane marketing manager Valeri Villano.

Together with Villano, Solane employees and brand ambassador Chef Sau del Rosario visited the families and brought  early Noche Buena meals and treats to make their Holiday celebration brighter.

The meals prepared by Chef Sau were personally special to him because they are dishes traditionally prepared by his mother and he wanted to  conveys the same care and affection to those families. Aside from the early Noche Buena, the families received free Solane LPG and grocery items. Solane also surprised them with simple yet festive Christmas decorations in their homes.

Not only have these fathers and their respective stories captured the attention of many Filipino netizens, they also serve as a reminder that despite the hardships they had to face during the pandemic, we can find the warmth and spirit of Christmas if we extend kindness, concern and empathy for one another.

Have fun exploring your best angles with these selfie tips from Bobbie Cosmetics!

Although selfies are somehow seen as an expression of vanity, studies show that snapping a photo or two could potentially boost your self-esteem. Of course, this type of confidence does not mean that validation should come from external influences. But sharing photos on social media and getting positive feedback from your trusted community can be a powerful instrument to reaffirm the self-worth that already exists within you.

Selfies — whether shared or kept private — have been linked to stronger, more tenacious moods. Experts say that taking photos of oneself can help make them feel comfortable in their own skin, which then leads to the improvement of their overall frame of mind.

So, grab your phone, ring light, and selfie stick and have fun exploring your best angles with these selfie tips from Bobbie Cosmetics!

Master the art of tilting

Look up to the camera or slightly turn your phone sideways. Then, think of something that cheers you up to put a genuine smile on your face. This can help capture a flash of happiness that will shine through your photo. You can also take this opportunity to show your contouring flair with the Bobbie Cosmetics Gleam Squad Contour & Strobe (P399) to add a better definition and highlight your best assets.

Practice your ‘smize’

By this time, you have probably heard about the term ‘smize’ — which basically means “to smile with your eyes”. Copping the perfect selfie means nailing it all, from the smile on your face to the powerful expression in your eyes. And with the advent of face masks, communicating with your eyes goes a long way, too! To help you capture your perfect smize, you can use light makeup by applying the Bobbie Cosmetics StylEYES (P75) and get dolled up to give a sophisticated glare. Feeling a little extra? You can also give more life to your stare by putting on the Bobbie Cosmetics Diva Lashes (P100)!

Give it a good lighting

Whether you are shooting outdoors or inside, make sure that there is enough light. This is one of the biggest factors that will determine how one looks in photos. You can do it facing a big window when indoors, or under the shade of a tree when outdoors. To capture a more glowing look, you can add a subtle sheen by using the buildable and easy-to-blend Bobbie Cosmetics Glow Obsession Liquid Illuminator (P299). They say the golden hour gives off the best lighting, too. These are the moments just before sunrise and right after sunset.

Pick a good background

A tree, a white wall, a bathroom mirror, you name it. It doesn’t need to be a full-scale set design, but it helps to have a background that matches your selfie mood.

Wear your favorite makeup

What’s a better way to have a more creative take with your selfie than exploring your best angles with your favorite beauty products? Choose a feature you’d like to highlight and make a statement! The Bobbie Cosmetics Pucker Up Duo Lipstick & Lip Tint Bundle (P165) is a combination of two versatile beauty staples that brightens up any look. Released in three shades — Cherry & Bomb, Love n’ Lilac, and Diva & Glam — this new duo from Bobbie Cosmetics can give the perfect wash of color that can make one glow naturally as they shoot their selfies. Being confident barefaced has its merits, too. Caring for the skin is important to help banish breakouts. This is why many beauty gurus swear by the method of double cleansing. Just before washing your face with a cleanser, removing makeup using the Bobbie Cosmetics Bare With Me All-In-1 Micellar Cleansing Water (P99) can up your beauty regimen. This gentle solution will help remove the build-up of oil, dirt, and cosmetic products residue which can clog pores and cause acne and breakouts.

By double cleansing on a day-to-day basis, people can improve their skin complexion and up their selfie game as they exude the confidence that flows from within.

Looking forward to capturing your best selfies? Share them online and tag @bobbiecosmetics on Instagram!
