McDonald’s Philippines achieved record-breaking sales in 2022, surpassing its pre-pandemic (2019) sales performance

Owned and operated by its Chairman and Owner Dr. George T. Yang and President and CEO Kenneth Yang— the quick service restaurant (QSR) giant attributes its performance not just to strong consumer mobility and post-pandemic behavior but to its continuous commitment to providing value for money, exciting limited-time menu offers, and an elevated omnichannel customer experience.

McDonald’s Philippines’ strong performance in 2022 wouldn’t have been possible if not for the trust and continuous support of our customers all over the country. As we aim to consistently improve how we serve McDonald’s favorites to every Filipino, we are equally committed to providing feel-good experiences to our people [crew and managers] who make it all happen in our stores, and in communities where we operate for many years to come,” said Kenneth Yang, President and CEO of McDonald’s Philippines.

Feeling good, feeling safe

From its first store opening in Morayta, Manila in 1981, McDonald’s Philippines continues to uphold global food safety and quality standards in the preparation and service of its food whether through dine-in, take-out, Drive-Thru, or McDelivery.

This was further strengthened during the pandemic as part of its M Safe program, introduced in 2020.

The company doubledowned on food safety and quality efforts through continuous monitoring, and crew and manager training, which contributed to its thirdparty food safety audit results and customer perception scores on safety and trust.

Since the launch of M Safe, the company’s findings on ‘brand trust’ increased by 5.4% which contributed to increased dine-in guest count, lifting market share for McDonald’s in 2022.

Setting the standard for doing good

McDonald’s takes pride in its global learning and development programs from Crew Training to Restaurant Leadership courses to its Digital Academy. As one of the biggest employers in the country, McDonald’s Philippines believes that everyone has the opportunity to grow and succeed in the company which starts by first having job security. McDonald’s is the first quick-service restaurant in the country to practice a direct hiring policy, providing regular employment to all its crew members. In 2022, McDonald’s Philippines hired more than 17,000 new employees in support of its new store openings—employing working students regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.

To date, the company has close to 60,000 employees in over 700 stores across the Philippines— with over 47,000 employees in Luzon, close to 6,000 employees in Visayas, and 5,000 employees in Mindanao.

Serving meals with kindness

McDonald’s also prioritizes its commitment to the communities where it operates. To serve meals to underserved families without access to food, McDonald’s Philippines launched the Kindness Kitchen, a flagship program of its charity of choice, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

In December 2022, Kindness Kitchen has served over 800,000 meals, a 33% increase from 600,000 meals served in May. The initiative aims to serve 1 million meals by the end of 2023.

By continuously improving the quality of food, providing growth opportunities to its people, and creating a positive impact in communities, McDonald’s exemplifies always being a step ahead in upholding its commitment to world-class excellence.

Yang reiterates, “It is these customers we serve, the people working in our restaurants and communities that we help that inspire and motivate us to be and do better. As many Filipinos continue to face challenges and recover from the pandemic, we want to be a place where they can experience feel-good moments. We want to be a company that Filipinos today and the future can trust.”

AirAsia Philippines expresses its readiness to assist all its guests in having a seamless and convenient airport immigration process

AirAsia Philippines expresses its readiness to assist all its guests in having a seamless and convenient airport immigration process without hassle. The World’s Best Low-Cost Airline reminds its guests of the most effective tips to avoid getting offloaded during international travels.

Be On Time

AirAsia Philippines advised all guests to allot ample time before scheduled departure Ideally, guests should be at the airport 4 hours before the flight for international travel and 3 hours for domestic travel.

Prepare Complete Documents

Guests should make sure to prepare all necessary documents, especially for international trips: a passport, a round-trip itinerary, a visa, if necessary, and other supporting documents such as a certificate of employment, income tax, and a bank certificate to validate the travel intent of the passenger.

Online Check-in via airasia Super App

To avoid the long queue at the check-in counter, guests are advised to check in flight via airasia Super App.

AirAsia Philippines Communications and Public Affairs Country Head Steve Dailisan said, “We understand the sentiments of travelers who are being offloaded for various reasons. We feel their frustrations especially since most of them have certainly saved money and have prepared for their dream vacation this summer. For humanitarian reasons, AirAsia will be assisting guests who will be offloaded through our customer happiness team. However, we are one with the government in making sure that Filipinos would not fall victim to human trafficking and illegal recruitment.”

According to the Bureau of Immigration, in 2022, 32,404 Filipinos were deferred departure, 472 of which have been found to be victims of human trafficking or illegal recruitment. Moreover, 873 of them presented fraudulent documents and at least 10 have been found to be either underaged or minors who attempted to depart to work abroad.

Guests who have queries on flight schedules, rebooking, and other travel-related issues meanwhile are advised to access ‘Ask Bo’, AirAsia’s new customer concierge service which replaces AVA. The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), on the other hand, offers the online payment for the Philippine Travel Tax via online travel tax services system.

To excite more travelers to visit their favorite international destinations this summer, AirAsia is offering a one-way base fare from as low as  PHP 833 to PHP 3,033 for bookings from 20 to 26 March for travels from 20 March to 30 September 2023 to 14 ASEAN destinations which include Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Macao, Guangzhou, Zhenzhen, Bangkok, Singapore, Bali, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuala Lumpur.

vivo launches the newest addition to its V lineup– the vivo V27 Series

vivo, one of the leading smartphone brands in the Philippines, has officially launched the newest addition to its V lineup– the vivo V27 Series. This new flagship smartphone boasts a first-of-its-kind technology in the industry, the Aura Portrait Algorithm, that will elevate users’ mobile photography game with a studio-level experience right in their hands.

This new lineup offers two variants– the vivo V27 5G and vivo V27e. The vivo V27e will be officially available for pre-order in vivo’s E-store from March 22-29, while fans can pre-order the vivo V27 5G from April 10-16.

With the vivo V27 Series dubbed as The Aura Portrait Master, vivo encourages its fans to radiate their best aura anytime and anywhere with their very own pocket studio, the vivo V27 and the vivo V27e.

Capture Studio-Level Photos Effortlessly

As with previous V series devices that offer top of the line camera features, the vivo V27 Series is packed with a new innovation in smartphone imaging technology.  Both variants under the vivo V27 Series carry vivo’s latest breakthrough– the Aura Portrait Algorithm technology. This first-in-the-industry feature is vivo’s solution that covers the three aspects in the light and imaging processing journey. First is the Aura Light, a built-in ring light that serves as an extra light source but with a smoother and more delicate effect compared to regular phone camera flash.

Second aspect in this camera system, particularly in vivo V27 5G variant, is the  50MP OIS Ultra Sensing main camera powered by SONY IMX766V sensor, a first in vivo’s V Series history. This flagship sensor has an ultra-large 1/1.56” sensor size which allows 145 percent more light intake for a stronger picture quality even in low-light surroundings. Meanwhile, its V27e variant has 64MP OIS Ultra Sensing Camera and Super Night View capability to capture HD quality and vivid images.

Lastly, this upgrade includes a perfect synergy between hardware and software with vivo’s full and exclusive line of Portrait Algorithms. All three aspects complete the Aura Portrait Algorithm feature of the vivo V27 Series that intelligently adjusts the lighting according to the environment, perfectly capturing studio quality images for portrait shooting day and night.

Vlogging Made Easier and More Fun

Great adventures are some of the best moments to vlog, until you get home and realize your shots are blurry and shaky. Avoid this mishap with the vivo V27 Series backed with EIS+OIS Dual Ultra Stabilization feature. This imaging system allows users to shoot videos in the most stable way even without extra tools like selfie sticks and gimbals.

vivo also ensured that whether with the back or front lens, users can shoot high-quality videos, thanks to the vivo V27 5G’s 50MP Eye AF Vlogging camera and vivo V27e’s 32MP Vlogging lens.

Moreover, vivo enables its fans to produce more creative videos worth-sharing on social media through the vivo V27 Series’ Microfilm feature. This serves as a one stop solution where users can edit vlogs with just a few clicks, access 26 effect templates for free, use built-in professional standard video enhancement software, and enjoy a hassle-free vlog making experience.

Premium Design without Compromising Comfort

The series sports new colorways that can easily match users' every style and aesthetic. The vivo V27 5G variant exudes sophistication with the Emerald Green colorway boosted with vivo’s signature photochromic 2.0 technology design, now more reactive to light making color-changing process faster than its predecessor.

Meanwhile, vivo V27e is available in eye-catching Lavender Purple colorway created through vivo’s photolithography process to achieve its glowing peacock feathers design and the Glory Black partnered with glittering fluorite AG effect for a delicate and luxurious finish.

On top of vivo V27 Series’ colorways, both variants boast a slim and smooth frame for a comfortable grip. The vivo V27 5G has 7.36mm 3D-Curved Screen, the thinnest curved screen in history of vivo V Series while the vivo V27e has 7.7mm thin flat frame. Now, users don’t need to choose between style and comfort as the vivo V27 Series has both.

Powerful Flagship Performance

Inside the vivo V27 5G’s slim and compact body is a MediaTek D7200 4nm chipset that supports Dual-Mode 5G and Dual 5G Standby to balance performance and power consumption. Along with a powerful processor, the vivo V27 Series offers a bigger update with the help of vivo’s Extended RAM 3.0. With this technology,  vivo V27 5G’s 12GB RAM and vivo V27e’s 8GB RAM can support up to 8GB extension that allows multiple and large-scale apps to smoothly run in the background simultaneously. Both variants are also packed with 256GB ROM so users can store as many files as they want.

vivo V27 Series also takes users' productivity to the next level with its all-day battery which has a doubled life span that can handle up to 1,600 charge cycles. It is also boosted with a 66W FastCharge feature to quickly recharge the phone’s power from 0 to 50 percent in just 19 minutes.

Pricing and Availability

With vivo V27 Series and its  innovative camera features, enjoy the pocket studio experience and bring out your best aura whenever, wherever you are. Both the vivo V27 5G and the vivo V27e are packed with powerful features inside, giving them the ability to keep up with today's demanding lifestyles.

The vivo V27 5G is priced at PHP24,999 while the vivo V27e sells at PHP16,999. Pre-order starts on March 22-29 exclusively in vivo’s E-store for vivo V27e variant where fans can take advantage of up to 3 months installment with 0 percent interest via credit cards. On the other hand, the vivo V27 5G variant is available for pre-order on April 10-16.

Halo-Halo Story: Beat the heat and quench your thirst with 7 different flavors that are perfect for summer

The Philippines is a country that boasts of many colorful and flavorful desserts, but perhaps none is more popular than the halo-halo.

Halo-halo is a dessert that embodies the Filipino culture of mixing and blending different ingredients. It is said that the dessert originated during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines when the Japanese soldiers would mix leftover sweetened beans, fruits, and milk with ice to make a refreshing dessert. The Filipinos then took this idea and made it their own by adding more ingredients like ube (purple yam), leche flan, and pinipig (crispy rice flakes).
Duncan Yu, Halo Halo Story Owner

One of the reasons why Filipinos love halo-halo is that it is a versatile dessert. You can mix and match different ingredients to suit your preference. Some people prefer their halo-halo with more fruits, while others like it with more beans and jellies. Some like it with a lot of milk, while others prefer it with just a little. The possibilities are endless, and that is what makes halo-halo so special. Another reason why Filipinos love halo-halo is that it is a dessert that brings people together. In a country where the weather can be scorching hot, halo-halo is the perfect dessert to share with friends and family. It is a dessert that is best enjoyed with others, and it is not uncommon to see groups of people sharing a big bowl of halo-halo.

This Filipino fascination with halo-halo is what inspired Duncan Yu to begin his own “Halo-Halo Story”

“Halo-Halo Story” is a dessert spot that offers a unique halo-halo experience. But instead of just serving your usual traditional halo-halo, they offer unique flavors like Buko Pie, Four Cheese, and Maja Blanca. Each flavor is inspired by Yu's personal childhood favorites, and the process of creating each flavor is like a readymade recipe.

What sets Halo-Halo Story apart from other halo-halo joints is their commitment to exploring new flavors. Yu believes that new ideas come from the past, and he is not afraid to experiment with new ingredients to create unique and delicious halo-halo flavors. For example, the Buko Pie flavor was inspired by the buko pie chains in Tagaytay, which are just a few meters away from each other and yet still doing well. The Four Cheese flavor was inspired by the common flavor of pizzas and pastas, and the challenge was to figure out which four cheeses would work together. The Maja Blanca flavor was inspired by Duncan's childhood memories of an ambulant vendor who would always offer different kakanin, and he would always choose Maja Blanca.

This commitment to innovation is what makes Halo-Halo Story a must-try for anyone who loves this cold treat.

Yu's vision for Halo-Halo Story goes beyond just serving delicious desserts. He wants to create a space where people can come together and share their stories. He believes that in today's world, where social media has made it easy to connect with people online, we have lost the art of face-to-face communication. Halo-Halo Story also wants to create a welcoming environment where customers can come and relax, catch up with friends, and share their stories.

Halo-Halo Story recently opened their first drive-thru branch along Quezon Avenue near Banawe St., and they have upcoming stores at SM Sta. Mesa (Food Hall) and SM Southmall (SM Food Court). With their unique flavors and commitment to creating a space for people to connect over desserts, Halo-Halo Story is sure to continue delighting customers for years to come.
