Watsons is strengthening its sustainability commitment by increasing the number of Sustainable Choices products to 8,000

As Earth Day is approaching, Watsons, the flagship health and beauty brand of A.S. Watson Group, is strengthening its sustainability commitment by increasing the number of Sustainable Choices products to 8,000 and pledging to offset over 2,000 tons of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions, as part of its mission to provide more sustainable options for everyone, everywhere.

Malina Ngai, CEO of A.S. Watson (Asia & Europe) says, “Fighting against climate change is pressing priority for all of us today. As a leading health and beauty retailer, together with our customers, we are a massive force for good and play a significant role in making an impactful change to our planet. Watsons is now accelerating its efforts in tackling environmental challenges and investing in nature-based solutions and carbon compensation projects.”

Making Sustainable Choices Easy

Sustainable Choices is a scheme which empowers customers to make behavioural changes towards a sustainable lifestyle. Products that qualify as Sustainable Choices must meet specific criteria, such as being made with better ingredients or materials, using better packaging, offering refill packs, featuring reusable or replaceable components promoting less waste. Making it easier for customers to find these products which are good for the environment, Watsons is now offering over 8,000 Sustainable Choices products globally; and in the Philippines there are over 1500 products available ranging from skincare to shampoo, both in stores and online.

Teaming up with ClimatePartner, Watsons will launch a carbon compensation project in July that will offset carbon emissions from seven Sustainable Choices products. The carbon emissions of these product have already been measured by calculating the emissions from cradle-to-customer plus end-of-life, and then the remaining emissions will be offset through a nature-based project independently verified for its social and environmental impacts by TÜV Austria, an internationally recognised specialist in environmental auditing.

The seven Sustainable Choices products are:

Naturals by Watsons Coffee Exfoliating Soap

Naturals by Watsons Aloe Vera Shampoo

      Watsons Antibacterial Cleansing Wipes

      Watsons Bamboo Toothbrush

      Watsons Fruity Mask

      Watsons Bamboo Paper

      Imew 04 Centalla Asiatica Booster

Customers will be able to identify the carbon compensated products by the ClimatePartner Certified Labels with a QR code to know more about the carbon compensation project supported.

Going Beyond our Climate Change Commitments

As part of the carbon compensation project to fight climate change, Watsons is supporting ClimatePartner’s Forest Protection initiatives in Rimba Raya, Indonesia. Through reforestation in degraded areas, the forest is restored, carbon stocks are increased, and the overall health of ecosystem is promoted. In addition, the natural habitat of endangered Bornean orangutans is preserved as the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve is home to a wide variety of animal and plant species.

This carbon compensation project is A.S. Watson’s sustainability commitment on top of its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction which has already been vetted and validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

A.S. Watson’s GHG emission reduction targets include:

Reducing Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50.4% by 2030 from a 2018 base year

Reducing Scope 3 GHG Emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream transportation and distribution, and use of sold products by 58% per Hong Kong dollar value added by 2030 from a 2018 base year

Pledging that 33% of its suppliers by emissions covering purchased goods and services, upstream transportation and distribution will have science-based targets (SBTs) by 2027

Ngai concludes, “Watsons understands that its responsibility goes beyond being a health and beauty retailer. We’re dedicated to setting an example in fighting against climate change.”

“Everyone plays a crucial role in making a meaningful difference, and together we can make a big impact. By embracing our social purpose of ‘Look Good. Do Good. Feel Great.’, Watsons will continue to inspire our customers to join us in our journey towards a greener, more sustainable future.”

TCL Electronics was named the Top 2 TV Brand

TCL Electronics, a leading brand in consumer electronics and TV manufacturing brand was named the Top 2 TV Brand, Top 1 Android TV, and Top 1 98-inch TV brand according to   OMDIA’s Global TV sets Report2022. TCL is continuously innovating and investing in research and development and making Mini LED TVs more affordable and accessible to consumers.

Building on its success, TCL is now focused on making Mini LED TVs more affordable and accessible to consumers by continuing to innovate and invest in research and development.

Mini LED is a next-generation screen that offers better contrast, color, and brightness than traditional LCD screens. TCL was the first consumer electronics brand to launch a TV with the Mini LED screen.

According to the latest data, TCL’s TV business has seen a 75.7% growth in 65+ inch sales year-on-year, accumulating in the brand and rising up the ranks as it continues to make its technology available to more customers. The TV industry witnessed a decline in 2022, with global TV shipments down by 4.8% year-on-year, and global revenue down by 13.2%, leading to fierce competition among the industry’s key players.

TCL carved out its unique advantage by being the first brand to adopt a value-led Mini LED proposition. This successful approach resulted in TCL’s TV business recording a total of 23.8 million shipments in 2022, going against the global downward trend.

The World’s First Truly Accessible Mini LED TV

Realizing the potential of Mini LED technology, in 2019, TCL launched the world’s first Mini LED TV to achieve mass production. TCL’s consumers responded to the advantages of Mini LED technology–thanks to the increase in local dimming zones, producing greater brightness levels than ever before, for better contrast, color, and clarity, and overall enhanced picture quality. Through its strong brand influence and global channel advantages, TCL’s proportion of sales continues to increase with shipments of its Mini LED TVs rising by an impressive 26.8% in 2022.

Testament to the popularity of TCL’s advancements in Mini LED technology, the brand has received numerous industry accolades. Two of TCL’s XL Collection Mini LED TVs, the TCL 75C935 and TCL 75C835, won CES 2023 Innovation Awards for their innovative ergonomic design and advanced Mini LED display technology, while the TCL 65C835, won the "PREMIUM MINI LED TV 2022-2023" EISA award from the European Imaging and Sound Association for its best-in-class performance.

TCL Set to Launch Brilliant and Game-Changing TV Series for a Variety of User Scenarios

TCL Electronics is set to launch a new series of smart TVs designed to cater to a variety of user scenarios. This new series promises to deliver exceptional picture quality, an immersive gaming experience, and big-screen viewing pleasure. With cutting-edge technology and outstanding color expression, these TVs will outperform competitors in the same price range. The gaming TV will offer hardware and software configurations comparable to a PC for a super smooth gaming experience. Additionally, with support for Mini LED, QLED, and AiPQ Processor 5 Ai algorithm, this new series of smart TVs will deliver a full range of picture quality performance. TCL's new series of smart TVs promise to provide exceptional audio-visual quality and software function, making it an ideal choice for avid gamers and movie enthusiasts alike. With TCL’s new series, you can "C the Brilliance" in every scene, immersing yourself in a world of stunning visuals and lifelike colors.

TCL’s Mini LED Milestones – Making a Play for Category Ownership

As a relatively new display technology, the greatest value that Mini LED brings to users lies in its ability to pack spectacular image quality in an ultra-thin screen. Achieving such an ultra-thin screen is one of the greatest challenges for manufacturers, as it leaves no gap between the light guide plate (LGP) and the Mini LED, resulting in Zero Optical Distance (referred to as OD 0). To combat this, TCL established it's very own Mini LED & Optical Technology Development Department in 2020, with the sole objective of overcoming this challenge by producing the highest number of backlight LED zones in the industry. After nearly a year of in-depth research, TCL launched the world's first TCL OD Zero Mini LED TV in 2021, with a thickness of just 9.9mm and 1920 dimming zones – offering exceptional picture quality to OLED offerings.

Creating Mini LED Products That Users Can Afford

As a brand, TCL is on a mission to make great technology accessible to everyone. Once TCL’s leading R&D team discovered how to make quality Mini LED screens, they set about finding practical ways to produce these at scale.

The traditionally high cost of Mini LED products is in part due to the increased number of LEDs required. TCL’s research team devised a process to significantly reduce the cost of LED itself, without impacting the uniformity of the overall display. Through the careful design and selection of LEDs, printed circuit boards, and process controls, TCL successfully reduced production costs by more than 70%.

Acer launches Powerful Aspire Vero Laptop and Acer Vero Projector

Acer today announced the latest offerings in its eco-friendly Vero range of products, including the Acer Aspire Vero 15 (AV15-53P) laptop and the Acer Vero PL3510ATV laser projector, both of which are designed to equip businesses and consumers with high-performing, power-saving technology while providing more options to reduce their carbon footprint.

The Aspire Vero 15 laptop is powered by 13th Gen Intel® Core processors with Intel® Iris® Xe graphics, engineered to let the Intel® Evo laptop do even more at once. The multi-awarded Aspire Vero line reduces CO2emissions through the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics in its chassis without sacrificing durability. It also features a 15-inch FHD IPS display, Acer VeroSense™ for battery management, and a 1440p QHD webcam that comes with Acer PurifiedView and Acer PurifiedVoice collaboration technology.

Acer also launched the Acer Vero PL3510ATV projector, built with a Full HD resolution, 4,800 ANSI lumens diode, and a 30,000-hour lamp life[4] for long-lasting brightness. The laser projector’s power-saving design also saves up to 48% more energy compared with lamp-based projectors[2], ultimately reducing its total cost of ownership and carbon footprint through an extended product lifespan. In line with Acer’s Earthion platform, the latest Vero products integrate PCR plastic on their chassis and utilize recyclable packaging.

Acer Aspire Vero 15 Laptop

The Aspire Vero 15 (AV15-53P) combines an eco-conscious design and a range of performance features, catering to the needs of users who require a powerful and attractive-looking laptop. It sports a 15.6-inch Full HD Display[4], 16:9 aspect ratio, and 100% sRGB[4] to fulfill users’ task-related and entertainment needs within a larger screen space. Powered by up to 13th Gen Intel Core i7 processors with Intel Iris Xe graphics, the Windows 11 laptop helps users maximize productivity whether they are working, creating, or playing and delivers on the requirements of an Intel Evo laptop to achieve key experience targets such as real-world, fast-charging battery life, responsiveness, instant wake, and intelligent collaboration.

The Aspire Vero 15 also comes with a 1440p QHD camera which includes Acer PurifiedView and PurifiedVoice with AI Noise Reduction technology for enhanced conference calls. For reliable and seamless connectivity, the laptop comes with Wi-Fi 6E and presents a generous selection of ports including two Thunderbolt 4/USB Type-C, two USB3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1, DC in, and an audio jack port keeping users connected and productive wherever they may be. It is also equipped with up to 16 GB of on board LPDDR5 memory and two M.2 SSDs that support up to 1 TB of storage.

Eco-Conscious Design

In Acer’s quest to create a continuous positive impact on the environment, the Aspire Vero 15 was thoughtfully designed to incorporate more recycled materials and further minimize waste by increasing the device’s lifespan. Compared to the previous generation of eco-friendly laptops, the Aspire Vero 15 increased the percentage of PCR plastic used in the chassis from 30% to 40% and was successfully made with 30% fewer CO2 emissions[1] in the production of the chassis material, while ensuring it could withstand everyday wear and tear. Its eye-catching chassis is paint-free and possesses less volatile organic compounds, while the keycaps and adapter casing use 50% PCR materials. Its smooth OceanGlass™ trackpad also incorporates recycled ocean-bound plastic.

With the intent to further extend the machine’s lifespan, the laptop uses standardized screws to simplify repairs and recycling at the product’s end-of-life. The laptop is shipped in multi-purpose recyclable packaging which is made from 100% recycled paper and up to 90% recycled cardboard, and can be reused as an ergonomic laptop stand. The integrated VeroSense management apps let users take control of the battery’s power consumption and lifespan with four performance modes to choose from.

Acer Vero PL3510ATV Smart Projector

The Acer Vero PL3510ATV projector combines advanced laser-light projection and high energy efficiency in a portable device. Equipped with Full HD resolution, a dynamic 4,800 ANSI lumens laser diode, and a contrast ratio of 50,000:1, it projects brilliant, crystal-clear images from long distances, even in bright indoor settings. Superior laser phosphor illumination technology allows it to present rich, accurate colors while providing eight times less lighting decay and consuming 48% less power as compared to traditional lamp-based projectors[2]. The mercury-free projector also incorporates 50% PCR plastic in the chassis to reduce harm to the environment. Combined with a 30,000-hour lifespan, these features help save on the total cost of ownership and reduce waste.

To maximize its versatility whether for work or home viewing, the Acer Vero PL3510ATV projector supports 2D keystone, and 4 corner correction technology which automatically adjusts projection to any viewing surface to provide distorted-free display, while its lens shift feature lets you navigate the lens without having to move the device at all. The Acer Vero PL3510ATV projector also supports 24/7 continuous projection, providing users with reliable and high-quality performance even for prolonged periods, and is IP5X rated to keep its components protected in any environment. The Acer Vero PL3510ATV not only features a 10W built-in speaker that delivers cinematic sounds and eliminates the need for external speakers, but it also supports a Audio Return function for enhanced audio quality. This allows users to link their favorite speakers to the projector, providing an immersive sound experience that complements the stunning visual display. Thanks to the included dongle that supports Android TV[3], the Acer Vero PL3510ATV boasts Chromecast compatibility for seamless video streaming and screen mirroring from compatible apps on source.

Coca-Cola Philippines partners with Plastic Bank Philippines

Coca-Cola Philippines continues to strengthen its partnerships with like-minded organizations to help address the issue of plastic waste in the country. As part of its efforts, the company has expanded the Ecosystem Impact Program in partnership with Plastic Bank Philippines, a social enterprise that builds collection and recycling ecosystems in communities to prevent ocean-bound plastic waste.

Since the program began operations in Cavite in 2021, it has now expanded to Laguna, with nine new partner shops on board, adding to a total of 15 recyclable wastes collection branches within Coca-Cola Philippines and Plastic Bank's program areas. Furthermore, over 160 new waste collection members have joined the Plastic Bank ecosystem, bringing the total number of members to 600. These new additions to the ecosystem have helped scale the collection of the Program.

Nine new partner shops have been enrolled to the Program this year, with plans to onboard more and further expand operations in Laguna in the coming months.

"Together with our partner, Plastic Bank Philippines, we are delighted to see the expansion of the Plastic Bank Ecosystem in Laguna. At Coca-Cola, we recognize our responsibility in helping address the global plastic waste problem, and we remain committed to growing our collection and recycling efforts across the nation, in collaboration with partners and communities," said Atty. Cashmer Dirampaten, Director for Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability of Coca-Cola Franchise East Region.

Through the Coca-Cola Philippines and Plastic Bank Ecosystem Impact Program, partner branches, such as junk shops, are given access to tools and equipment for efficient waste collection, such as sacks, branch uniforms, weighing scales, and shop signages. In addition, members are also provided with training sessions on financial and business literacy, operations management, and health and sanitation. The Program also teaches them how to use the Plastic Bank app, which assists shop owners in tracking collections and sharing their waste collection impact online and at the same time provides ease of access to receive useful information and other benefits from the Program.

Roving waste collection members gather recyclable plastic from households, businesses, and other waste generating sources in the communities and bring the material to partner collection branches. They are the important link or the intermediaries between waste generators and recycling facilities playing a crucial role in the country’s waste management system by helping increase the recycling rate and reducing landfill waste.

The Coca-Cola Philippines and Plastic Bank Ecosystem Impact Program works directly with individuals in the informal waste sector and MSMEs like junk shops to create collection and recycling ecosystems in communities that help prevent plastic waste from going into the ocean. The program also gives the members access to training and equipment for systemized waste collection.

The Program’s waste collection members bring the plastic waste to partner collection branches and receive an above-market rate for collected plastic, which is convertible into cash or digital tokens that can be used for health, work and life insurance, digital connectivity, and social and fintech services.

Gidget Velez, Chief Supply and Countries Officer of Plastic Bank, expressed gratitude for the continuously growing 3-year relationship with Coca-Cola Philippines. “Plastic pollution is a major crisis that affects all life on Earth. It requires the collective effort of all humanity to address this issue. We thank Coca-Cola Philippines for being part of our mission to stop ocean plastic and alleviate poverty for three years. Now that we opened a new ecosystem in Laguna, our journey together will create an even bigger impact for our planet and our society.”

The Coca-Cola Philippines and Plastic Bank Ecosystem Impact Program intends to empower and equip local junk shops to be able to independently sustain their waste collection ecosystems moving forward, through livelihood opportunities, social and financial benefits, and acceleration of collection capacity and processes. With this growing partnership with Plastic Bank, Coca-Cola Philippines remains committed to its World Without Waste vision and to helping create a sustainable packaging future for Filipinos.

It’s a celebration of star-studded proportions with the launch of Warner Music Philippines’ We Play Here!

As part of the label’s core mission to be at the forefront of championing Filipino music, Warner Music Philippines is celebrating its 30th anniversary in the country with a series of live performances and events to bring fans as well as local and international artists even closer together. To jumpstart the celebrations, six of the country’s most beloved musical acts are coming together for a one-of-a-kind, high-energy event.

SB19’s Ken—performing under his mononym FELIP—leads the lineup after his stellar solo debut earlier this year. After just three months since the release of his debut EP, COM·PLEX has over 3 million total streams on Spotify, with three of his singles charting on the platform’s Viral 50 Philippines playlist. He also received rave reviews for his dark and edgy brand of hip hop, with publications such as HipHopDX Asia saying that, “FELIP allows himself to go to the farthest, most experimental, and even most unthinkable places and tap into his own instincts to make music and art with the utmost freedom.”

The rising Davao-based hip hop group PLAYERTWO are expected to bring their a-game to the Samsung Hall stage. Composed of vocalists-producers Ivo Impreso, Luke April, Wave P, and visual directors Puhken and Ven Villariza, they soared to the top of the Spotify charts, with their breakout single “THAT’S MY BABY” garnering over 9 million streams. Their latest release, “TIKTIKTOKIN” has become a fan favorite as the quintet make their way all over the Philippines on their THAT’S MY BABY tour.

Rounding out the hip hop artists on the lineup is R&B singer and rapper JRLDM. A multi-awarded and internationally recognized performer, he is best known for his emotional and heartfelt flows that resonate with audiences. He, alongside labelmate Arkho of Midnasty, joined the inaugural edition of The Regionals: Philippines, the Philippine leg of the first ever Pan-Asia rap cypher series.

Rising pop band Dilaw will also be performing during the event. The band went viral on social media for their breakout song, “Uhaw (Tayong Lahat),” with over 22 million Spotify streams and over 1 million videos on TikTok. Just recently, the track clinched the top spot of Spotify’s Top Songs Philippines chart. They’re ready to bring their brand of unconventional lyricism and catchy tunes to the Samsung Hall stage.

Beloved pop rock band Lola Amour is one of the biggest acts in the music industry—playing in some of the biggest malls, schools, and festivals in the country. Their status as a fan favorite in the country definitely shows, especially with multiple Awit Award nominations to their name. As one of the most exciting bands in the scene today, they’ve played in venues all over the country, from malls, and even music festivals. Get ready to sing along to some of their biggest hits like “Fallen,” “Pwede Ba,” or “Madali.”

Last but definitely not the least are the soul and R&B duo Leanne & Naara, who are set to complete the event’s star-studded lineup. The pair is considered as one of the most decorated contemporary acts today, especially after they dominated the Awit Awards and snagged the highly-coveted Song of the Year and Album of the Year awards. Their silky smooth vocals are sure to sweep audiences off their feet.

“Our We Play Here series showcases and celebrates everything that is so exciting about where this generation of Filipino artists is at right now,” shares Sarah Ismail, Managing Director of Warner Music Philippines. “The acts are bigger, better, and more diverse than ever before, and our whole team is so proud of the role that Warner Music Philippines is playing in the global rise of OPM.

Leica optics, to build the perfect Summicron Lens of Leica in mobile imaging

The strategic cooperation between Xiaomi and Leica in the global imaging field has taken another crucial step: By further upgrading the Summicron lens for mobile imaging in the optical system, offering "a coming-of-age ceremony in mobile imaging".

Inherited from the optical concept of the Leica M series, the Leica optical system of Xiaomi 13 Ultra has the characteristics of compact size, large aperture, high imaging performance, reliability, and durability. The lens adopts an ultra-high-order polynomial design, allowing the precision of design to reach a nanometer level, nearing the optical limit. Meanwhile, a multi-layer coating greatly reduces glare and ghosting, presenting stable performance in extremely cold and extremely hot environments.

Xiaomi 13 Ultra is equipped with a quad camera system with Leica optical lens covering focal lengths ranging from 12mm (ultra-wide angle), 23mm (wide-angle), 75mm (telephoto), to the new 120mm (super-telephoto), as well as the extra 46mm and 240mm lengths through the In-Sensor-Zoom. Adding on the full degree of focal length flexibility, the smartphone's professional camera setting offers variable aperture. Three of Xiaomi 13 Ultra's cameras feature an aperture wider than ƒ/2.0, which brings in lighter and a soft, shallow depth of field, and allows for shorter shutter times, thus quicker capturing of natural and unmissable moments. Flaunting an ultra-large 1-inch IMX989 sensor and a new physical two-stop aperture switching between ƒ/1.9 and ƒ/4.0, the main camera offers content creators more freedom in customizing the exposures based on different scenarios.

Inspired by the "hyperfocal distance" shooting method commonly used by street photographers, Xiaomi 13 Ultra also brings a new Fast Shot mode that allows taking focus-free snapshots by setting the focus point manually, and later starting and capturing the moment in just 0.8s.
