UNIQLO partnered with Philippine non-government organization CORA (Communities Organized for Resource Allocation) to host a coastal clean-up event along the shores of Manila Bay on July 19. Over a hundred customers, volunteers, UNIQLO staff, and media guests joined the cause to help realize a cleaner and healthier coastal ecosystem. "By partnering with CORA, a champion for sustainable development, we aim to make a lasting impact on the environment and inspire others to take action. We believe in the collective power of clothing to transform lives, communities, and create a cleaner, healthier coastal ecosystem for all."

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) is one of the most popular mobile games in the Philippines, especially with local esports teams taking home championships from tournaments. It’s a strategy MOBA where two teams of five players battle with the goal of destroying the other’s base. Each player will choose from a roster of unique heroes depending on the role assigned to them. This is the perfect game if you’re into hero-based gameplay that encourages you to think strategically, as well as grind to get to the top of the ranks.

Infinix NOTE 30 also has a partnership with MLBB and the MLBB Professional League (MPL). So, even pro players could attest to the phone’s ultra-fast performance.

Call of Duty: Mobile

If you’re into high-intensity shooter games, Call of Duty: Mobile (CODM) lets you play iconic characters as you battle in a multiplayer battle royale. The goal is to gather up the best weapons and supplies, and to stay alive until you’re the last player standing in the map. CODM also has a competitive rank system that all players can participate in.

Honkai: Star Rail

Honkai: Star Rail is the latest title from HoYoverse, the developer behind the highly popular game Genshin Impact. But this isn’t a fully open world and slasher game as players engage in turn-based combat, which isn’t intimidating for newer players. If you’re an avid Genshin player, then you’ll also love Star Rail’s cast of characters, who all have unique skills and designs. The game is only a few months old, so there’s still time for you to catch up on the main story and meet all the new characters that will be added in future updates.

Ragnarok M: Eternal Love

Ragnarok M: Eternal Love is a new version of Ragnarok, or the MMORPG that many gamers spent many hours on as kids. You can battle cute and terrifying monsters, interact with friends and join guilds, and choose a class that suits your playstyle.

League of Legends: Wild Rift

Wild Rift is essentially the mobile version of League of Legends, which features the same MOBA mechanics and many of its iconic characters. The game pits two teams of five against each other, who have to protect their lanes and Nexus to win matches. It’s a League newbie-friendly game as it features detailed tutorials and makes it easier for players to understand rune and item usage.

Cebu Pacific Among the Most Powerful and Valuable Filipino Brands in 2023

Cebu Pacific, the Philippines’ leading carrier, ranks third among the strongest brands in the Philippines for 2023, and one of the country’s most valuable brands overall, according to a study by a London-based brand valuation consultancy firm.

CEB received a Brand Strength Index score of 81.0, corresponding to a rating of AAA-, according to Brand Finance’s 2023 report on the most valuable and strongest Filipino brands. CEB also placed 20th among the Philippines’ most valuable brands for this year --- the first time the airline made it in the list --- with a brand value worth US$194 million.

“We are humbled and honored to be named among the strongest and most valuable brands in the Philippines. This affirms our commitment to making air travel more affordable and accessible for every kind of Juan,” said Candice Iyog, CEB Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer.

Brand Finance, the world’s leading brand valuation consultancy firm, published the annual list of the most valuable and strongest brands following a survey of over 100,000 respondents worldwide to assess their perception of more than 4,000 brands.

The survey was complemented with an analysis of the companies’ investments in marketing and research and development, as well as ratings by review sites, social media engagement, customer churn, market share, among others.

According to Brand Finance’s report, the Philippines’ strongest brands are determined based on a balanced scorecard that evaluates the marketing investment, shareholder equity, and business performance of each company.

Brand value, on the other hand, relates to the brand’s “present value of earnings specifically related to brand reputation,” it added.

“We are also grateful for the trust and confidence of our passengers. In this dynamic and challenging industry, this distinction will further motivate Cebu Pacific to constantly improve our services and ensure the best travel experience for our passengers, along with our commitment to provide safe, reliable, and affordable air transport for every Juan,” Iyog said.

With its signature seat sales and year-round low fares, CEB remains as the airline of choice for many Filipinos, maintaining a market share of 52% for July 2023. Since 1996, the airline has flown over 200 million passengers, with more than 4.8 million passengers serviced in the first quarter of 2023 alone.

CEB also offers the widest domestic network among Philippine carriers, currently flying to 35 local and 23 international destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

USAID and Nestlé Philippines Collaborate to Empower Barangay Government Units in Improving Solid Waste Management

The U.S. Agency for Development (USAID), in partnership with Nestlé Philippines, strengthened the capacity of barangay government units on how to enhance their solid waste management (SWM) systems and be resilient to climate change. A two-day training on formulating barangay SWM Action Plans was held at Nestlé’s headquarters for five pilot barangays in Parañaque City and one of each of Nestlé’s host cities in Tanauan and Lipa, Batangas. Together with USAID, the training was co-facilitated by the Paranaque City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and USAID’s Clean Cities, Blue Ocean grantee, Pure Oceans.

“Keeping our oceans free of plastic is essential for maintaining the natural beauty of the Philippines, helping to ensure sustainable fisheries and protect the livelihoods of millions of Filipinos, while also reducing the impacts of climate change,” said USAID, Philippines Environment Office Director, Ryder Rogers. “At USAID, we are pleased to work with NestléPhilippines in partnership with barangay governments and local communities to help address and mitigate the impacts of ocean plastic pollution.”

Gerry PamilozaChief, Solid Waste Management Section EMB NCRJonas Lazo Enmom, Supervisor EMB NCR; and Olaf Miguel “Miggo”Bautista, Sustainability Manager, Nestlé Philippines

In January 2022, USAID and Nestlé Philippines signed a memorandum of understanding to work together in enabling local government units and community leaders in the Philippines to educate communities on the link between climate change and solid waste management. Through USAID’s Clean Cities, Blue Ocean program and Nestlé’s Climate Change and Solid Waste Management initiatives, the goal is to increase communities’ access to education on the Ecological Solid Waste Management of 2000 (Republic Act No. 9003) and share practical tips on SWM.

“Nestlé Philippines is committed to tackling urgent issues of plastic waste and climate change through our groundbreaking and large-scale environmental initiatives,” said Jose Uy III, Nestlé Philippines’ SVP and Head of Corporate Affairs. “Through our partnership with USAID, we are able to help empower community leaders at the local level to progress toward a waste-free future.”

Ian Posadas, Assistant Barangay Secretary and Focal Person of the SWM Committee of Barangay VitalezParañaque City, was one of the participants and he shared: “The 2-day training workshop is a big help for us. As the smallest barangay [in Paranque City], we need to focus on the 3Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle – and the management of our waste. This plan will be like our lighthouse, or basis, for the next few years and to see if we are accomplishing the plans we have developed during today’s workshop.

The plans drafted are for 2024-2026 but for Barangay Captain Lope Lina of Barangay Bagong Pook, Lipa City in Batangas, they plan to start early. “I decided that by August, we will start drafting an ordinance strictly implementing segregation so that the support of Nestlé and its partners to us will not be wasted.”

USAID launched the Clean Cities, Blue Ocean program in August 2019 as the agency’s flagship program to respond to the ocean plastics pollution crisis. The five-year (2019-2024), $53 million program works at the global level and in specific, rapidly urbanizing focal countries to address ocean plastics directly at their source.

By strengthening waste management systems and building circular economies, city by city, the program builds sustainable solutions that reduce ocean plastics while empowering vulnerable populations and mitigating pollution that affects human health and our climate.
