Do More With Less at home with Electrolux Appliances

Electrolux, a global leader in home appliances, launched its Do More With Less campaign at Abenson Global City last April 22 to empower moms to be more creative and resourceful at home.
The event was hosted by Issa Litton and attended by Electrolux Ambassadors Cheska Kramer, Chef Rosebud Benitez and Chef Bruce Lim.

The brand ambassadors shared do-it-yourself home products you can easily make using Electrolux home appliances.

"Filipino Moms are inventive. Leave it to them to find a way to recycle something that seems unusable,” said Andrea Pionilla,  Marketing Manager of Electrolux Philippines. “Electrolux’s newest campaign wants to show moms how easy it is to do more with less when they have the right home appliances to help them out.”

“I am thrilled to be part of this meaningful campaign. As a practical dad, I’ve always been a believer that with the right tools, you can always do more with less,” said Doug Kramer. “I love how Electrolux appliances help us accomplish more things at home so Cheska and I can spend more time with the kids and less time managing the household.”

Do More With Less at home

According to the Philippine Institute for Developmental Studies, Metro Manila produces 5,600 tons of trash per day and 75% of this comes from households. The same research also showed that half of the daily household waste comprises food scraps and leftovers. A study conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation found that one of the reasons behind food wastage among developing countries is wasteful consumption habits.

Electrolux invites you to share your own lifehacks at home. Join the Reduce Food Waste Challenge on Facebook. Share your tips on how to transform used items into something useful again and get a chance to win exciting prizes from Electrolux. Like The Electrolux Little White Book on Facebook to know more about the contest.

This is my Electrolux tip to keep the food fresh longer when storing in the ref.

With the help of Electrolux appliance you can do more with less by keeping your food fresh longer and eliminating the need to throw away uneaten or spoiled vegetables or fruits.

1.     Some foods create ethylene gas that cause other nearby fruits and vegetables to ripen and spoil faster than normal. Things that should NOT go in the refrigerator include avocados, apricots, bananas, oranges, kiwi fruit, melons, nectarines, pears, peaches, plums, pineapple and tomatoes. Don't put food in the refrigerator that doesn’t require to be refrigerated.

2.    Always keep your vegetable bins clean,  before adding new fruits and vegetables, make sure you wipe out the plastic bins with a sponge. Keeping your vegetable bins clean will prevent bacteria and mold growth.

3.    Make sure foods are well wrapped or covered. Food that is exposed to the inside air of the refrigerator will spoil more quickly than if it were well covered. Store food in a tightly sealed container like a ziploc seal or cover with wrap or foil before putting in food in the refrigerator.

4.    To ensure that your food lasts as long as possible, keep your fridge between 37°F and 40°F, and your freezer between 0°F and 2°F. Buy an inexpensive thermometer to keep inside so that you can check the temperature regularly.

5.    Make sure that the items you buy are as fresh as possible. Local, in-season produce will always get to the grocery store faster than something shipped from overseas. Buying local means your food is as fresh as possible and will last longer, which also means less waste!

We spend a lot of money on our groceries and ensuring that they stay fresh long enough for us to enjoy them is a great way to make sure we aren’t wasting food.

ROUND 1: Clara Ole holds "Game Night" theme Potluck Foodfest

Are you ready to rumble this Sunday for the biggest Boxing Fight in History between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and our very own Manny Pacquiao?

For the past several years, the matches of Manny Pacquiao have become unofficial national holidays. The streets are empty, the crime rate is almost zero and Filipinos are one in cheering for the People’s Champion.

So what's the next worse thing about missing the Pac-May fight?

Watching it alone.

Its no fun to watch this historic boxing match all by your lonesome, so why not invite your family or few friends over to share in the excitement.

And if you're worried about the preparations, Clara Ole has got you covered with a lot of products that will make planning and cooking the perfect dish a lot easier.

Last week, Clara Ole’s kicks of its First Potluck Foodfest with a “Game Night” themed party hosted by blogger Annalyn Jusay and her friends last Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the Lanai area of the Amvel Condominium in Paranaque City.

The event showcased several dishes, using Clara Ole’s various products, which you can easily prepare if you plan to host a Pacquiao viewing party at your home this Sunday.

For starters, Annalyn prepared “Pac-Balls,” (pork meatballs) and “Mayweather lollies,” (chicken lollipops) which can be dipped in either Clara Ole Guava Jelly or Strawberry Jam to give these appetizers an exchange of salty-sweet balance.

For those who prefer a healthier option, blogger Kenny Ngo, brought her specially made “Las Vegas Salad,”-- mixed greens and macaroni topped generously with Clara Ole’s Thousand Island or creamy ranch dressing.

To keep your energy levels up during those intense moments, Annalyn and her officemate Richard Saldana came up with two pasta suggestions.

Annalyn showcased her specialty which she dubbed the Kung Pao Counterpunch, spicy shrimp pasta made tastier and easier to prepare with

Richard meanwhile made Southpaw Pasta in honor of his favorite boxer using Clara Ole’s Three Cheese pasta sauce.

Finally for desserts, Annalyn friends contributed two sweet treats: Arpee Lazaro’s Pound for Pound pudding topped in Clara Ole strawberry jam or Chocolate Syrup, while Gene Yao prepared a colorful Fruit Kebab drizzled in Clara Ole’s Blueberry, Tutti Fruity or Strawberry syrup.

Celebrity host Amy Perez made a surprise appearance to share some #diskartips while Chef Kat Laxamana taught guests on how to do simple plating.

“Game night” is the first of Clara Ole’s Potluck Foodfest, a series of eight themed potluck mini parties at condo residences. Clara Ole will be going around different condos of different personalities, who will then invite their neighbors, family, and friends to share their own signature dish using Clara Ole. Aside from recipes, they will get to share time and space-saving tips, hacks and helpful information to make fast-paced living a little bit easier.

More than just pasta sauces, the Potluck Foodfest will showcase other delicious and healthy dishes made with Clara Ole products such as dips n’ dressings, vinaigrettes, and marinades.

Relive the music of The British Invasion at Resorts World Manila

Ever wondered why The Beatles are so popular here and abroad, why One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith are all loved even if they are British?

Well it is because back in 1960’s the British Phenomenon occurred when rock and pop music acts from the United Kingdom,as well as other aspects of British culture, became popular in the United States, and significant to the rising”counterculture” on both sides of the Atlantic.Pop and rock groups such as The Beatles, The Dave Clark Five,The Kinks,The Rolling Stones, Herman’s Hermits and The Whowere at the forefront of the invasion.

The British Invasion had a profound impact on popular music, internationalizing the production of rock and roll, establishing the British popular music industry as a viable centre of musical creativity, and opening the door for subsequent British performers to achieve international success. In America the Invasion arguably spelled the end of instrumental surf music,pre-Motown vocal girl groups, the folk revival (which adapted by evolving into folk rock), and (for a time) the teen idols that had dominated the American charts in the late 1950s and 1960s.

And this 2015 marks the 50th Anniversary of the British Invasion, with six bands coming over to Manila in a one night only performance. Almost two hours of superb and top charting hits that will be performed by The Tremeloes, The Troggs, Marmalade, The Animals, Mike Pender’s Searchers and Spencer Davis.

The Animals who began in Newcastle as the Kansas City Five were a major influence among R&B-based British bands in the early Sixties. The band moved to London upon finding fame in 1964. The Animals were known for their gritty, bluesy sound. The band balanced tough, rock-edged pop singles against rhythm and blues-oriented album material. Some of their greatest hits are “House of the Rising Sun”, “I’m Crying”, “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place” and “It’s My Liife”.

The Marmalade was a Scottish pop rock group from the east end of Glasgow, originally formed in 1961 as the Gaylords, and then later billed as Dean Ford and the Gaylords. In 1966, they changed the group name to The Marmalade. The most successful period for the band, in terms of UK chart success was between 1968 and 1972. Hits do include “Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da”, “Loving Things” and “Reflection of My Life”.

Mike Pender’s Searchers was the voice of the Searchers, one of the most influential band to come out of Liverpool in the early 1960’s. Pender also played the trademark Jangly Rickenbacker twelve string riffs on such quintessential hits as “Needles and Pins” which gave way to the West Coast folk-rock revolution closely identified with the Byrds. Garnering UK#1 hit in the 1963, “Sweets for my Sweets”, “Sugar and Spice”, “Love Potion No.9” and “Don’t Throw Your Love Away” are some of the recognizable and adored songs of this group.

Spencer Davis produced some of the most dynamic R&B singles of the sixties, hailing from Wales, Spencer founded the famed Spencer Davis Group in 1963, producing a dozen top 10 hit songs, helping to bring British rock n’ roll to the rest of the world. Hits include “Gimme Some Lovin”, “Keep on Running” and “Somebody Help Me”.

The Tremeloes was a band chosen by Decca Records over the Beatles when they both audition for the recording company on New Year’s Day, 1962. Decca Records chose the Tremeloes over the newcomers because, as a London based outfit, they would be more easily accessible. The Tremeloes did produce some hits for Decca Records, ultimately placing thirteen songs in the British top forty. Some of the hits of the band were “Twist and Shout”, “Do You Love Me”, “Here Comes My Baby” and “Silence is Golden”.

Last band on the tour list is The Troggshave continued to embrace both hard rock and alternative music during their more than 45 years together. The Troggs is an abbreviation of their original name the Troglodytes meaning cavemen.

This concert is presented by Resorts World Manila in cooperation with Redstone Media Productions Inc.

Tickets are available at Ticketworld, SM Tickets, Ticketnet and Resorts World Box Office.

Peabo Bryson sings his best songs at Resorts World Manila

The first glance across the room, your first slow dance, the moment you surrender yourself to someone, Peabo Bryson sings the words that true romantics would love to say. He sings the words that women long to hear, if only once in their lifetime. Peabo Bryson sings the music of romance, the music of love.

Peabo Bryson has established himself as one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary music of the last quarter century. Possessing a beautifully rich, almost operatic voice, this two-time Grammy Award winner has prospered despite the passage of time and changes in popular musical trends. With 20 albums to his credit, Bryson has enjoyed an unprecedented, across-the-board level of international success; Peabo was the first artist in music history to have separate records topping four different charts.

Bryson's greatest solo hits include 1977's "Feel the Fire" and "Reaching for the Sky", 1978's "I'm So Into You" and "Crosswinds" 1982's "Let the Feeling Flow", 1984's "If Ever You're in My Arms Again" (his first Top 10 pop single, at #10 in the US), 1989's "Show and Tell", and the 1991 hit "Can You Stop the Rain". In 1985, he appeared on the soap opera One Life to Live to sing a lyrical version of its theme song. Bryson's vocals were added to the regular theme song in 1987 and his voice was heard daily until 1992. He recorded the successful album of romantic love duets with Roberta Flack (Born to Love) in 1983.

Bryson won a Grammy Award in 1992 for his performance of the song "Beauty and the Beast" with Céline Dion and another in 1993 for "A Whole New World" (Aladdin's Theme) with Regina Belle.
And this coming May 13, 2015, he will grace us again in the Philippines performing his all-time hits at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila, 8 PM. Let him serenade you and feel the love in this summer heat.

No more bad hair day for UK hair grooming brand Remington

I cant leave the house without blow drying my hair, but since my blow dryer needs repair, I just rely on my electric fan to dry my long locks , and it takes time and styling to do just that. That's why Im on the look out for a blow dryer or hair straightener to make it sleek and smooth.

Remington recently launched its hair grooming products last April 21, at Green Sun, Makati. Remington is a leading supplier of haircare, female depilation, grooming and shaving products.

Leaving the house without that perfectly coifed or sleek straight hair, or smooth underarms among girls, and a perpetual 5 o’clock shadow among guys is no longer an option. Having perfect hair, or lack of it, has become an essential in how the world gets ready

Achieving this perfection is now feasible anytime. UK hair grooming brand Remington has finally reached the Philippines, complete with its strong array of personal care small appliances for hair care, grooming, depilation, and shaving.

“We are excited to bring to the Philippines the most trusted brand in hair care, grooming, depilation, and shaving. Remington is a brand that has been around for more than 70 years, in 85 countries. Remington products are not just about exceptional quality, it brings forth a transformation for its users – giving them the confidence that comes from looking their best and being ready for anything,” said Clarence Cu, president of Tocoms Philippines, the exclusive distributor of Remington.

Started in 1937, the Remington brand first rolled out shavers for women who wanted to keep their legs and underarms hair-free without having to pluck – an extremely tedious task to be done regularly. When it introduced plug-free shavers in 1960, Remington established itself as a pioneer in the hair grooming technology.

In the last decade, Remington launched the world’s first body hair trimmer, an Intense Pulse Light machine for home use, and a touch-control beard trimmer.
The product line of Remington for shaving is one of the most popular in the world. Developed in its research and development facilities in the United States and Europe, Remington shavers are known to be innovative and highly-efficient.

The Remington grooming line for men includes shavers and body hair trimmers that have been designed to deliver several options for shaving lengths – from smooth to a one-inch stubble. Designed with the latest innovations, the grooming line for men also caters to the peculiar needs of men’s body and facial hair, giving consumers the best grooming experience.

Female depilation need not be a horror story with the Remington product line that aims to give the smoothest result without the pain. Understanding the dynamics of hair care has enabled Remington depilation products to give the best experience for its consumers.

With hair fashion changing as fast as the seasons, the use of hair curlers and iron has caused more harm than good. The hair care line of Remington allows its consumers to style their hair without damaging it.
Remington hair care, grooming, hair depilation, and shaving products are now available in leading appliance and department stores nationwide.

The Super Bowl of China Returns with a New look and Revamped Menu

My father used to bring me to this cute Chinese Restaurant located at Binondo along Sta Cruz when I was younger. I have grown to love their dimsum platter, siopao, lumpia, birthday noodles and a lot more since then.  I love Chinese/Cantonese cuisine, theirs has been one of my comfort food. Then I stumbled upon Super Bowl of China at Galleria years back. I am loyal to their best sellers like Lemon Chicken and Hot Taho complete with sago and sweet syrup to this day. Then I discovered they offer some new dishes to try on complete with the restaurant's new look feel of the brand.

Super Bowl of China Sm Megamall recently launched its new dishes together with the restaurant's whole fresher look to the media last April 21 with its contemporary interiors and decor with drop lights hanging from the ceiling that brightens up the dining area.

As a way to introduce the “new” Super Bowl, the restaurant is offering its Limited Time Offer selection featuring new dishes such as Beef Hofan, Beef with Ampalaya & Black Beans, Hot Chicken Salad, Pork Wanton with Mala Sauce, and the refreshing Red Bean Milk Tea.

Beef with Ampalaya & Black Beans
Red Bean Milk Tea

All the dishes served were delicious, fresh and not to mention instagrammable worthy. The first dish that I have tried is their Dimsum Platter, I first took a bite to its crunchy spring roll dipped to their special spicy vinegar.  Next was the pork siomai which is the juiciest and tastiest I should say.

The Sweet and Sour Pork has that mouthwatering crispiness, it was fried just right to every bite. The bell pepper compliments the taste of crispy glazed pork. It was so good I ate half of the plate served.

The Super Bowl Birthday Noodles is an E Fu-based noodle dish generously topped with fresh shrimp, roast pork asado, cuttlefish, quail eggs, sliced pork, and mixed vegetables.

The Chinese Chorizo Rice and the quintessential Yang Chow Fried Rice is the best selling fried rice to dining customers. You can eat it with their best selling dishes or alone.

Sliced Beef with Brocolli, tender beef slices on a bed of fresh broccoli flowers, mixed mushrooms, carrots sautéed in a sesame-oyster sauce. Seafood lovers, on the other hand, opt for the Szechuan Shrimps for its plump and juicy shrimps stir fried with carrots, bell peppers, mushrooms, dried Taiwan chili, peanuts and Szechuan Sauce.

Desserts include classic favorites such as the peanut buchi, black gulaman and the well-loved taho, served with tapioca balls and sweet syrup which customers can add to their liking.

Aside from the visual and architectural changes introduced in the restaurant, Super Bowl of China now has a new logo that is more streamlined and modern. The iconic bowl in the old logo has been retained to pay homage the brand’s heritage. The restaurant’s other branches are also currently being renovated to reflect the new look and feel of the brand.

“A number of elements, from the new logo and menu design, to staff uniforms, restaurant design, décor, floor and wall finishes, furnishings, and food presentation, have contributed to revamped Super Bowl of China, which is part of the company’s plan to capture a younger and wider market,” said Laine de Jesus-Vallar, senior marketing manager.

Since opening its first store in the country in 2001, guests have been coming back to the restaurant for its authentic Cantonese cuisine that’s delicious & affordable. Its long-standing commitment to give guests a satisfying dining experience without sacrificing quality has been rewarded with many satisfied and loyal guests. And with the renovation already completed, Super Bowl of China is ready to claim its spot as a favorite place to dine and celebrate.

“This infographic décor is a unique wall accessory that gives guests a quick glance into Super Bowl of China’s history, heritage, and bestselling dishes,” Vallar said.

Something old, something new

Dishes at Super Bowl of China remain to be as creative and delicious, and many of everyone’s old favorites are still house bestsellers.

It’s time to reconnect
Then and now, Super Bowl of China has been the go-to place of people craving for Chinese comfort food – whether it’s a steaming bowl of noodles, a plate of dimsum, or a platter of one’s favorite beef, chicken, pork, vegetable or seafood dish. With its new look and quality food and service, it’s time to revisit the restaurant and relish once again the Super Bowl of China dining experience.

(Super Bowl of China branches are conveniently located at the 4th level SM Megamall Atrium; Ground Floor, Main Hall, SM Mall of Asia and at the  3rd level Chef’s Avenue Festival Mall, Alabang.  Opening soon is a new branch at Robinsons Place Manila.

For delivery, dial the Super Delivery Hotline 988-2888 for Alabang and Megamall, for Mall of Asia 212-1212 and enjoy freshly prepared Chinese dishes in the comfort of your own home or office.)
