Knorr inspire moms create the wonder of flavor with "Sarap ng #LutongNanay"

The kitchen always reminds me of my mother. The best mechado in the world definitely belongs to her. Its unusual to mix coconut milk with mechado, but my mother who is our top chef whips the dish like magic because it tastes good hands down.  Her top recipes include Ginataang Page (stingray), kilawing tuna, and chicken curry. I knew my mother could cook when I first had a taste of her malagkit (sticky) champorado with dilis, cheese and toasted bread. Its not normal but its how the way we liked it. Now that I have my own family, I always make it a point to visit her and bring her any food along the way. I love my nanay for all its worth. I will never trade her signature recipes for anything in the world.

Knorr celebrates "Sarap ng  #Lutong Nanay" last November 20, at Blue Leaf, BGC. Christine Jacobs Sandejas hosted the show with Knorr Ambassador Carmina Villaroel Legaspi and fellow mom influencers Dimples Romana, Delamar Arias, Pia Guanio and Danica Sotto. Together, they cooked the traditional dishes with a twists. When we signed in at the registration, we were given numbers to witness or cook with the  Knorr influencer. I was given number 3 which was Danica Sotto_Pingris'. We and other bloggers sat infront of her while she cooked Pork sinigang with Knorr sinigang mix and  watermelon.

A survey reveals that  in the Philippines – where home cooking remains an important component of family life – almost 80 percent of young people aged between 23 and 27 admitted they cannot cook.

From among more than 1,000 respondents surveyed, the top two reasons mentioned by respondents on why they do not cook as often, are a lack of confidence and inadequate knowledge about recipes.

Many Filipino moms aspire to be great cooks and they want to serve flavorful meals which have a positive impact on their families. However, it is not always easy: her decreasing confidence coupled with the increasing demands on her time, make this very difficult in a modern world.

“Home-cooking is in decline but Knorr is fighting back here in the Philippines to inspire and help moms create the wonder of their flavor, and build lifelong family bonds,” declares Oliver Sicam, Unilever’s Marketing Director for Foods.

Knorr is determined to make mom-cooked flavor matter again by inspiring people to cook more at home and by showing how mom-cooked flavors are the real key to the powerful bonds mothers yearn to build with their loved ones.

The “Sarap ng #LutongNanay” Movement

Knorr aims to ensure that meals prepared by moms remain an integral part of home life, so that strong family bonds continue to move the world forward. We call this “Sarap ng #LutongNanay,” a movement that is backed by the latest scientific discoveries.

Working with leaders in the field has confirmed that mom-cooked flavors help create memories which reach parts of the brain that other experiences cannot. The way the brain connects memories with the wonderful flavors cooked by mom for children, creates deeper and more vivid emotions than any other.

World-renowned neuroscientist Dr. Stuart Firestein, PHD from New York’s Columbia University has been carrying out research into the wonder of mom-cooked flavors for many years. “Flavors she cooks up in her kitchen reach the parts of the brain, heart and soul that other things just can’t reach,” says Firestein.

“What continues to fascinate me is how the brain instinctively knows that certain flavors and foods have the power to mean more to us than just sustenance. This is called sensory recall and is a phenomenon which demonstrates how the brain is hard-wired to respond in certain ways to different tastes and smells.  Even over time and distance, when we taste mom’s cooking, it transports us back to a special place and a unique memory,” he adds.

Knorr’s “Sarap ng #LutongNanay” movement is lead by its new brand ambassador, Carmina Villarroel. Cooking for her husband and twins, Carmina knows how important sharing food with loved ones is. These days, when each minute must be spent wisely, cooking at home is made more convenient for modern moms like Carmina with Knorr. Even the simplest dishes become more meaningful because they’re made with love by mom right at home.

According to Knorr Senior Brand Manager Jec Inocencio, “The “Sarap ng #LutongNanay” movement is just one of the many ways Knorr continues to prove that it understands modern moms’ needs, whilst developing a new generation of cooking moms, by providing convenient cooking solutions without sacrificing taste that families crave and love.”

Knorr’s “Sarap ng #LutongNanay” empowers moms to know their way around the kitchen, to encourage them to spend even just a few minutes each day to see what they can make for and with their families. It can be yet another occasion to strengthen bonds and to create memories that last a lifetime. Long after meals have been served, children will remember with fondness the times spent with mom experimenting in the kitchen. That there were things learned and laughter shared.

BlackBerry Launches the BlackBerry Passport

I have been a BlackBerry Curve user for two straight years since 2010, known for its user friendly qwerty pad and BBM. I have come to love the phone for all its features but since androids arrived last year. I switched to another smartphone but still would want to avail of BlackBerry if  another model would fit my work and lifestyle. Then BlackBerry Passport was introduced last November 25 at Romulo Cafe.

BlackBerry Limited,  a global leader in mobile communications, launched the all-new BlackBerry Passport in the Philippines last November 25 at Romulo Cafe, Makati. The smartphone features a large square touch screen and new QWERTY touch-enabled keyboard. Inspired by actual passports, the universal symbol of mobility, the size and form factor of BlackBerry Passport is portable enough to easily tuck into pockets and use wherever you go. It is a device purpose-built for productivity-driven business professionals who want a smartphone that empowers them with the mobile tools they need to get things done, without sacrificing style or portability. It has a sleek compact design that is made of Corning, Gorilla Glass 3 for the display and forged stainless steel for added strength. It provides durability business professionals require in a smartphone.  It is priced at SRP P35,790.

Cameron Vernest, Managing Director, the Philippines & Singapore, at BlackBerry said, “We are excited to mark a new milestone for BlackBerry here in the Philippines, with the introduction of the first square screen design and touch-enabled keyboard smartphone – the BlackBerry Passport. Aimed at mobile professionals and equipped with the new BlackBerry 10.3 OS, this groundbreaking device will allow users to elevate their productivity and collaborate more effectively. The BlackBerry Passport will definitely be the talk of the town, breaking through the sea of rectangular-screen, all-touch devices.”

The large square screen is optimized for viewing and creating content, and will make everyday tasks like reading and writing emails, reviewing and editing documents, web browsing, and map navigation, more comfortable and effortless. The BlackBerry Passport includes the industry’s first touch-enabled keyboard with gestures that make typing, editing and navigating more efficient and accurate. BlackBerry's physical QWERTY keyboards have always made it easier for users to create polished, professional communications with exceptional accuracy. According to a BlackBerry user study, BlackBerry Passport's new QWERTY keyboard is almost four times more accurate than BlackBerry 10 virtual keyboards – the error rate is on average 74% lower – so there are fewer typos to get in the way of what you’re trying to say.

The BlackBerry Passport is the first device to launch on BlackBerry’s latest OS platform, BlackBerry 10.3. The device comes preloaded with new productivity-enhancing features including BlackBerry Blend and BlackBerry Assistant , as well as the BlackBerry World storefront and Amazon Appstore, offering access to the very best apps for work and play.

WD MY CLOUD: A CLOUD OF YOUR OWN

We all have stories to tell, just as we also have lots of photos and videos we love to show off, and that is why everyone’s been busy hitting the share button on social media.

But the photos/videos we share are just a percentage of the total content we create every day. The rest we store in portable storage devices that we eventually transfer to our hard disks at home—or upload it on the Cloud.

Yep. the Cloud--where everyone can access all the files they’ve uploaded from anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, its hard to say how safe it really is-- as just the like real clouds in the sky your files are out there in the hands of some tech guy managing the servers. Not to mention the high monthly fees you need to pay if you want more space.

WD’s new My Cloud addresses both of these issues by being more reasonably priced and by storing all your data on your own “personal cloud,” also known as a network attached drive or NAS.

Using the My Cloud drive, users can share files, stream media and access content anywhere with no monthly fees and feel secure in the knowledge that their cloud resides in their own home under their exclusive control.

According to estimates from Research firm Gartner, the average household will own approximately 3.3 terabytes (TB) of digital content by 2016. This growth of digital content is has been associated to the explosive growth of Internet-connected devices, with the current U.S. household owning 5.7 connected devices, according to The NPD Group.

With families now connecting, sharing, syncing, and backing-up numerous mobile devices and computers in their household, the amount of digital data being created on these devices are growing dramatically. The Personal cloud provides an ideal solution to simplify the complex issue of organizing digital files across various devices so that users can enjoy their digital videos, photos and music on all of their devices.

“We believe that there’s no place like home for the cloud,” said Jim Welsh, executive vice president and general manager of WD's branded products and consumer electronics groups. “Everyone is inundated with thousands of digital files scattered across multiple computers and mobile devices, and controlling that chaos is a challenge. WD’s personal cloud is the easiest, most secure and most affordable way for customers to control that chaos, with access to all of their files anywhere, anytime.”

Just as its very simple look, users can get their personal cloud up and running in minutes with WD’s rich web-based user interface for seamless web-guided setup. WD's software auto-detects the drive to make setup simple for novice users.

Once the My Cloud drive is setup, customers can easily connect their computers and mobile devices with WD's free desktop and mobile apps.

Powered by a Dual-Core processor and a gigabit Ethernet connection transferring files is blazing fast, allowing customers to quickly centralize all of the digital content scattered across various devices onto My Cloud. With direct file uploads from mobile devices, important files and videos can be safely moved to My Cloud, freeing up valuable space on users’ tablets and smartphones.

Customers can also use their My Cloud to back up their computers and digital files. For PC users, WD SmartWare Pro software offers options for how, when and where to back up files. Mac users can utilize all the features of Apple Time Machine backup software to protect their data.

Complete Control and Accessibility
My Cloud users can store and organize their families’ photos, videos, music and important documents in one secure place on the home network. The My Cloud is available in 2TB, 3TB, and 4TB capacities, providing plenty of storage capacity without the monthly subscription fees. Need more storage? All you need to do is attach a compatible USB 3.0 hard drive directly to the USB expansion port to expand the My Cloud’s capacity.

You don’t even have to transfer your files through the PC first as the My Cloud lets you to upload directly from your iOS and Android devices.  The WD My Cloud mobile app allows users to view photos, stream video and access their files from anywhere on their smartphones or tablets. The mobile app also makes file sharing and collaborating simple and secure, allowing customers to easily email files, share files as a link, and print and open files with third party apps.

adidas Originals presents the Tubular Runner

With an uncompromising design that marries function and aesthetic like never before, adidas Originals presents a new footwear silhouette for Fall Winter 2014 - the Tubular.

Born from some of the brand's most creative minds, the Tubular echoes the fearlessness found in the world of sports and channels this directness into a bold new silhouette that is as streamlined, as it is headstrong.

The Tubular's namesake is its unique outsole design, inspired by inner tire tubes, which features dual-density EVA for unbeatable comfort. Partnered with stabilizing plates, the Tubular supports the wearer with a firm stance, whilst sacrifices nothing in the way of aesthetic. A sock-fit neoprene upper continues the contemporary street look and features printed overlays that provide additional support.

Refined, responsive and deeply considered, it's a bold new take on progressive sneaker design that's instinctive to the brand with the 3-stripes.

The Tubular Runner

For the debut mainline appearance of the brand new Tubular silhouette, adidas Originals presents the Tubular Runner.

Offering four iterations of the sport and style crossover for November, the Tubular Runner couples the shoe's minimalist design with four streamlined colour palettes in solid grey, core black, collegiate navy and collegiate burgundy. Each model's upper from the neoprene sock and leather heel-cage to the laces and structural overlay has been rendered in a smooth tonal treatment, offset by an all-white midsole in the shoe's featherweight dual-density EVA.

Culminating in four confident renditions of a modern athletic model, the Tubular Runner demonstrates the silhouette's true versatility, championing the shoe's progressive and style-conscious edge in its purest form.

The adidas Originals Tubular retails at PHP 5495 and will be available this November at Sneakpeek, Sole Academy and adidas BGC, Greenbelt 3, Trinoma, Power Plant and Ayala Cebu.

Jurassic World is the long-awaited installment of Jurassic Park series, as far as I can remember, I was at the theatre 11 years ago and got excited that I bought miniature dinosaurs right after the movie. Giordano celebrates 25th anniversary with a circus theme, fashion show and a concert

It was in the early 90s when Giordano made a name in the fashion scene. The classic tshirts were well loved among the fashionistas because of its cottony feel that comes in different vibrant colors. The classic shirt is great with any jeans, khaki or denim with sneakers to complete the look.  It becomes the signature inner wear of almost everyone, because of its value for money.  After 2 decades and 5 years,  Giordano celebrates their 25th anniversary with a circus theme, fashion show and a concert.

In celebration with its 25th anniversary, a circus themed games and performances by classic circus characters such as clowns, mimes stilt walkers, magicians, lion man and fire eaters  was held at Eastwood Mall Open Park last November 22, 2014.  Giordano also has a concert topbilled by Giordano ambassador, Filipino music icon Rico Blanco, Brownman Revival and Franco.

Giordano showcased its 2014 Fall/Winter collection. Classic, perfect-for-the-chilly-weather pieces like oxford shirts, Breton tops, long-sleeved tees, denim, khakis and polos were paraded on the runway and worn by top models Ria Bolivar, Jasmine Maierhofer and Justine Gabionza. Award-winning fashion show director Ogee Atos took the shows reins while stylist Charmaine Palermo and makeup artist Lourd Ramos made up and styled the models.

The climax of the event was a concert which featured Rico Blanco, Franco and Brownman Revival. Blanco capped off the night with a performance of the crowd pleaser Giordano theme song, ‘World Without Strangers’.

Brownman Revival

“We thank everyone who celebrated this milestone with us. Giordano has evolved so much over the past two decades, and Filipinos have been a huge part of the brand’s success. When Giordano first opened here in the country, we never thought that we would sign on celebrities, much more a song composed by Rico Blanco,” said Larry C. Lim, Giordano Philippines’ CEO and President.

“We look forward to the next two decades and more, and our customers can expect more timeless and classic pieces from us in our future collections,” he said.

Get #Tontekified at Tokyo Tonteki Greenbelt 5!

I learned to appreciate Japanese food when I was drawn to ramen, maki and sushi. Japanese has a way of perfecting its dishes, from tonkatsu then to Tonteki (pork loin steak) now. If you want your pork loin soft, chewy with special sauce to go with, then try and order Tonteki at their newly opened second branch Tokyo Tonteki, Greenbelt 5.

Perfect partner,  Tonteki and Japanese rice

Tokyo Tonteki is the brainchild of Shusaku Namikawa, originating in Mie Prefecture, the owner and founder of the original specialty restaurant in Japan, who was drawn to “tonteki” (Japanese for “pork loin steak”)—a local dish he had during a trip to Yokkaichi City.   The first Tonteki was opened on April 15, 2007, the owner, founder, and chef opened his first restaurant in Shibuya Prefecture in Tokyo, Japan. He discovered a unique way of cooking pork loin steak that he combined with his very own sauce made of aged fruits, vegetables and spices.  The result was pork steak that is incredibly tender and tasty. He believes that it is best to share this delectable dish outside of Japan and so he expanded in Asia. When it opened in the country October last year at UP Town Center,  it was a hit among filipinos that the Am-Phil Group (behind Chili’s, Super Bowl of China, and Nanbantei of Tokyo) decided to open another branch in Greenbelt 5. Selected bloggers were invited  to try Tonteki,  Tonburg and other great japanese cuisine last November 20, it was purely love at first bite.

An order of tonteki goes well with a bowl of steaming hot pork miso soup. The flavor- rich miso wakes up the flavor of tonteki with its sweet special sauce.

“What makes us unique is that our pork loin steak is not breaded. What you get is a piece of thick, tender and tasty tonteki, with fresh sides and sauces made from scratch,” said Laine de Jesus-Vallar, senior marketing manager of Tokyo Tonteki.

The premium high-grade pork loin meat with the perfect harmony of fat marbling, the secret is also in the cooking. The meat is cooked in low temperature, keeping it tender while ensuring that all its natural juices are locked in. The pork is then “tontekified” leading to an explosion of great flavors.

The Regular Tonteki Set is comprised of thick and tender pork loin cuts served with the signature Tonteki sauce and topped with garlic chips. Each set includes bean sprouts, shredded cabbage, pickled cucumber, steamed Japanese rice and pork miso soup. Extra refills of these side dishes are free.

Tonteki Sets come in a variety of size and signature sauces. There’s the Large, Chopped, Regular and the Ginger-Flavored Tonteki Sets. Signature sauces are Tonteki Sauce, Onion Steak Sauce, Ginger-Flavored Pork Steak Sauce, and Teriyaki Sauce.

Tonburg Sets (Tonburg Steak Set, Cheese Tonburg Steak Set and Pineapple Tonburg Steak Set), meanwhile, are made from 100% premium ground pork meat patty with diced onions doused with the restaurant’s original Onion Steak Sauce.

If you are partial to chicken, you should try the Chicken Steak Sets.
All orders are served with bean sprouts, shredded cabbage, pickled cucumber, steamed Japanese rice and pork miso soup that can be refilled as desired.

Other foodie favorites
There is a whole line of katsu sets, including the Salmon Fry (fillets of Noweigan pink salmon that are ocean fresh), Menchi (100% premium ground pork) and the Ebi Fry (fresh tail-on shelled shrimp).

Extraordinary appetizers will whet your appetite and will add flair to your meal.  Start off with the Spring Roll of Prosciutto, Avocado and Onsen Egg, which is as unique as it is delectable. Prosciutto replaces the usual spring roll wrapper and inside, you’ll find a wonderful surprise—perfectly cooked egg and creamy avocado.

A popular side dish is Stir-Fried Japanese Mushrooms, another bestseller. Enoki, Eringi and Shimeji Brown mushrooms are sautéed in butter and seasoned with select Japanese spices topped with Katsuobushi, the famous smoked Japanese fish flakes.

Tokyo Tonteki’s Special Fried Rice with Egg is best to partner with Tonburg, I love how it compliments my tonteki set. Its just plain delicious.

For desserts, there is Chocolate Pudding with Whipped Cream and Crème Brulee

A full Japanese banquet aims to tease the taste buds by using a range of cooking techniques, at Tokyo Tonteki, you get to celebrate delicious japanese cuisine at affordable price.  Go and visit Tokyo Tonteki at Greenbelt 5.

(Tokyo Tonteki is located at the 2nd Level Greenbelt 5 and at the G/F UP Town Center, Katipunan. Like us on Facebook: Tokyo Tonteki Philippines.  Follow us on Twitter (TontekiPH) and Instagram (@tokyotontekiph)

CHARLIE DAY, JASON SUDEIKIS BRING COMIC CHAOS TO “HORRIBLE BOSSES 2”

As much as they function best as a team, or what Jason Bateman calls “this three-headed monster, a sort of collective idiot,” New Line Cinema's “Horrible Bosses 2” lets Nick, Dale and Kurt also shine as distinctly individual personalities.

Says producer Jay Stern, “That’s really the strength and the secret of this kind of ensemble. There are people watching around the world who might not identify with all of them but will see a bit of themselves in Dale, or maybe Nick, or Kurt, so audiences have multiple opportunities to get drawn into it.”

For example, the needle of Charlie Day’s character, Dale, only points in one direction or the other: total fear and denial, or total gung-ho commitment. Above all, Dale’s first impulse is to avoid anything that will get him in trouble with his wife, a tendency he displayed in the first round when she was just his fiancée and is now amplified because the stakes are so much higher on the home front.

“They have triplets,” offers Day. “Though it’s not in the script, I’m assuming they got pregnant on their first attempt and then, surprise, it’s triplets! Because that’s what would happen to Dale. In one way, his dreams have come true, he got married to the woman he loves. But he’s in a little over his head with that already, and then they took this huge risk to start their own company, so Dale’s stress level is off the charts.”

Also off the charts is the lengths to which he is prepared to go to make things right.
“Dale is all over the place, flipping out one moment and being ominously quiet the next,” says director Sean Anders. “He’s the most neurotic and easily frightened of the three, and so the least predictable, and Charlie gives him the most amazing, infectious energy; he’s pitch perfect. Dale will jump head-first into some crazy idea like it’s brilliant, and then, the next moment, be screaming about how stupid it is and how it’s going to ruin their lives.”

Jason Sudeikis' Kurt, meanwhile, not one to worry like Nick, or panic like Dale, continues to sail along with full confidence that everything will work out and it’s all good, despite all evidence to the contrary, because he’s just that cool. If something goes wrong, they’ll just figure out a way around it, right?

Sudeikis’ take on Kurt is “happy-go-lucky, almost like a puppy dog. He likes to have fun, and he’s willing to go for it. He’s a bit of an adrenalin junkie, too, so long as there are no heights involved; if he can stay in the same relative longitude and latitude, he’s willing to try just about anything. I think Kurt, like his cohorts, is a product of the ‘Yes we can’ generation, and feels that anything he sets his mind to, he can accomplish.”

That attitude, combined with their checkered past, is what Sudeikis believes leads Kurt and his friends into further trouble. “The criminal activity they engaged in the first time really didn’t change their world very much,” he notes. “They got away with it. And that made them think maybe they could do things they really shouldn’t be doing, like being their own bosses.”

“Horrible Bosses 2” is the follow-up to the 2011 hit comedy “Horrible Bosses” and reunites Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis as everyone’s favorite working stiffs: Nick, Dale and Kurt.
Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick (Bateman), Dale (Day) and Kurt (Sudeikis) decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business. But a slick investor soon pulls the rug out from under them. Outplayed and desperate, and with no legal recourse, the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor’s adult son and ransom him to regain control of their company.

Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Foxx also reprise their “Horrible Bosses” starring roles, while Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz star as new adversaries standing between the guys and their dreams of success.

Opening across the Philippines on Nov. 26, “Horrible Bosses 2” is a New Line Cinema Presentation distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
