For Filipino parents, making the most out of their hard-earned money is always a challenge. For the financially savvy, the challenge is on prioritizing which future need they should save up for. According to recent studies conducted by Philam Life, education always falls among the top five financial priorities across different market segments.

The studies revealed that across market segments, from the Filipino-Chinese to the Younger Affluent and to the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), education is a key priority in Filipino families. The Filipino-Chinese parents consider their children's education as equally important as spending quality time with their family. Similarly, the Younger Affluent parents prioritize their children's education over saving up for their retirement. Among OFW parents, many regard the completion of their children’s college education as one of the conditions that would allow them to come home.

“We understand that education is a key priority among Filipino parents but they are wary of getting an education plan because of the pre-need issue in the past. They are also faced with the challenges of increasing tuition fees and the additional expense brought about by the extendedyears of basic education,” said Philam Life CEO Aibee G. Cantos.

As the country’s most trusted life insurance company, Philam Life is well positioned to help parents overcome these financial challenges and worries. “We havea long history of empoweringFilipinos and we remain a strong and trustworthy partner of parents in achieving their dreams for their children,” Cantos added.

In the last 10 years, Philam Life paid out over Php10 Billion in education benefits (2004-2015). Last May, 50,000 scholars received their education payout for the first semester of SY 2016-2017. This October, 51,000 checks will be released for the second semester of SY2016-2017.

“Times are changing and Philam Life has an important role to play in helping parents achieve their aspirations for their children. That’s why we continue to developinnovative product solutions that are relevant and responsive to their real life needs,” said Philam Life Chief Marketing Officer Mei-Chee Shum.

Philam Life introduces Future Scholar an education plan that provides long-term growth potential and guaranteed education benefits. It offers access to Philam Life’s expertly-managed funds and guaranteed education benefits. The plan’s premiums would be waived in case the parent passes away or suffers from a total and permanent disability, and there is an option to get life insurance coverage for the parent that the family can use to supplement the education funding. Customers can choose from two simple payment options – pay over 5 years or pay regularly until the child turns 17.

“Parents are always thinking about the future of their children. They want their childrento finish school and become successful. Philam Life’sFuture Scholar is a product that help them realize their dreams for their children,” said Shum.

Industry Experts Optimistic For Local Bio-Energy Growth

The Biofuels Act of 2006, penned by Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri back in 2006, has made the country able to maintain and improveits renewable energy sources. Since the passing of the law, many renewable energy projects have been planned, produced, and inaugurated.

Despite this, however, a lot of the country’s renewable energy projects are suffering from a lack of supply, coupled with a huge demand. This problem is more felt in the supply of biomass, which are organic materials that can be sued to create energy such as bagasse from sugarcane, and copra from coconuts. “It’s not easy to do biomass,” said Alberto Dalusung III, President of the Biomass Renewable Energy Association. “It’s difficult to secure the feedstock, the price, and volume. That remains a challenge,” he continued.

Still, those in the industry are optimistic. “There is an upward trend,” said Job Ambrosio, a director of the Ethanol Producers Association of the Philippines (EPAP). “Yes, the demand is high and our current [bioethanol] production is quite low, but with the support of the government, we are now able to put up more biofuel plants which help small local farmers,” he explained. By Ambrosio’s optimistic estimate, the supply and demand for local biofuels will stabilize by 2017.

In the Philippines, biomass and biofuels are produced from four major crops: Rice, coconut, sugar and corn. “From these four major crops alone, 35.5 million tonnes of biomass energy can be generated if utilized properly,” said Sen. Zubiri. “The country currently has an installed capacity for biomass of 221 megawatts, coming mostly from sugar and ethanol plants. This only makes 1% of the total energy capacity in the whole country; that’s just scratching the surface.”
“If investors can cooperate with small farms and their co-ops, then we can reach the potential power generation capacity of 4,450 megawatts from biofuels in the whole country, which can become constant energy supply to the grid,” continued Sen. Zubiri.

“The Biofuels Act was really meant to be for the farmers, and help them uplift their lives and their community,” Ambrosio said. EPAP’s bioethanol project in Magallanes, Cavite has created over 17,000 jobs while developing and utilizing indigenous renewable and sustainable sources of energy. Thanks to the many investments on the bioethanol plant, Magallanes has seen the rise of commercial and residential sites, as well as the improvement in telecommunications and internet services.
In the same vein, the production of biodiesel from coconuts helped sustain the Philippine coconut industry. Currently, the Philippines has over three million hectares in coconut plantation, some of which help produce cocobiodiesel from copra.

Zubiri further noted that the continued growth of the Philippine economy and the expected depletion of the Malampaya natural gas reservoir in less than a decade, renewable energy developments will face a serious production challenge. According to Zubiri, the renewable energy sector should take this window of opportunity for the sector to maintain and sustain the gains of renewable energy in the country.

Multi-Tasking Tips and Tricks from Fern-C

There are days, when it can be difficult to balance work, family and personal matters.  On such hectic days, it’s essential that we learn how to multi-task. Unfortunately for us, the act of multi-tasking can sometimes leave us drained, weak and tired.  This in turn makes us susceptible to sickness.

For anyone who has ever suffered from stress created by the need to multi-task, here are 5 ways to make multi-tasking less exhausting, and even more productive.

1. List your priorities.

It’s easier to start working when you have written down or printed out a list of what needs to be accomplished for a day.  This can help keep you organized throughout the day by serving as your reminder of your remaining tasks.

It is advisable to allot specific times and deadlines for specific tasks. Doing this allows you to be more aware of your schedule.  There may be instances, when you need to go over or under the time allotted, but it is still ultimately better to keep a list to help you monitor your progress.

2. Avoid distractions.

Whether it’s a chatty officemate or the lure of your own smartphone game, find a way to distance yourself from any potential distractions, as they might delay your work schedule. Instead, focus on what’s at-hand and think of what you can look forward to when your tasks are complete..

3. Stay Positive.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by what goes on in your daily life.  And while is sometimes easier said than done, think positive!  If looking at your list of priorities frustrates you – instead of thinking, “look at all the things I still need to finish,” think of it as “look at what I’ve already managed to accomplish.”  You’ll feel a bit more relieved, and energized to go on.

4. Take 5-Minute Breaks.

Working non-stop can be exhausting, especially when you’re multi-tasking. So, take a 5-minute breather every time you’ve accomplished something from your list.

This is also the time you can do anything you want – maybe watch a funny video online or read a few pages from a novel. What’s important is that you unwind in this short interval. As a result, this’ll get you feeling refreshed to accomplish your next set of tasks.

5. Supplement your body with FERN-C.

To keep help you resilient throughout all your activities is the ideal Vitamin C supplement of all – FERN-C!

FERN-C is a potent anti-oxidant – this means that it’s able to strengthen the body’s immune system to protect it against flu, cough, bronchitis, respiratory problems, viral and bacterial infections. In addition to that, ingesting FERN-C can even promote healthy gums, teeth, bones and other connective tissues. All of these result in a stronger and more resilient body that can keep going all day long.

On top of that, FERN-C is a Sodium Ascorbate Vitamin C supplement, which means that it does not cause irritation in the stomach. This is because it is an alkaline-based Vitamin C capsule with the basic pH balance of 7.5 to 7.8. This allows Vitamin C users to take FERN-C anytime of the day, even before meals. It should also be noted that FERN-C is the number one Vitamin C Sodium Ascorbate supplement in the Philippines.

Finally, each FERN-C pack contains the Quali-C seal, which certifies it of quality and effectivity. So, don’t go for something uncertain when you multi-task, get FERN-C today and be among the many satisfied FERN-C users, because with FERN-C, “subok na!”

FERN-C is available in all major drugstores nationwide.

The Investment Upside of a Strong US Dollar

Given the steady rise of the US Dollar, local investors are now looking at US Dollar-denominated investments to help offset local volatility and achieve good returns.

Coinciding with market uncertainty associated with an election year, the Philippine Peso itself has been underperforming since mid-April. At present, the domestic currency is hovering around the P47:USD1 level, making its 1.9percent depreciation the third - highest in Asia after the Chinese Yuan’s 2.3 percent and Malaysian Ringgit’s 4 percent.

On the other hand, the United States Dollar has been steadily strengthening since 2013. The US Dollar Index, which measures the general value of the US Dollar against major world currencies, is up 19% during this period.

“Many of our investors are now studying how they canbenefit from a strong US Dollar,” explained PhilamLife Head of Fixed Income Securities Vince Daffon. “We’ve definitely seen an increase in our US Dollar-denominated PAMI Global Bond Fund and our Philam Dollar Bond Fund, for example,” he added.

Daffon further noted that high quality US Dollar-denominatedsovereign and corporate bonds have performed well and remain attractive investments, due in part to a decline in US government bond yields.  “The ten year US Treasury yield began the year  at 2.27%, and  the 30 year US Treasury yield at 3.02%,” he pointed out. “At present, the 10-year and 30-year US Treasury yield are now trading at 1.55% and 2.30%, respectively.” Typically, lower US Treasury yields drive up bond prices and fund returns. “The PAMI Global Bond Fund has a minimum initial investment of USD5,000, while the Philam Dollar Bond Fund has a minimum investment of USD2,000. For investors looking to diversify their portfolios and take advantage of a strong US Dollar and bond market, I believe that these funds represent a solid value proposition,” Daffon concluded.

Body Reinvented by Century Tuna Celebrity Endorser James Reid

The first time I saw James Reid was 2 years ago with the now girlfriend loveteam Nadine Lustre at an event in QC.  I admit I was never a fan of any filipino loveteam as I dont have the time to watch teleseryes (due to busy schedule) and compare notes after. But for any fiipino movies, if its that good and under the helm of an award winning director, maybe I'll give it a try.

All changed since the #JaDine fever #TeamReel then to #TeamReal now arrived at the entertainment scene. Everyone, including my parents went gaga over them. They would watch their teleseryes, OTWOL to now Till I Met You like a devoted kilig teenager fan. When I saw James Reid in person, I knew why, its his rugged charm and mysterious personality that draws everyone to him with an Instagram followers of 2Million. I know he has done something good in his credit. The Instagram phenomenon that he is. The first time I post a #JaDine pics from 2 years ago, I gained my first 500 followers in 3 days time and 500 likes in each picture that I posted. How's that for their devoted professional fans.

When I saw the billboard posted with the word REVELATION DAY on EDSA and that luscious lip snip I knew right away that that belongs to James Reid.  Century Tuna chosen the right heartthrob to love at this very minute.

Century Tuna celebrity ambassador James Reid was launched on Sept. 6 at Makati Shangri-la. The event was hosted by Ms, Joyce Pring and Sam YG.

When asked who is his fitspiration from the local scene, he told the media that its Derek Ramsay, when probed if Derek knew it. He just shrugged and gave his killer smile.

Top actor James Reid appears anew in a TV commercial that gives a glimpse on how thinking like a champion has brought him to where he is now.

There’s no denying that James Reid is one of the hottest young actors today. He’s a social media phenomenon—with millions of followers online, not counting the various fan accounts that his devoted followers set up. The highly bankable love team JaDine, in which he is paired with his reel and real life partner Nadine Lustre, has sent their legions of fans in a frenzy, whether in mall tours, concerts, meet and greets, and even online where they are constant trending topics.

There are his chart-topping albums including Reid Alert which hit certified platinum level status last May. Then there are his box-office film successes—the 2014 romantic comedy and his launch movie Diary ng Panget; and Talk Back and You’re Dead, the teen romance flick that followed a year later. No doubt, his biggest hit to date is On the Wings of Love, the top-rating primetime series with Nadine that kept viewers glued to their TV sets until its sensational finale.

Clearly, James Reid is on a winning streak and his steady career path is one that is marked by a succession of winning moves. Recently, he joined the ranks of  Anne Curtis and Derek Ramsey as endorser of Century Tuna, the country’s number one  tuna.

Becoming part of the Century Tuna family has certainly paid off for the young hunk. He is presently at his fittest—sculpted abs, toned muscles, firm biceps—which can be attributed to a rigorous fitness regimen and a proper diet consisting of good protein that Century Tuna can provide. It’s no surprise then that James headlines their latest campaign, where he appears in a series of sizzling television commercials: the first, a TV spot focusing on metamorphosis that sent his fans in a frenzy and created a sensation; the second, which is presently airing, revolves around the idea of commitment and loyalty.

Century Tuna couldn’t be happier for having James in its roster of celebrity endorsers. From the very beginning, they already saw a champion in him. “His story is truly inspiring,” said Greg Banzon, Century Tuna General Manager. “It speaks of transformation, the relentless desire to improve oneself. It’s a winning formula that brings many positive lessons for everyone: perseverance, keeping the faith, while staying humble and true to yourself—qualities that make James a true role model.”

Meanwhile, for James, it’s really all about trust. “I liken it to a championship game,” he reveals. “If you want to win, you naturally want to surround yourself with a teammate you can put your total faith into. That to me is Century Tuna, and I can’t think of any other name that I’d trust to keep my body fit.”

With bated breath, we watch as James continues to transform—from a teen heartthrob to a more mature actor with the determination, the attitude and the body to conquer and win in the challenging world of show business.

OPPO takes #2 spot in PH

German-based market research organization GfK reported that OPPO is now the second bestselling smartphone brand in the ASEAN’s fastest growing mobile market, the Philippines.

GfK’s latest survey showed that OPPO increased its market share from 3.2 percent in July 2015 to 8.6 percent in July 2016, more than double its share from last year. The smartphone brand also rose from third spot in June 2016 at 8.5 percent, to second last July.

Our increasing shares show how we are able to capture what Filipinos want in a mobile device,” said Stephen Cheng, OPPO’s Brand Marketing Manager. “We not only meet consumer demands for quality smartphones, but we also offer them at more affordable prices. This is an important factor that paved the way for our growth over the past year.”

OPPO attributed its rising popularity to its F1 series, whose selfie-enhancing features won over the Filipino’s fondness for taking pictures of themselves. The company introduced the F1 phone in February this year, followed by the F1 Plus in April.

Introduced only last August, the F1 series’ latest addition, the F1s, sold out three days after its launch in concept and dealer stores nationwide.

Because of the reception to the F1s, OPPO is optimistic that the company will eventually dominate the Philippine selfie market.

“OPPO will continue pursuing its growth in the market by indulging the Filipino fascination for taking selfies,” Cheng said.

Plains & Prints, the style purveyor of chic, timeless designs for women partners with ICanServe Foundation and Top 5 designers for The Heart of Fashion runway for the breast cancer survivors.

The Heart of Fashion was held September 1 at The Gallery, Greenbelt 5 featuring designs of country's top fashion designers – Rhett Eala, Rajo Laurel, Randy Ortiz, Maureen Disini and Vania Romoff. Proceeds of the event will help support ICanServe Foundation campaigns and initiatives.

“Unlike any other campaigns Plains & Prints has launched, this campaign is unique because this is our way of fulfilling our responsibility to society by being involved in one of the major issues women are facing today- breast cancer,” explains Roxanne Ang-Farillas, owner and founder of Plains & Prints.
“In addition, every piece showcased in this campaign will serve as a reminder to all women who are battling the disease or will at some point  go through this, that they have a strong network of support, and that this battle is something we can win over and emerge from even stronger together. “

Touched by the journeys of breast cancer survivors, the renowned designers will craft and curate uniquely inspiring collections. From romantic silhouettes to modern, structured lines, the collections aim to show the sheer strength of character and the beauty of each woman/ survivor.

Rhett Eala’s collection focuses on femininity with pieces that make a woman feel “beautiful, comfortable, sophisticated and sexy.” Rhett incorporates touches of pink – the color of breast cancer awareness, and marries it with navy and white for a strong yet feminine fashion statement.

Rajo Laurel, the multi-awarded designer, shares his inspiration: “It has always been my philosophy to empower women through my designs. I create clothes that women can wear with confidence. The first piece is a soft and flowy wrap dress, which is done in a very modern way, while the other is designed with more architecture. The contrasts reflect the complexity and duality of a woman. “

The renowned Randy Ortiz shows his masterful touch with a more sporty aesthetic. “The pieces are more structured and for the active woman. For me, a woman is all about being versatile, so I created pieces that you seamlessly and easily transform from day looks into evening ensembles. This is for the 21st century woman.”

Maureen Disini, on the other hand, shares: “I wanted to design light, simple, and easy to wear ensembles. I wanted pieces that are relevant to the times, and which can take you from day to night.

Another talented creative visionary, Vania Romoff, captures the feminine mystique with romantic silhouettes. “Taking lead from the colors of femininity such as pink, I built on that with lots of flowers and details. For women, I envisioned ensembles that are soft, easy-to-wear, and romantic. “
Through the beautiful, sophisticated styles presented by the designers, Plains & Prints hopes to inspire women to see the beauty in their ordeal and being.

“My dream is to continuously create meaningful collaborations – touching the lives of women and maintaining a valuable lasting relationship with them. We will continue to fuel women’s devotion to excel and to bring out their true essence and strength,” ends Farillas.

Since it was established in 1999, ICanServe foundation has become one of the biggest and most influential foundations for breast cancer in the country. A community of passionate cancer survivors, ICanServe has made it their mission to help and support women with breast cancer. They advocate early detection breast exams and initiate community-based programs that extend medical support and empower women through education and information.

Essilor Philippines shares four important habits which promotes good eyesight

This August, celebrate Sight Saving Month by cultivating habits that will help keep your eyes healthy. While we don’t need to be reminded how important good vision is in our daily activities, we often forget that there are things we can do on a regular basis that will help ensure good eyesight as we grow older. Essilor Philippines, the world’s leading ophthalmic optics company, shares four important habits you can adapt to help you achieve a lifestyle that promotes good eyesight:

1..Healthy food for healthy vision. Nutrients such as Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin C and E, can help ward off age-related vision problems for adults while Lutein helps increase optical density. Studies show that by eating leafy green vegetables, which are rich in these nutrients, decreases the risk of macular degeneration and cataract. Moreover, eating a well-balanced diet can also help prevent other health problems such as diabetes, which is the number one cause of blindness among adults.

2..Avoid excessive exposure to damaging blue lights. At this age of technology, we cannot avoid getting exposed to radiation emitted by the blue light in our gadgets. This can cause eye fatigue and eye strain. Make sure you limit your exposure to your screens and monitors and take a rest every now and then.

3..Get regular eye check-ups. Periodic eye and vision consultation and examinations are an important part of preventive eye care. Adults should have their eyes tested to keep their prescriptions up-to-date and to check for eye complications, while eye exams are essential for children to ensure normal vision development.

4..Use effective eyewear. The right kind of lenses can protect your eyes from the glaring ultraviolet rays of the sun or the blue lights caused by your digital lifestyle, prevent your eyes from future damages and correct your existing vision problems. Technologies like Crizal, Transitions and Varilux, Eyezen, Xperio, Optifog and Myopilux have lenses which are specifically designed to suit your needs, age or activities. For instance, Crizal Optifog, which is best for surgeons and chefs, prevent fog from clouding your eyes, while Varilux is prescribed for those 40 years old and above and helps in achieving clear vision in their age. Myopilux, meanwhile, prevent Myopia or nearsightedness for kids 12 years old and below.

Remember to always take care of your eyes not only this Sight Saving Month but everyday to achieve healthy vision.

Generika partners with Ayala Healthcare Holdings Inc. to provide better healthcare services to customers

It is not cheap to get sick nowadays. A cough and colds for 5 days would require you to get a visit to your family doctor, which would probably charge you a minimum amount of php300 for his professional fee and an antibiotics for 7 days plus the cough medicines. For the medicines alone, you would spend around ph600 +. If youre an ordinary employee with family, that would put a dent in your savings.  That's why everyone's been looking or turning to quality generic medicines.

Generic drugs are copies of brand-name drugs that have exactly the same dosage, intended use, effects, side effects, route of administration, risks, safety, and strength as the original drug. In other words, their pharmacological effects are exactly the same as those of their brand-name counterparts.

Generika launches Generika Drugstore and MED Padala on Aug 31 at Fairmont Hotel. Med Padala is an innovative digital service that can help Filipinos from across the globe provide for their family’s healthcare needs. Through a web platform, gift certificates can be purchased and sent via SMS or email. It is a mission that began thirteen years ago, when they were among the pioneers in the Philippines’ generics industry. Today, they have over 630 stores nationwide that continue to provide Filipinos with safe, high-quality, and affordable generic medicines. Now that Generika is part of Ayala Healthcare Holdings Inc., they have the bolstered capacity to provide even better healthcare services to the Filipino people.

GabayGenerika is Generika Drugstore’s beating heart. It is the philosophy behind every single thing that the company does. It is embodied by the passion of their pharmacists who only seek to guide and assist their customers. Their pharmacists do not just dispense drugs, they provide customers with expert advice.

At its core, GabayGenerika is a new line of value-adding PLUS services that include free blood pressure monitoring, affordable mobile laboratory offerings, and blood sugar testing. But the most important aspect of GabayGenerika is the Gamot Guide–a printed reminder for customers to help them understand how to better take their medicine. Combined with free patient consultations, customers will be equipped with all the information they need to safely and effectively use their medications.

This passion for patient well-being is best exemplified by Generika’s own Actimed brand. This line of generic medications is of the highest quality and is sourced only from reputable manufacturers here and abroad. With all their drugs passing Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) standards, the generics they offer are guaranteed to be safe and as effective as their branded counterparts. Moving forward, Actimed will soon include wellness and nutraceutical products such as probiotics and health supplements all at a price point more affordable that what is currently available in the market.

With GabayGenerika serving as a strong anchor for better public service, MEDPadala as a means to improve access to medication, and Actimed as an expanding line of quality generics, more Filipinos can now improve their overall well-being. On the 31st of August 2016 at Fairmont Makati, Generika showcased to the media these value-addingPLUS services while highlighting how they can uplift Filipino lives.
