Tatay Gimmy's journey to YouTube

Never giving up. Tatay Gimmy restored many people’s faith in humanity by giving free taho, an admirable act of kindness amid the pandemic. This also boosted Tatay Gimmy’s YouTube channel which he hopes to monetize for his daily needs and medical expenses for his diabetes and rheumatism. However, shortly after gaining subscribers, he lost his mobile phone and access to his channel. With the help of a kind netizen Mary Amoguis, his new channel is now up and they are hoping people could once again come together to support Tatay Gimmy’s YouTube channel. 

 

While most aspiring creators make use of various digital platforms to promote their channels, 52-year-old Gimmy Panis Conos, known online as Tatay Gimmy, touched the hearts of many after being spotted by a netizen giving free taho (soy pudding) to encourage people to subscribe to his channel after seeing the potential of YouTube to help in his daily and medical expenses.

 

His story went viral after being re-shared by 20 year-old Mary Christine Amoguis, who was pleasantly surprised with how her simple act of reposting made a difference. Mary’s post built awareness to Tatay Gimmy’s channel which gained more than 280,000 subscribers. 

 

However, shortly after the channel started to gain subscribers, Tatay Gimmy lost his mobile phone and he can no longer remember his channel login credentials. With the help of Mary, his new channel is now up and they are hoping netizens could once again come together to boost Tatay Gimmy’s subscriber count. 

 

The journey to YouTube  

Tatay Gimmy moved from Tacloban City, Leyte to Manila to look for better employment opportunities. He worked in construction for five years while living alone since his family chose to stay in the province. When age and illness caught up with him, he started selling taho for a living despite having diabetes and rheumatism.

 

In 2019, Tatay Gimmy recovered from a mild stroke and eventually went back to the streets to continue selling taho. Even before having a YouTube channel and giving away free taho in exchange for subscribing to it, he has been giving them to street children before going home after a whole day of selling. 

 

He shared, “Napansin ko na madami talaga ang apektado sa pandemic at kung paano makatulong. Kailangan ko na din makauwi para hindi maabutan ng curfew kaya pinamigay ko ng libre ang taho.” (“I noticed that there were so many people affected by the pandemic and thought about how to help. I also needed to go home before the curfew so I decided to give my taho for free.”) This happened when Metro Manila was under General Community Quarantine.

 

Tatay Gimmy gives away free taho in exchange for subscribing to his YouTube channel which he hopes to monetize for his daily needs and medical expenses for his diabetes and rheumatism.

Moved by his gesture, one of his customers encouraged him to upload his video on YouTube to inspire others. With the help of his neighbors, Tatay Gimmy signed up to YouTube and uploaded his first video of himself sharing taho with kids. 

 

The habit of helping others 

Mary Amoguis, an accounting student from General Santos City, South Cotabato, has a habit of sharing and reposting online calls for donations. After being touched by Tatay Gimmy’s story, Mary posted his photo which was retweeted by influencers and celebrities including TV variety show host and social media sensation Maine Mendoza. Mary continued, “Matagal ko na siyang ginagawa just so I can help in my own little way, pero this is the first time na ganito karami ang nag-share ng post ko. I am so happy na pinost ko ‘yun, baka it will have a longer effect sa pagtulong sa kanya financially.” (“I’ve been doing it for a long time just so I can help in my own little way, but this is the first time that these many people shared my post. I am so happy I posted that. Perhaps it will have a longer effect in helping him financially.”) She shared that even if they weren’t proactively asking for help, many online users volunteered to extend financial support to Tatay Gimmy. 

 

Caring for others isn’t something new for Mary who has been helping people offline. On random visits to convenience stores, she gives food to the homeless and has even bought and distributed face masks to strangers. 

 

She admits though that the attention she’s getting for her role in Tatay Gimmy’s viral video is making her uncomfortable. However, she chose to look at its positive side, pointing out the benefits of the internet and social media: “Ang powerful talaga ng social media. Sa isang share mo lang, isang life na ang pwedeng ma-change”. (“Social media is powerful. You can change someone’s life with just one share.”)

 

Tatay Gimmy is wishing that it would soon be safe to go back to the streets, not just to sell taho, but also to look for more opportunities to share. As he hopes for the pandemic to end and works for his recovery, he takes comfort in the fact that we all can contribute to making the world a better place with one post, one share, and one good deed at a time.

The first vehicle integrated with Huawei's intelligent automotive solution was launched today at the 2021 ARCFOX Brand Night and New Product Launch in Shanghai. The ARCFOX Alpha-S HI is the first mass-produced vehicle featuring autonomous driving for urban roads and is being billed as a new global benchmark for autonomous driving.

Huawei is a provider of new components for intelligent vehicles that works closely with car OEMs through the Huawei Inside model to build high-quality intelligent vehicles. This model offers OEMs a brand-new digital architecture for intelligent vehicles, more than 30 intelligent components, and five intelligent systems – Intelligent Driving, Intelligent Cockpit, mPower, Intelligent Connectivity, and Intelligent Vehicle Cloud.

The ARCFOX Alpha-S HI is the first premium intelligent electric vehicle co-branded with Huawei Inside (HI). Through partnerships such as the ARCFOX Alpha-S HI, Huawei has promised to use its 30-plus years of experience in ICT to help OEMs build better intelligent cars and drive China's automotive industry to evolve in new cutting-edge areas such as intelligent and autonomous driving.

Huawei's automated driving system creates new use cases

The ARCFOX Alpha-S HI will be the world's first commercial vehicle with autonomous driving for urban roads thanks to Huawei's full-stack automated driving system (ADS). The car will be able to navigate itself through busy urban terrain, high-speed roads, and parking lots.

It will be able to recognize and analyze a full array of road features from traffic lights to oncoming traffic. From there, the vehicle can operate without instruction to any situation from going straight, turning, and stopping for pedestrians or other objects, to navigating on- and off-ramps and unprotected turns. For example, at intersections without left-turn waiting areas, it is able to adjust its route to turn left safely based on analysis of oncoming traffic and other vehicles turning left. In addition, the ADS comes equipped with self-learning technologies to constantly self-evolve, increasing its intelligence based on actual experience to become the ideal driver.

This full-stack ADS was specifically adapted to China's complex roads and transportation systems to provide users with a better driving experience across all scenarios.

Huawei has been researching artificial intelligence applications for nearly ten years, with their current autonomous driving algorithms entering development five years ago. This decade of research has produced a trifecta of technologies perfect for an ADS – super full-stack algorithms, a super data lake, and supercomputing and sensing devices.

The ADS will also support continuous optimization and iteration through over-the-air (OTA) updates to provide users with new and exciting features and to keep up with quickly evolving urban use cases.

During the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2021, the ARCFOX Alpha-S HI will be available for attendees to experience autonomous driving in dense urban areas.

LRT-1 will be operational on April 24 & 25, 2021

Private operator of LRT-1 Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) announces that LRT-1 operations will no longer be suspended on 24 – 25 April 2021 as majority of the planned maintenance works have already been completed ahead of schedule.

 

LRMC previously announced that two weekends in April will be needed to complete the remaining maintenance of trains, stations, and various systems including overhead catenary system started during the Holy Week. Major rehabilitation works were performed to continuously ensure the safety and reliability of the LRT-1 system. 

LRMC Chief Operating Officer Enrico Benipayo said, "We recognize the role of public transport in ensuring the mobility of essential services and understand the needs of our commuters this pandemic. Our Engineering team did their best to accelerate and compress activities through improved planning and coordination. LRT-1 will no longer need another 1-weekend shutdown and will be back to serve our passengers this coming weekend."

 

There will be no changes in the service schedule of LRT-1. The last trip leaving Baclaran Station is at 9:15 PM, while the last train leaves Balintawak Station at 9:30 PM. First train for both northbound and southbound trips of LRT-1 starts at 4:30 AM daily.

Jean Henri Lhuillier, the President and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier, was awarded with a lifetime membership by the World History Association

In recognition of his significant contributions to education and philanthropic initiatives, Jean Henri Lhuillier, the President and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier, was awarded with a lifetime membership by the World History Association (WHA). 

The WHA is a professional association of scholars, teachers, and students whose aim is to promote world history by means of encouraging the teaching of history through research and publications, as well as via personal interactions. 

“I am very honored and elated to be the recipient of this lifetime membership from such an esteemed organization. You can rest assured that I will continue this commitment through my educational as well as my philanthropic initiatives, in championing for the enrichment and the learning of and from history,” said Lhuillier. 

Alongside the awarding of a lifetime membership, Lhuillier was also featured on the organization’s spring edition newsletter. He was featured for his contributions to education through the Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation’s Alternative Learning System (ALS) program which has since opened close to 100 ALS centers nationwide which has benefited more than 8,000 learners. The ALS serves as a training ground for individuals who otherwise do not have access to learning programs. These centers aim to mold responsible citizens who can be assets to the community through relevant education and livelihood training workshops.

Aside from these, Jean Henri Lhuillier’s achievements in the academe were also given note which includes his conferment of a Doctorate in Humanities Degree (Honoris Causa) from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. His achievements as the Consul General of the Republic of San Marino and as a prominent figure behind Philippine tennis, football and swimming were also given the spotlight. 

“I strongly believe that our actions are largely affected by what had transpired in the past. This is why I also advocate for the study of history as a guiding north star when making our decisions. History has played a huge role in my life and I have benefited from it as well. It has played a huge role in my capability as the Honorary Consul General of the Republic San Marino and it has likewise influenced my decision making. Itis also one of the reasons why I am a staunch advocate of making education accessible for all,” part of Lhuillier’s quote reads.

Best of the C series? The realme c25 was built to last at a price that’s tough below 10K

Ever since I got introduced to realme, my views on smartphones have changed a lot. As you know I’m not much of a techie unlike most young people are, but after getting the chance to review several of realme’s phones last year, I found more uses for it besides social media postings and the usual web browsing. 

 

With the pandemic forcing us to stay indoors most of last year, our smartphones have become the most important piece of technology that has allowed us not only to stay connected and entertained, but also get our work done and even use it for business. 

Before, I look at my phone as just something I use for work, so I just want to put it down after updating my social media feed and sharing my blogposts. But since I’ve installed Netflix and HBO Go, my phone has also become a source of joy everytime I get to watch my favorite series. Recently however, I’ve given up those movies and tv series and have been so engrossed in watching live selling of bags on Facebook.

 

As they say, it is natural to feel stress, anxiety, and worry during these difficult times, so its best to surround yourself with things that would make you happy—and for me watching those sellers displaying those luxury handbags has been my therapy. 

 

After a long day of writing and blog posting. Just seeing those preloved SA quality (almost new) Class A & B bags and hunting for ‘THE ONE” I like and could afford keeps me excited and up all night.

 

And do you know where I’ve been watching them nightly? On my realme c25!

 

The c25 is the latest in “C” series smartphone from realme. And even though it’s part of their entry-level lineup, realme has again made sure its specs and performance that make it worth way more than its price!

 

The realme c25 has a large 6.5 inch screen that’s bright and vivid and its 1600x720 resolution is enough for watching those YouTube and FB videos or for streaming those movies or KDrama series. It only has a single speaker but its also loud enough for in-room use. 

 

Build quality is solid and its not to heavy to hold even for prolonged use. The one I have is the Water Blue, which isn’t as bright as realme’s previous colorways, but it actually looks a lot more elegant thanks to its “Geometric Art Design.” 

Unlike other realme smartphones, the realme C25’s back cover is processed using the industry-leading German five axis precise radium engraving machine and undergoes 300 minutes of polishing. Additionally, 450+ curves are engraved to create a special reflective light effect. The use of this technology makes the realme C25 less susceptible to fingerprints, protects it from scratches and gives it a much better grip even without the plastic case. 

The lens, flashlight and cameras are housed in a squircle module on the top right with the fingerprint sensor near its lower right corner. The finger sensor is fast and very reliable and its positioning makes it very easy to reach and unlock your phone. 

 

The realme C25 boasts a 48MP triple camera setup, making it stand out from the competition The realme C25 has a primary camera with 48MP image sensor and f/1.8 large aperture that secures enough light to make pictures clearer and brighter. It is then paired with a macro lens that allows you to shoot macro photos with sharp details and a B&W Lens to shoot better portraits.  After using it the other day for a photoshoot, I think it has the best camera among the current C series phones.

Photos taken outside have great detail and could compare with photos taken by other pricier phones. Portraits shots do have that bokeh- blur effect, although I’m not sure how the B&W lens can improve those shots. I’ve also taken a liking to taking close-up shots of small flowers because of the macro mode. I do miss taking those scenery shots though because it doesn’t have a wide angle lens.

 

The 8MP Selfie Camera on the other hand supports AI beautification, HDR mode and portrait mode and I’m quite satisfied at the results.

For me it’s yes its a good buy especially if you are a fan of realme smartphones. The large screen is great for watching videos. The 48 MP cameras are very capable of taking nice photos. The processor does the job and could keep up with your daily tasks and the 6000 mAh battery could last you a day or even two with light usage. 

 

It’s a good choice for moms who are starting their small online business and need to take photos of their products, or do live selling. It’s a good budget phones for students who are studying at home or those delivery/transport people who need a smartphone that has been certified and built to last.
