NutriAsia partners with Del Monte Philippines, Inc. for Share-a-Chair initiative

Keeping with its advocacies of helping Filipino communities in need and minimizing the impact of plastic waste, NutriAsia, Inc. and Del Monte Philippines, Inc. partnered together to donate upcycled plastic school chairs to several public elementary schools.

This was done through the Share-a-Chair initiative, a program started by NutriAsia and Del Monte in which the companies collect single-use plastic waste from its different offices and plant sites to turn them into school chairs and other needed furniture for underprivileged public schools and communities. It is the culmination of the two companies’ partnership forged to help the Department of Education address the perennial shortage of school chairs.

Jose Bastida Elementary School in Brgy.  1

NutriAsia and Del Monte collected 19.3 metric tons of plastic waste from their offices and plants for a period of six months. Part of this collection went to the Share-a-Chair donation of 600 school chairs and teachers’ tables distributed to 12 different partner schools in Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, and Davao that NutriAsia and Del Monte have chosen for the program.

NutriAsia and Del Monte then partnered with Envirotech Waste Recycling, Inc., a local company with ground-breaking technology to upcycle the collected plastic waste into the furnishings. Upcycling is the process of transforming waste and discarded materials into useable items which is Envirotech’s field of expertise.

Through the Share-a-Chair program and their spirit of resourcefulness, NutriAsia and Del Monte aim to continue upcycling plastic waste and creating more school chairs to be donated to various partner schools across the country. This way, the companies can fulfill their goals of assisting underprivileged Filipino communities and reducing the negative environmental impact of plastic.

McDonald’s Philippines makes outdoor dining and Bike and Dine options available across more of its stores for Filipinos to safely dine-in

Since most of the restaurants and fastfood is offering dining al-fresco, McDonald’s Philippines makes outdoor dining and Bike and Dine options available across more of its stores for Filipinos to safely dine-in.

The recent announcement of the government on the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal allow restaurants to accommodate outdoor dining at limited capacity, on top of Drive-Thru and Take-out options. Since last year, McDonald’s has begun investing in creating more outdoor dining spaces by setting up tables and chairs outside for customers to have more options where they can enjoy their favorite meals. This is in addition to improving existing outdoor dining facilities already integrated in the store design.

Under the M Safe program, stringent health and safety protocols are in place to assure that diners can enjoy their food while assured a high standard of safety. Customers who will visit the stores will be subjected to contact-tracing and temperature checks, and are required to wear face mask and shield. Social distancing will be followed at all times from queueing for their orders and while dining in. Cashless payment options are also available in stores to minimize physical contact.

Bike & Dine

Bikers can take a quick stop for refreshments and snacks at McDonald’s Bike & Dine area.

Another outdoor dining innovation is McDonald’s Bike & Dine wherein cyclists have a dining space after they have ‘Ride Thru’ or ordering through the Drive Thru lane. With Bike & Dine, cyclists can conveniently mount their bike securely in racks that are attached to a ledge which doubles as a table. Through this, bike-riding customers can enjoy their meals without worrying about the safety of their bicycles. Cyclists could enjoy this in the Vermosa and McKinley West branches, and soon, in more stores nationwide.

To check which McDonald’s stores offer outdoor dining options near their homes, visit the McDonald’s website at https://mcdonalds.com.ph/store-locator and click the “Outdoor” option. Customers may also use the same website to be updated on the daily operations of stores, and check if the branches offer Take-Out, Drive-Thru and McDelivery.

What was normal before, such as seeing movies or dining out, is now something you need to live without. Staying home as much as possible became one of the most important things you can do to take care of yourself and your family. In response to this change, LG developed new air-conditioners that help protect family members from the spread of germs, viruses, and dust particles that might be in the air. The high removal efficiency of the UVnano™ technology was tested and certified by TUV Rheinland in South Korea in March 2021, together with the certified capability to prevent the growth of fungi and microbes that can cause allergies, colds, and lung infections. The IPX model comes with the Ionizer+ feature, which was also tested by TUV Rheinland, which sterilized 99.9% of all traces of SARS-CoV2 in controlled test conditions. LG’s new innovations can fast track consumers to a COVID-free new normal. A year after the start of the pandemic, LG aims to address the needs of all segments thoroughly, with capacities that range from 1HP – 3HP for all room sizes, with various features to accommodate different lifestyles. These innovative air-conditioner lines also come equipped with a range of features to provide heightened convenience – from Active Energy Control for energy saving during long sessions to extensive 20-metre coverage via the Windblast feature. Along with the new lineup, LG also presents a new remote control with LED backlight for night use, allowing customers to select Sleep Mode without turning on the lights. For enhanced durability and customers’ peace of mind, the new series also come with Gold Fin condensers with patented anticorrosion coating plus a 10-year warranty on compressors and a 1-year warranty on condensers, evaporators, and PCB mainboards.

In line with its ‘Innovation for a Better Life’ philosophy, LG also emphasizes its commitment to elevating a smart home experience, with the advanced LG ThinQ™ app. In case a problem occurs, customers can also save repair time through the Smart Diagnosis program which can diagnose common problems that might happen with air-conditioners.

Smile Train Philippines launches the very first Filipino mobile speech application in the country

Smile Train introduces the first online speech therapy app in the country last April 27.

For the thousands of babies born with a cleft each year, speech therapy is an essential need. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, has disrupted access to speech therapy services. Smile Train, the world’s leading cleft charity, stands by its commitment to continue promoting comprehensive cleft care despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic with the launch of its online speech therapy services.

With telehealth emerging as an important pillar of healthcare delivery in the Philippines, Smile Train Philippines is launching the very first Filipino mobile speech application in the country designed for those who were born with a cleft. The app was developed to help parents, guardians, and children in accessing speech therapy services online. With kid-friendly features and lively graphics, the app leads to a wide array of educational videos and speech therapy sessions, all in Filipino.  The app also serves as a platform for more patients and families affected with cleft to connect with healthcare professionals to ensure that they can continue to receive comprehensive cleft care with minimal disruptions.

Since the start of the pandemic, Smile Train’s speech telehealth program in the Philippines has treated over 200 patients, providing them with more than 1,000 cleft care-related sessions— including speech therapy, nutritional support, breastfeeding guidance for mothers of babies with clefts, pre-surgical consultations, and psychosocial care. Smile Train envisions the app to be more than just a platform for learning, seeing it as a way to bring more smiles to cleft-affected families in the Philippines.

“Technology has allowed us at Smile Train to deliver the speech therapy needs of children with cleft throughout this pandemic. Safety is our foremost priority, and I am glad that this app allows us to safely serve the needs of these kids in the comfort and safety of their own homes,” said Smile Train’s South East Asia Director Kimmy Flaviano.

The Smile Train app also addresses a glaring gap in reaching kids with cleft. “With the app, distance is no longer a problem. Kids may start their speech therapy sessions which they otherwise would not have started without the app. Furthermore, the app encourages more Speech Pathologists to partner with Smile Train,” said Veronica Yu, a speech pathologist and the lead content creator of the app. “Partnering with Smile Train is life-changing, and I know that the Smile Train app will give many speech pathologists the fulfillment of knowing that they are making a difference in people’s lives,” Yu concluded.

“With or without the pandemic, digitalization of health services is definitely important as it allows patients to access health services in a more cost-effective way,” said Jeo Paz, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Nifty Hero. “This is precisely what the Smile Train speech app is trying to accomplish, providing hundreds of families with cleft access to speech therapy services at little to no cost at all, wherever they may be.”

Nifty Hero is the developer of the Smile Train app, advocating to help non-profit organizations in creating sustainable, cost-effective, and value-added health solutions to help organize, automate, and improve services offered.

The app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play in April. For more details about the app, visit http://smiletrainspeechapp.com/. For more information about Smile Train Philippines’ local efforts and to refer a patient in need, visit smiletrain.ph/get-help, follow Smile Train Philippines on Twitter and Instagram @SmileTrainPh, and like them on Facebook at @SmileTrainPhilippines.
